The Road to Recovery: Simple Ways to Get Organized

I believe there’s a fear inherent in us that we will die alone in a pile of things we bought 50 years previously. Or maybe that’s just me—and numerous characters from TV and film, not least Bridget Jones, who fears she’ll die “fat and alone, and be found three weeks later half-eaten by Alsatians.” While we can’t guarantee that getting your apartment organized will prevent you being eaten posthumously by wild dogs, it sure couldn’t hurt to try. Below are 5 tips paraphrased from the ever-clever Apartment Therapy.

Give everything a home

Sounds nice, doesn’t it? No orphan panties lying around? I’ll tell you all the same thing I told my boyfriend while he was wading knee deep in unwashed jeans, looking for a credit card: if every item has a place it belongs, you’ll know where to put it, and you’ll know where to look for it. In other words, if you keep essential forms of payment in the pocket where they were last seen, you’re in for some trouble.

Go Green 2012: How to Get Started

It’s January, and we’re going to milk this Resolution Month for all it’s worth. If you’ve been meaning to become that eco-friendly person you both admire and make snarky jokes about, this is a great time to get started. We’ve posted a number of times on simple green strategies for your apartment, so this time, we’ll suggest some good places to go for yet more information. And before we get ourselves into trouble, a disclaimer: make sure any changes are allowed on your lease or approved by your landlord.

Planet Green is a large site, but in particular suggests three ways to green your apartment without being evicted, namely sealing around windows and light fixtures, using energy-efficient bulbs and low-VOC paints, and buying blackout curtains for winter. Very simple but highly effective.

Apartment Therapy dedicates its Re-Nest division to articles on green living at home. They do things like compare space heaters, and take design and décor into consideration in their suggestions.
Want regular reminders? Low Impact Living provides a bi-weekly newsletter, such as this one about greening your apartment. This is a good resource for a quick and dirty list without too much in-depth material.

It’s a normal tradition for most families to start getting into the holiday cheer right after their Thanksgiving gathering! So is the case with, Life University’s annual light show. If you’re looking for a fun time and a story told by lights, then you will definitely want to check out the Holiday schedule of shows!

Lights of Life 2011

If you’re a native to the Marietta/Cobb area, then you may remember coming to this show a time or two! The long-running attraction comes every Holiday season, starting right around Thanksgiving and going until the new year. Stone Mountain has the laser show, but Marietta is home of the more than a million lights during the Winter!

Families can enjoy different narratives and scenes set up; stories are told with just lights! A typical night out to Life University includes the regularly scheduled show and concessions as well as petting zoos, pony rides, train rides and more for the kids on the weekend!
