A very quick late night post to sign off with tonight. I've been processing solidly for hours and need to hit the hay so I'll leave you with another Inside Edinburgh interior shoot. The guys who owned this beautiful Georgian property knew a thing or two about what they liked and their "antique" style was very much their own and I loved it. From retro bikes and cameras to snow shoes from Scott's era you don't truely learn this stuff it's already in you.

A rare moment

So yesterday was a rare moment indeed where I was able to pick up the camera and shoot a few shots just for me rather than a paying client. Don't get me wrong I love my clients and I love that they pay me for doing something I love and I still pinch myself every day for that. It's just that I have been so busy for what seems like forever that I can't remember the last time I shot for myself.

A few weeks ago I did have that chance but I had been so worn out with work that I decided to put down the camera, walk away and switch off. It was nice but only for a short while as all these ideas started going off in my head and I was itching to get back to it. I won't be doing that again.

What was nice about yesterday was that there was no need for a thread or specific treatment for the shots I just fired and processed at will. I discovered that it was a nice way to unwind and relax and much better than leaving the camera behind.

Processing again this evening so thought I'd check out the Boss' new album. Born in the USA was the first album I ever bought and I've had a bit of a love hate relationship with his work over the years since. He's at his best on this album. Everyone should listen to Wrecking Ball at least once. So far Death to my Hometown is the stand out for me. Go listen!

Update: Listen to all except track 9 "Rocky Ground". Skip, delete, ignore, don't download etc. It's awful.

Today was the first day of Spring and to celebrate I thought I'd post a typically Spring like shot. For a long time Autumn has been my favourite season but I have to say Spring just gets better every year. Is that an age thing? It was a beautiful day here in Edinburgh. How was it for you?

I do quite a bit of interior photography in Scotland and much of it is in Edinburgh so I thought I'd start a little post thing I'm calling "Inside Edinburgh" and let you have a look at Edinburgh's inner beauity. Edinburgh is such a beautiful city and it's been photographed countless times but it also has an inner persona that people rarely see and it's just behind the doors of almost every building that you pass.

I never thought that Interiors would become one of my specialisms as I always saw myself as a photographer of people more than anything but my photographic journey has taken me along a number of paths and I'm loving the surprises!

So, this is the first Inside Edinburgh post and I hope it gives you some food for photographic inspiration or Interior Design if nothing else.

North Berwick Pano

I was on a shoot in North Berwick last week and the weather was fantastic! I was out there on clients time but I couldn't help grabbing shots between shoots just for myself. It seemed like everywhere I looked there was another great shot demanding to be taken. Love it when that happens. The shot above was taken in a hasty blur. In the car. Slammed on the breaks. Keys in ignition, engine running. Sprint to the beach front. Boom! Boom! Boom! (+ 2 more) :) Sprint back. Cars queuing. Horns blaring. Slid across the bonnet, into first and gunned the engine. Flipped the bird and away!!!! It went something like that anyway.

More processing for me this evening so thought I'd listen to the new Ting Tings album. Not bad and so far this is the stand out track for me. Shades of LCD Soundsystem in there I'm sure or just my wishful thinking? Their current single is much better than their last offering "Hands". Although their debut is still out in front Sounds from Nowheresville is sounding more grown up and grounded. Like the artwork and would kill to get a hat like Katie's.

I was out in North Berwick on Friday for a shoot and Mother Nature gave us a fantastic day for it. Boom! Just because I'd like to I thought I'd post up a pic I took from my camera phone to celebrate the day. The only downside is a weekend of processing, ah well....;) Hope Mother Nature's being good to you wherever you are.

Some late night processing for me and to take me through I’ve got Clint Mansell’s epic Moon soundtrack to keep me company. This track in particular defined the film for me. Would have been a different movie experience without it.

School was out so grabbed some R & R in the Royal Borough of Lauder with the family. I always take cameras everywhere I go but decided to rely on my camera phone only this time, in an attempt to have an (almost) complete break. Bags of fun but can’t wait to upgrade my phone to something with a half decent camera though.
