I've also included Letterman's emotional monologue from the first broadcast after the disaster. I defy you not to get choked up at least a bit when he describes his love and respect for New York City:

<itunes:summary>Nashville singer/songwriter Jason White paid a visit to InCtrl Studios to talk with Steve, Andy, and Bo of the Shoot Your Television Podcast about his work and life.  He even plays two songs, "Little Pieces of Plastic" and the unreleased "Little Old Me".

Perhaps best known to the casual listener as the songwriter of Tim McGraw's controversial hit Red Rag Top (2002), Jason has built a dedicated and strong following by being honest about the people and situations that he encounters.  His music invokes emotional responses that, as evidenced by the questions and stories from Steve and the others, often become integral to the memories of the listener. In other words, Jason's songs become part of the story.

Jason opened up about the losses as well as the victories.  Events such as signing with Universal Records in the 90's, then recording with producer John Simon only to have the album shelved by the label, are recalled in a manner that only time and experience affords.  Recent personal losses and the tumult that informed past songwriting are balanced with humor and a positive outlook, such as his experience competing on Star Search years ago alongside his band the Janglers.

Many thanks to Jason White for taking the time to come in and hang out with us.

This week, David chose Rise of the Scarecrows, a 2007 effort from horror auteur Geno McGahee that is as perplexing as it is terrible.

A big city cop transfers to a smaller precinct in Adams, Mass to get away from the high crime rate or something.  Never mind that the precinct looks like someone's dining nook or that the big city cop in question is in no shape for law enforcement whatsoever.

Just know that he and other luckless characters must now face the three undead scarecrows that inhabit the woods.  And since everyone in this film either lives in or hangs out in or cuts through said woods, we now have ourselves a movie.

Are the Scarecrows simply a force of nature? A comment on our times? A reflection on the human situation? No. No they aren't. Some dude just thought they would be scary. And now it's our problem.

Special thanks to Geno McGahee and David Buchert! - InCtrl Studios</itunes:summary>

I thought the film was a great take on what has become, in the superhero genre, something akin to a recent graduate that keeps haunting next year's parties: the origin story.

I also happily found myself un-distracted by the use of "found footage", a  convention that is leaning on the patience of film professionals and fans alike.

Bo, Steve, Andy and I engage in a spoiler -filled round-table about a film that is several things at once: superhero origin story, coming-of-age tale, found footage film, tragedy.

Trivia:

The song This Bright Flash, by M.8.3 that plays during the end credits features only one line of lyrics: "I killed all the rainbows and the species." - IMDB Chronicle Trivia

Claymation demons, mustaches that change scene to scene, flare-guns, and a dubious take on law enforcement make this week's entry a special one.  Christopher Thies' Winterbeast (1991), is the Honey Badger of horror films.
Winterbeast don't care.

"The people that made this are insane to think that they could put these scenes in this order... and release it as some kind of cogent story that normal people that have not engaged in some type of hallucinogens can piece together as a natural, narrative structure... you almost have to Carlos Casteneda this thing..."

<itunes:summary>Get Comfortable. And Get to Know Each Other.
This is the underlying wisdom of Michael Stanley's Attack of the Beast Creatures (1985), a wonderfully painful romp through the wilds of someone's Connecticut back yard. We join this magnum opus in 1920 as a lifeboat of survivors from the recently sunken Obelisk reaches the shore of what one of the characters theorizes to be Greenland. He's an idiot.

The wooden Captain leads the bickering group inland for no other reason than to trigger ghastly attacks from 13 inch dolls that can be classified as neither beast nor creature. But beware: they bite. And jump. And run like a 1970's action figure with Kung Fu Chop Motion.

They also pray to false idols that look like South Park's Terrence or Philip. Evil!

In this Episode 11, Bo, Steve, and Brian talk about the the bonding experience that is "Beast Creatures", all the while examining the nuances and subtleties that this gift of a film has to offer. The conversation naturally turns to other horror fare, including the best examples of the genre such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1977) and John Carpenter's Halloween (1980). They even have time to examine the similarities between horror and comedy. Oh yeah. They went there.

In all, this episode is a prime example of why people get into podcasting.  We are very proud of this show, and hope you listen to us whenever you want to be a part of a great conversation. So get comfortable.  And get to know us.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Night of the Creeps and other stories.
The full cast of Andy, Bo, Brian, and Steve reconvene to spend perfectly valuable time on a weighty pursuit: watching Night of the Creeps (1986) on Blu-Ray! Fun facts: Andy had never seen it before. That should not surprise you.  Steve thought it was a more recent film cleverly set in the eighties. That probably should not surprise you either. At any rate, we turn on the mics to dissect this Eighties classic and discuss what we learned.  There are diversions, trust me, but it all makes sense in the end.

Directed and written by Fred Dekker, "Creeps" is a tender, coming of age tale about a lovesick kid that learns the ropes of life and love... via alien parasite-infested zombies. Throw in hard boiled Tom Atkins,  and an impossibly hot Jill Whitlow... Hell, what else do you need?

Bo, our classic movie corespondent, reports from the Chinese Embassy:

"Anticipation is a tricky thing.  It can lead to disappointment, disillusionment and depression, all great Scrabble words, but bad for the soul.  On the other hand, anticipation fulfilled can bring a sense of glorious satisfaction when your hopes are met with reality and, for a fleeting moment, a sense of calm happiness pervades your very being.  For those of us who grew up on the 1986 Fred Dekker film Night of the Creeps, it’s very lack of availability gave it iconic status and made its debut on DVD and Blu-ray an event.  I’m happy to report that the results are satisfying.

Dekker, who had almost been part of the team that made the haunted house horror-comedy House, left that project to work on his own script entitled Night of the Creeps.  Borrowing heavily from the alien invasion films of the 1950s and embracing modern horror conventions, Dekker crafted an homage to all things horrific, going so far as to name people and places in the film after genre directors of the day (many of whom are more famous now than they were when the film released).

The movie follows best friends Chris (Jason Lively) and J.C. (Steve Marshall) as they attempt to rush a fraternity in hopes of winning the heart of the beautiful Cynthia (Jill Whitlow) for Chris.  To do so, they must break into the college medical building, swipe a corpse and deposit it on a rival frat’s doorstep.  What they find is a body held in a tube, frozen in suspended animation..." Pi Day is a holiday commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi).  Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 (or 3/14 in month/day date format), since 3, 1 and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.

Pi Approximation Day is held on July 22 (or 22/7 in day/month date format), since the fraction 22⁄7 is a common approximation of π.

Larry Shaw created Pi Day in 1988. The holiday was celebrated at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where Shaw worked as a physicist, with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, then consuming fruit pies. The Exploratorium continues to hold Pi Day celebrations.

On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution (HRES 224), recognizing March 14, 2009, as National Pi Day.
For Pi Day 2010, Google presented a Google Doodle celebrating the holiday, with the word Google laid over images of circles and pi symbols.

That's off of Wikipedia.  If you have issue with those facts, well... I don't know, good for you.  You're the fucking coolest. It was either that or the cotton gin.  Get off my lawn.</itunes:summary>

We get back to what we liked about the film Blood Oath and then other horror films that that leave a mark.

		<itunes:summary>Hey, you on the skis!
Tonight, Bo opens the show by remembering the film "Meatballs" and how it seemed like the coolest place on the planet. The guys swap summer camp humor when Brian drops a bombshell: On one summer morning back in the 80's, in a quiet Scout Camp on the river, the Legend of the Phantom Logger was born. A tortured mad-person began leaving their unique calling card in conspicuous areas:  middle of the trail, shower stall, dining hall entrance... yeah. Getting the picture?

Though a mere patsy was sacrificed to the rabid scout masses, the real perpetrator escaped to log again, leaving a cold case behind him (her?... nah). That begs several questions: Is there an aging groundskeeper somewhere with facts, clues, and diagrams arranged on a bulletin board labeled "Unsolved"? Did the legend die that fateful summer? Will Kate Beckinsdale ever just come to her senses and realize that we're supposed to be together?

And who's your favorite Star Wars bad guy?

We get into a brief debate about corporate vs. government controlled space exploration. Should NASA be the only entity that explores space?

A fact-finding mission to find out Ray Parker Jr.'s other hit leads to Don Cornelius' suicide.  The guys "Quincy" that shit real quick. Speaking of crime scenes, Bo and Steve's exchange justifies a spoiler alert concerning the show "Dexter". If you havent made it past Season 2, then hum to yourself for a couple minutes starting at 36:00.

We go over how action movies affected us both as a kid and nowadays, whereupon Bo reveals two instances of bad theater behavior from his teenage years. This passage includes a mild segue into... the Naked Batman.

<itunes:summary>On facing mortality and the strange ritual of funerals.
Our conversation last Friday night led to an examination of death, funerals, and how we react to both.We go on to discuss insane funeral ideas that only time, funds, and familial patience would allow. Bo has a long-standing wish that involves a catapult. That's right.

The conversation turns briefly to the Mormons baptizing the dead before we talk about how and why the Westboro Baptist Church protests the funerals of soldiers. Andy and Steve reveal ways they don't want to die, such as drowning or being burned to death. Being gored by a unicorn comes up. That's all Andy, but try not to think of it now.

Other topics include: Kevin Smith's Red State, The Tourette's Guy, and gaming. Of course.

Any cool funeral ideas? Please leave a comment.</itunes:summary>
