Happy Hour: Berry Sangria

I'm really into Sangria right now, and found this one for the fourth of july via EdiTORIal. I used Chambord instead of creme de cassis, and it was yummy!

Rosé Berry Sangria

Ingredients

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup crème de cassis
1 1/2 cups mixed berries such as raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries
1 (750-ml) bottle chilled rose wine
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 bottle club soda
Mint leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

Mix all ingredients (except mint leaves and club soda) and let soak in the fridge for a couple of hours
Right before you serve, add 1/2 cup club soda
Pour over ice, garnish with a mint leaf, and enjoy!

Shoot, its been so long since I posted, I almost forgot how! I had a tough June, but I'm so ready to move on and jump back into it all! Lets start with this fun baby shower I planned with one of my favorite color schemes yellow and gray. The beehive theme was so fun! Blackberry Margaritas

If I post enough summer cocktails, will the sun come out? I'm just itching for some warm weather!! First one up, Blackberry Margaritas!

Blackberry Margaritas

YIELD: 8 servings (serving size: about 1/2 cup)
HANDS-ON: 30 MINUTES
TOTAL: 30 MINUTES

Ingredients

1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 lime
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup 100% agave blanco tequila
3/4 cup Grand Marnier
2/3 cup fresh lime juice
12 ounces fresh blackberries

Preparation

Combine 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar and kosher salt in a dish. Cut lime into 9 wedges; rub rims of 8 glasses with 1 lime wedge. Dip rims of glasses in salt mixture. Combine water and 1/2 cup sugar in a microwave-safe glass measuring cup. Microwave at HIGH 2 1/2 minutes, stirring to dissolve sugar; cool. Combine syrup, tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, and blackberries in a blender; process until smooth. Strain mixture through a cheesecloth-lined sieve over a pitcher; discard solids. Serve over ice. Garnish with remaining lime wedges.

This Rainbow Party comes from the Super Fabulous Natalie of Maine for her daughter, Violet's 4th Birthday Party. A rainbow detail is not forgotten on this party. My favorite details are the paper chains, especially the super cute itty bitty paper chain on the cake stand, the cotton candy cloud filled with rainbow cake pops, and the yarn handles on each of the take home gable boxes.

Brain Dead in the Burbs

I have to admit, I love to browse and buy books and magazines, but actually finding the time to sit down and read is another story. I seem to be more of a vacation reader, nowadays. Nothing better than sitting in a lounge chair, drink on the table and book in hand. So when I saw this book, the title caught my eye right away, "Brain Dead in the Burbs, and Cooking Your Way Back to Sanity" by Laura Edwards-Ray. By the way, I'm a terrible cook, so anything that includes humor and could improve my cooking is a plus! So that night, I went downstairs to start dinner, and thought I would just crack open the book and browse the recipe pics real quick. Well, 45 minutes later, with 2 screaming hungry children, I'm still standing at the counter reading the book. It was hilarious and addicting!

Here's a little info on the author and book:
"Laura Edwards-Ray, St. Louis wife and mother of two, makes us her best friend by the second chapter by entertaining readers with anecdotes from her colorful life. She shares hilarious stories about her first husband (who she married twice) job, girlfriends, dating, and spoils readers with recipes that will make you a hit at any party."

So many great recipes for entertaining. The kind of dishes that everyone "hopes you bring to the next party!" Like "NBF Kimme's Cream Cheese Ball". Yum!

Island Girl Cocktail
Stir together 8 ounces (1 cup) cranberry juice cocktail, 8 ounces (1 cup) vodka, 4 ounces (½ cup) ginger ale, and 2 ounces (¼ cup) fresh lime juice in a large pitcher. Pour into ice-filled glasses, and garnish with lime wedges. Makes 4 servings.
