I have decided to move all my tutorials to a new blog, but it will probably take a while before I get it done, because I bought a new camera. My old Canon Eos 350D is a good camera, but have it’s limitations and have also seen it’s best days. I haven’t had the camera for that long, only a little more than two years, but the model itself is already 4 years old. I got a good deal on the new Canon Eos 500D and could not resist. I got the camera yesterday and I’m still testing it, but I must say I love it. The image posted above is shot with the new camera and Canons EF 50mm/1.8 lens.

I’m working on my blog trying to figure out why the navigation doesn’t work as it should. At the same time I’m going to delete some of  my old posts and I’ve also closed commenting on all posts older than 2 months. I’m getting a lot of spam on those old posts and was hoping turning off commenting would help that out.

Update

I’ve edited my posts and I’ve also deleted a lot of old posts, so my blog is a lot thinner now. I do not want t delete any more posts, even though the problem with my previous and next post links is still there.

Sorrow’s had some reader problem, which are probably caused by me adding some google ads to some of the posts. I’ve also chosen to embed the flash presentations into my posts instead of linkin them in new windows. Don’t know if it’s a good idea, but I noticed some people had problems finding the linked presentations. I’ll embed them for a while and see what happens.

This tutorial was originally created in Finnish and therefore the picture names are in Finnish. The instructions are in English though.

Part 1

In this part you will learn how to

1. Remove a background with the Magic Eraser Tool
2. Select a part of an image with the Magnetic Lasso Tool
3. Copy an image to a new layer by pressing keys CTRL + J

Save kuva2.jpg and open it in Photoshop. Erase
the background with the Magic Eraser Tool.

Part 2

In this part you will learn how to

1. Select a background with the Magic Wand Tool
2. Invert a selection (Select -> Inverse or SHIFT + CTRL + I)
3. Copy an image from one file to another
4. Scale an image
5. Change the order of layers
6. Use the Overlay Blend Mode
7. Change the opacity and fill settings for a layer
8. Use the Graphic Pen filter
9. Create an adjustment layer
10. Pick a color from a part of the image
11. Add a Drop shadow

Save kuva1.jpg and open it in Photoshop.
Select the background with the Magic Wand Tool.

It’s my birthday today, one more year passed and I’m getting closer to my half century anniversary. Well, if I get to live as long as my grandmother and great grandmother I’ve only lived half of my life, so there’s still a lot to experience.

Inkscape does not have a brush tool, at least not yet. I don’t know if there is going to be a brush tool in the future, but there are already a couple of tools you can use instead.

I downloaded Inkscape 0.47pre01 today and tested out a couple of tools you can use instead of the brushes tool.

Both the Pencil and the Path tools have some new features added to them. This tutorial will demonstrate how to use the new features of the Pencil Tool.
