However, the last few weeks have kept me moving at warped speed. So, I admit my writing has slacked a bit but the ideas are ever flowing in my mind. I did see, courtesy of a fine friend, Toni Morrison at Burress Hall on the campus of Virginia Tech. I have to be truthful being in the same room with Morrison, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez and other great literary talents made me teary-eyed. I kept wondering what does it take to be on par with them. Is it possible? Have I had enough human experience to be a great writer? Have a felt the human condition deep enough? I do believe such things are essential. If you can't understand how a villian feels then how can you possibly write about one? If you can't feel the sorrow for the trivial then how could you expect a character too? This is not a blog where you'll find me boosting about my upcoming novel and blah, blah, blah. Okay, actually that was a lie. You will find me talking about my work and maybe one day something to be published. But this is not just all about that. This is, as I've said, a writer's blog. It will be filled with mistakes and questions. I'm sure also some pointless tidbits too.

I hope this will be fun for me and get my creative flow in gear. I've needed an outlet for a while and have thought about film and theater too.

On my Morrison: My goal was to take as many pictures as I could of all the great ladies and other wonderful talents on stage. Angela Davis, revolutionary, was there and I would have loved to have gotten her photo as well. But out of respect of the request that we were asked not to take photos I obided. Unfortunately. The one moment I wasn't a rebel. I still kinda hate myself for it.

Good friends give friends tickets to see....

Yesterday I met my friend T. downtown for lunch. We went to one of our favorite places, Nawab's, which has a excellent lunch buffet. For anyone who likes Indian food and is in the Roanoke area I recommend it. We did our usual catching up since it has been a good month since we last were in each others company. The talk was mostly of graduate school applications and then my good friend announced she had tickets to Virginia Tech this coming Tuesday. An honor will be bestowed onto author Toni Morrison by poets Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou. My good friend invited me along. I'm so excited. The idea that I will be under the same roof with three brillant writers makes me giddy! I'm on cloud nine!

In the works

My writing and life blog.
