Diet and Weight Loss Tutorial

When we eat, our body converts digestible carbohydrates into
blood sugar (glucose), our main source of energy. Our blood sugar level can affect how hungry and how energetic we feel, both important factors when we are watching how we eat and exercise. It also determines whether we burn fat or store it.

Our pancreas creates a hormone called insulin that transports blood sugar into our body’s cells where it is used for energy. When we eat refined grains that have had most of their fiber stripped away, sugar, or other carbohydrate-rich foods that are quickly processed into blood sugar, the pancreas goes into overtime to produce the insulin necessary for all this blood
sugar to be used for energy. This insulin surge tells our body that plenty of energy is readily available and that it should stop burning fat and start storing it. However, the greater concern with the insulin surge is not
that it tells our body to start storing fat. Whatever we eat and don’t burn up eventually gets turned into fat anyway.

The greater concern is that the insulin surge causes too much blood sugar to be ransported out of our blood and this results in our blood sugar and insulin levels dropping below normal. This leaves us feeling tired and hungry and wanting to eat more. The unfortunate result of this scenario is that
it makes us want to eat something else with a high sugar content. When we do, we start the cycle all over again.

• Simple Carbohydrates: Because of their small molecular
  size, simple carbohydrates can be metabolized quickly and are therefore most
  likely to cause an insulin surge.
  

  Simple carbohydrates include the various forms of sugar,
  such as sucrose (table sugar), fructose (fruit sugar), lactose (dairy sugar),
  and glucose (blood sugar). Watch for the “-ose” ending.

  
  
• Hidden Sugar in Processed Foods: Watch for “hidden” sugar
  in processed foods like bread, ketchup, salad dressing, canned fruit,
  applesauce, peanut butter, and soups.
  
• Sugar in Beverages: Be aware of the amount of sugar in
  beverages, especially coffee and soda pop. It can add up quickly, and most
  such drinks aren’t filling.
  
• Fat-Free Products: Sugar is often used to replace the
  flavor that is lost when the fat is removed. And as if that’s not bad enough,
  without any fat to slow it down the sugar is absorbed into your blood faster.
  
• Cereal Box Claims of Less Sugar: Many newer cereals do
  contain less sugar, but the calories, carbohydrates, fat, fiber and other
  nutrients are almost identical to the full-sugar cereals. The manufacturers
  have simply replaced sugar with other refined, simple carbohydrates.
  
• No Sugar Added: It doesn’t mean that the product doesn’t
  naturally contain a lot of sugar. 100% fruit products often contain
  concentrated fruit juice, still another form of fructose or sugar.
  

  Table sugar (sucrose) is often said to provide “empty
  calories” because it has no nutritional value other than providing fuel for
  energy. Honey and other more natural sugars, on the other hand, are often
  considered to be healthier because of the trace vitamins and minerals they
  provide. Still, for weight loss purposes, all of these sweeteners can simply
  be treated as sugar.

It is also important to understand what happens when you skip
a meal or go on a crash diet. When you skip a meal your metabolism slows to
conserve your energy. And when you lose weight too quickly for a few days, your
body thinks it is threatened with starvation and goes into survival mode. It
fights to conserve your fat stores, and any weight loss comes mostly from water
and muscle.

Regulating your blood sugar level is the most effective way
to maintain your fat-burning capacity. Never skip a meal, especially breakfast,
and eat healthy snacks between meals. Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs
and the binges that follow, provides consistent energy, and may be the single
most effective way to maintain metabolism efficiency.

When you will be away from home or work, plan your snacks and
take them along so that you will be able to eat regularly and won’t be tempted
by junk food. This may be good advice for people who stay at home, too.

But remember that it was probably snacking between meals that
caused you to become overweight in the first place. It will be very important
that any snacks are healthy; that they are pre-portioned so you won’t be tempted
to overeat; and that meal sizes are reduced to compensate for the additional
calories the snacks provide.

High fiber snacks and meals also help to regulate your blood
sugar level. The fiber slows down glucose absorption and your rate of digestion,
keeping your blood sugar level more consistent and warding off feelings of
hunger. This makes eating apples and oranges a better choice than drinking (pulp
free) apple and orange juice.

Some people either produce too little insulin or their body
doesn’t respond to it properly. This creates too high a level of blood sugar in

I went to super ultra strict all girls catholic school, where we study latin, greek, memorize chapters of history and social sciences, math, physics and chemistry. Failure “to know your stuff” usually guarantee you a trip to sister Exume’s office for a skirt holding spanking. Although taking this trip down memory lane kinda make me slightly angry and wanna pull sister Exume’s wig out… (I never did) I’m in no way Aggressive! All the girl from my promotion are Doctors, Lawyers, Computer engineers, Nurses, Teachers… strong smart women. When we occasionally meet or facebook we hardly recall the spankings but all the good time and fun we’ve had in school.
My point is our IQ’s didn’t drop we grew up to be smart successful women.

That was just spanking at school… Now at home: although my mom had master “the look” (you know the one that goes “boy you gonna get IT”)to a point that she didn’t even need to spank anymore. Occasionally someone would get out of line and get spank. I got spank a number of time, My sister got spanked quite a lot, and my brother got spanked a whole lot. He is Electrical engineer graduate top in his call they even ran out A’s to give him. Great kid! never got him trouble or anything. My sister’s a Nurse smart successful woman also, and I am a computer engineer, happy, never been to a shrink chair nor plan to. We never got in a fight or behave anywhere aggressively. Once in a while I have to call on Jesus to help not pull someone wigs out… but who hasn’t? especially when someone walk up to me and told me my cute little baby was too FAT and I need to put her on a diet pfft!
(If you get a beat down it has nothing to do with me being spanked as a child) So my study totally contradict their study. I wonder what exactly they mean by “spanking”?

Spanking is NOT ABUSE! it’s not smashing heads and beating like they just stole from the king. The Bible say “spare the rods spoil the child” and turn around and said “do not irritate your child” so IMO spanking is not something you do out of anger, you don’t just lashed out on your kids like you crazy. Spanking is correcting with love and patience, not pounding on a child like a boxing bag. I’m pretty sure if we compare their idea of spanking and what I know we could probably agree on something… Anyway I know this is a sensitive subject so what do you think? were you spanked as a child? do you think it has affect you in any way? A few weeks ago I went to one of The “Prevention Works” workshop hosted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Quite frankly I went for the free lunch, but boy am I glad I like to eat. As they were going over the slides, state the numbers and show those videos my heart nearly stops. It was like an episode of criminal minds but only it was real. It is a crazy world out there! I feel it is my obligation to share this with you moms. I have a hard time putting my kids in the nursery for a few hours where I know they are being cared for. I can’t even imagine my child goes missing and not even know where to look. This is every parent’s nightmare, no moms want to be in the evening news about a missing child. Abduction is preventable Here are a few things you can do to make sure your kids are safe.

How parents can protect children from abduction
* Know where your children are at all times and who they are with.
* Never leave your child alone in a public place, stroller or car.
* Always accompany younger children to a public restroom.
* Teach your children not to accept rides and gifts from strangers.
* Always accompany your child on door-to-door activities, i.e. Halloween, school fundraising campaigns, etc.
* Establish a routine for picking your children up from school or other events.
* Agree on a simple code word for emergency situations. A trusted adult who knows the code word can pick up your child if necessary.
* Make sure your child knows their full name, address and phone number.
* Teach your child how to reach you (home, office, mobile)
* Teach your child how to call the police.
* Have a plan in case your child gets separated from you in public.
* Teach your child to stay in groups of friends when going anywhere .
* Tell your children about child abductions in simple and easy to understand terms. Awareness can help them protect themselves.
* Avoid clothing and toys with your child’s name on it. A child may not fear someone who knows his/her name.
* Promote an environment in which your child feels free to talk to you.
* Let your child know that you will pick them up at any time, any place.
* Listen closely when your child talks about friends or aquaintances they spend time with in your absence.
* Check all potential babysitters and older friends of your child.
* Teach your child to recognize suspicious behavior and collect descriptions.
* Urge your child to think escape / survival if he or she were ever abducted.
* Speak to your local law enforcement agency to find out about neighborhood watch.
* Get to know your neighbors and the children in the area. Make sure your child’s friends know your house is safe and they can seek help from you.
* Check with your local law enforcement to find out if there are sexual offenders in your area.
* Use a system such as KidSave to organize your child’s photo and child ID card with pertinent descriptive data.
* Keep up-to-date medical/dental history and finger print cards.
* Teach your child that there is always someone to help them, and they have the right to be safe.
Patterns of abduction
* In abduction cases, the first few hours are the most critical.
* 75% of abductions are by a family member or an acquaintance.
* Only 25% of kids are taken by strangers.The majority of these abductors are men
* When kids are taken by strangers, 66% of the victims are female children.
* 76% percent of victims are Caucasian females with and average age of 11 years.
* Infant abductions are fairly rare, but the abductors are usually women.
* Most abducted children are in their teens.
* Most abductors/predators are usually highly skilled in the art of manipulation.
* Abductors/predators often single out a lone child or one that is out late at night alone.
* Abductors/predators usually befriend their victim.
* Abductors/predators singls out children or teenagers that seem to have problems at home.
* Abductors/predators identify and pursue at-risk children or teens is.
* Many child abductors/predators were victims of domestic violence themselves.
* The majority of children reported missing are either run-aways or there has been a miscommunication with their parents.
Stranger Danger is not always true. While strangers do use tricks to abduct children stats shows that almost half the time its someone they know – so make sure you know who comes in contact with your children.

Recognizing signs of child sexual abuse
* Changes in behavior, extreme mood swings, withdrawal, fearlessness, excessive crying
* Bed-wetting, nightmares, fear of going to bed and sleep disorders
* Acting out inappropriate sexual activity or showing unusual interest in sexual matters
* A sudden acting out of feelings or aggressive, rebellious behavior
* Regression to infantile behavior
* A fear of certain places, people or activities
* Pain, itching, bleeding, fluid or rawness in the private areas
