People Cross Your Path For a Reason – Ottawa Portrait Photography

I met this beautiful soul, Aileen, when I was in hospital in 2009 for my thyroid cancer surgery. She was my hospital roommate for 11 days. In addition to my own family, she was my lifeline, keeping my spirits up by sharing amazing stories about her life and telling the dirtiest jokes I’d ever heard, lol. I believe that people do not cross paths by accident — ironically we even shared the same birthday. After leaving the hospital, we kept in touch, and she became like an adopted grandmother to me. We would visit her and bring muffins and her favourite Tim Horton’s coffee and she would play the piano and organ for us, never needing a sheet of music in front of her. She moved to a retirement home last Fall in Alliston and before leaving, she asked me to take one last portrait of her. She wanted to make sure she had a fabulous portrait that they could use for her funeral someday. She showed up in her fanciest designer outfit and still looked beautiful at the age of 90. I received a card today from her daughter to inform me that she passed away peacefully in May. She will be dearly missed and i will think of her on every birthday I am blessed to have.

The cost for each promotion is $120 per child (additional siblings receive a 50% discount). Session fee includes a 15-20 minute studio portrait session, use of costumes/props and a complimentary 5″x7″ print. When siblings are booked in the same session, each child will have individual poses as well as poses with their sibling(s).

NOTE: The 50% discount also applies if one sibling is booked with the Fairy Days promotion and the other in the Gone Fishin’ promotion.

Live Your Life and GET IN the Photo (Ottawa Newborn Baby Family Photography)

As a photographer AND a Mom, I must admit that I don’t appear in many family photos. Someone’s gotta take the photo, right? On our last family vacation to Europe, I posted many photos on my page for my Dad to see along our trip, but all he ended up doing was asking me if I had been ill on the trip because I wasn’t in any of them. So I asked my Dad: Who do you think took the photos? Ok, note to self, buy one of those lamo selfie sticks next time.

But then I think about when I do newborn sessions in my studio and have Moms who don’t want to be photographed because they don’t think they don’t look good. LADIES, pleeeeeeease give yourselves a break. You JUST gave birth and bringing a child into the world is a frickn’ miracle. Your child(ren) don’t care if you have dark circles or having lost the baby weight (especially after one week, c’mon get real). EXIST in photos and live your life in the moment. Join the movement: GET IN THE PHOTO! Your family will thank you for it and you’ll be glad you did too. Watch this video for a giggle and a good reminder.

Smiles or Toots – Ottawa Newborn Portrait Photography

What is more heart warming than a baby’s smile? It’s the picture of happiness, even though many doctors say a newborn’s smile is more likely the result of gas than an emotional reaction. Nevertheless, little Marco gave so many smiles during his newborn session here at the Sweet Pea Photography studio that it just melted my heart. Oh, and don’t get me started on his incredible hair!
