My journey of being a mother to my amazing daughter, Kaiya, living with severe special needs, has led me to a tangible knowledge of powerful Biblical truths and God’s character. Emily Hess

Emily is a wife, busy mom, and founder of Beacon Coffee Stand. A few years ago, her heart was saddened and overwhelmed as she learned about human trafficking and the struggle survivors go through to transition from their hurtful past to a hopeful future. She discovered that counseling is essential and opportunities to learn life and job skills are key for long term success.

It was very clear how crucial it was to have services available. More than anything, Emily wanted to find a way to support this growing need in her city and state.

“I knew God was pressing me to not just sit and have pity, but to move forward towards a solution. As I have met with organizations through-out our city and state it has been brought to my attention how great the need is to have mentors, leadership training and career development opportunities made available… but how?”

After coming home from a vacation on the west coast, and seeing pop-up coffee stands everywhere, the solution finally became clear. Emily decided to create a drive-thru coffee stand with a social mission that would focus on three goals:

-To give hope and a pathway to freedom to human trafficking survivors by partnering with local anti-trafficking organizations,
-To provide a platform for community involvement,
-And be known for exceptional coffee and over-the-top service.

Since opening in October of 2018, she has moved to a storefront location in Northwest Edmond in the Deer Creek Community.

“We were able to host our first fundraiser in our new location in January 2020 and our first awareness event this summer. Its been an exciting 2 years and I can’t wait to see whats in store for 2021!”

Maurice L. Landrum

Maurice L. Landrum began his law enforcement career in May 1983, where he served as Police Officer, Detective, and Sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Maurice distinguished himself during his law enforcement career in October 2004; when he retired honorably from LAPD after being hired by the San Bernardino County District Attorney Office-Bureau of Investigation, where he served as the First African American Supervising District Attorney Investigator in the Bureau’s history.

On December 24, 2016, Maurice honorably retired after a total of 34 years in law enforcement. During his law enforcement career, Maurice worked a variety of patrol, detective, supervisory and administrative assignments.

Maurice attended Southern Illinois University-at Carbondale and graduated from the University of Phoenix: Criminal Justice & Security Degree Program. He’s an accomplished author, who recently published his memoirs about his experience as a Los Angeles Police Officer during the early eighties. Gangsters, Narcotics, Homicide: “Protecting the Thin Blue Line” brings his true story to life.

Tessa Fontaine
Tessa is sole proprietor of Organize My Shtuff organizing service, and is passionate about helping people achieve efficiency and beauty in their life through good organizing and design principles. As a natural-born organizer, Tessa remembers re-arranging the meat packages in the grocery store as a kid shopping with her mother. After studying early childhood development in college and working for the Unified School District, Tessa admits the most satisfying part of her job was designing her classroom every year. She was successful in making her room developmentally appropriate with home-like and whimsical touches that both the kids, staff, and parents enjoyed. Tessa has spoken to groups of moms about toy rotation, realtors about un-decorating homes for sale, and to Pottery Barn customers for Coffee Talks presentations about organizing with style.

After organizing spaces from warehouses to drawers, closets to garages, and offices to playrooms, Tessa is looking forward to specializing in organizing children’s spaces under the new name, Cargo Bambino Organizing. Tessa hopes to make her dream come true and positively affect the future of a child.

Tom Mossman
A life-long athlete, Tom has poured his passion for sport into coaching. Believing that the best way to live a long and healthy life is through regular exercise – he has helped to transform many dreams of competing into reality. His approach includes committing to working alongside his athletes every step of the way to ensure that they reach the finish line and experience the life-changing effects of pushing themselves to achieve their goals.

He knows from experience that nothing can describe that feeling of coming across the line with a great big smile and knowing that you have done something special. He wants to help each athlete know that amazing feeling – no matter what race they are doing.

As a coach, he has trained hundreds of athletes through programs like Team in Training as well as others and worked with other athletes on a one-on-one basis.

Although Tom has always been athletic, his endurance sports training started in 2002 with the Maui Marathon as a way to celebrate being cancer free for 10 years. After that first marathon, he was hooked on both the event participation and coaching others to fulfill their dreams. It has been a journey – with ups & downs – which he uses as valuable insight to help his athletes get over their own stumbling blocks and plateaus.

Maurice Morning “Maury” Wills is a former professional baseball player and manager. Maury played in Major Leagues primarily for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1959 through 1966 and the latter part of 1969 through 1972 as a shortstop and switch-hitter; he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1967 and 1968, and the Montreal Expos the first part of 1969. Wills was an essential component of the Dodgers’ championship teams in the mid-1960s, and is credited for reviving the stolen base as part of baseball strategy.

The memory of Maury Wills achieving his 104th stolen base for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1962 evokes images of an athlete extraordinaire. This outstanding achievement is only one in a long list of accomplishments that give insight into a man who is both an important athlete and a true sports personality.

Andrew Peterson

Andrew is best known for his Nathan McBride series and we are excited to have him return on the release of his newest book RIGHT TO KILL, book 6 of the Nathan McBride series. After our interview with Andrew Peterson, we’ll be catching up with USC legend Anthony Davis and getting his thoughts on a variety of subjects. Andrew Peterson
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Andrew attended La Jolla High School before enrolling at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture.

Andrew began writing fiction in 1990. He sold a short story, Mr. Haggarty’s Stop, to San Diego Writers Monthly in October, 1992. He continued to write, exploring both the novel form and screenplays. After attending his first writer’s conference in 2005, he became serious about writing the Nathan McBride stories.

FIRST TO KILL was Andrew’s debut thriller which features Nathan McBride, the “brutally effective” trained Marine Corps scout sniper and CIA operations officer. It launched as a mass-market paperback from Leisure Fiction in 2008. Costco Wholesale made a regional purchase of FIRST TO KILL and carried it in 97 warehouses in five western states, CA, AZ, CO, UT, and NV. Over a three-week period, Andrew visited 91 Costco locations where he signed stock and spoke with members.

While on his book signing tour, Andrew took time to visit VA hospitals and sit with our nation’s veterans. He gave away hundreds of books. In Phoenix, he had the honor of meeting a Pearl Harbor Survivor and one of the last remaining Navajo code talkers. To date, Andrew has donated over 2,000 books to our troops serving overseas and to our wounded warriors recovering in Naval and Army hospitals all over the world.

Shortly after FIRST TO KILL was sold, Audible.com purchased the audio rights, and FTK became an instant bestseller, reaching #7 on Audible.com’s website.

In 2010, FIRST TO KILL reached another milestone. The film rights were sold to two Hollywood producers with their offices at the Paramount Lot in Los Angeles.

Andrew’s second Nathan McBride novel, FORCED TO KILL, launched as an exclusive audiobook in May, 2010, from Audible.com and it climbed a notch higher, reaching #6 on Audible’s bestseller list.

In August of 2012, Thomas & Mercer, Amazon’s Publishing’s mystery/thriller imprint, purchased the rights to three Nathan McBride books. OPTION TO KILL, the third in the series, launched as an exclusive Kindle eBook and was included in Amazon’s new Kindle Serials project.

Ron Yary
Ron Yary was the first overall pick of the 1968 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, becoming the first offensive lineman ever to be selected first overall. He played from 1968 to 1981 with the Minnesota Vikings, and 1982 with the Los Angeles Rams. During his tenure with the Vikings, the team won 11 division titles. During that period, Minnesota won the 1969 NFL championship and NFC titles in 1973, 1974 and 1976, and played in Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX and XI where Yary was one of 11 Players to have played in all four games for the Vikings. Yary was named All-Pro 6 consecutive seasons (1971–76) and 2nd Team All-Pro in 1970 and 1977 and was an All-NFC choice from 1970 through 1977. He played in seven consecutive Pro Bowls, and was a major force in a Minnesota team that was highly successful throughout the 1970s. In addition to his All-pro honors, Yary was voted the NFC Offensive Lineman of the Year three times (1973–75) by the NFLPA. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.

Jack Struble
Jack Struble was born in Iowa, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the Los Angeles Police Department in 2003, where he had assignments in gangs and homicide, and served for over fifteen years in major narcotics. During this time, he also worked with federal agencies operating on counter-terrorism and cartel-related activities on the West Coast. After retiring, Jack started his own investigative and risk-assessment firm, and now enjoys reading, writing, and travelling with his wife Kathy, son Justin, and dogs Max and Brodie. This is his first novel.

David Martinez
Music started at a young age for David, who was influenced by his father, a multi-instrumentalist. Early influences were Grand Funk Railroad, Kiss, Steve Miller Band, and Led Zeppelin, which led David into trying his hand at songwriting on his first guitar. During his early college years, David recorded his first demos in a studio put together by friend Robert Davis. With encouragement from friends Eduardo Garza and David Navertte, he ventured into the local music scene sharing his songs at area open mic nights while continuing his education.

David will be performing at Texas Indie Fest in Austin during the week of SXSW.

Robert Fitzsimmons
In 1997, Bob was employed to represent Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame Center Mike Webster in his disability claim against the National Football League (NFL). “Iron Mike” was ultimately awarded total and permanent disability as a result of football-related concussions. Mike Webster’s lawsuit against the NFL seeking retroactive benefits was reported as the only lawsuit lost by the NFL on a disability claim and resulted in an award of additional benefits to Mike Webster.

Bob Fitzsimmons, together with Dr. Julian Bailes and Dr. Bennet Omalu founded the Brain Injury Research Institute.

In the new soon to be released movie Concussion Will Smith portrays Dr. Bennet Omalu.

Concussion – Movie
While conducting an autopsy on former NFL football player Mike Webster (David Morse), forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith) discovers neurological deterioration that is similar to Alzheimer’s disease. Omalu names the disorder chronic traumatic encephalopathy and publishes his findings in a medical journal. As other athletes face the same diagnosis, the crusading doctor embarks on a mission to raise public awareness about the dangers of football-related head trauma.
