Now TSA and Google want to make that part feel a little more modern.

The Transportation Security Administration has launched a new TSA PreCheck Touchless ID opt-in experience through Google Wallet. That does not mean Touchless ID itself is brand-new. TSA has already been expanding the program at airports across the United States. The important part is that Google Wallet is now joining the system, making it easier for eligible travelers to connect their digital ID and boarding pass experience in one place.

For millions of Android users, that matters. Google Wallet is already where many people keep payment cards, boarding passes, tickets, and digital IDs. Adding TSA PreCheck Touchless ID to that ecosystem makes airport security feel less like a separate ritual and more like another phone-based travel step.

The system is meant for TSA PreCheck travelers. According to TSA, eligible users can opt in through Google Wallet after adding a boarding pass and setting up the required digital ID information. Once TSA confirms the enrollment, Google Wallet updates the boarding pass with a TSA PreCheck Touchless ID indicator. At participating airports, travelers can then use dedicated lanes where facial comparison technology verifies their identity without the usual document handoff.

In other words, your face and phone do more of the talking.

Of course, this is still an airport, so the old rules of chaos have not been fully repealed. Someone will still stand ahead of you trying to scan a Walmart card, a hotel key, and possibly a 2014 frozen yogurt rewards card before finding the actual boarding pass. Technology can improve travel. It cannot fully defeat human improvisation.

TSA also makes clear that travelers should still carry a physical ID as backup. That is probably wise. A dead phone battery at the wrong moment can turn the future of travel back into a very traditional conversation with a security officer.

The timing is interesting because airline travel is moving in two very different directions. In Europe, lawmakers have been pushing the idea that free carry-on bags should be treated more like a basic passenger right. In the U.S., many travelers still live in a world where some fares make it feel like you are allowed one toothbrush, one T-shirt, and the quiet dignity of not asking for overhead bin space.

So no, Google Wallet will not make airlines more generous with baggage. It will not turn basic economy into business class. But it could make the checkpoint smoother, especially for frequent flyers already living inside their phones.

It also fits the broader airport trend. Airlines are investing in better airport lounges, faster premium services, and more polished terminal experiences because the airport itself has become part of the product. Travelers may still complain about fees, delays, and crowded boarding areas, but the industry knows one thing: if flying cannot always be cheaper, it can at least be made to feel less miserable.

For TSA PreCheck members, the Google Wallet integration is not a revolution. It is a practical upgrade. And in modern air travel, practical upgrades are often the best kind.

‘Hannibal’ Returns to Netflix

Created by Bryan Fuller and based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ books Red Dragon, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising—but not Silence of the Lambs—the horror-thriller revolved around FBI investigator Will Graham’s relationship with forensic scientist/serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

The series debuted on NBC back in April 2024 and was beloved by critics, who praised the lead performances from Mads Mikkelsen as Lecter and Hugh Dancy as Graham, respectively. 

In their initial review, Variety called the show “the tastiest drama the network has introduced in awhile,” celebrating its “provocative twists” and “unsettling atmosphere.” Roger Ebert reviewer Brian Tallerico, meanwhile, said it was the “Best Drama on Television” by the time Season 3 premiered. 

As the show struggled in the ratings throughout its run, NBC decided not to renew it for a fourth season. At the time, Entertainment Weekly posted a whole op-ed about why the show should be saved, as it was clearly incredibly beloved amongst those who did tune in every week. 

Could ‘Hannibal’ Return for More?

The series ended with quite a shock, as (SPOILER ALERT!) Will and Hannibal were seen falling to their presumed deaths off a cliff. That being said, Fuller and the show’s stars have all been pretty vocal about wanting to return for more fun in the Hannibal universe. The series has also amassed a strong cult following since it went off the air.

The rights to the characters, however, has been in flux in recent years, especially following the death of Martha De Laurentiis in 2021.

“There is a regathering and a reordering of where those rights will land,” Fuller told Polygon earlier this year. “And it may be easier to do a Silence of the Lambs story that weaves in those characters and the story in a way that actually sets them up for a bigger story that can be organic, and might not have to navigate all of the rights.” 

Fuller has previously shared he’d love to cast Zendaya as Clarice Starling, the young FBI agent made famous by Jodie Foster in the Silence of the Lambs film, should he ever get approval to adapt that book. 

Speaking with The Horror Queers podcast in late 2025, Fuller said he also knows what a Season 4 would look like. 

“I know exactly what season 4 of Hannibal is, and I was frustrated with Season 1. That felt a little more like traditional television to me. There was a lot more ‘murder mystery of the week’ crime procedural kind of things. I was not necessarily drawn to that as an audience member,” he said at the time. 

“But I thought Season 2 was better. Season 3, I was like, ‘Okay, this is what we should be doing. This is what I want to be doing. This is the type of storytelling that I think the show can do,’” he added. “And there are a lot of people who don’t like Season 3, and I was like, ‘Well then, you really don’t want a Season 4, because that’s it.’ If you’re not down with Season 3, then you’re not going to be grooving on the plan for Season 4 because it’s following that arc.”

Fans can revisit the show’s first—and, for now, only—three seasons on Netflix starting July 24.

The climb is always agonizing from the pits, as poor cell and satellite service mean some teams must rely only on TV coverage of their attempt to see how things are going. After seeing the car off, Chevrolet race team members sprinted back to their garage to watch the attempt live. After an agonizing, but incredibly short wait, the ZR1X crossed the line in 9:30.104, a full 23 seconds faster than the previous production car record. Despite 1,250 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and a huge V8 behind his head to provide power and grip, Hildebrand says the course isn't easy. "It’s a 12.42-mile course with 156 corners, where the start line is at 9,400 feet of elevation and the finish is in the clouds at 14,100 feet. The nature of the circuit itself is an enormous challenge."

"When we do a full range of motion pushup—as I always advocate for building the entire upper-body—it's that last bit of extension that really works the triceps and is responsible for helping complete the development of the upper-body, beyond just the shoulders and chest," says Jeff Cavaliere, MSPT, CSCS, of Athlean-X, in a recent video. "That being said, it's also a fatiguing portion of the repetition."

Thus, every time you push back to full extension with the arms in a traditional pushups, the triceps take on a lot of the load, ultimately putting a limit on your total number of reps. And when your goal is to build any muscle with a bodyweight exercise, total training volume has to be higher since overall mechanical tension is lower compared to weighted exercises.

So, to drive up tension and accumulate higher volume while also putting more focus on the chest itself, prisoner pushups keep you in "half rep" pushup territory, where the pecs are under greater stretch.

"You'll find that doing this half rep prisoner pushup is going to get you around one and a half to two times the number of repetitions that you can do in any single set of a traditional pushup," Cavaliere says.

How to Do Prisoner Pushups

1. Start in a standard pushup position with hands under shoulders and body in a straight line.
2. Lower yourself until your chest is just above the floor. Instead of pressing all the way up to full lockout, stop short of the top and stay in the lower half of the range of motion.
3. Perform quick, controlled reps, focusing on a steady rhythm.

"Hands down, the most effective exercises for building strength for your first chinup are those that target your grip, and those that mimic the motion of the chinup," says Casey Lee, trainer, strength and conditioning coach, and owner of Purposeful Strength. "I’m a big fan of utilizing level 1 and level 2 TRX chinups to start the journey to your first chinup."

TRX chinups help train your grip by holding on for a higher rep set, while also mimicking the chinup movement pattern using a percentage of your bodyweight. Train the exercise two to three times per week, and you'll build the necessary strength to complete your first unassisted rep.

How to Do TRX Chinups

Start with lower sets and reps. As you get stronger and more comfortable with TRX chinups, you can add in that third or fourth set and work towards 10 reps a piece. For a level 2 progression, raise your feet to an elevated surface rather than keeping your heels on the ground.

1. Shorten the TRX straps and lower yourself to the ground with knees bent, heels on the ground, arms extended, and palms facing you.
2. Pull your body up toward the straps until your chin clears your hands.
3. Pause at the top, then lower under control until your arms are fully extended.
4. Perform 2 to 4 sets of 6 to 10 reps during your upper-body workouts.

As you work towards your first chinup, Lee suggests the two exercises below as ways to measure your strength progress.

How to Do TRX Row Hold

1. Hold the TRX handles with your body leaning back and arms extended.
2. Row your body up until your elbows are bent about 90 degrees and your chest is close to the handles, aiming for a 45-degree angle with your body.
3. Hold the position for as long as possible, aiming for 30 seconds.

How to Do Flexed Arm Hang

Tougher than the TRX row hold, a flexed arm hang is a great way to test grip and upper-back strength, getting you closer to the strength required to get that first chinup.

1. Stand under a pullup bar. Jump to the top position with arms bent and chin above the bar.
2. Maintain the top position without letting your chin drop below the bar.
3. Perform 2 sets of 20-second holds, taking 60-second rest periods in between.

"The low-FODMAP diet was developed specifically for people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)," says Zain Kassam, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer at Seed Health. "If someone has received an IBS diagnosis and is experiencing chronic bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, or a combination of those, and has not found adequate relief through basic dietary modifications, a low-FODMAP trial is a reasonable and well-supported intervention."

The three-phase elimination diet is temporary, but restricts individuals from from eating a wide range of everyday foods. Before giving it a try yourself, read on to learn who it's right for, mistakes to avoid, and how it works.

What is Low FODMAP?

"FODMAP" stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols, which is a group of short-chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and can trigger symptoms in sensitive individuals. Essentially, a low-FODMAP diet temporarily eliminates such foods to identify and manage food triggers.

Multiple randomized controlled trials have shown that a low-FODMAP diet leads to meaningful symptom improvement in roughly 50 to 80 percent of IBS patients, particularly for bloating, abdominal pain, and altered bowel habits.

"A low-FODMAP diet isn't meant to be permanent. It's designed as a three-phase process: a short restriction period to see if FODMAPs are triggering your symptoms, followed by a structured reintroduction and then personalization," Kassam says. "The goal is to identify your specific triggers so you can eat as broadly as possible while keeping symptoms under control. Most people find they can bring back a significant number of foods once they know which ones are actually causing problems."

Common Mistakes

Remember, a low-FODMAP diet should not be treated as a permanent diet. There are three phases: restriction, reintroduction, and personalization. The restriction phase should only last about four to six weeks. Research has found that strict FODMAP restriction reduces levels of beneficial gut bacteria that play an important role in gut health, likely because many high-FODMAP foods are also prebiotic sources that feed those bacteria.

"Most people do the first phase, skip the second, and never reach the third—which means they end up on a highly restrictive diet indefinitely without ever identifying which specific FODMAPs are actually problematic for them," Kassam says.

Poor execution during the restriction phase also tends to trip people up. Hidden FODMAPs are everywhere, from condiments to your favorite protein bars. In turn, people inadvertently consume FODMAPs throughout elimination and then conclude the diet doesn't work.

Low-FODMAP Reintroduction Phase

Once the elimination phase is over, it's time to reintroduce foods. The standard approach is to reintroduce one FODMAP subgroup at a time—fructans one week, lactose the next—while keeping everything else stable. Each challenge food should be introduced at a low dose first, then a moderate dose, monitoring symptoms carefully over about three days before moving to the next subgroup.

"The full reintroduction phase usually takes six to ten weeks, and ideally should be guided by a GI dietitian. If GI symptoms return, that FODMAP is likely a trigger. If they don't, you've identified something you can safely add back, which is the whole point," Kassam says. "The goal of reintroduction isn't to confirm everything is a problem. It's to identify the smallest necessary restriction that gives you symptom control while keeping your diet, and your microbiome, as diverse as possible."

A low-FODMAP is not a first line recommendation for everyone with GI symptoms. Before jumping to FODMAP restriction, it's worth meeting with a doctor to rule out other causes of chronic GI symptoms and working with a clinician or registered dietitian who can guide the dietary education and implementation.

"The racing for us, especially in IndyCar, it's very physical," Dixon says. "There's no power assist, no power steering. G loads are four to five G. Your average heart rate—mine is a max of 170, 175— you're kind of at 85 percent throughout that two to two and a half hour period race."

Endurance and Functional Strength Training

Training looks different based on time of the year. In the off-season, training is geared towards building muscle, aerobic base, and conditioning. Cycling, running, swimming, ski erg, and rowing are all machines used regularly in training. For weight training, there's a big focus on isometric work. A bench press, for example, might be performed for time, with pauses halfway through each rep that require holding the load for five seconds to build muscular endurance. In season, there's a greater focus on interval training mixed with cognitive work.

"While maintaining strength, power, endurance, and mobility remain critical, a significant portion of Scott’s program focuses on cognitive performance training designed to sharpen and sustain the elite reaction times, visual processing speed, decision-making efficiency, peripheral awareness, and mental resilience required to compete at the front of the field," says Jim Leo, president of PitFit.

Strength work also blends into conditioning circuits, and Dixon is a big fan of kettlebell training. Kettlebell squats, incline presses, pullups, and loaded carries are often strung together into AMRAP-style sessions. The dynamic nature of kettlebell training builds measurable gains in total-body strength, stability, coordination, power transfer, and work capacity while keeping training engaging and efficient. Kettlebell sessions improve movement efficiency, reinforce race-specific physical demands, and enhance the durability needed to withstand the stresses of an IndyCar season, according to Leo.

The "Death Ladder" Workout

One of Dixon's favorite conditioning workout is the "Death Ladder," an endurance challenge that combines rower and ski erg intervals, guaranteed to keep your heart rate high for the duration.

Start with a 100-meter row and a 1,000-meter ski erg effort. Each round, add 100 meters to the row and subtract 100 meters from the ski erg until you finish with a 1,000-meter row and a 100-meter ski erg.

Throughout the '60s, the rock and roll genre was largely defined by the "British Invasion." New music groups from the United Kingdom, such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Mindbenders, Cream and the Who had taken over the music industry.

By the mid-60s, prominent musicians from the previous decade had experienced a noticeable decline in their album sales and popularity. This included the seemingly untouchable Elvis Presley, the biggest music star of the '50s.

Presley put his music on hold in 1961 to begin a Hollywood career at the advice of his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Eventually, the "King of Rock and Roll" lost his desire to continue making movies and developed an itch to return to the music scene.

And on this day, 58 years ago, Presley held a press conference to announce what would become known as the '68 Comeback Special.

Presley performed at NBC Studios in Burbank, California, over a four-day period from June 27-30. This marked his first live performance in seven years. NBC aired the '68 Comeback Special on Dec. 3, 1968.

And just like that, Elvis was back.

Elvis Presley Reclaimed His Throne After the Comeback Special Aired

The NBC special showed that the King of Rock and Roll was still at the top of his game. According to Graceland.com, 42 percent of the American TV viewing audience watched his performance on Dec. 3.

On Aug. 26, 1969, Presley released “Suspicious Minds,” a significant hit that reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. In the early '70s, he continued the magic with more hits, including covers of "Burning Love," "The Wonder of You" and "Always on My Mind."

Written by Cara and songwriter Keith Forsey for the movie Flashdance, "What a Feeling" was an immediate success that ushered in a new era of dance-pop for the 1980s. With instrumentation and production from the legendary Giorgio Moroder, the song instantly resonated with audiences across the country.

While the song's success was undeniably carried by the popularity of Flashdance, the song has endured with a legacy of its own that can't be entirely attributed to the film. The track was a commercial giant, earning a Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales exceeding one million copies. It also took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song—the film's only win at the Oscars.

Prior to Flashdance, Cara had topped the charts in the United Kingdom with "Fame", which also reached No. 4 on the Hot 100. That song had been another giant success, previously winning Cara her first Oscar and proving that she was extremely talented at writing brief, catchy hooks that worked perfectly in the context of a movie soundtrack.

The success of "Fame" was clearly part of the reason Cara was recruited to write a track for Flashdance, and she somehow managed to replicate her achievement. This one didn't just top the charts in Europe—it also reached No. 1 in the U.S, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

However, this international success was bittersweet for Irene Cara, as it also made her realize that she wasn't being paid enough by her record label. The royalties stipulated in her contract were nowhere near what she was receiving, and the singer decided to take the issue to court. She was ultimately awarded a $1.5 million settlement by the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Unfortunately, this lawsuit also came with plenty of negative press, which tended to paint Cara as a difficult artist to work with. In the years that followed, she repeatedly claimed that her decision to stand up for herself and take the record label to court was the beginning of the end of her career, as no major labels would work with her again.

The first season of Dept. Q landed on Netflix in May 2025 to strong reviews, quickly becoming one of the streaming platform's biggest success stories. Just a few months later, Netflix confirmed that it would be returning—with several exciting names joining the cast. Almost a year later, Netflix has finally confirmed those additions.

Perhaps the biggest new name in Dept. Q's credits is Greg Wise, who is best known for playing Lord Louis Mountbatten in the first two seasons of Netflix's The Crown. He is also married to Academy Award-winning actress, Emma Thompson.

He will be joined in Dept. Q by Aisling Franciosi and Nicholas Rowe, who recently appeared in Speak No Evil and Red Eye season two, respectively. They will play the characters of Kimmie and Thomas Fulton, whose roles in the story have not yet been disclosed.

For those who haven't already devoured the first season of Netflix's hit drama, Dept. Q follows a detective returning to work after a traumatic incident that left his partner paralyzed and another officer dead. As he struggles to carry the burden of his past, a new case piques his interest.

The show received rave reviews from critics and currently sits at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even higher audience score of 90%. The show dominated Netflix's viewership charts for several weeks and remains one of the most-viewed shows of 2025.

Tony Curran, Hamish Clark, Alex Ferns, Rebecca Root, Isla Johnston, and Amy Brenneman round of the show's new additions. Netflix has also confirmed that Matthew Goode, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Jamie Sives, Mark Bonnar, Kate Dickie, Aaron McVeigh, and Sanjeev Kohli will all reprise their roles from the first season.

Production is currently underway in Edinburgh, Scotland for Dept. Q's second season, with filming expected to wrap up within the coming weeks and post-production expected to finish around December. The season does not currently have an official release date.

"I thought you should know that I recently received a kidney transplant from a very kind and generous living donor," Hall wrote in a message shared on Instagram. "It happened a couple of weeks ago, and I'm already starting to feel better. It was, according to my doctors, a complete success!"

The 79-year-old added that he expects to make a full recovery over the coming months.

"I should be back to normal in a few months," he wrote. "I'm looking forward to making more music and seeing everyone again soon."

Hall Has Battled Health Issues Before

This isn't the first time Hall has been open about his health.

In 2006, the singer revealed he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease after being bitten by a tick several years earlier. The illness forced him to cancel tour dates, and he later described living with symptoms that came and went.

"I was fine for four months then I might have tremors, headaches, fatigue," Hall said in a 2008 interview. "It's like a roving street gang of germs."

Despite those challenges, Hall has continued performing throughout much of the past two decades.

One Half of One of Music's Biggest Duos

Hall rose to fame alongside John Oates after the pair formed their musical partnership in the late 1960s. Over the next two decades, Hall & Oates became one of the most successful pop-rock duos of all time, producing a string of chart-topping hits including "Rich Girl," "Kiss on My List," "Private Eyes," "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)," "Maneater," and "Out of Touch."

Collider recently ranked the greatest Western villains of all time, and one character stood above the rest: Angel Eyes from Sergio Leone's 1966 masterpiece The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Why Angel Eyes Took the No. 1 Spot

Played by Lee Van Cleef, Angel Eyes isn't simply another outlaw looking for a payday. He's calculating, patient, and completely without a conscience.

Throughout The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Angel Eyes relentlessly hunts a cache of buried Confederate gold, leaving a trail of betrayal and murder behind him. Unlike many Western villains, he doesn't operate by any code of honor. If someone stands between him and what he wants, they're expendable.

Collider praised the character's chilling combination of "piercing eyes, sneering smirk, and callous charm," noting that he inspires fear simply by walking into a room. The publication also pointed to his willingness to betray even his own employer and abandon his allies if it benefits him, making him one of the most morally bankrupt characters ever seen in a Western.

Other Legendary Western Villains Also Made the List

While Angel Eyes claimed the top spot, Collider's ranking featured several other memorable antagonists from across Western history. Leonardo DiCaprio's cruel plantation owner Calvin Candie from Django Unchained finished second, followed by Lee Marvin's intimidating Liberty Valance from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

Javier Bardem's relentless Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men came in fourth, while Henry Fonda's shocking turn as Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West rounded out the top five.

The remainder of the top 10 included Little Bill Daggett (Unforgiven), Calvera (The Magnificent Seven), Lucky Ned Pepper (True Grit), Johnny Ringo (Tombstone), and Ben Wade (3:10 to Yuma).

A Villain Who Defined the Spaghetti Western

Angel Eyes has endured because he represents everything audiences fear in a Western antagonist.

He's intelligent, ruthless, and impossible to predict.

Combined with Lee Van Cleef's unforgettable performance and Sergio Leone's masterful direction, the character helped elevate The Good, the Bad and the Ugly into one of the greatest Westerns ever made.

With that out of the way, let’s get straight into my predictions:

Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker in a Steel Cage Match

While it’s a little surprising that WWE isn’t holding this back for SummerSlam, this feud has been going for quite a while now, so hopefully this is the finale. It’s somewhat deflating to think how much Breakker has been cooled off versus where he was entering 2026 when a lot of people thought he might dethrone then-champion CM Punk on the first Raw of the year. This is a good spot to start heating up Breakker again. Winner: Bron Breakker

Tiffany Stratton (C) vs. Jade Cargill: Women’s United States Championship Match

These two had a forgettable feud in 2025, and this feels like a speed bump on the road to a match between Cargill and Charlotte Flair. Winning this belt does next to nothing for Cargill, so I expect Flair to get involved here and cost her the match. Winner: Tiffany Stratton

Trick Williams (C) vs. Ricky Saints: United States Championship Match

This is another match that feels like it’s there to set up a future encounter between Williams, Saints, and Carmelo Hayes, likely at SummerSlam. In what could become a theme for this show, Hayes interferes, leading to a Williams retention. Winner: Trick Williams

Oba Femi vs. Jey Uso: King of the Ring Tournament Final

Would WWE really pull the trigger on Femi? I’m skeptical. On the flip side, would WWE really put Uso into a title match at SummerSlam after he’s been little more than a background player in the Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu saga? Ultimately, I still believe we’re getting Femi and Brock Lesnar in August. Lesnar makes a surprise appearance here, allowing Uso to get the win, setting up some Bloodline drama surrounding where WWE can string out whether Jey will choose to face Roman Reigns. Winner: Jey Uso

Liv Morgan vs. IYO SKY: Queen of the Ring Tournament Final

It’s difficult to overstate how underwhelming Morgan’s title reign has been. That WWE had so little for its champion to do that they stuck her in this tournament is puzzling. At least now, there appears to be a clear direction: SKY beats Morgan for the crown with a rematch coming at SummerSlam for the WWE Women’s World Championship. Winner: IYO SKY

Cody Rhodes (C) vs. Gunther vs. Sami Zayn: Undisputed WWE Championship Match

If ever there was a time and place to put the title on Zayn, this is it. His Syrian heritage has made him hugely popular in Saudi Arabia, and his recent character work is probably the best thing on WWE television lately. It’s also an opportunity to take the belt off Rhodes without him getting pinned. I’m not convinced WWE is ever giving Zayn a true main-event run, though, so while I’d love to see him get his moment, it’s more likely they play it safe and keep the belt on Rhodes. Winner: Cody Rhodes

Magic Mike actor Manganiello was at the peak of his career when his body began to fail, according to Simon & Schuster’s official synopsis: “A cascade of autoimmune-related illnesses attacked his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs, and digestive system, plunging him into a seven year battle, plagued by chronic pain, a life-saving organ amputation, existential crisis, and a prolonged fight for survival that left doctors with few answers and no clear explanation.”

This led Manganiello, 49, to less traditional methods in search of answers. The synopsis explains that “As Manganiello struggled to stay alive amidst medicine’s inability to fully explain what ailed him, an unorthodox path emerged—shamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long lost family records, and the rebirth of his own spirituality.”

The synopsis continues, saying the journey led him somewhere unexpected: “to a survivor of the Armenian genocide, to ancestors shaped by violence and displacement, and the hidden patterns shared by others living with chronic illness.”

In 2023, Manganiello was featured on the PBS series Find Your Roots, where he discovered that his biological lineage was not what he thought and that he was descended from survivors of the Armenian genocide on his mother's side and a Union soldier and freed slave on his father’s.

The Deal or No Deal Island host told Peoplethat although it was “the most brutally difficult time” in the actor's life, he hopes that the book “can give readers hope that answers and healing may lie for them on the other side of whatever they are fighting through.”

The memoir is “deeply personal” as Manganiello writes about “illness, inheritance, masculinity, faith, ambition, and the identities we build to endure.” More broadly, the publisher synopsis continues, “More than a memoir of medical crisis, it is a searching account of what happens when the life you have constructed can no longer contain the truth of what you carry.”

Manganiello first got his start in professional film in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, but his breakout role was in the HBO series True Blood. He later appeared in smaller roles in films and television before being cast in the Magic Mike franchise. He has also appeared in numerous films and shows, most recently playing Mr. 0 in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece. He also hosted the two-season reality competition show, Deal or No Deal Island.

Bloodlines is available now for preorder and will be officially released on October 13.

Supergirl is the latest installment of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. The film is directed by Gillespie, best known for Lars and the Real Girl and I, Tonya. In an interview with DiscussingFilm, Gillespie said: “That road trip and the cantankerous hero that is resilient and reluctant, but grows through the journey because of this younger individual, which in our case is Ruthye.” Supergirl herself, Milly Alcock, however, did not point to any other media guiding her portrayal of the character. “She’s kinda just so who she is, and so one of a kind,” she told the media outlet.

In the novel True Grit by Charles Portis, and its film adaptations, the protagonist, Mattie Ross, seeks to avenge her father's death. She recruits Rooster Cogburn to help track down the outlaw Tom Chaney and enact revenge. Supergirl follows a similar path, with Ruthye recruiting a superhero, Kara, to help track down her father’s killer.

The book has been adapted a couple of times, most famously in 1968 and 2010. In the 1968 version, Rooster is played by one of the most recognizable Western actors, John Wayne. Joel Coen and Ethan Coen remade the film in 2010, primarily focusing on Mattie’s perspective rather than Rooster’s.

The film is an adaptation of the comic mini-series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The mini-series was initially pitched by Tom King as a team-up between Supergirl and Lobo, an anti-hero bounty hunter. In that version, they would have taken on roles similar to Mattie Ross and Rooster Cogburn from the novel True Grit. Lobo was omitted from the mini-series, but is being played byJason Momoa in Supergirl. Even though the premise shifted away from King’s original idea, the True Grit aspect of the story is still there, this time with Ruthye in Mattie’s place.

Supergirl centers on Kara Zor-El, a jaded and angry young woman hesitant to become a hero like her cousin, Superman, or Clark Kent, played by David Corenswet. Unlike Clark, who was a baby when their planet, Krypton, was destroyed, Kara is much older when she is sent across the universe with only her dog by her side. When she left, she fully intended to be the one to protect her much younger cousin, but by the time she arrived on Earth, he was already an adult, raised by a loving family.

Kara is far more affected by Krypton's destruction than Clark ever was. She loves to get drunk, and that's where fans meet her in Gunn’s 2025 film, Superman. Gunn and Gillespie have both described Kara as an antihero. In Supergirl, Kara is traveling through space celebrating her birthday when she meets Ruthye, a young girl played by Eve Ridley who wishes to avenge her father's death. From there, the pair journey together throughout the film.

Why Yards Become Uneven

A variety of factors can cause your lawn to become uneven: 

• Soil settling - The earth around new construction has often been tilled, graded, and dug up for utility lines. As that loose soil begins to compact, it can leave uneven areas. 
• Tree roots - As trees around your property grow, their roots can lift up parts of the lawn, creating uneven areas. 
• Burrowing animals - Animals that like to burrow through your lawn, including moles, voles, and ants, leave tunnels and raised areas that create raised ridges, soft depressions, and holes. 
• Poor drainage - If water doesn’t flow off your lawn uniformly, it can leave soggy areas that create depressions. 
• Foot traffic - Kids playing in the yard, pets running around, and the use of outdoor furniture can all compact soil, creating uneven areas.  
• Freeze-thaw cycles - If you live in colder climates, the freeze thaw cycle in the winter and spring can cause frost heave that pushes earth up and down unevenly.

Before You Start: Determine the Severity of the Problem

Once you’ve identified the uneven parts of your lawn, take some simple measurements to determine if this is an issue you can handle yourself or one that might require the expertise of a professional. 

Minor Lawn Imperfections (Less Than 1 Inch)

You can fix minor uneven patches by filling low areas with a top dressing consisting of soil, sand and compost. For bumps, top dress the surrounding area and blend the bump into the lawn. 

Moderate Unevenness (1–3 Inches)

You can level deeper depressions in your yard, but it may take some time. Fill in deeper areas in multiple stages over a period of weeks. For higher bumps, you’ll need to lift the turf, remove the soil to lower the area, then replace the turf. 

Severe Yard Leveling Issues (More Than 3 Inches)

If you have severe dips and ruts that are more than 3 inches deep or bumps that rise more than 3 inches high, you’ll likely need to regrade a larger part of the lawn to fix the problem. Correcting a more severe leveling issue requires machinery and expertise in grading, making it a job that’s best left to a professional landscape contractor.

Best Time of Year to Level a Yard

Regrading your lawn puts tremendous stress on your grass, which is why you should choose a time of year when the grass will recover. 

Cool-Season Grass

Spring and early fall are the best times to undertake a regrading effort. Temperatures are cooler during these months, making it easier for your grass to recover. If possible, time your regrading project for late summer when your lawn can recover during the cooler fall months. Avoid regrading in extreme temperatures. “If temps still reach over 90 degrees for cool-season lawns or if frost is in the forecast, avoid leveling as it will stress the grass,” Eichelberger says. 

Warm-Season Grass

Regrade warm-season grass in the late spring through early summer when it’s actively growing and will fill back in quickly. 

When to Avoid Lawn Leveling

If possible, avoid regrading your lawn during extreme weather:

• Drought - Hot dry weather stresses out grass, making it harder for it to recover after you’ve regraded. 
• Frozen ground - Frozen soil is hard to work when it's frozen, which makes it difficult to level. The soil won’t blend properly, making it difficult to mix topsoil and compost. It’s also easier to damage the grass since the blades and crowns are frozen. 
• Wet conditions - Don’t attempt to grade soggy, muddy or squishy soil. Working wet soil compacts it, making drainage worse. If you work in muddy soil, you’ll also end up creating new ruts with any heavy equipment you’re using to level the lawn.

Best Lawn Leveling Mix

The ideal mix of soil for leveling lawns is 60 percent screened topsoil with 30 percent sand and 10 percent compost. The topsoil provides structure, the sand makes the soil easier to spread and allows it to drain better. The small amount of compost improves overall soil health by providing essential nutrients. Eichelberger says it’s very important to use screened topsoil and sand to ensure it’s free of debris that will interfere with the leveling. 

The leveling mix can also vary depending on grass type. “Cool-season lawns traditionally would see more topsoil added to their lawn for leveling, while warm-season lawns often see mostly sand,” he says.

How to Level a Yard, Step by Step

Step 1: Mow the Lawn Short

Mow the grass short but don’t scalp it. Mowing the grass shorter helps you to see where the bumps, dips and uneven areas are. 

Step 2: Identify High and Low Areas

You have several options for determining where your lawn needs to be leveled:

• String and stakes: Push two stakes into the ground on opposite sides of an uneven area and run a string between. Use a line level to make sure the string is straight, then measure the distance between the string and the soil at various points to determine where the high and low areas are.
  
• Board and level: Measure the areas around these imperfections by laying a straight board across low or high areas. Use a tape measure to determine the gap between the board and the soil.
  
• Water drainage test: After a heavy rain, look for signs of drainage problems. This includes puddles that remain in the yard for more than 24 hours, muddy areas, soil erosion, or areas where water flows toward the house. 

Step 3: Prepare the Lawn

• Dethatch if needed. If there’s a heavy layer of thatch on the lawn, remove it. This will allow the new leveling mix to reach the existing soil.
  
• Aerate.Aerate any soil that’s become overly compacted, which will make it easier to break up and spread. 

Step 4: Fill Low Spots

Spread the leveling mix over low areas using a shovel, then follow up with a rake to work it through the grass blades and feather it into the surrounding lawn. Apply the leveling mix in a thin layer to avoid burying the grass, then water lightly to help it mix in. 

Step 5: Spread the Material Evenly

Use a leveling rake, which is a long flat rake with slats in it. Pull the rake back and forth across the uneven area so that the rake fills the low spots while feathering the soil into the surrounding lawn. Keep the layers about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep to avoid suffocating the grass. For deeper depressions, build up the area slowly with several applications. When filling in deep depressions, add a series of thin layers no more than 1/2 inch thick, allowing the grass to recover for two to four weeks between each application. “No more than 1/2 inch of topsoil should be added unless the homeowner is prepared to do a full lawn renovation/installation with new grass seed planted,” Eichelberger says. 

Step 6: Water the Area

Give the area a light watering after spreading the leveling mix to help the new soil settle into the old soil rather than on top of the grass blades. The goal here is to keep the soil moist. Too much water will cause the material to wash away and move grass seed. Water lightly once a day to keep the soil moist until the new seed germinates, then switch to a watering about every 2 to 3 days. 

Step 7: Monitor and Repeat

After completing the leveling, monitor the area for the next few weeks as the soil settles. If the ground isn’t completely even you may need to add an additional layer or even several layers of soil filler mix.

How to Fix Deep Low Spots in a Lawn

Fixing deeper depressions in your lawn requires a different process that involves removing and replacing the sod.

Step 1: Remove and Save Existing Sod

To fix low spots, you need to add soil beneath the sod. Remove the sod covering the low area using a flat spade, cutting around the perimeter of the area you need to remove. Drop the handle so that you can slide the blade under the roots of the grass then pry it upward to remove each section of sod and set it aside. 

Step 2: Add Fill Soil

Add fill soil to the depression, bring it to a level just below the soil surrounding the lawn to ensure that the sod sits evenly with the rest of the yard when you replace it. 

Step 3: Reinstall Sod and Water Thoroughly

Place the patch of sod over the repaired area, check the height, and make adjustments as needed. Water the area well to ensure the soil settles and the roots connect with the filler.

Identifying Drainage Problems

The best way to identify drainage problems is to walk your home after a long steady rainfall. Look for where water is collecting and flowing. Telltale signs of drainage issues include puddles that remain for more than a day, soggy, muddy areas in your lawn, washed out mulch and water that's flowing toward your driveway or walkways. 

Creating Proper Slope Away From Your House

If water is collecting around your home’s foundation, the earth needs to be leveled or graded to improve drainage. As a ruel of thumb, the soil should drop about 6 inches over the first 10 feet away from your home to create enough pitch to prevent water from moving back towards the foundation. 

The easiest way to achieve this is by adding filler soil around the foundation, then feathering it away from the house to create the ideal slope. When adding soil, don’t pile it against any vents, trim, or siding. 

When You Need Regrading Instead of Lawn Leveling

You need regrading when drainage becomes an issue as opposed to an aesthetic problem. Lawn leveling will help to smooth out bumps, depressions, and areas your mower is scalping, but it won’t change the slope of your yard. If you’re dealing with the above drainage issues, then you’ll need to regrade in order to fix them.

Using Too Much Sand

Using too much sand will cause your soil to dry out too quickly while making the soil loose and unstable, which can cause it to move in heavy rainfall. 

Adding Soil Too Deeply

Grass needs sunlight and air to grow and survive. If you add too thick a layer of soil, you’ll smother the existing grass. Only add 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch layer of soil at a time. 

Leveling at the Wrong Time of Year

The new Netflix episodes will drop just days after the wrestling giant Saturday Night's Main Event is set to air on July 18 at Madison Square Garden on July 18, nearly 20 years after it last took place at the iconic NYC venue. According to Netflix's press site,Tudum, Unreal season 3 will feature WWE legends old and new, including Cody Rhodes, Liv Morgan, CM Punk, AJ Lee, Trick Williams, Lash Legend, Stephanie Vaquer, Oba Femi, Bron Breakker, Chelsea Green, Matt Cardona, Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, as well as John Cena in the final days of his in-ring career.

"In WWE Unreal Season 3, John Cena says goodbye, a fan favorite returns, and the next generation of Superstars rise to the occasion," Netflix teased in its press release. "The series takes viewers inside the writers room as injuries, last-minute pivots, and career-defining decisions reshape WWE’s biggest season yet heading into WrestleMania 42."

Created by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque, aka Triple H, the new season, like its predecessors, will be comprised of 5 50-minute episodes, all set to premiere at once in July. Unreal's previous seasons were met with positive responses from both fans and critics, with Rotten Tomatoes scores sitting at 84% and 67%, respectively.

With its rare glimpse behind the curtain of the sports entertainment heavyweight, Unreal offers fans old and new an intimate, unseen look at their favorite stars. The series looks back at both the latter years of Hall of Famers and emerging talents in the professional wrestling organization.

The individual success and status as a full-time main event star certainly back up Rhodes' claim, though. Since returning to the WWE in 2022, Rhodes has won four world championships (three WWE and one Universal title). At WrestleMania 40, he snapped Reigns' 1,316-day run as the Universal Champion.

Cody Rhodes Defends His WWE Title at Night of Champions This Saturday

Rhodes will look to sustain his lengthy title reign when he defends the WWE Championship against Sami Zayn and Gunther in a triple threat match at Saturday's Night of Champions pay-per-view.

Night of Champions will take place inside the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At last year's event, Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring tournament.

Director Jared Moshe did just that with 2017's The Ballad of Lefty Brown. It certainly wasn't a hit out of the gate, but it eventually became known as one of the best Westerns of all time that hail from the modern era.

Rotten Tomatoes has named The Ballad of Lefty Brown the No. 90 greatest Western ever created despite it initially being a box office flop. They included it on their tally of the top 100 Westerns of all time.

"While slow to start, The Ballad of Lefty Brown gradually builds into a brooding, sincere, and classically rooted Western anchored by a commanding central performance from Bill Pullman," Rotten Tomatoes states in their feature. The film stars Pullman alongside Kathy Baker, Jim Caviezel and Tommy Flanagan, so it's a talented cast.

The film's synopsis revolves around a "merciless cowboy sets out on a dangerous journey across the frontier, determined to do whatever it takes to avenge his longtime partner's brutal murder," according to the publication.

So, how much of a flop was The Ballad of Lefty Brown? It had a very limited theatrical run and grossed around $7,856 domestically at the box office, according to research from The Numbers. The film's opening weekend grossed $5,559. So, it was a very tiny showing at the box office, but that didn't stop this film from getting greater recognition as the years went on.

After doing so poorly at the box office and getting pushed out of theaters early, it's nice to see The Ballad of Lefty Brown finally get recognized as one of the best Western films of all time. It just shows that not everything is about the box office showing.

'War Pigs' Had a Different Name at First

Butler revealed "War Pigs" was initially supposed to be the name of the album, but the label pushed for another track that turned into Paranoid. Ever the iconic song itself had a different title when it was first written.

“The song was written as ‘Walpurgis,’ which sounds a little like ‘War Pigs.’ But ‘Walpurgis’ is sort of like Christmas for Satanists. And to me, war was the big Satan,” Butler told Noise Creep in 2010. “It wasn’t about politics or government or anything. It was evil."

“So I was saying ‘generals gathered in the masses/just like witches at black masses’ to make an analogy,” Butler added. “But when we brought it to the record company, they thought ‘Walpurgis’ sounded too Satanic. And that’s when we turned it into ‘War Pigs.’ But we didn’t change the lyrics, because they were already finished.”

The song hit No. 4 on the UK Rock charts and No. 15 on the U.S. Billboard charts.

In its lyrics, the narrator admits to being lost on his journey, but feels rooted in his past, repeating: "I've got a name, I've got a name/And I carry it with me like my daddy did/But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid."

Despite the wilderness, Croce sings of his wish to continue his father's journey, learning to embrace the uncertainties of life and roll with the punches, making his personal mantra "Movin' me down the highway/Rollin' me down the highway/Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by."

In a tragic coincidence, Croce was attracted to "I Got a Name" due to his own father, who had died the previous year at the age of 57, according to the song's co-writer. In a 2023 interview with Classic Rock, Gimbel revealed that Croce mastered the future hit in only two takes, adding that “His father had a dream for him, but died before Jim’s first success.”

At the time of production, Croce intended to record the song for the soundtrack for the 1973 film, The Last American Hero. “Jim enjoyed the opportunity to sing for this particular movie,” Croce's widow, Ingrid, revealed.

“Most people thought he wrote the song. I hate to tell them he didn’t, but he made it his own. Putting down the guitar was like losing a prop. His guitar was like the bar for a bartender," she continued. "He enjoyed what was to be a brand new start – to use his vocals a different way. It’s one of the most powerful songs he does on the album.” 

Unfortunately, just a day before "I Got a Name" was set to be released as a single, Croce died in a plane crash on September 30, 1973, along with 5 others while traveling for his Life and Times tour. His own son, A.J. Croce, who would also grow up to become a musician, was eight days from his second birthday.

A Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, Croce's posthumous success with "I Got a Name" wasn't a one-off due to the shocking news of his death. In November of that year, a follow-up single, "Time in a Bottle," would top the charts, becoming his signature hit and making for a bittersweet reminder that the young artist would have continued to create folk music that resonates with listeners.

On April 14, Russini resigned from her position as an NFL insider at The Athletic, which is owned by The New York Times. Her exit came just one week after photos surfaced of Russini hanging out with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at an adults-only resort in Sedona, Arizona.

The images, taken on March 28, showed Russini and Vrabel (both married) hugging, holding hands and relaxing at a swimming pool.

Katherine Rosman and Ken Belson of The New York Times wrote an in-depth piece about Russini's NFL media career and the scandal that led to her abrupt departure from The Athletic.

The article contains a reference to a story Russini shared on the "Stugotz and Company" back in February. Russini claimed that a cop had pulled her over for texting and driving with her two sons in the vehicle.

Russini said that she was trying to break news of the Buffalo Bills' firing of head coach Sean McDermott. When the cop said he was a fan of another team (the team wasn't specified), Russini used her insider status to get out of the ticket, setting up a FaceTime call between the officer and the unnamed coach:

"Do you want to talk to the coach? You should talk to the coach," Russini recalled. "I FaceTime the head coach. Head coach is in his office. He said, ‘What’s up?’ I go, ‘I just got pulled over and I just wanted you to meet my friend, Officer Joe.’"

The cop agreed after the coach said, "You should let her go, she’s a good citizen."

According to Rosman and Belson, Times Company spokeswoman Danielle Rhoades Ha said it was "unacceptable conduct" on Russini's end. Ha had noted that company guidelines require employees to seek permission to speak on other podcasts.

Russini joined The Athletic in Aug. 2023 after an eight-year stint at ESPN. Before that, she worked at NBC Washington from 2013 to 2015.

More than 300 drones have been seized since the start of the tournament earlier this month, federal authorities said Wednesday. The seizures have occurred both "in the air and in the hands of operators near venues hosting matches," according to ABC7NY.

"The number is quite shocking actually," said retired Col. Bill Edwards, the current director of operations at ENSCO.

TSA issues a warning

On World Cup match days, aircraft operations, including drones, are banned "within a radius of 3 nautical miles and up to 3,000 feet above ground level" around stadiums, unless "specifically authorized by air traffic controllers."

The ban is enforced "within a 1-nautical-mile radius and up to 1,000 feet above ground level" at fan events.

In a statement provided to PEOPLE, TSA reminded the public that enforcement of drone regulations is "swift and proactive."

“The federal government, led by the White House Task Force, and in partnership with FBI, DHS/TSA, FAA, and state/local law enforcement have implemented the most comprehensive airspace security and drone mitigation effort in U.S. history for the FIFA World Cup 2026," a TSA spokesperson said.

FAA reminds fans of consequences, hefty fines

According to the official FAA website, all FIFA World Cup stadiums and surrounding areas have been designated "No Drone Zones."

"During major sporting events like the FIFA World Cup™, the FAA implements Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) to limit air travel and secure the airspace," the FAA said. "Taking off, landing, or flying a drone within these restricted areas is a serious violation of federal and local regulations."

Getting caught flying a drone inside a restricted area carries a number of potential ramifications, including civil penalties up to $75,000 per violation and criminal fines up to $100,000, confiscation of the device and possible arrest and criminal federal charges.

In an exclusive interview with Men's Journal, Donovan was asked about his favorite memories of playing in the World Cup. Without hesitation, Donovan referenced his game-winning goal against Algeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup to clinch Group C for the Americans.

"The best memory, for sure, on the field, was the Algeria goal that we got to be a part of, which was really special," Donovan said. "I was at training with the Galaxy. And two years after the Algeria game, someone showed up with the ball that I kicked in the stands right at the final whistle.

"So now, this person has a piece of memorabilia...they have this memento from the game that will last a lifetime. And I get to live the experience through people like that. Every time I do a meet-and-greet...somebody asks me about that game. And I always respond, 'Tell me where you were. How did you experience it?' I get to feel it through them every time it comes up. That moment has provided memories that last a lifetime."

Donovan was also over the moon to see the buzz around Los Angeles after the club opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Paraguay.

"I’ve lived in LA my whole life," Donovan said. "When there’s some big event – the Lakers are in the NBA Finals or the Dodgers have a Game 7, or the Rams – everybody who’s a star and celebrity shows up. And that’s how it was.

"Owen Wilson’s taking pictures, Katy Perry, everybody was there. You’re just like, ‘For soccer?’ It’s become such a cool cultural thing to be a part of, and I think the longer this goes on through the summer, it’s going to grow more and more."

Donovan was asked how the 2026 team compares to the 2002, 2006 and 2010 clubs he suited up for.

"So far, that was the most dominant game (the win over Paraguay) we've ever played in a World Cup," Donovan said. "That is a feather in the cap that they will always have. The momentum in the country and the team is really high.

"You can't expect that you're gonna win every game, but they feel it. They believe right now that they can do anything. That is a big part of sports, big part of soccer. Just believing you can do it. When you step on the field and you think, 'Yeah, we're gonna win today.' That's a big advantage."

Donovan shared his thoughts on the crossover between soccer, fashion, fandom and collectibles culture during the 2026 World Cup, comparing it to what he saw with the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Raiders (now the Las Vegas Raiders) as a young sports fan.

"It's become a place where fashion is shown....It's really cool that i get to, in my own preferable way, be a part of that, too," Donovan stated. "We have this opportunity on the 28th to do something that's really fun, engaging, interactive and authentic with fans...and also give them the opportunity to buy things, collect things that will mean something to them.

"The game has become more than just soccer in this country...That was always the case with (Michael) Jordan in the '90s. Those guys were cultural icons. The (Los Angeles) Raiders where I grew up, they did things differently, and the whole rap scene tied around to it. Soccer is becoming that, and we get to be part of it in small ways and big ways."

Donovan and retired English soccer star Jack Wilshere will be hosting a "Showdown: 7s v 10s," livestream on eBay Live this Saturday. Fans will get to debate the two iconic numbers in the sport: Donovan wore No. 10, and Wilshere wore No. 7 for England.

This time of the year is always quite patriotic, and even more so for the United States' 250th anniversary. As for which areas of the country are most patriotic, personal finance company WalletHub tried to determine that in their recent study.

Using a set of 13 key patriotic indicators, ranging from "a state’s military enlistees and veterans to the share of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita," WalletHub ranked all 50 states from most to least patriotic.

“The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnouts during elections, and a high share of the population volunteering with national or local organizations," said analyst Chip Lupo. "Patriotism also isn’t concentrated in any one particular area – the top states are located in vastly different geographic regions.”

The results may surprise you.

New York has the second-worst military engagement ranking (49th out of 50) and comes in only 45th in civic engagement. Arkansas, however, is dead last in civic engagement and only 28th militarily; "The Natural State" finished with an overall score of 28.23, just lower than New York's 28.96.

Bassplayerhas named the four-bar solo that opens the popular song, Sweet Child O’ Mine, as one of the best bass solos of all time. The bassist for this song was Michael ‘Duff’ McKagan. McKagan explained to Bassplayer his process when coming up with the line, “I’ve never tried to force any sort of bassline…I knew what I didn’t want to sound like – I didn’t want to have a big fuzz-tone bass where you couldn’t hear the notes. Izzy [Stradlin, guitar] had this real thin, sparse sound, and Slash had a big, Marshall-plus-Les Paul sound, and somewhere in there was a spot for me.”

The bassist continued, “I’ll hear the beginning of Sweet Child O’ Mine as a cello line for some reason. I don’t know why that is – I don’t play cello. It would be a neat thing to learn it, but I’m busy right now learning how to play bass!”

McKagan also revealed, “We all had to have our spot to make that band work, and I kinda knew where I wanted to go,” which shows how Guns N’ Roses became such an influential band in the first place.

Even though Guns N’ Roses has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is one of the best-selling musical acts of all time, the only song to hit No. 1 on the charts is Sweet Child O’ Mine. The song started practically out of nowhere while warming up. Slash started playing a cyclical melody, but the rest of the band loved it and added to it. Singer Axl Rose wrote the lyrics as a poem to his then-girlfriend, Erin Everly, but the song was not taken seriously by any of them. “It was like a joke,” McKagan explained. “We thought, what is this song? It's gonna be nothing.” But Sweet Child O’ Mine wasn’t nothing, and it propelled the band into becoming real rock stars.

Their debut album flopped, even though it is now critically acclaimed. Even with a small boost from MTV circulation, it wasn’t until Sweet Child O’ Mine that the band really took off. That first album, Appetite for Destruction, did not reach mainstream success until a year after Sweet Child O’ Mine, which put the band on the map. on the map. Although the song is Guns N’ Roses' only hit single, the band had multiple albums reach the top of the charts.

Guns N’ Roses' original members are some of the most recognizable names in rock. Saul Hudson, who goes by Slash, was on lead guitar with Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar, and of course, Rose on vocals. McKagan was the bassist, and Steven Adler was the drummer. McKagan has been hailed as one of the greatest bassists of all time by Rolling Stone. The other members are also considered leaders in their fields.

On April 7, photos surfaced of Russini and Vrabel (both married) at the adults-only Ambiente resort in Sedona, Arizona. "The tabloid drama stunned the Times Company. Ms. Russini was not just any reporter. The Athletic paid her an annual salary of close to $800,000, according to a former manager who had knowledge of her salary negotiation. This would have made her one of the highest-paid journalists at the Times Company.

"She had been promoted as a face of the sports publication, which the company bought in 2022 for $550 million as part of an effort to expand the Times’s reach to sports fans around the world. At the time the story broke, The Athletic was in discussions with Ms. Russini about renewing her contract, which was set to expire at the end of June."

Russini, 43, was the lead NFL insider at The Athletic and co-hosted the Scoop City podcast with James Palmer and Chase Daniel. The podcast hasn't released an episode since March 5.

Residents of five U.S. states have been put on alert, as extreme temperatures - in many cases breaking 100 degrees - will impact much of the Southeast, starting on Sunday, June 28, and running through early next week. While much of Europe is currently dealing with a record-breaking heat wave, part of the United States could be next, the National Weather Service warned on Wednesday, June 24.

"Areas of Major Heat Risk will expand into the Midwest Sunday through Tuesday with pockets of Extreme HeatRisk possible, particularly through the Mississippi Valley. This level of heat will affect anyone without adequate cooling or hydration," the National Weather Service warned in a tweet.

"Low temperatures only dropping into the upper 70s/lower 80s – with some locations even setting records – will provide very little overnight relief."

Five U.S. states have been placed under an "Extreme" level of heat risk for this Sunday, June 28.

Residents of five U.S. states have been put on alert, as their areas could be hit particularly hard by elevated temperatures. Residents without working air condition are especially at risk, the NWS warned:

• Florida
• Georgia
• South Carolina

The areas of "Extreme" heat risk will widen on Monday, June 29 and Tuesday, June 30, as the heat wave spreads from the Southeast to the Midwest and Great Lakes areas of the country.

U.S. issues heat wave tips for residents

With the heat wave approaching for this weekend, Ready.gov has issued some safety tips for residents bracing for extreme heat.

U.S. residents are being urged to follow the following safety tips:

• Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day.
• If air conditioning is not available in your home find a cooling center.
• Take cool showers or baths.
• Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Use your oven less to help reduce the temperature in your home.
• If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face. 
• Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
• Avoid high-energy activities or outdoor work during midday heat if possible.
• Check on family members, older adults and neighbors.
• Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Consider pet safety. If your pets are outside make sure they have plenty of cool water and access to comfortable shade. Asphalt and dark pavement can be very hot to your pet’s feet.
• Heat waves may cause you to lose power. Visit Power Outages to learn how to stay safe.

U.S. residents are also being urged to take precautions before the heat wave hits, such as:

• Do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling device. Fans create air flow and a false sense of comfort, but do not reduce body temperature or prevent heat-related illnesses. 
• Identify places in your community where you can go to get cool such as libraries and shopping malls or contact your local health department to find cooling options in your area.

The extreme heat is expected to hit parts of the United States beginning on Sunday and running through early next week.

Jim Thorpe: Lit by Lightning, a History Channel documentary that was initially released last year, will be making its way onto the platform next month. The historical documentary follows the life and career of Jim Thorpe (1887-1913), the double-Olympic gold medal-winning sports star who conquered football, baseball, basketball, and athletics.

Born in the late 19th century in the Sac and Fox Nation in what is now considered Oklahoma, Thorpe was given the Sauk name Wa-Tho-Huk, which translates to "Bright path the lightning makes as it goes across the sky," and he certainly lived up to that name. In addition to achieving success in the three major American sports fields, Thorpe became the first Native American to win gold at the Olympics for Team USA, taking home the top prize at the 1912 Stockholm games for both classic pentathlon and decathlon.

Thorpe was later stripped of his medals due to challenges to his amateur status, based on his baseball career as a then-free agent for the major leagues, the sports icon later had his awards reinstated as a sole winner (and no longer a co-winner) by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2022.

Despite this setback, attributed to his immense athletic talents, Thorpe's blaze of glory continued, going on to serve as the first Inaugural President of the American Professional Football Association (APFA) in 1920, which would be renamed to the National Football League (NFL) in 1922. Additionally, the star played for six seasons of Major League Baseball (MLB) and helped to co-found the Native American Basketball team, "Jim Thorpe and his World Famous Indians," in 1926, 23 years before the National Basketball Association (NBA) was founded.

Clocking in at under 90 minutes, this fast-paced documentary gives sports and history fans alike a glimpse at just some of the incredible feats the superhuman athlete achieved while helping to change the game for Indigenous people and sports as a whole.

Jim Thorpe: Lit by Lightning arrives on Netflix U.S. on July 13.

The content available at any given time on the streamer depends on various licensing agreements, with shows and films that aren’t Netflix originals usually jumping around to other platforms.

July is no exception, as Netflix will be dropping two TV shows from its massive collection—The Bernie Mac Show and Between—as well as a ton of films, including the entire Saw franchise, one of the Jumanji films, and 2018 Best Picture nominee Bohemian Rhapsody.

New July 2026 Netflix Additions

Of course, a ton of new content will also hit Netflix soon too. 

The streamer announced that the third Enola Holmes movie will debut on July 1, as well as the new original series, Worst Neighbor Ever. 

Classic favorites immediately available on the 1st also include A League of Their Own, Ali, Apollo 13, Born on the Fourth of July, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Talk to Me, and White Chicks. 

Throughout the entire month of July, Netflix will also get Season 4 of Dark Winds, Hamnet, their Little House on the Prairie reboot, a new Hot Ones series, all of the Hunger Games movies, a new season of The Quarterback, the first three Scream movies, and Wicked: For Good, to name a few.

All titles and dates are subject to change.

As for this summer, we have two that fit the superhero bill: Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day and DC's Supergirl. The latter is poised to release this week, and the embargo on reviews has finally lifted. So, what are critics saying about the second film in the new DCU?

Supergirl follows our titular hero, Kara Zor-El, as she "reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice." The film stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl, David Corenswet as Superman, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura Zor-El, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Craig Gillespie directed from a script by Ana Nogueira, which was adapted from the 2021 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

As of writing, Supergirl is rotten at 57% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer with 111 critic reviews. However, that might change as new reviews are added to the review aggregator. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporternotes that "DC's latest caped caper is stuck on autopilot," but praises Alcock for her "hard-edged performance" that makes her "an appealingly punky protagonist."

Owen Gleiberman of Varietyobserves in his headline that Supergirl is "so flat it's super-horrendous." Alison Willmore of Vulturelauds Alcock as "a very watchable lead, but this aggressively minor movie doesn't know what to do with her or her character. And where's the mystery in that?"

While the score isn't very promising, it's worth at least checking out Supergirl for yourself and forming your own opinion when it hits theaters on Friday, June 26.

Dating in 2026 can be difficult. There are the apps, like Hinge and Tinder, which can create the idea of limitless options, making genuine connection difficult. There's the classic "hope to meet someone out at a bar" move, though the success rate for that is quite low. Only 7 percent of Americans admit to having found their partner at a bar, according to the latest data. Most people typically meet their significant other through work or school, though with remote work and classes becoming more popular, that's becoming more difficult, too.

Enter: Dating coaches.

Anderson, who previously worked in the travel industry, launched her dating coaching business during the pandemic. And it's been blowing up. Anderson now has more than 600,000 followers on Instagram, where she offers up her dating advice.

Anderson's latest video shared to Instagram identifies the "biggest problem" that average men - the category that most of us would probably put ourselves in - when it comes to dating and meeting women.

Average men, Anderson says, try too hard to "impress" women. Meanwhile, the top 1 percent of men focus on emotion. Making women feel "calm" and "sexy" matters a lot more than "any credentials," Anderson argued.

Anderson adds that the top 1 percent of men focus more on "fit," rather than validation. Average men "hope" that women will choose them, while the top 1 percent of men understand that they are making a choice every time they interact with women, too.

Anderson made it clear that the most attractive men - and she's not just talking about looks - create opportunities, rather than waiting on an algorithm or friend to set them up in the right situation.

They put themselves in situations where they will meet the kind of woman that they are seeking, while average men, for the most part, do not.

"They also understand that attraction and compatibility is either there or it’s not. They don’t take anything personally and that understanding gives them peace and calm 🧘🏼‍♂️," one of Anderson's followers wrote, in agreement.

Given the prices to attend a World Cup game right now, it's safe to say that FIFA doesn't have any fans. But this collaboration may have turned things around for the soccer governing giant.

But experts interviewed by The New York Times say the science tells a different story. "Social media is using cortisol synonymously with the word 'stress,' and cortisol doesn't always mean stress," Lena Fan, MD, an endocrinologist and assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, told NYT. In fact, cortisol is essential for health and plays an important role during exercise.

During a challenging workout, your body releases cortisol to help meet the physical demands of exercise. The hormone helps increase blood flow, mobilize energy, and deliver fuel to working muscles.

"The more you exert yourself, the more cortisol is released," Anthony Hackney, PhD, professor emeritus of exercise physiology at the University of North Carolina, explained to NYT.

French’s Bakery announced the pending closure of its Orange outpost, located at 2064 N Tustin St in the Orange Villa Shopping Center, earlier this week. The establishment, which originally opened in 2005, will serve its final treats this Friday, June 26.

A heartfelt goodbye

The official French's Bakery Instagram account shared the news about its Orange store being shut down.

"Good morning, Orange County…We are sorry to post this..But unfortunately, we have to close the Orange location," the message read. "We appreciate all the love from our loyal customers...We are still keeping French’s in Costa Mesa open-Located on Baker.(Baker and Fairview )...We do hope and pray you will visit us down there. Again, thank you for all the years and memories we made in the Orange 🍊 location."

French's also shared footage of some equipment from the Orange location, which they are attempting to sell "by Saturday the 27th or before."

Only one French's left

French's debuted in 1965 with its original Costa Mesa location. Started by Frank French, the business was sold to the Gonzalez family in 1990.

French's opened up stores in Irvine (1992), Mission Viego (1996) and finally Orange (2005). The Mission Viejo and Irvine locations were shuttered in 2023 and 2024, respectively, leaving Orange and Costa Mesa behind.

Known for its variety of baked goods, including its famous Wagon Wheels, 12-inch Danishes that resemble pizzas, French's has developed a loyal customer base over the last several decades.

In order to get their French's fix, customers will have to travel to the only storefront left, in Costa Mesa, where it all started 61 years ago.
