RIHAC – Continuous Ink Supply System

I am going to skip the “I am sorry I haven’t updated my blog for a while”. With that out of the way, 2010 has been great for me. Haven’t done and major purchases in terms of glass, but I’ve bought couple of small bits and pieces for my lighting gear. On another note, printers tend to have this hatred against me, they always either run out of ink or literally break down during the most crucial moments. At first I bought a laser printer (Samsung CLP), and when the ink ran out, I tried to install a chip to reset the ink meter. That turned out to be a disaster, I rushed the job and I ended up getting electrocuted. So I dumped the printer and bought myself an InkJet printer. I knew ink costed heaps so I looked for other alternatives.

I came across a terminology I’ve never heard before, CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System). The pictures are pretty self explanatory, instead of refilling your cartridges everytime it runs out (sorry printer manufacturers), you can pipe the ink into the cartridges from an external ink reservoir. This solved all my problems with ink, now I just have to hope that the printer wont die on me. I did a little research in terms of which brand to buy, and I discovered RIHAC through the forums. I definitely recommend their range, don’t buy cheap alternatives as they will most definitely disappoint you in one way or another, ie: leaking, bad quality ink (After all if you want to do you own photo prints, you are going to want the best possible ink). Installation was fairly simple but may get a little bit messy if you are not careful. In terms of print quality, I can’t tell the difference between original Canon ink and RIHAC ink. Of course I am no printing genius, but it looked fine from where I was standing.

All in all, $140 is not a lot of money to spend when compared to thousands of dollars that you would have to spend buying original ink cartridges of the same quantity (100ml each colour).

Photoset: Gold Coast Beach Shoot with Amy O’Farrell

On the 14th November I had a shoot with the awesome Amy O’Farrell. Special thanks to Jenny Ockenden the Make-Up Artist and also to Raymon Suen for assisting with the shoot. Shot was taken place at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Particularly at Miami Beach. I used a Nikon D700 with the Nikkor 50mm 1.8D and 85mm 1.8D. My Nikon D90 is still in the repair shop (Mental note: Don’t ever use Camera Clinic again for repairs, it takes 4 weeks to get them to LOOK at it, and I’ve recently found out they only ship once a week which is just ridiculous). Strangely I found the D700 to have pretty bad ergonomics around the grip. I blame it on Raymond for showing me his Canon 30D, the grip on that body is amazing. Enjoy the photos…

Photo5 Entry – Portraiture 2009

I’ve been wondering for a long time whether I should upload and share my attempts for the Canon Photo5 competition. Finally, I couldn’t hold it any longer cause these images were so fun to make! I just hope no one is stupid enough to steal these ideas. Hope you guys like it and if you have lots of money, ask me for the judge’s contact details so you can send them a bribe on behalf of me. I really liked these images as well but it didn’t have the same aura of the first photo.
