Blekko is a different kind of search engine developed by Rick Skrenta and his team, blekko is very different with the existing search engines like Google, Bing.

To make blekko popular they didn’t just make just another search engine but brought lot of special options to users who use blekko, like api’s where in you can search for specific domain like say “gaming /talkonsomething.com” which searches about the games in TOS or “talkonsomething /twitter” which search tweets on talkonsomething.

Installation Procedure for Rails Environment on Windows

Its been a long time since i have posted on TOS . Today i decided to write an article on Setting up Rails Environment on Windows . This tutorials helps to understand where your rails environment files are located as it helps for beginners to understand the dependencies softwares and files required for the developing rails application.

Above link comes handy once you install rails environment . Following are the Steps that are involved to Install Rails Web framework

Step1 : Install ruby 1.8.6 with one click installer you can download the exe file here

File name is : rubyinstaller-1.8.6-p398-rc2.exe

Step2 : Run the exe and select all the defaults , This will install Ruby under C:\ruby
and it also install RubyGems . Automatically it will set the path . If it is not done set in the
Mycomputer ->Rightclick->Properties->Advanced->Environments . Set the path ie C:\ruby

Step3 : From the command prompt type the following command

> gem update –system

Step4: Install Rails Framework

> gem install rails –VERSION=2.3.2

Step5: Download the Mysql Server from here

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#downloads

Step6 : Install Mysql gem from the command prompt

> gem install mysql

Step7: To check rails version which is installed is right version or not from the command prompt type the following command

>rails –version

Twitter adds countdown to say bye to normal authentication for 3rd part apps

If you have developed an 3rd part app for twitter, then this post important for you to read. Twitter team announced that on June 30th they will kill the normal authentication i.e Username & Passwords and only allows you to use OAuth service.

With OAuth service there will be double the security. It is also being said that there will be new policy attached along with this.

This launch of OAuth is called as OAuthcalypse. Interesting part is that they have already added a countdown for this and you can find at http://www.countdowntooauth.com/

So next time you use a twitter app you want be asked to enter your username & password to allow the application. Just hit the button & it does the rest.
