Be sure to tune in this weekend to see fellow gamers getting their chance to check out chapter one of the expansion.
Okay, now this livestream is the main course that many have been waiting to see. The livestream is scheduled for September 30th, 2015 at 5 – 7pm EDT / 2 – 4 pm PDT. It will be going over various changes coming in the newest expansion like, user-interface updates and crafting changes. Players have been eager to get news about the crafting or crew skill changes. If you have been waiting to find out more of the details on upcoming changes in the expansion, this looks like the livestream for you. Be sure to read the date and times below or check out the SWTOR website post for more details.

SWTOR post Inquisitor and Jedi Consular story blogs

BioWare has posted the last two of its class story blogs. The Inquisitor and Jedi Consular were the third and fourth in the series. The story blogs highlight the three chapter arcs used in the two class stories. Each blog gives a brief overview, but be warned that both blogs contain potential spoilers.

Personally, I would recommend those who have not played through the stories wait before reading the two posts. Like the previous story blogs, these are designed for the new players that will jump right into the new expansion utilizing the instant zero to level 60 option. Be sure to bookmark the links for the Inquisitor and Jedi Consular to glance over after completing the class stories ingame.

One feature I pretty consistently see requested is the ability to copy your keybindings from one character to another, so I’m happy to say with the release of 4.0 you’ll be able to do just that.
When 4.0 launches you’ll notice a new tab in the preference window labeled “Keybinding Import/Export” from there you’ll be able to save out your current keybindings to a file which you can then load on another character. When you save the keybinding they’ll show up in a list which you can then select to preview and load those saved bindings. The list of keybindings you can import is shared across all your characters and saved locally on your computer. The keybindings are saved out to an XML format much like the UI Profiles are, so you’ll be able to share them with friends and such.

The idea of being able to save and copy your keybindings has been a suggestion and rumor for a long time. Finally, the rumor appears to be reality when the new expansion goes live. This could be a huge Quality of Life improvement for SWTOR. Not only will players be able to save and copy keybindings for all your characters, but you can also save your keybindings and share them with your friends. This will personally save me quite a bit of time when creating a new toon or even switching between specs. You can save a certain spec or even class specific keybindings and when you switch you would just pull up your new keybindings. Thanks BioWare for adding this QoL to the expansion. Tell us what you think of this new option coming in 4.0 in the comment section below.

Hey folks,
I wanted to let you know about what changes are coming to Commendations in Fallen Empire, this way you can plan accordingly. Simply put, only the names of some existing Commendations are changing. There are no conversion rates or anything this time around.

Basic Commendations will now be called Common Data Crystals

Elite Commendations will now be called Glowing Data Crystals

Ultimate Commendations will now be called Radiant Data Crystals

All other Commendation names remain the same.

Again, there are no conversion rates pre/post Fallen Empire. Thanks!
-eric

It appears like the names of the current commendations will be changing. This is standard for things to change with commendation system whenever an expansion is released or level cap is changed. However, BioWare is NOT going to be converting comms. This is surely a welcome bit of news. Time to get collecting those commendations before the expansion goes live.

This week we have another great fan created video. The video is more of a trailer rather than a music video. From this short trailer, the series appears to be a comedy set in the SWTOR universe. There are not many details, but it looks funny. I love the camera work and audio production in the trailer. It looks like this six part series will be something to keep an eye out for. Coming this December, look for HERF Squad.
As we near the one month till expansion mark, news is starting to be released from BioWare, slowly, but surely. They added another set of story blogs to the website. We are getting information on class changes and hopefully, there will be more details on other game systems rumored to be changing in the expansion. BioWare also posted a short trailer about some of the people and thinking that went into the creation of the story for Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion.

There was a new video highlight on the official SWTOR website. It was a behind the scenes look at the writing and story for the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion. The video is narrated by Charles Boyd. The neat thing was finding out how important Creative Director Jesse Sky was involved in the upcoming expansion. Charles mentions how the story will be brought to players in a series style and will come out fairly frequently. He also stated how this type of story editions will last longer than any other previous update. The new story content will “leave your jaw on the floor.” What was your impression about the video and the story content? Let us know in the comment section below.

SWTOR posts Trooper and Bounty Hunter story blogs

As we keep moving closer to the release of the new expansion, BioWare is posting a few more things to the website in an effort to update it for the new and veteran players. One area they have been updating is sharing an overview of each class story in the game. This week BioWare added the Trooper and Bounty Hunter stories to the website.

These story blogs do contain some spoilers. I would suggest avoiding them if you have not played through the class stories. The story blogs are a good reference for new players thinking of jumping right into the new expansion with the instant level 60 character perk. Head over to the website if you want to catch up on the Trooper or Bounty Hunter class stories. Stay tuned for the Trooper/Bounty Hunter class changes post.

EricMusco Nico Okarr | 09.17.2015, 09:32 AM

Hey folks,
As I mentioned in my previous post, the plan for getting Nico in Fallen Empire was that you would recruit him into your Alliance as you were playing through the storyline. However, knowing the concerns about how you access Nico, we are also going to send you a token in the mail which will allow you to have Nico right away. If you want to get Nico as a part of playing through Fallen Empire, you can still do that. Just delete the token from your mail and you will get him naturally. On the flip side, if you claim the token we will still let you do his recruitment mission later on, you will just already have him.
This way the decision is in your hands on whether you want to get him as a part of the recruitment, or if you just want him right away. And it is worth repeating, that Nico is only accessible to those subscribers who qualified for him.
Hopefully that clears up any confusion (which I created).
-eric

The SWTOR community has a response from BioWare concerning the Nico Okarr companion reward questions. The question as to when the Subscriber reward companion can be unlocked has been answered. In the above dev post, Eric states that Nico Okarr will be available right away in the expansion. There will be a token sent to those qualified subscribers via in-game mail. If those same players choose to get Nico via the story they can simply delete the token. This is a great move by BioWare. For one, it shows they are listening to the community and worked to make it a good solution for all parties. Secondly, it puts the choice in the player’s hand as it should be and like their motto says, choice matters.

These are good questions! We are working on a blog which will talk about what streamlined leveling means for Fallen Empire. My hope is to get it out sometime next week and we can talk through any unanswered questions then. Thanks everyone.
-eric

Streamlined leveling? It appears that we will finally get a few more details coming soon over the next few weeks. There have been many speculations on what this will be exactly. I have wondered if BioWare might be working on a way of making the 12x XP a Legacy perk or something along those lines. Whatever streamlined leveling turns out to be we will be finding out relatively soon, stay tune!

This day has a lot of sadness and memories of loss. I hope everyone will take a moment to remember those family members and loved ones lost. In the scheme of things this is a small article about a video game. However, as we continue to move forward, let’s focus on the enjoyment and the smiles we have the chance to share each day.

This week has been short with the Labor Day holiday last weekend. This past week has seen the Gree Event return to Ilum and will last through Tuesday, Sept. 15. How have you been doing with your reputation to the Gree Enclave? Time to check that out and see what cool things you can get from the Gree vendors before the expansion arrives next month.

SWTOR posts Agent and Smuggler story blogs

BioWare has posted the next two class stories. The Agent and the Smuggler story recap blogs are on the website. These two posts are helping to give players an overview of what has happened in the original class stories. Be aware that there will probably be some spoilers in these posts. One reason for having these story blogs is to help those looking to start the expansion with a brand new character at level 60. It is my understanding that the stories posted will be the canon for those players utilizing the new instant level 60 option.

Be sure to take some time and read through these blogs about the Imperial Agent and the Smuggler classes. Again, these blogs contain some story spoilers. The third blog reported to be about class changes to these two mirror classes has yet to be posted at the time of writing this article.
Hey folks,
Around launch when we implemented the Nightmare versions of Eternity Vault and Karagga’s Palace, they were not quite the same as the Nightmare modes you are used to now. Basically, those old Nightmare ops were simply the same Operations with more health that did more damage.
With the changes we are making in Fallen Empire, all Operations will now be at max level, this means the differences between Hard and Nightmare EV and KP, just don’t stack up against the difficulty differences found in other Operations. Because of this, we are going to be removing Nightmare Mode Eternity Vault and Karagga’s Palace from the game with the launch of Fallen Empire. This will raise a couple of questions about things like Titles and Achievements so here are a few details of the change:

Any unique drops that were found in these Nightmare Modes will now drop in Hard Mode.

The timed run Titles for Nightmare Mode can no longer be earned in Fallen Empire.

Any Achievements which you have earned for these Nightmare Modes will be moved to a new Archived section under Operations, and can no longer be earned.

If you would like to get the timed run titles or NM achievements, now is your chance! Get in there before Fallen Empire launches. Thanks everyone.

Well, if you haven’t got your achievements for these Nightmare mode Ops, the time is now. Many of my guildies have done some of these before we thought they would be bumped up into level 65 NiM Ops. Eric Musco’s post above explains the reason for not making these operations into new nightmare versions. The simple reason is lack of changes between hard and nightmare modes, outside of more boss health plus damage increased from mobs. The other reason, I believe, is because there would be some higher level gear drop on what would be an “easier” NiM version of level 65 ops. This option makes sense, but it would have been cool to see them add a couple extra elements to have SOA challenge level 65 players. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Hey folks,
In Fallen Empire we will be making changes to Conquests so I wanted to let you know about what is being adjusted. One thing that we noticed in looking at Conquests is that not as many players as we would hope are completing their personal targets. We feel this may be because the targets are too high, requiring more time to complete than many players may have available. Because of this we are adjusting the target points for rewards in some Conquests:

All Conquests which previously required 35,000 target points have had that target number reduced to 20,000.

Titans of Industry will remain at 25,000 target points.

Total Galactic War will remain at 50,000 target points.

Trade Emporium will remain at 25,000 target points.

Note that Guilds will still compete, as normal, for the top 10 on each Planet once these targets have been reached.
In looking at our data and in seeing playing feedback, one thing we have noticed is that many Guilds are primarily using the repeatable Crafting objective to gain points for Conquests. Although we want to include Crafting as an essential part of the Conquest effort, we don’t want that objective to be the “only best answer” to Conquests. Due to this we are making the following changes:

The Objective “Conquest: War Supplies” is no longer repeatable and is set to reward 2,000 Conquest Points for any Conquest that included that objective.

These changes will be reflected in Knights of the Fallen Empire when it launches. Thanks everyone.
-eric

There are some changes coming to the Galactic Conquest system. In a dev post by Eric Musco, the target points for players will be lowered except for the weeks of the Total Galactic War and Titans of Industry. Those two weeks will remain their previous values. The other change has to do with a limit on points awarded for crafting war supplies. Previously this was an unlimited type of Conquest objective. This will now be a one-time objective for a total of 2,000 points.

I believe that some changes needed to happen with the Conquest system. However, I am not convinced this is the best change for the system. The point reduction is a step in the right direction, but the changes to the crafting aspect of Conquest seem a bit harsh. Instead of a one-time objective why not reduce it to a number from unlimited to say ten or a few that can be spread across a player’s Legacy. I would also like to see the type of objectives be more diverse and bring in crafting in a way like actually crafting a certain item for an NPC and it count as an objective. Also it would be nice to have more tie-ins with events to Conquest. This would allow people to enjoy the in-game events and also be helping their guild gain points for the Conquest week total.

These are just a few of my thoughts and ideas on the subject. I’m sure you have some suggestions of your own, why not write them down in the comment section below?

Hey folks!
Quick heads up, we are going to be temporarily disabling character transfers starting tomorrow morning at 11AM CDT. Transfers will remain disabled until we come out of maintenance on Tuesday, September 15th. We are going to be working through character transfer things behind the scenes during that time, which is why we are disabling it.
Thanks!

Next week there will be a scheduled maintenance. This is not to out of the norm, but there seems to be something impacting transfers. According to the dev post above, transfers will be suspended until after the maintenance is completed. We will bring you more news about server transfer and when BioWare announces they will resume.

This week, we have a video by YouTube user Revansens. It is a music video titled “Republic Rand SWTOR.” The in-game footage is set to the song “Toxicity” by System of a Down. It is a guitar driven rock song that will have you wanting to use the /angrydance emote. The footage also has a small part where the creator edited some characters head movements and sped the clip up to give the illusion of “head banging.” If you are looking for a quick video to get your pulse quickening before an Op or a PVP match be sure to check this video out.

She has been compiling all of the information submitted by guilds and editing that information together to create one of our favored guild recruiting features, Wall Of Guilds. It is no easy task to edit this piece, but Alice has done it exceptionally well. She has also been team lead on Guild Spotlight, another one of our articles that features one of the fine guilds that help make up Star Wars: The Old Republic. Alice has been a standard here at TORWars and was on board when we first started this site. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our loving crew, but we wish her the very best in all that she does. Please be sure to visit her site at Gamersaurs.com, where you can read all about the latest in video games, or purchase digital downloads of your favorite titles. Please be sure to give Alice a fond farewell in the comments section below. I know she’d love to read your kind words. Cheers!

Now, how about a warm welcome?

Newest to our crew of nerf-herding misfits is none other than the great Caligari. We know it’s hard to tell from his pic (don’t say anything about his dental work – you have been warned.) but Cali brings us a fresh eye, and attention to detail. He’s also one of the best guildies we’ve ever had (despite his need to gnaw on epic loot drops before handing them out). We’re happy that he’s come on board, and a bit confused as to why he’d want to work for us in the first place….please don’t tell him that we are raising a herd of miscreant Tuskens in the back room, or that the wookiees need regular shaving. What Cali doesn’t know, won’t hurt him.

You may have already noticed that his fine writing skills have graced our pages here, here, and here, but please keep a lookout for more of his awesome humor as he continues to submit wonderful work that makes TORWars ever more awesome. You can also give him a warm welcome in our comments section below, but be nice, I have heard he’s got an angry dewback.

Game update 2.6 will hit the servers tomorrow, February 4th, and with it, will come the ability to play Galactic Starfighter for ALL players. There will also be a new ship role, the Bomber. Bombers are tough support ships that drop mines and drones throughout the battlefield which detonate when enemies get close. There’s also a new Galactic Starfighter Team Deathmatch game mode which pits teams of players against one another.

For those that find more fun in Flashpoints, there’s something in the mix for you. Kuat Drive Yards will be the first “tactical” Flashpoint complete with bolstered and role-neutral gameplay, and is available to players starting at level 15.

And, the most important change….Bowdaar is no longer wearing a hoodie in the hangar. Now why would a wookiee need a hoodie? Maybe he was shaved.

“Where’s mah hoodie?!”

Keep scrolling to read what else you can expect to see tomorrow after the patch finishes:

Highlights

Galactic Starfighter Now Available For All Players! – Galactic Starfighter is now available for Free-To-Play, Preferred, and Subscription players! Choose your ship role and help your fellow pilots in 12 vs.12 Battles. Click the Hangar icon next to your minimap to jump into the cockpit now!

New Galactic Starfighter Ship Role: Bomber – The Bomber ship role has been added to Galactic Starfighter, with six new ships available for unlock/purchase!

● Bombers are tough support ships that drop mines and drones throughout the battlefield.

● Mines detonate when enemies get into proximity, inflicting damage or crippling debuffs to all nearby foes.

● Drones attack nearby enemies with a variety of weapons, while Repair Drones restore the hull of nearby allies.

● Bombers can also place Hyperspace Beacons which function as mobile respawn points for their allies.

New Galactic Starfighter Game Mode: Team Deathmatch – Team Deathmatch is a new game mode which pits teams of players against each other. The team with the highest player kill score when either time expires or the score limit is reached wins the match. Team Deathmatch maps also contain a new feature: Power-ups.

Power–ups are spawned in the map at the start of a match, and once picked up will respawn at a random point in an area after a random amount of time. Power–ups provide boosts to the player depending on which is picked up, which currently last 45 seconds. Power–ups on PTS are as follows:

● Engine Overcharge – Doubles engine power regen rate, increases ship speed by 30%, increases ship defense by 15%, refills engine power to full on pickup.

● Weapon Overcharge – Doubles blaster power regen rate, refills blaster power to full on pickup.

● Shield Overcharge– Doubles shield power regen rate, eliminates shield recently consumed regen delay, refills shields to full on pickup.

● Damage Overcharge– Doubles damage from all primary and secondary non–drone weapons.

All power–ups are indicated on the minimap. The Damage Overcharge power–up is a rare spawn, however there is typically at least one up on the map at any point in time. Players that grab this power–up are identified to all players via a broadcast message and are indicated on the minimap.

New Flashpoint: Kuat Drive Yards – Both factions are interested in securing a formidable space armada and fighting over one of the largest starship construction sites. This Flashpoint is designed to be modular, with each “scenario” representing a different part of the expanding plot. This is also the first “tactical” flashpoint, providing bolstered and role-neutral gameplay, and is available to players starting at level 15.

New Reputations have been added to the Galactic Reputation page:

● Republic First Fleet – The Republic First Fleet serves as a beacon of hope across the galaxy, protecting the Galactic Republic’s member worlds and corporate partners from the dark designs of the Sith Empire.

● Imperial Forward Command – The Imperial Forward Command is focused on high-risk offensive strikes against the Galactic Republic and its allies, making it one of the Empire’s deadliest fleets.

New Starfighter Pack coming to the Cartel Market – The Galactic Ace’s Starfighter Pack will be available for purchase on February 11th. Cost: 320 Cartel Coins

General

● New Mount: The KDY Orbital Lifter! This personal heavy construction vehicle was specially designed by Kuat Drive Yards for orbital engineering work deemed too delicate to be automated. It requires Legend rank with the new Imperial Forward Command / Republic First Fleet reputation.

● A new category is available in Group Finder starting at level 15: Tactical Flashpoints. Tactical Flashpoints are role-neutral, meaning group finder will match the first four players it finds. The new Kuat Drive Yards Flashpoint is available in this category in two level brackets: 15-54 and 55. Czerka Corporate Labs and Czerka Core Meltdown are now included in this category at level 55.

● Dread Forces in Oricon are more distracted by the madness of the Dread Masters, reducing the range of their attention.

● Bolster now properly modifies the aggro radius of enemy NPCs and properly displays the difficulty color of enemy NPC levels.

● Group Finder now displays the level range of players it will match for Flashpoints and Operations.

● Players may now queue for Starfighter Battles at the same time as Warzones.

Hey there TORWarriors. Yesterday we were gifted with some Community News from Senior Designer, Jesse Sky. In his blog post he lets us in on some of what we can expect in Game Update 2.6, namely, a new Flahspoint – Kuat Drive Yards.

“…all the pretty stars…” “Uhhh, those aren’t stars…”

Kuat Drive Yards is a new type of instance that we’re calling a Tactical Flashpoint. The main thing that distinguishes Tactical Flashpoints is that they are role-neutral – in other words, they are balanced for a combination of any four classes. This means Group Finder will match the first four players it finds, which translates into drastically shorter queue times, especially for DPS classes. If you’re level 55, you’ve probably seen this in action with the story mode versions of Czerka Corporate Labs and Czerka Core Meltdown, which are now also classified as Tactical Flashpoints.

Kuat Drive Yards is for level 15+ and can be found under the new Tactical Flashpoint category, is role and level neutral, and bolstered (player characters only, no companions) so that a wider variety of players can group together to complete it. That means that higher level players can get together with their lower-level friends for some good old-fashioned Flashpoint fun.

You can read Jesse’s full post here and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

The holidays are, generally speaking, a time in which very little MMO game development takes place. This year, SWTOR has been no exception. We got quite a substantial series of new stuff just prior to the holidays, so there’s nothing to complain about, but still….it makes your friendly neighborhood TORWars staff feel a little unproductive if there isn’t any news to report on.

Since this has been such a slow news week — veeeeery slow, in fact — we decided that this little ditty was just the ticket to keep everyone’s spirits up. This comes to us from Omer and Lylah on the Harbinger server, and it’s a musical, holiday-themed tour of SWTOR. It’s fun, funny, and very entertaining, so watch and enjoy!

This past couple of week’s certainly been busy ones in the SWTOR universe! We’ve had a slew of golden posts by devs/community team members, all containing juicy nuggets of information about developments in everyone’s favorite MMO. This kind of information from the community team is certainly welcome.

Also, it looks like Update 2.6 will go live on February 4th. What’s in 2.6? Quite a lot, it seems, and we’ll be discussing all of it with you.

Of course, by the time you read this, Update 2.5.2 has been alive and well on the servers. Was this just another maintenance patch, or was there a BIG secret surprise in store for SWTOR players? Of course, we’ll let you know what we think of this latest event/surprise/thingie!

~~~
NEWS
1. Update 2.5.2 went live on Tuesday, January 14th, and 2.5.2a went live on January 21st. This really looked to be largely a maintenance update. Of course, on the 21st, everyone was greeted with a somewhat unexpected surprise (well, some spoilers were released by data miners, etc).
2. Update 2.6 is scheduled to go live on February 4th! In Update 2.6, there are a number of improvements and updates to the classes, which is certainly welcome.
3. 2.6 will allow players to simultaneously queue for Warzones AND Galactic Starfighter, and will provide a detailed scoreboard for GSF! The simultaneous queuing is a very significant quality of life improvement for PvPers everywhere.
4. 2.6 will also introduce the bomber to Galactic Starfighter. We got to see the bomber in action during the beta testing of GSF, and it’s on the live test server now. It’s a nice addition to the game, but the consequences introducing a new spacecraft may be far reaching.
5. Finally, 2.6 will introduce a new game mode to Galactic Starfighter: Team Deathmatch. Essentially, Deathmatch will simply track each team’s kills, and the team with the highest number of kills wins. There are two ways to win: when the timer runs out, and when a kill cap has been reached. There are also power-ups in the game, which is a new feature.
INSIGHT:
The new “Live Stream” feature is a rarity in the realm of MMO community teams. Is this a needed form of interaction between the community and the SWTOR dev team, or is it just a gimmick? Tune in, as both Jeff and Deirdre give their opinions!
DISCUSSION:
A new live event, the Rakghoul Plague Outbreak, appeared on Alderaan. On Monday, January 13th, a significant number of hints by the Community Team were dropped, indicating a live event is imminent. Then, on the 21st, the event finally went live. Of course, we share our thoughts on this subject. Is it just a Rakghoul rehash, or did players get something more?
<img class="size-full wp-image-73318" alt="Yeah, yeah, I used a pic from the old Rakghoul event.
