According to Andy Rubin or Google's Android devision, Android is running on as many as six million tablets. With Apple selling as many as 11 million iPads last quarter, Google still has a lot of work ahead of them.

Andy Rubin, head of Google’s Android division, says six million tablets are running Android, making the case that Android is gaining some ground in the iPad-dominated tablet market.

“It’s not 30 million, but it’s a healthy start,” said Rubin, Google’s vice president of mobile, answering a question about why Android tablets “completely flopped.” With more than 11 million tablets sold last quarter alone, no one has yet to come close to the iPad, Rubin responding : “Obviously, we have to get there,”

It is important to note that the six million figure may not be completely accurate as Android also powers tablets that aren’t labeled as “Android devices”, including the new Amazon Kindle Fire device. With pre-order estimates as high as 95,000 on the day of it’s announcement and a steady 20,000 per day since then, the $200 Fire tablet is creating a new segment in a market dominated by Apple.

On the other hand, Android has had its share of setbacks. Currently Samsung is in a patent war with Apple over the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1. The Android device has been banned in Australia and US injuctions could follow. These decisions could seriously impact Galaxy sales this holiday season.

Amazon's latest tablet is causing quite a stir among analysts. This latest tablet creates a new segment in the tablet market and is more attractive to the average American consumer than the iPad.

Since Amazon has announced the $199 Kindle Fire in late september, sales estimates for Amazon’s latest tablet have been increasing. With 95,000 pre-orders the day of the announcement and a steady 20,000 a day since then according to eDataSource, this could be the hottest tablet this Holiday Season.

All the while other analysts are suggesting that these estimates are far too low and that in reality up to 25,000 Fires are being pre-ordered each day.

Peter Rojas of gtdg.com thinks the Kindle Fire will dominate the market this holiday season, ahead of devices like the Roku Internet TV Box and Canon’s PowerShot S100 camera. He cites the price point as an attractive entry point for people who already own an Apple iPad and are in the market for a second tablet. This lower priced tablet is also ideal for consumers who passed on an iPad because it was too expensive.

While the iPad created a new category in the personal computer market, the Kindle Fire has created a new segment in the tablet market. According to Dominic Field of the Boston Consulting Group : ”Our research suggests that $199 is the price point that mass market America was looking for in a tablet,” Field said. “This is the point at which it moves from being a very successful phenomenon for early adopters to the mass consumer market.”

The Apple iPad will remain the dominant force in the tablet market until 2014, according to a study by Gartner. Tablet sales are forecast to top 250 million this year, with Apple’s iPad accounting for about 73% of them. Andriod based tablets are forecast to be the second most popular with only 17% of the market. Gartner also forecast Apple’s market share to stay above 50% until 2015, with the Android share increasing, but not surpassing Apple’s share.

Gartner attributes Apples success to their ability to create a unified user experience across all their platforms. Gartner Research Vice President Carolina Milanesi said until competitors were able to develop similar integrated systems then Apple would continue to dominate the market. The integration of iPhones, iPads and iPods makes syncing information across all platforms very easy and helps users to switch seamlessly between devices. In contrast, moving data and contacts between different platforms can be time consuming and even impossible.

However, despite its success, the iPad has yet to penetrate the business market, or completely replace laptops for users who own one. A recent Citigroup survey of 1,800 iPad users in the US, UK and China revealed 67% of users use their iPads for general web surfing, while only 15% use them for business applications and even fewer, around 12%, bought them to replace their laptops.

The iPad 2 further enhanced Apple’s appeal to the leisure, rather than business, market, by adding two cameras. One is a 5MP camera facing away from the user for photos and the other faces the user for Facetime and other video chat applications. Apple’s commercials for iPad 2 target leisure users, even though the slimmer size, faster processor and extra memory arguably provide more benefit to a business user than a leisure user.

Part of Apples dominance in the tablet market is something that also helped their comeback in the personal computing market – continuous updates and upgrades. Most Apple products are the flagship for about a year before they are replaced with a faster model. It’s frustrating if you want to keep up with all the latest devices, but it keeps Apple products ahead of the competition.

Apple recently announced the latest version of their operating system for iPhones and iPads a new version of the iPhone. Both iOS5 and the iPhone 4S are designed to bring new features to the tablet market and Apple’s website claims iOS5 has over 200 new features. Along with iOS 5, Apple announced iCloud which will wirelessly sync data across all Apple devices. This means easier integration, without the need to connect all your devices to your PC and sync via iTunes.

As Apple continues to push the envelope in the tablet and mobile computing market, Gartner’s predictions of continued market dominance look very prophetic. Even though the latest announcement did not include news about the long-awaited iPhone 5 or iPad 3, iOS 5, the iPhone 4S and iCloud are than enough to keep consumers excited, and competitors struggling to keep up.

The iPad 2 has been out for several months and a jailbreak solution has just been released. Here is a review of one of our favorite one-click jailbreak tools.

Ever since the release of the iPad 2 in March, Apple has dominated the tablet market. With the release of this new tablet, we’ve seen the iPad go from a simple tablet computer to an all-in-one multimedia device. The addition of front and rear facing cameras as well as a dual-core processor makes it both a fun and powerful device.

But like any iDevice Apple releases, hacker continue to want to jailbreak it and unlock even more features. The new iPad is no exception to the rule. However, contrarily to other Apple devices, the iPad 2 has taken more than 3 months to jailbreak since it’s release. While jailbreaking the first generation iPad or the iPhone 4 proved to be a simple task for experienced jailbreakers, Apple had prepared this version of the iPad to resist jailbreaking. Well after 3 months of waited, patience has paid off and we now have a working jailbreak for the iPad 2

Jailbreak iPad 2 : a one-click jailbreak solution

At jailbreak-ipad2.net, you are provided with a one-click jailbreak solution. While jailbreaking used to take anywhere between 5 to 10 minutes, this new solution takes seconds, no reboot is necessary! Simply, head over to their website, sign-up and you will be unlocking your device in no time.

What do I gain from jailbreaking my iPad 2?

There is much to gain. You device is normally blocked by Apple. Unlocking it gives you full access to all it’s features.

Download all the apps Apple doesn’t approve in the “other app store”, Cydia

Change the look of your iPad by installing themes. Your friends will love this one

Download thousands of free games and apps you won’t find anywhere else

Access you devices internal file system and tweak it for better performance

Customize your home screen with widgets

Lose the cable and sync over Wifi

Unlike more jailbreak solutions, Jailbreak iPad 2 doesn’t just provide you with the guide and software to jailbreak your device, they also give you access to a bunch of guides showing you what you can do once you’ve unlocked your iPad. They are also happy to help you by email should you have any questions.

We’re tried Jaibreak iPad 2 and we were very pleased with the service. We are sure you will love them to so why not give it a try.

After a very long wait and many failed attempts, a one-click jailbreak solution for the iPad 2 has been released and is now publicly available.

You have waited and waited and it’s finally here. Hackers have finally managed to crack the iPad 2 and come up with a jailbreak solution for Apple’s latest tablet device.

The jailbreaking genius @comex has just released a new website, JailbreakMe.com from which iPhone, iPad and iPad 2 users can jailbreak their devices from within Safari. The whole process takes about 2 minutes and installs Cydia on their homescreen. This of course allows them to install third party apps not available in the Apple App store. Users may also customize their device by installing themes and custom widgets.

This new jailbreak method is the safest way to jailbreak your iPad 2. According to the developer, it is strictly impossible to brick your device using this method. In any case, you can alway revert back to the un-jailbroken state by doing a restore from iTunes.

Go to JailbreakMe.com today and you will notice a very interesting update. It's not what you think but let's hope it's not as bad as it looks.

There is no doubt that simplest jailbreak to ever go public was JailbreakMe.com for the iPhone last year. Although Apple was able to quickly update iOS and patch the exploit which allowed the iPhone to be jailbroken, @comex the developer behind the one-click unlocking solution has been hard at work for the last 3 months trying to jailbreak the iPad 2 and release JailbreakMe 3.0.

There has been a lot of buzz, speculation and anticipation as the iPad 2 does not yet have a working jailbreak. These last few weeks, visitors to jailbreakme.com where greeted with a nice snowy ski hill with a sign that read “PDF”, which lead most to believe that the vulnerability that would be used to jailbreak the iPad 2 would be in Safari’s PDF interpreter. Today, @comex has updated the site… but it still does now offer a new jailbreak. Instead, the site simply shows a message that reads “It’s been far too long” along with commit logs since August 2010.

This update is causing quite a stir among iPad 2 users who have been waiting more than 3 months for a jailbreak. The upcoming launch of JailbreakMe is widely expected to support every iOS device and bellow including the iPad 2. It is still much too early to tell if we will be able to jailbreak iOS 5 on the iPad 2 when it comes out this fall.

What does this update to JailbreakMe mean? Has @comex run out of patience or is this a hint that a jailbreak solution for iPad 2 is getting closer? We certainly hope its the latter. In any case, you can show your support to @comex by going to FreeMyiPad.com where you can tweet a thank you message to the developer.

He most certainly needs and deserves it.

New studies show that Apple has clear dominance over the tablet market while Android is and will continue to gain considerable ground.

According to a new study of Internet traffic released by comScore in the US, Apple’s iPad effectively owns the tablet market. The iPad, which was first released just over a year ago counts for a staggering 97 percent of tablet device internet traffic in the US and 89 percent globally. Amazingly, it accounts for 22 percent of non-PC traffic in the US. Turning to Android, we see that leaves them with very little. Only 2 percent of US tablet internet use comes from Google mobile OS.

Although it’s clear to all that Apple needs to keep a close eye on its competitors, other information points to prolonged iPad dominance for many years to come. Recent analysis by Gartner shows the iPad will continue to dominate this space well into 2015. As Android continues to refine itself and become more familiar to consumers, it will steadily take a bigger slice of the tablet market share.

As for the tablet market as a whole, Gartner forecasts a boom in 2011 with overall sales of tablet devices more than tripling over 2010. This growth will continue through 2015, tablet sales reaching just under 300 million worldwide according to Gartner.

Android gamers will be disappointed to hear that Google has decided to remove a number of popular console emulators from the Android Market over the weekend. These popular apps within the gaming community were designed to emulated gaming systems like the Playstation or Super Nintendo. This would allow users to play classic games on their Android devices.

The developer of these apps, Yong Zhang commented on the issue in an Engadget post saying that Google not only removed the Apps without warning but also revoked his developer privileges. I can imagine this is not sitting well with that developer as this was his primary source of income and many of the pulled emulators were some of the most popular paid apps on the Android Market.

Google’s move was not without reason however, apparently receiving a complaint from Sega in February. An other developer was offered the same treatment last month when his app, a PlayStation emulator was pulled and his developer privileges stripped. While fans might be in arms about this, game emulators aren’t exactly legal as they facilitate the the distribution of pirated video games.

What do you think? Was Google right in removing these apps from the Market? More importantly, were they too harsh on the developers by revoking their ability publish other apps on the Android Market?

iPad Unlockr 4.3.1 has just been released allowing users to jailbreak the latest version of iOS in untethered mode.

Today, literally days after Apple released it’s most recent update of iOS 4.3.1, hackers and developers were able to jailbreak the device. Unlike the last release, this update brings full untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak for all devices except iPad 2. This means of course that users will not have to jailbreak their devices every time they reboot.

How to jailbreak iPad 4.3.1?

For now only a few software options have been made available.
Recently appearing on the Engadget Show, HP's John Rubenstein talked about how webOS apps will run on HP desktop computers.

In a recent appearence on the Engadget Show, HP’s John Rubenstein talked about how wbbOS would run on non-tablet HP computers.

According to him, webOS apps will be able to run on Windows. Good news! But wait, there’s a catch. For now, webOS apps will run in a window on top of Microsoft Windows. The OS won’t replace Windows or be available as a dual-boot option but rather as a sort of virtual machine where everything is confined to that environment. This of course implies that webOS apps will not be able to interact with Windows applications or vice versa. These are undoubtedly first steps towards more integrated and user friendly solutions.

It also seems as though native webOS apps built using the plugin development kit (PDK) might not be able to run on Windows either. For now only apps built using HTML5 and other web-based technologies will be supported. (via PreCentral)

Although HP’s efforts to bring webOS to the desktop do not go unoticed, perhaps they should have waited until a better and more intergrated solution became avaialble. Instead, this limited and seaminly complicated way of doing things may simply leave customers frustrated.
