Thiago Alcantara wants to leave Barcelona - and Manchester United will step up their pursuit of him as David Moyes looks to make a statement of intent as manager.

Thiago's release clause has dropped to £18m after he did not play the requisite number of minutes for Barcelona last season.

The talented midfielder, currently at Euro 2013 with Spain Under-21s, is desperate to play more next season with the World Cup in his mind.

And it is has emerged that Thiago has told Barcelona he wants to leave - and that is a boost to United.

New Wigan boss Owen Coyle will try to make Manchester United youngster Nick Powell his first signing as he looks to secure a loan deal for the teenage starlet.

Coyle tried to recruit the youngster when he was in charge at Bolton, before Powell opted to move to Old Trafford from Crewe last summer in a £6million deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder has now recovered from an operation that cut short his debut season and talkSPORT understands new United boss David Moyes will assess Powell during pre-season and then make a decision on his short-term future.

Manchester United target Claudio Marchisio insists his uncertain future at Juventus is not down to money.

The Italy midfielder has said he is 'proud' to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford, although there have been suggestions he is angling for a new contract on better terms but he has denied this.

"It is not for this reason [my future is unclear]. For me, it is not about money," he told Sky Italia.

United are keen on the 27-year-old and could make a move this summer. A deal could include Nani, who has been linked with a switch to Serie A.
