Bread For Everyone-Yum

I guess you could consider bread a staple in my family since we go through it like water. If you eat bread like my family does than you probably now how it can become a nagging expense on the grocery budget, so in this blog I thought I would share an easy bread recipe that makes 5 loaves.

Ingredients-

8 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour

5 tsp yeast

1/2 cup sugar

5 tsp salt

7-8 cups of white flour

1. First mix the whole wheat flour, yeast and water in a large bowl. Cover and let rise for 6 1/2 hrs.

2. Then stir in the rest of the ingredients except for the white flour.

3. Stir the white flour in 1 cup at a time until dough becomes to thick to stir. Now kneed the dough adding in the rest of the flour.

4. Cover the dough with a towel and let rise for about 1 1/2 hours.

5. Punch down the dough and form 5 equal loaves and place 1 loaf on each end of a large cookie sheet and the other three lengthwise in the middle of the cookie sheet.

6. Make 3 cuts on the tops of the loaves and then let them rise until you can make a dimple with your finger and it won't bounce back.

7. Bake them at 375 for about 40 minutes.

Congratulations you have successfully cut your grocery budget down!!!!!!!!

I love to go to the movies, but MOST of the time it's not in my budget! I found this great site where you can view movie screenings for FREE!!!! You can check it out here. You have to put in your zip code and then it will let you know if there are any upcoming movie screenings in your area. In Savannah, they are having the screening of Letters to Juliet on Sunday, May 9th!! You register and print out your pass. It does say that the first 100 people are let in so I would suggest you get there early!! Check it out for your area.

Conserve Energy:

If you have a programmable thermostat make sure to set the temp so it doesn't run as much while you are away from home. If you don't have one, then make sure to turn it up/down (depending on season) when you are away.
Shut off lights and fans when you are not in the room. Fans only cool you while you are in the room, they do not cool the room.
Replace your light bulbs with Energy Smart/Florescent bulbs. You can save lots of money on your electric bill, check out the info about how much you can save here.
If you live in a place where you can, ride your bike more (burn the fuel in your belly instead of your engine!) OR carpool. This can really help you save money on gas.
When you do go out try to do everything in one trip. You waste a lot of gas having to make several trips out, gas=$

While having to search for a hotel for a wedding that we had to go to last weekend my wife and I got on retailmenot.com to hopefully squeeze in our budget the expense of a hotel, we were able to score a double tree for $54 a night although it wasn't in the budget it sure eased the pain. Although I don't qualify there are only 4 days left to take advantage of the $8000 1st time home buyer tax credit. It seems like the moons have aligned to buy a house now, the prices are low, the interest rates are low, and then the government will give 8k, jeez I sound like one National Association of Realtors commercials. I wonder if this process is as hard all other government red tape or if it is as straight forward as the Fed website says. If anybody has been involved in the process please leave a comment and tell us about it.
