On Saturday, Aug. 8, after three years of planning and preparation, Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento staff moved 161 patients from Sutter Memorial Hospital to the new Anderson Lucchetti Women’s and Children’s Center and remodeled Ose Adams Medical Pavilion (previously called Sutter General Hospital), in just under 18 hours.

In addition to new surroundings, staff also put their training to use as the medical center went live on Sutter EHR.

The support shown by the entire medical center was tremendous. The patient move teams performed spectacularly, the physician support for both the move and EHR go-live was beyond measure, and the EHR super users and hundreds of EHR staff provided needed support throughout the day.

Not only did the physical move go incredibly well, but all of Sacramento took notice. Earlier in the week, SMCS CEO Carrie Own Plietz accepted a proclamation from the Sacramento City Council. Local television stations and newspapers reported on the move, starting several days in advance, developing more than 60 news stories describing the move activities.

SMCS Move Facts:
• A total of 161 patients were moved from Sutter Memorial to SMCS.
• Patients moved – from hospital room to hospital room – at an average pace of 23 minutes, with the shortest time of 16 minutes.
• The teams moved a patient an average of every 7 minutes.
• The first labor patient brought over from Sutter Memorial also delivered the first baby – a boy – at 3:22 a.m., marking a historic moment for SMCS.
• The last baby born at Sutter Memorial Hospital arrived at 1:46 a.m., and the final notes of Braham’s Lullaby sounded through the halls to mark a final historic moment for Sutter Memorial. (See story on the SMCS Newsroom here.)
• Drs. Ingram and Longoria completed the last two cardiovascular cases at SMH on Thursday, Aug. 6.
• Dr. Wertz, who opened the NICU in August 1974, escorted the last infant out August 2015.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make the move not only possible, but a huge success. We look forward to settling into our new home and creating a new family in Midtown.

Depending on the work to be completed, there will be traffic controls in place that include partial to full lane closures, as well as street closures. The overlaying and paving will occur the second week in the evenings and overnight (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) due to the possibility of street closures. There is noise from grinding and trucks, as well as smells from paving and sealing associated with this work.

Here is the day-to-day schedule of street activities:

7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, May 2: Grinding throughout all streets. This will include street closures and detours for portions of the day. This will be noisy work, with the grinding of streets and the beeping of trucks backing up.

6 p.m. Monday, May 4, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 5: Laying out, digging out and base repairs on many streets. This will include traffic controls and lane closures. There will be some noisy work and includes trucks backing up.

6 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 6: Base repairs. This will include traffic controls and lane closures, along with some noisy repair work and trucks backing up.

6 p.m.-6 a.m. nightly from Wednesday, May 6, to the morning of Saturday, May 9: Level, overlay and pave. This will include traffic controls and lane closures, along with some noise from trucks as well as smell from the paving.

7 a.m.-4 p.m. daily from Monday, May 11, through Tuesday, May 19: Raising the manhole covers throughout the streets. This will include traffic controls and lane closures, along with noise from trucks.

7 a.m.-4 p.m. both Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15: Slurry seal. This will include traffic controls and lane closures, along with noise from trucks and smells.

7 a.m.-4 p.m. both Wednesday, May 20, and Thursday, May 21: Striping of all streets. This will include traffic controls and lane closures.

We understand this is disruptive, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we complete these street improvements. Please contact Pam Brink at BrinkP@sutterhealth.org you have any questions or need additional information. Check out the map for more details of the work to be completed.
