Harley Leaving The Syst3m

I'm a good black jack player. And the reason I'm good is not because I can count cards or anything to do with mathematical odds. It's because I have an unerring instinct as to when the odds are stacked against me and it's time to pick up my chips and leave the table. It's nothing to do with quitting or losing, it's about leaving with dignity and strength.

I think that time has come with Syst3m 32. I've had the feeling for some time but recent events have confirmed it to me. If this band was going to succeed, it would have done it by now.

I'm not saying that it's been a complete waste of time, I've learnt a few new songs, been introduced to a few new bands, learnt more about the music scene in Lancaster, a town which is still new to me. I've enjoyed the open mike nights at the Golden Lion and our 20 min slot at the Gregson charity gig and the music co-op has been a great facility for all the rehearsing we've done. Recording was also fun and it's nice to have a memory of what Syst3m 32 sounded like.

So it true award ceremony style, I'd like to leave with a few thanks. This is in no real order and I apologise for any I forget.
First I'd like to thank my Wife Steph and daughter Constance for their continued support and for putting up with my absence whilst at rehearsals, band meetings open mike nights, etc. Thanks also for putting up wit the noise we made while practising in the garage

Also on that note, thanks to Meg and Matt for letting us practise at their place. Thanks also to Matt, without whom there would never have been Syst3m 32, for his invaluable advice, support and impeccable Bass playing.

Thanks also to our two drummers. Nigel, you were there when we needed you and for that we are in your debt. Your advice and experience were a real asset to us. Maxwell, you injected new life into the band with your enthusiasm but I think your Mother has made a wise decision in asking you to concentrate on your studies. Whatever path you chose in life, I'm sure it will be a bright one.

Thanks to Alex for all the work he has put into the website, it really is quite stunning and I'm glad the band provided such a good project for you to focus your skills on.

The same to Rich, the other Blade in the band, thanks for providing an extra voice in our democracy.

Now I know that this blog will be submitted to our forum as a topic of discussion, so if any one wants to come back at me with anything, you know my mind is always open. But, for now, I'm folding, cashing my chips and heading to the door'.
- By Harley

Updates And Inventions

Well it appears that there have been many updates since our recording blog so I thought I would post something to say hello and let you know the current happenings of Syst3m 32.

At the present time we are currently looking for gigs, and places to show off our new recordings to so that we can get out of the practice rooms and into a gigging environment. However, despite the resources we thought we had at our disposal (and because of factors outside our control that I will explain a bit later on) this has not been the case and finding gigs has proven very difficult.

We have a birthday party coming up on the 18th July for one of or members, Caron, so we'll be playing that with a passion and we hope that she has a lovely time. I have submitted our name and interest to a couple of other places as well but currently we haven't heard anything back, though one isn't a 'now' thing yet anyways.

At some point when we get a chance our CD will be being submitted to a couple of local places we can think of that might like our sound and give us some gigging time. But another problem exists (as is always the way with Syst3m 32!) in that, our drummer, Maxwell, currently has a broken toe and some very important studies to attend to, which means that, for now at least, things are on hold for Syst3m 32.

We do hope that Maxwell's toe recovers well and he gets all better soon. And I would like to take this oppurtunity to wish him the best of luck in his exams and whatnot at college! Can't wait till the summer when we can steal you back!

We will continue to work on our material and are looking at adding one or two songs to our repertoire to widen our horizons for those that care to listen to us play, so we hope you will enjoy those. The songs will be revealed in due time.

For now, all that's left to say is fairwell and keep logging on to the site!
- By Alex Hall

Recording Session - 06/05/08

Last night (06/05/08) Syst3m 32 were in Betham at a small recording studio called Stonegate Recording (who also have a MySpace). For the two hours we were there we managed to get three tracks recorded, which is pretty good going.

It took us a while to find the studio as it is not very big and turned out to be in the middle of nowhere with no sign posts! After asking for directions we finally made it there with a few minutes to spare and were warmly welcomed by Sam, the sound engineer, and began setting our stuff up in the studio.

Bringing our three small amps proved perfect as there was not that much room in the studio, but each amp had it's own microphone so the level could more easily be controlled and the volume wouldn't be an issue. Once we were all set up it was time to get started.

We began by playing through all three tracks we wanted to record so that Sam could get the sound levels all worked out. It was quite a strange sensation hearing yourself through headphones whilst you are playing the music, but it was comfortable and we soon got down to some serious jamming.

After the first set was played through once we went and had a listen to see how things sounded then tweaked one or two things, changed some levels and went back to the sound room and played the three tracks again. After the three this time we felt that Umbrella needed another run through so whilst we were ready we played that one through again and it was absolutely spot on!

Taking our cue from there we thought we'd do the other two through twice each as that had just worked for Umbrella, but it turned out that the next run through of both songs was also perfect and we had our three base tracks recorded!

All that was left to work on was some backing vocals so Harley, Rich and myself took to the studio ourselves and did our best with some backing vocals. Once completed, everything was done and it was just a case of listening to the tracks we had recorded, okaying them, and getting them burnt to CD.

The recording session was a success! Three tracks done in two hours.

So, the moment you have been waiting for! If you want to listen to the recordings (and you have an account with Syst3m 32) you can simply head here and listen to them from our music player. If not I will post the tracks in this blog later on, so if you can't wait, and aren't already registered, sign up now and get them listened!
- By Alex Hall

Syst3m Stages

Last night Syst3m 32 were at their final practice at the The Music Co-op before the recording session next Tuesday. The general consensus from the session was that we are ready! The practice went really well and we are ALL raring to go and get this practice done so that we can get some music on the site and out there, which will hopefully lead to the gigs.

We'll let you know about the recording some time next week and the songs that will be recorded will be available for you to download here, and most probably at our MySpace Page too so get them downloaded and listened and then let us know what you think! (I'll create a comment section for the music-player page so you can add comments to our songs).

The list for the recording session is going to be kept a secret for now, but I might divulge this information at some point. However, be rest assured that in the three songs we have chosen to play you will see a very diverse Syst3m 32 as we strive to reach as many different ears as possible with our songs.

Oh and one other thing... wait till you here the solo'age' from Harley! Prepare to be blinded!

Other Things

Other musings by me are going to focus around Maxwell (the new drummer to Syst3m 32) and how well he has fit in to the band! Once again, we really can't thank him enough for joining because, aside from being a very good drummer, Maxwell has been able to add the one piece of our music that was missing in a very good style and with plenty of flair. He's also managed to improve on a few of the songs we've done with his take on how he feels they should sound. So thanks again to Maxwell for joining and staying!
- By Alex Hall

First a big thank you to Rich for hosting and cooking up a storm. It was a good chilled out evening listening to the tracks. It'd be cool to get them on a cd or a download so we can listen to them again. It was a bit of a shocker to find Rich is a blockheads fan (well done, that man!) and that Matt included a longpigs track. The Fatboy Slim track also brought back a load of good memories. It's a shame Maxwell couldn't make it, especially as we needed help eating all that Chilli. And we still need his tracks on the cd :) Now on with the recording and gigs to follow..... :D
- By Harley

A Quick Hello

Just thought we'd say hello to everyone quickly - things seem to have been quiet for a few days (we are all clearly recovering from rock oblivion that was unleashed last thursday in practice) and just update everyone else on whats going on on planet Syst3m.

We're hopefully getting some recordings sorted this week (for the love of god we all hope so) so you should all have some full, high quality tracks ready very soon indeed. You'll hopefully be able to actually see us out and about very soon too - we'll let you know when we do.

Tonight sees the band having a little meeting about music and 'band stuff' where we will hopefully be able to get some ideas put across and future possibilities sorted, or at least discussed (and of course having a good meal and drinks too!).

One or two site updates include, for the band members some proper SEO and statistics, plus a little more ease when it comes to editing blogs and gigs. For users, I've been working on some tightened security, not that the site is unsecure, but just because it should be as secure as possible.

Also, profiles can now have your images added to them, just go to your profile (by clicking your username at the top of a page) and then clicking 'Edit Profile'. At the bottom you can upload your picture.

Watch this space as we will keep you updated on the progress of the band as we strive to get some recordings out to you, and us out for gigs!

Practice, Venue And General Awesomeness!

So, last night saw the first practice of the full band of Syst3m 32 and it went very very well indeed. The general process consisted of us playing through a couple of the older songs to warm up and get a feel for the sound and the drums.

The new material we worked on generally sounded really good, although there are of course a few kinks to iron out here and there, but we're definitely impressed and rather excited about the songs we played.

Maxwell did an awesome job on the drums, considering he doesn't really know the songs at the moment or the style that Syst3m 32 play to. But he did really well and we've finally got the 'full band' sound that has been missing since we started the band.

There are hopefully going to be some new pictures to add to the site so we can get Maxwell on, and we'll stick up some of the practice photos that were taken last night if we can. We didn't manage to get round to any recording, but we're going to be looking at doing that in a couple of weeks once we've arranged the tracks we're going to record and got them completely sounding spot on. Watch this space as we will be letting you all kno when the new songs are available!

We also had some possibly good news at the mention of a new venue to do out practicing at, which is good considering the imminent closure of The Musicians Co-op, which will be such a shame because it is pretty much the only place in the area that does what it does, so thanks to Maxwell for his part in this!

Okay ladies and gentlemen, some of the images that were taken at the practice session are now available in the gallery pages of the site so head there and take a look at Syst3m 32 rocking out! :)
- By Alex Hall

Ok so the quality is poor, but it is now official - you can hear the Syst3m in all their glory... (well for about 20 seconds, a in slightly crackly, and vocal lacking glory) - please let us know what you think and we aim to have full tracks available as soon as possible...

A Whisper Syst3m Is Born!

Okay, it's rather late (or early) and I'm going to bed, but before I go I thought I might tell you a little bit about the new whisper syst3m (like that!) I have just built.

Firstly, for those that don't know, to access your 'profile' all you need to do is click on your username. I've changed this slightly as it used to be a 'manage' link, but if you go to your profile you can see the details available and from there can click a link to edit those details'

There is now a comment counter that tells us how many comments you've posted and the top three commentors get a funky little 'Trophy'! (This only works if you post comments under your own username or a combination of your first or last name or together, obviously those that aren't logged in when they post will not be recorded in this manner. So please make sure you post whilst logged in with either your username, first name, last name, or both).

But, further to this I have just finished the first steps to a 'whisper' syst3m that will allow you to send 'whispers' (yes stolen from the forum!) to anyone else registered to the site. Just click your username and then click the 'whispers' link to be taken to your inbox. From there you can manage your whispers and write new ones to other members of the site.

Funky hey!? All whispers are private so no-one else can read them. Once you've had a play with them let me know what you think and feel free to offer tips and bugs to me so I can make it a better part of the site :)

For now, enjoy!
- By Alex Hall

so as promised (to alex atleast) here is my (more than 8 words already) blog:

well i guess i have to start with our first practice in a while last thursday and our first practice with liam - hopefully our new full time drummer. i'll start with a big thanks to him - he came - he drummed - he conquered - we just all hope he turns up to our next practice. on a serious note he was excellent and had the knack to pick up the material straight away and even seemed to like the sort of thing we were doing. as for the rest of us (minus matt - i mean come on, stag do in prague or wet and windy thursday night in the music co-op) we really seemed to get straight back into it quickly - i mean its been a while.

as for what we've got going on in the upcoming months who knows, but we're planning on finally getting some recording done and hopefully securing some kind of gigs and ofcourse getting back down the lion on a tuesday. whenever and wherever it may be, we'll hope to see you there!
- By Rich

Over the next 2 weeks we are going to move towards recording and once we have something to demonstrate our prowess on MP3 we will set out on our plan of world domination (Evil Cackle!). Redneck death metal rules!!!
- By Harley
