There are so many reasons to be excited for this year’s event!  We have the return of the Dog Walk through Historic Easton, the fun dog show, Corporal Lee & Flex of the EPD, Delmarva Dock Dogs and much more. This year we have invited other animal welfare organizations from across the state to share the good work of what they do and find homes for their pets in need.   Our local veterinarians will be present providing much needed information on a plethora of topics.  Included topics will be pet acupuncture, nutrition and geriatric pet care to name only a few.

Yes, there will be food, shopping, micro-chip clinics, pet portraits, Rick Kollinger and his fun caricatures,  a kids tent full of fun things to do and many other neat ways to spend the day.   The most important, and wonderful part of our event is seeing our community join together in support of our mission, rejoice in our innate love of pets, and have a day of fun, fellowship and fundraising for the animals.  Rain or Shine (let’s all pray for SHINE) we hope to see you at Idlewild Park, Saturday October 15^th.  Dog walk registration at 9a, Walk at 10a, Festival to follow.

Talbot Humane is seeking  dependable, energetic, dedicated, and hard-working individuals to join our team as  Animal Care Technicians- we have a FT and PT position available.   Duties include but may not be limited to  intake processing, medicating, feeding, cleaning and monitoring health.

Strong work ethics, love of animals, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential.  Animal experience preferred. Includes weekends and holidays.   Salary dependent upon experience.

If you are in a danger zone, please plan to leave well in advance of the impending weather event. You will want to contact friends or family outside of the immediate danger area to stay.  Contact local hotels to see if they are pet friendly, or will waive their policy during an emergency.  In Easton the following hotels will accommodate pet owners- Tidewater Inn, Days Inn, Comfort Inn and Inn at 202 Dover.  These businesses ask that owners call in advance to find out their requirements.

The following animal boarding facilities are also open and able to board your pets:  Kevertin Pet Resort, Tri Crown Inn for Pets, and Top of the Bay Pet Lodge.  Please call in advance, they are filling quickly.

In the event the Social Services Shelter at Easton High School is opened, the Talbot Animal Disaster Services shelter will also open to house pets for those residing in the shelter.  Please be advised this shelter IS NOT a drop off for your pets- it is only for those residents living in the shelter.  This shelter should also be used as a means of last resort- it will be stressful for you and your pets.

When evacuating your home with pets, owners should bring the following items:

• A crate or carrier for each pet
• Medical records, a photo, veterinarians name and number, and any medication for each pet
• Food for 3 days for each pet
• Bedding, litter, cleaning supplies for each pet
• Sturdy leashes, toys and any special items needed for your pet

Pets suffer from stress during these times just like us.   The best way to protect you and your pets is to be prepared. Have a plan, and do not wait until the last minute to act.

This year, Dayniese Hurley is the recipient of the 2011 Above and Beyond Award.  Dayniese is the epitome of what it means to go that extra mile.  In her 11 years with Talbot Humane, Dayniese has always put the animals’ needs first.  Her dedication to the animals is proven by her efforts in placing many animals which otherwise would not have a second chance into rescue groups- 155 last year alone!  She works diligently to find foster homes for upwards of 200 animals annually while she herself has fostered well over 150 animals during her time at Talbot Humane.  Dayniese is always willing to help a co-worker, volunteer or member of the public, no matter how busy she may be. For all of this and more, we thank you Dayniese.

Dayniese was also named Employee of the 2nd Quarter by her co-workers for her dedication to the animals, and helpful nature with staff, volunteers and the public.  Talbot Humane feels blessed to have such a dedicated friend on our team.
