TACSC & Mater Dei High School – LEARN TO LEAD!

Junior High Leadership Training Day – 2/12/12 from 9:30 to 4:30

Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, has partnered with TACSC to offer “Learning to Lead” – a full leadership training day to students in grades 5, 6, and 7 who are interested in developing their leadership skills and/or are considering running for student council. Student council moderators are welcome and encouraged to attend too! The Mater Dei ASB students will serve as mentors and workshop leaders. Space is limited to 300 attendees.

LMU Float in Rose Parade

For those of you watching The Pasadena Rose Parade on January 2, 2012 at 8:00am on ABC, you have a TACSC CONNECTION to look for!

Our new educational partner LMU is celebrating their 100th Anniversary and have built a BEAUTIFUL float which will be featured in this year’s Rose Parade. The Hannon Library is at the center of the float with a large LMU Lion resting on the roof… And all of you who joined us for closing Mass in July will surely recognize the Sacred Heart Chapel and Steeple sitting at the rear of the float. And remember, all of this was done with flowers!

Thanks to Jim Hannon for the heads up. It is always great to celebrate with our partners and LMU is quickly becoming a destination for more and more TACSC events.

Get it on your calendar – save the date! Our next Student Leadership Day is scheduled for Sunday, January 29 at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. In addition to insightful workshops and worksessions for today’s student leader, we are pleased that nationally acclaimed cyberbullying/internet expert and speaker Professor Elizabeth Beyer will be presenting “Fighting Fire with Fire: Learning about the Dangers of Cyberbullying”, an interactive presentation/worksession where attendees will learn first hand how to be more responsible and constructive internet users. Parents, principals and teachers are invited to join the students for this presentation and stay for a followup 45-minute, adult-oriented worksession and question/answer period with Professor Beyer to help young people today become more conscious users of the internet. Preparing for a TACSC East Coast Student Leadership Day and Summer Conference 2012

TACSC Executive Director Gene Detre is traveling through New York, Connecticut, and Maryland this week paving the path for a February, 2012 Student Leadership Day and and 2012 Summer Leadershp Conference. Says Detre, “We have enjoyed a very solid relationship with TACSC East Coast alumni and member schools over the years and are very pleased to begin work on at least three TACSC events over the next year!” Working closely with TACSC Board Secretary and East Coaster Meghan Fay and Chris Mulligan, Gene will be leading 50 students from 9 schools at our first Student Leadership Day in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C area at St. Peter’s School in Olney, MD (The Archdiocese of Washington is allowing the participating students to attend the Monday, October 17 event). Leadership expert Dr. Obi Amachi is our featured keynote speaker. In addition to the Student Leadership Day, Gene will be meeting with over 30 East Coast staffers and enlisting the support of elementary school (St. Paul’s in New Jersey and St. Catherine’s in Connecticut) administrators, teachers, and moderators to help realize the TACSC Strategic Plan goal of expanding services and programs to the East Coast. Loyola Marymount University School of Education and Center for Catholic Education become TACSC Strategic Partners!

TACSC Board President Jim Oswald announced today that LMU School of Education and Center for Catholic Education have become “strategic partners” with TACSC! Says Oswald, “Working closely with TACSC Board VP Jim Hannon and LMU School of Education Dean Shane Martin, we have created a partnership and alliance with the School of Ed to work together in developing and offering jointly sponsored programs and activities for student leaders as well as elementary school principals, teachers, moderators, and parents.” Be on the lookout for our first LMU-sponsored Student Leadership Day in January 2012!
