Once a month Stahly and I want to post the efforts of our readers who are embarking on their own Tale of Mega Painters project. Andy King and Rory McNeil have both joined us for the first month of reader submissions. Read on to hear what they have to say and see their great models.
As a quick little detour from Tzeentch daemons I started working on some commisisoned World Eaters. Maybe you remember the other parts of this army painted earlier. With the addition of a ton of Heresy-era stuff by Forgeworld of course this army needed some new additions. First, a third Contemptor!

One of the things I enjoy the most about the range Hobbit models is creating dynamic photos using a little bit of terrain and some mood lighting. What better way to share my recently finished Great Eagles then to set up a little treetop scene with Gandalf. More pictures after the jump.

I promise this will be the last WIP post about my Scourges, seriously ;) All good things must come to an end, and all that is left to do know with those last two models of my unit of five Scourges is to paint the green glowing eyes, the green fluid containers and the bony parts. At the same time, I'm assembling and basecoating a Venom with my airbrush. This week I'm on vacation, so I'm going to spend some time at my parents' place. As usually, I'm going to take some models with me (and my PS3 to give my younger brother a good beating in Mortal Kombat lol), so I hope not only to finish the unit of Scourges this week, but also to get some good work done on the Venom. Cheers.

Review: iBooks Codex vs Hard Copy Codex

I collect all the Warhammer 40,000 Codices. I buy them as soon as they are released. I've been really really impressed by the sixth edition hardback books. The productions values are really high with embossing and spot uv (glossy areas). It just feels nice and it helps justify the £30 price tag a little more. Read on to find out if my first iBook codex can win me over.
Okay this is a real quick one, so I will keep it short. I have had a incredibly busy week starting up a commission on a huge Ogre army. When I say huge its huge. So apologies if I have not been able to answer any questions on the comments section on TOP, but as soon as I get a minutes breath I will. I have also been working on a unit of Fire Warriors and Killa Cans. So hopefully I should have some more posts up for next week showing what I've been up to.

A slight distraction from Necrons as I tie up loose ends. I've had this Eagle on my desk for a while now. The first Great Eagle I painted I took my time and painted each of the feathers individually with tiny lines, this time round I've carefully drybrushed the model. The look is slightly different but still quite pleasing. It's gone from seven evening's of painting right down to just three evening's to paint.

Once the Great Eagle is complete (talons left to paint), I will complete my 6 Scarab bases and then I want to work on my Black Legion a bit more.

WIP: Herald of Tzeentch on Chariot

This is probably going to be one of the last of the new Tau models that I will show for a while. I am having to quickly move on to the Ogre Kingdom models that I am painting as quite a large commission. But I enjoyed painting the Tau and am quite excited about the new Eldar models that rumor has are coming next month. I also decided to stay well away from the recent High Elves release. Ummm....not my sort of thing. I painted High Elves once as a commission and vowed never to go near them again. Not that they turned out bad, it was just probably one of the most painful things to paint. And Ive come to a conclusion that if I do not enjoy painting a certain type of model I stay well clear of them. Which is quite funny as I cannot think of any other models apart from High Elves that I don't enjoy painting. Anyone else have a certain army, model etc that they refuse to paint? Or any stories in which sanity was almost lost painting something?

Hey there, Garfy scolded me for being so slow with my scourges, so I tried to ramp up and thanks to the German bank holiday on last Thursday I managed to complete scourges no. 2 and 3 (at last). How do you like them? To my excuse, on the one on the right you can see why it takes so long to finish those models - so many details and different textures: black leather/wings, purple armour, bare skin, blue hair, flayed skin, gold, bone, fluid containers, glowing eyes...

Using the momentum I also made a start on scourges no. 4 and 5. The aim I set myself for this month of "Tale of Mega Painters" is to complete my unit of scourges and to assemble and basecoat a venom, so I need to get going.

Showcase: Flamers of Tzeentch

The title is a little misleading as this actually the forth Riptide I have now painted, but the second one I have shown on Tale of Painters. Again on this one as with the other Tau I have recently painted I kept a very neutral palette of colour. I think this look is quite effective as opposed to the Bumblebee yellow. And when I finally get the chance to work on my own Death Guard army I will probably also use something similar. The last few weeks for me have been incredibly busy. I haven't so much painted many models but have been assembling a huge amount of Ogres for a commission. So hopefully in the coming week I will get some of those shown. I'm particularly excited about working on a limited edition Braugh Slavelord that was sculpted by Mark Bedford way back in 2004. What do you guys think about the colour scheme I used on the Riptide?

If you remember, I spent last week on a cruise ship as part of my job. Thankfully I had a lot of spare time to enjoy lots of fine food (you could have a five course meal for lunch and dinner without an extra charge) and free drinks. I also managed to spent a day in Amsterdam, and after some random sightseeing I happened to come around a GW store. Attracted by the nice models that were on display in the shop window, I entered and was kindly allowed to take pictures. After the jump I'd like to share with you the awesome tables and models of GW Amsterdam.
I already have Abaddon leading my Black Legion force so the plastic Chaos Lord from Dark Vengeance is redundant. Using spare parts from the plastic Chaos Space Marine Terminator Lord I've created my very own Sorcerer. I'm really happy with the how the book with the ghostly warrior bursting from it has turned out. More pics after the jump.

Continuing along with the recent Tau releases. I bring you the Broadside that I painted a few weeks ago. I think the model is a big improvement to the older version. The model is certainly bigger and as before with the other Tau models I really enjoyed working on this one. I have a lot of love for anything Tau at the moment and am still in a grey zone whether I will jump to Tau or stick with my Deathguards. What do you think?

I actually finished these last Sunday but have only just got round to uploading them. I'm really pleased with the dark tones. They don't scream Black Legion but I think there are enough visual cues to tie them to the main force. I hope to slip in another batch paint of 5 Cultists later on in the month inbetween Necron projects.

Ok,so the title is a little misleading, in fact they are Forge World's quite recently released Mechanicum Thallax Cohorts for the Horus Heresy. But after looking the models over and then thinking how bad Games Workshops Obliterators look, I figured they would make great alternatives. Which I think they really are if you put the fluff to one side. I currently play a Deathguard army and for me they fit in perfectly. So hope you like. Anyone else using them as Obliterators? Or anything else ? I'd be interested to hear.

Stahly: In this monthly section we want to recap the progress of our "Tale of Mega Painters" project, a motivational project by Garfy and me. Basically we want to push ourselves to paint up a Dark Eldar and Necron Megaforce respectively. In my case to start a new army, in Garfy's case to expand his small collection of Necrons. More about "Tale of Mega Painters" can be found in our kick-off post here. Click "more after the jump" to review all the models we painted this month.
I'm nearing completion of this speedpainted Minos army. I've got a unit of Termies, devs and assault marines remaining - and after the jump you'll see pics of 2 tactical squads (with some devs mixed in) and a few HQ elements. The scheme is designed to be quick and easy: Vallejo primer sprayed on, VMC tinny tin, a Hawk Turquoise wash, VCG Brass. Easy, quick, satisfying = win!

Hi there, in this post I want to present you proper pictures of my Raider of the kabal of the Last Hatred I painted last month. What made this model special is that it is the first airbrushed model of mine. Even though I need more practice, I'm quite satisfied with the result. The airbrushing also helped to keep the painting time low, always a plus because I hate models that take forever to finish. Find out how I used my airbrush on this model and take a look at more angles of the Raider after the jump.
Ok a little game for our fine readers. This Wolf Priest kitbash (commission) consists of 23 unique and individual componants. More pictures after the jump, can you study them and name all 23 pieces? I bet you can't!
I'm really pleased to bring you guys another Hobbit based tutorial. I had such an overwhelming response from creating a whooping 17 tutorials for the Hobbit boxed game, I really wanted to continue and paint some more Hobbit models. I absolutely love the dynamic posing of the plastic Eagles so they made a great first purchase after the boxed game. Read on for the full tutorial.
