Vacations are nice but they usually are not long enough. I find myself needing a vacation after my vacation. Christmas break is especially difficult because much of it is spent running from here to there. Not much time for relaxing. But maybe vacations are not always meant to be relaxing but instead to get you out of your regular routine.
During my vacations I usually try and get other things done, like working on my blogs and such. I don’t seem to be getting much done though. I am feeling the pressure of next week only a few days away. I guess I will just try to do the best I can.
I am trying to make some goals for myself as well. I do find the new year a good time to start new things. I think it’s also a good idea to start of a new year with some ideas on how you want thing to change or improve. I find it helpful to me.

Happy New Year!

After seeing the Twilight movie with three other ladies that read the book I decided to go ahead and read the book. I know it’s tradition to read the book first but it sounds like from the reaction of the other ladies maybe it’s a good idea I didn’t read the book first.

I thought the movie was pretty good. It wasn’t great but it was good. There are a few scenes that I thought were a bit silly. When Edward grabs Bella and runs in the forest - that was a bit silly. I think producers messed up on that one. Edwards fast run just looked silly. Maybe he should have had a run like Clark Kent in Smallville- where you can’t actually see the legs moving.

So I started reading the book today and I like it so far. I read the first chapter and I like that it’s more detailed than the movie. Not a surprise but glad Twilight the book is better. I was told by several people that the book is way better than the movie.

It’s interesting reading a book after you have seen the movie. Instead of imaging my own characters I imaging the actors in the movie. Everything that was in the movie is already in my head so I don’t have to make anything up unless I have forgotten the way it looked in the movie or a part of the book was left out.

So here I am- probably the last person on Earth that hasn’t read the books. I am excited to find out all I missed and can already tell that it will be a good book. So I better go read ;o).

Here is something you probably don’t know about me. I have always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. When I was a child I took a handful of piano lessons but for some reason or another my father didn’t continue with the lessons. I still would love to learn how to play the piano but as I got older I fell in love with the cello.

At this point in our financial state piano or cello lessons for me are out of the question. My daughter is taking piano lesson and my son is taking bass guitar lessons and that is as much as we can afford right now. I am thrilled that my children have the opportunity to do things that I wish I could have done as a child. My turn with come one day and even if it doesn’t I can be happy with what my children where able to have.

I have decided that I would try and learn the guitar instead of waiting for my turn to learn the cello or piano. My husband and my kids (both kids know guitar basics) have been helping me learn the basics. I have been teaching myself cords and slowly but surely I am learning an instrument.

I actually have two friends that are guitar teachers and I don’t know why I didn’t think about this before. I can get tips and learn at my own pace. I may never be a Jimmy Hendricks but at least I can learn to play an instrument. One day I hope that because I learned to play a stringed instrument it will help me learn the cello as well.

Have you ever been so disconnected from something for a long period of time that it was difficult to reconnect? This is the way I feel about blogging. I have been having a difficult time keeping up with my blogging obligations that it’s has left me feeling disappointed in myself. imposter

When I actually do get back to blogging- like I am doing now- I feel like I am accomplishing something and don’t usually have a lose for words. My life has been very busy lately so my biggest challenge is just getting on the computer to begin with.

What I really need to do is get back to my blogging schedule. I had a good blogging schedule going for a while but then the kids school started and that always seems to be when my other obligations become difficult to manage. It’s the same story. I don’t know that it will ever change.

I am discovering that I can only manage certain amount of responsibilities well. As much as I would like to believe I can do it all, I can’t. Actually I can do it all but can’t seem to do it all well. I hold a lot of hats and the ones that are closest to my head are the ones that get the most attention and are most securely in place. The hats that are way up there seem to be just teetering and are about to fall off at the slightest hiccup in my life. I usually try to pick the hat back up and place it in it’s previous compromised and neglected position but it usually falls off again and again.

I suppose if I were more organized things would be managed better. But learning to become organized seems to be just another hat on my head. It’s way, way up at the top.

The moral of the story is to never give up and keep on trying. Or maybe it’s keep things that are most important to you in balance and don’t worry so much about the other stuff? Or maybe the moral is don’t wear too many hats? Ok, I don’t know what the moral is, I am still trying to figure it out for myself ;o).

Wow! It’s been a while since I have blogged. I am not sure why it has taken me so long to get back to blogging except for the usually crazy life I live.
I am still try to manage my time better. Sometimes I feel like I need another me. Specifically another me that has great organization and time management skills. I guess that really would be me at all would it.
The kids have been in school for a few months now. Things are going ok so far. My kids are doing very well in school and hope to keep it that way. The life of a homeschooling parent is not for the faint of heart. There are times I question why I am doing this and feel like quitting. But right now I think this is the best choice for my kids. My kids are learning how to be self-starters and hard workers. What more could I ask for?
I was having a conversation with a friend the other day and we were talking about children being well balanced. Someone once described my oldest daughter as well balanced. I thought that was a great compliment.
My children are intelligent, creative, well behaved, energetic, self-confident, daring, quiet and many more great qualities that make a well-balanced child. Don’t get me wrong though, my kids have their share of faults but I have discovered that if we strive to offer our kids ways to express themselves in many different ways they have a better chance of having diverse interests and talents.
When I think back to how my parents raised me they always where very supportive of my dreams but also encouraged me to develop intellectually as well as creatively. They also told me I could be anything I wanted to be. Not until recently did I realize how important those words are to me as an adult. My parents instilled in me the belief that if I work at I can do anything I want to do.

Money, time and all kinds of other stuff has prevented us from getting away together as a couple.
We are actually going to a wedding. My husband has been asked to be a groomsman in a wedding of a young couple at our church. The wedding is a few hours away in a nice area and I am just thrilled to be going. We get to stay in a nice hotel for a couple of days. Yippy!
This weekend also happens to be my birthday weekend so it’s even more fun for me to be able to get away.

The kids started school a few weeks ago and so far we have been doing very well. My work has been suffering a bit but I have to keep my family life before work life.

The teenager is now in 11th grade. I can’t believe she only have two years of high school left. We have been looking into college information. I am trying to impress upon her the importance of planning ahead. We went to college night the other day and I think that really gave her better insight into the importance of planning ahead.

The boy is almost a teenager and he is doing really well in all of his subjects so far. There are some things we need to work on this year. His weakness is reading and writing so we will be doing a lot of both to help him catch up.

The toddler is almost four. I started doing more “preschool” stuff with her. So now she gets to do school when brother and sister are doing school.

The last two weeks I haven’t been able to ride much but I am hoping I will get some riding in this week.

There are more things happening in my life of course but I am running out of time for blogging. Till next time!

So, I did it. I had my first internet radio interview. I was an experience I will never forget. I was extremely nervous and not sure I made a whole lot of sense but at least it’s done and over with ;o).
Debbie Alan, is a great host and I appreciate her having such a novice on the show. Though I prepared for the show for weeks, my nerves got the best of me. So when you listen to the broadcast understand that there are things I wish I could have said differently or not at all.
There are a few things I wish I had mentioned. I wish I had mentioned the co-authors of HerProBlog.COM because they are really a vital part of the site. I also wish I had elaborated more on the purpose of HerProBlog.COM. It’s a great site and I don’t think I did it justice by my explanation.
Overall, I think the interview was an experience I can learn from. I now have the opportunity to improve myself. Public speaking is definitely one of my weaknesses. The interview experience has motivated me to develop better public speaking skills.
A friend of mine, Stacy, gave me some advice on public speaking and interviewing before the show. If it were not for her things would have gone much differently in the interview. Stacy coached me and gave me a few mock interviews that were extremely helpful.

So what have I taken away from this experience?

Like with anything, there must be a first time. It’s important to learn from your first experiences and improve yourself.

Think of mistakes as opportunities for improvement. No one becomes an expert overnight. Mistakes can teach us if we allow them to.

Well, I was supposed to be a guest on the On The HomeStretch internet radio broadcast but it never happened. It’s kind of funny actually.

I was supposed to be on the 10:45 slot and was told that I would be called at about 10:40. So I am sitting there waiting, and waiting. 10:45 comes around and I am thinking well maybe they are just running behind today. So, I wait some more and then it’s 10:55 and I am thinking there must be something wrong.

I thought to myself “Did I pay the phone bill?”. All kinds of things went through my head including, “Did I even give them my phone number?”, and “Maybe they decided they did want me on the show.”

After checking my email, I realized what had happened. I did give them my phone number but some how the wrong phone number was recorded or I gave them the wrong number. So, when 10:40 rolled around they did try to call me but it was the wrong number ;o). Is that funny or what?

I have to be honest, I was really looking forward to my first radio experience being behind me. But, I guess that is not how it was supposed to happen. I do have another opportunity to though, next week same time, same place. I really appreciate Debbie giving me another chance to make my radio appearance.

If you are interested in hearing the show I never showed up to -you might find it humors. They mentioned me several times.

On The HomeStretch is an internet radio show featuring issues that impact women over the age of 35. I was asked to talk on the show about the benefits of blogging. The show’s host is Debbie Alan, not be be confused with Debbie Allen the 1989 “Fame” star.

Debbie Alan, the radio host also hosted the internationally syndicated, “America’s Dumbest Criminals” TV show and was also the original host of New Channel 5’s “Talk of the Town” show in Nashville, Tennessee.

This is a new chapter in my online experience. This will be my very first radio interview. I am very honored to have been asked to be on the show and now I just pray I won’t screw up ;o) .

The show is on August 20th @ 10:45 CT
