So when I got the chance to read her just upcoming Male/Male historical novella, Long, Hard Ride, with the new online publisher Decadent Publishing. I read a very intriguing excerpt on Keta's website that had me wanting to read the novel as soon as possible. The story starts off where we meet Grayson Drake and he has been sent by a covert spy agency from the South to break Marx Wellbourne out of Elmira Prison at all costs. Gray has been ordered to return Wellbourne to Richmond so the Confederate Army can pick his brain about the maps he’s memorized but Gray soon discovers Marx is courting death from malaria and pneumonia.

To complicate matters further, the decadent, gorgeous Wellbourne is none other than the same man Gray coveted from afar four years ago in a Charleston brothel. And when they start their journey to Richmond things start to heat up between Gray and Marx so much that I had to fan myself cause I was getting a bit over heated myself. Gray and Marx's journey is not going as smoothly as they would have liked because they are being pursued by the villainous warden of the prison, Major Britton Darkmore. Nothing is as it seems when intrigue, suspense and raw passion collide on the long, hard ride back to Richmond. I was a little sad that this was a novella because it was such a good read that I didn't want it to end since I felt like I just got a little glimpse into the budding relationship between Gray and Marx. I love reading historical romances that are in the Civil War period and this novella, Long, Hard Ride, just hit the spot when I was looking for some good Male/Male novel to read but I never expected anything less but a good read from one my favorite authors. Keta Diablo has yet again delivered a steamy hot Male/Male story that had me wanting more even after I finished the story. I am hoping that Keta will find some time in her busy schedule to maybe write up a follow up novel about Gray and Marx because they have just captured my interest from the very start and don't seem to be letting go any time soon. I give this book 4.5 Open Books:

She contacted me about reviewing a few of her recently published eBooks as well as interviewing her on my review blog, and then J.M. at Wild Horse Press contacted me about reviewing Ashlynn's debut novel, Hidden Magic. And don't forget that on Thursday, July 29th I will be chatting live with Linda on my live podcast show TAMFA—Phoebe Jordan about her paranormal and urban fantasy novels. She also has a written interview that I posted on Tuesday, July 27th if you want to learn more about Ashlynn. Now onto Ashlynn's guest blog about her 2 currently released novels:

* * * * * *

How I wrote Passion's Escape:

I love science fiction. My very first terrible novel that I wrote as a teen was science fiction and I’ve never lost my love of writing the genre. I love the freedom of creating worlds completely out of my own imagination. I also identify with the battle that women have been fighting since time began, to find happiness in a man’s world. I wanted Passion to be just as her name described her, a woman with heart who was not afraid to use that heart. She is the strength of every woman, that’s why I dedicated the book to women everywhere. She’s the kind of woman who can take on a life or death battle of impossible odds and still be desirable and unafraid to enjoy pleasure. She’s one of my all time favorite characters to write. This is one of the stories that I wrote this year. I started it at the end of March and I had it finished by mid-April. This story was so much fun I wrote every spare moment of the day.

My first idea came to me about a woman who had to escape her planet using skills that are not typically ones a woman has, there aren’t too many female mechanics today and in the future, I’m doubtful that this will change. I wanted Passion to be smart and brave and I wanted the men in her life to arrive during her greatest conflict. They present her a better option and she takes it. I love that about her, she’s not afraid to take a gamble. I also wanted to write a book where the girl has two simultaneous lovers, I’ve never written anything like that before and I felt that Passion was just the character to try it out on.

I surprised myself. I wasn’t going to have her end up with either of the men, I wanted her just to enjoy what they had to offer her and have her fly off into the sunset a free woman. The man she ends up with really needs her so without my consent they fell in love. I have to say, my characters usual control me I wish it was the other way around sometimes but it worked out for me well this time. These two pleasantly surprised me and I’m happy with how the story ended. I think it is much more satisfying than how I would have ended it on the first day I began writing.

Passion's Escape Blurb:

Passion's Escape
by Ashlynn Monroe

In a harsh world, only the strong survive. Passion has a choice escape or be sold by her desperate father. Fortune sends two powerful men into her life. Men who have the power to free her or enslave her and who together bring her to the pinnacle of pleasure. New worlds await Passion as she discovers that sometimes the slave can become the master.

Buy Now!

How I wrote Lost Hearts:

This science fiction story didn’t immediately appeal to me as one I would write as erotic. I scraped my first chapter three times before I got it right. This story definitely wanted to be erotic, I just had to accept it and write it the way it wanted to come out. I wanted this story to have a medieval flavor but still be futuristic. I am so pleased with the result. I wanted to write a story that could have been a historical romance if you changed the places and the dates and ignored the unique religion and bondage. This was also a new experience in writing love scenes for me. I actually wrote this story last fall. I started it before I bought my notebook computer so most of it I jotted down the old-fashioned way, on paper, before it went into the computer. I really enjoyed writing it and I was so glad it found a home with Silver Publishing. The company had some very talented people and they’ve really made this story perfect. I’m so grateful for all the hard work of Alison Todd and Reese Dante. I’ve had such a positive experience with this publisher and I’m so grateful to the company for realizing my work in such a beautiful way.

I love a strong hero. I also love a flawed hero. When I read if the hero is perfect, I roll my eyes and don’t connect with the story. My heroines are not perfect either, but they usually find the good in the hero and draw it out of him. I feel that this story was one where it was a draw; the hero brings the heroine around to his way of thinking that was also a first for me. In my recent writing, I’ve been bolder and it’s been paying off.

I love to write stories where the characters fall in love while being in conflict. Maybe I’m jaded but I think that true love can’t exist without true conflict. Life isn’t rosy and happy all the time and if I read a book without conflict, I can’t connect with the characters. Even though I write about fantastic lands, the humanity of my characters is realistic. My characters are contemporary in their realism even if the story is set in imagined worlds. I enjoyed Laurel she represents the need to be your best. I love in the end she choose her heart over being perfect.

Lost Hearts Blurb:

Lost Hearts
by Ashlynn Monroe

When a sensual dream lover becomes reality for a sheltered princess, her dream becomes a nightmare. Stolen from her groom at her bond mating ceremony that would have linked her to a man she does not love telepathically for the rest of her life she is faced with the man that she thought was nothing but imagination. The reality that he is the kind of alpha male warrior that she is not prepared to understand from a world that is frightening and foreign to her makes her doubt the love she feels for him. Duty to her people battles the love she has for her warrior in a battle that is fought in her heart. Her innocent body burns for him but her mind tells her that he is all wrong for her and for her people. When he dominates her body, she realizes that he has already dominated her heart. If she can fully accept him as her mate only then will she have the happiness that she deserves.

She contacted me about reviewing a few of her recently published eBooks as well as interviewing her on my review blog, and then J.M. at Wild Horse Press contacted me about reviewing Ashlynn's debut novel, Hidden Magic. And don't forget that on Thursday, July 29th I will be chatting live with Linda on my live podcast show TAMFA—Phoebe Jordan about her paranormal and urban fantasy novels and also she will be guest blogging about her current release here on the review blog. Now onto my interview with Ashlynn:

Phoebe Jordan: When did you know that writing romance was going to be the thing that you would do with your life? Which author inspired you to start writing romance?

Ashlynn Monroe: I started writing when I was thirteen. My cousins encouraged me (even if that first novel was awful) and I kept writing. I’ve written stories as a hobby since that time. When I turned thirty, I made a promise to myself actually to submit some of the stories for publication. Wild Horse Press was the first publisher that contacted me. Since February of this year, I’ve been writing like crazy and I’m currently contacted with six publishers and one magazine. My paternal grandmother gave me garbage bags full of romance novels in the summer and that was the root of my love for romance. I was reading them long before I should’ve.

Phoebe: Did you know what type of romance you wanted to write about or did you experiment with different genres before you chose the one that you felt was for you?

Ashlynn: I am not genre bias…I write everything! I have contracts out there for urban fantasy, dark romance, paranormal romance, science fiction romance, and contemporary romance. I even have a steam punk romance that is currently looking for a home.

Phoebe: What was the first fiction you ever wrote? And do you still have it with you?

Ashlynn: I sadly did not keep my first novel it was titled Arianna’s Circle and sadly, I can describe it as the blue lagoon meets star wars. My cousin drew me a cover for it for my fourteenth birthday, and I still have her lovely framed art, but I actually threw out all my teenage work about five years ago during some frantic spring-cleaning when I was pregnant with my youngest child.

Phoebe: How much research do you have to do for your novels and does it take you a long time to gather that research?

Ashlynn: It depends on the novel. I research places, if I’m writing about states or cities that I’ve never been to. I did a lot of research for my Templar vampire series, contracted by Keith Publications. I have a steam punk romance that is looking for a home. My steam punk romance as it takes place during the civil war. I also researched into the workings of steam engines and double-checked my historical facts about the civil war.

Phoebe: How did you come up with the concept for your currently released novel, Passion’s Escape?

Passion's Escape
by Ashlynn Monroe

Ashlynn: I wanted to write about a strong woman who was fighting for her place in a man’s world. I also knew I wanted it to be science fiction. I knew I wanted to write a story were my heroine experiences the love of two men. My opening scene where she is frantically working on her only hope of escape, an antiquated spacecraft, was the way the story started and it all built on her self-reliant plucky nature.

Phoebe: How did you come up with the concept for your just released novel, Lost Hearts?

Ashlynn: This is another science fiction erotic piece. I wanted to write something with a medieval flare, but set in the distant future. The wedding scene where Laurel, the heroine, has her wedding interrupted, was the first scene I saw in my head before I started to write.

Phoebe: How do you come up with each of your characters for your novels? How do you choose their names out of so many names out there?

Ashlynn: I have several name books next to the computer. I chose names that I think fit the character’s personality or describe the character in the meaning of the name. Then the character usually takes over and I am helpless but to transcribe their actions. I always choose names that look good in print and sound good when read aloud.

Phoebe: Do you have a favorite character that you really enjoyed writing about in your currently released novel, Passion’s Escape? Did you have a character that you felt you could really relate to in your currently released novel, Passion’s Escape?

Ashlynn: I loved writing Passion (my heroin’s name is Passion). She was brave but smart enough to know when to bend without breaking. I can relate to a woman trying to make her way in a man’s world, as I’m sure most working women can. I enjoyed writing Dragon actually the most, because I loved seeing his progression from spoiled heir to a man who cared about others…because of the direction of a good woman! Passion really teaches Dragon how to be a good man

Phoebe: Do you have a favorite character that you really enjoyed writing about in your just released novel, Lost Hearts? Did you have a character that you felt you could really relate to in your just released novel, Lost Hearts?

Ashlynn: I enjoyed writing Laurel; she’s my inner nature child. I love her people’s view of nature and the importance of keeping a balance from how we use our environment. I enjoyed writing the love scenes in this story and the telepathic bond between them.

Phoebe: Do you have a process of how you start to write your novels?

Ashlynn: I am a very random person. My imagination is also random that is probably why I don’t stick to a single genre. I write whatever pops into my head. I’ll play around with an idea for a few weeks and then I’ll start writing. Sometimes I only get a few pages in before I jump away. I have a flash drive full of works-in-progress and I will work on them randomly until one of them catches my heart and holds it.

Phoebe: Have you ever considered writing a series or are writing stand-alone novels your preference? How would writing each be different for you?

Ashlynn: I am writing a series for Keith Publications. My series is a fun concept that I feel will be well received. It is about a group of cursed Templar Knights who have lived for centuries as vampires. The central theme is redemption and I love my tormented hotties. I am hoping to do ten 10-20k shorts. I am almost finished with the second book the first is currently in the editing process.

Phoebe: What process did you have to go through to get your first book published and did it take you long?

Ashlynn: I have been writing for years and I had a bunch of work on my computer. This year I really wanted to share my work with others and I took getting published seriously. I researched publishers on line and realized how exciting the electronic publishing market is. The massive opportunity inspired me to submit. I chose Wild Horse Press because I like the descriptions of the work they were selling and I liked the website. The wonderful publisher J. Marie Smith contacted me in a very short time and contract Hidden Magic. It released in June of this year. I was contracted in March so it took about three months. I started to clean up and send off the rest of my files and I have been contracted with six publishers at this time.

Phoebe: Do you ever get writers block? What do you do to get rid of it so you can get back to writing your novels?

Lost Hearts
by Ashlynn Monroe

Ashlynn: I always have enough works in progress to stave off writers block. I have writers jumble but never writers block. Occasional I’ll start typing and realize I’m working with the wrong characters lol!

Phoebe: What is your biggest reader pet peeve, if you have any? (stock characters, unresolved endings, predictability, everything wrapped up hurriedly in the end, etc.)

Ashlynn: I hate a predictable story. I hope that none of mine is predictable; I try to throw out a twist to throw off the reader and keep them interested. If I read, a story that feels like someone just filled in the blank (a book should never read like a mad lib), I always get frustrated and I’m not likely to read the author’s next book.

Phoebe: Which aspects of writing do you enjoy the most and why? And what is your biggest writing pet peeve? (overuse of exclamation points, adverbs, bad guys named Wayne, etc.), if you have any?

Ashlynn: I hate a hero, who is flawless, real men have flaws. If he’s too perfect, you can’t imagine him stepping off the page. I had an editor ask me for a rewrite once because my hero was so flawed. I did make him more redeemable, and it really improved the story, but I’ve never written a hero that was perfect.

Phoebe: What is the one writing tool can you not live without?

Ashlynn: Wikipedia is my hero!

Phoebe: How do you handle your writing schedule and your personal life without going insane?

Ashlynn: I work full time and have a long commute. I’m married with two elementary school aged kids, so time is something I never ever have enough of in a day. I write on my lunch breaks at work (thank God for my notebook computer). I write at night. Sleep is what I sacrifice to write.

Phoebe: What do you do to relax after having spent a long while writing? Do you have any hobbies?

Ashlynn: I’m going to sound lame but writing is my hobby. It’s the most relaxing thing I do all day. I do take a break to watch True Blood, then right back to work!

Phoebe: Is there any advice that you would give to an aspiring romance writer that you wish someone had given you?

Ashlynn: Market yourself from the beginning. Blog, have a website, do interviews, and connect with readers. Make sure that both your work and your personality get exposure. Research publishers and the market; go to the absolutely write water cooler, Predators and Editors, and Google publisher names for more information. Don’t let rejection stop you from writing. Keep trying; I have twice the number of rejections as I have contracts. Three companies might turn away apiece but a fourth might love it!

Phoebe: Is there any writing tips, research tips, promotion and marketing tips that you would give to an aspiring romance writer that you wish someone had given you?

Ashlynn: I have been so lucky! My publishers have been upfront with promotional information and I have made wonderful Facebook connections. I’ve had some great advice from other writers. I’ve even had the opportunity to get advice from some of my own favorite authors…talk about standing in the shadow of the gods. I was so overwhelmed!

Phoebe: Do you have a favorite genre you like to read? Who is your favorite author(s)?

Ashlynn: I love paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Yet strangely, my favorite to write is science fiction romance. Sherrilyn Kenyon and Christine Feehan are my all time favorite authors, but I also love Alyssa Day and Dara Joy too.

Phoebe: What are you reading now? And what do you plan to read after that?

Since I finally got my own domain name I set up Phoebe Jordan's Reviews on that domain name and have variously different important and informational pages up that you all might enjoy visiting. For example I have the Featured Author and Book pages that I have finally finished putting up for everyone to check out as soon as possible. There is the general Featured Author and Book where you will find 8 different featured authors and their current releases every month or so. I also have 4 different sub-pages for Featured Author and Book in Erotic Romance, Historical Romance, Paranormal Romance and Young Adult which are genres that I enjoy reading and wanted to share with others about the some authors that may or may not be new to them. If you are a romance of any sub-genre, erotic romance or young adult author and want to be featured along with your current release, Contact Me, with the appropriate information, which is your author bio and your current book title, author name, word count/page number, genre, publisher, format (print or e-book), ISBN/Price and blurb of your novel no less than 2 to 3 paragraphs.

Blurb

After dumping her boyfriend during her birthday ski weekend, Kayla runs to the two men she can count on, her best friends, Jesse and Chris. Reckless and hurt, she throws caution to the wind and confesses her deepest fantasy—to be with two men at once.

Jesse and Chris have shared women before, but Kayla is not like other women. She knows them better than they know themselves. But what she doesn’t know is that Jesse has a forbidden fantasy of his own. When she discovers it, she encourages Jesse to go after what he wants with Chris in the bedroom, opening a whole new world to the three of them.

In love with Kayla for as long as he can remember, Chris is excited to finally have her, but he never expected to desire both of his friends. He’s straight. How the hell can he want Jesse as well? With everything changing, can these friends move beyond what they’ve known and find a way to build on the newfound love between them?

The second book in Tawny Taylor's popular Masters of Sin series is available now in ebook formats.

Troi and Amun—one dominant, the other submissive, both alpha—are possessed by the spirit of Lust. Its dark demands have tested their will every minute of every day for centuries. And they’ve committed deviant, selfish acts to satisfy its unrelenting carnal hunger. But the guilt doesn’t overwhelm them until they meet Oriel. She is their salvation, their peace. They need her. But they don’t deserve her.

Life’s lessons have taught Oriel not to trust anyone, especially gorgeous men who will use anyone for their own satisfaction. Granted, they’re sexy. Charming. Her body responds to their every look and touch. But she can’t—won't—take a chance on them. Until she realizes she can run away, but she can’t escape from the emotions they stir.

As darkness closes in, Troi and Amun’s lives, and souls, hang in the balance. The beast will consume them if Oriel can’t accept her own dark needs and trust the two men who have stirred the decadent desires within her.

Note: This book contains same-gender sex, group sex, and various and sundry other deliciously wicked acts, committed by two very naughty boys.

Read an excerpt. I know I haven't posted much though I have created posts that I wanted to put up for everyone to enjoy but kind of left them half done. I've been pretty busy since I got a part-time job at my local Modell's Sporting Goods store that is luckily only 15 minutes away from my apartment in the beginning of June. It only now that I've gotten less days of work so I decided to post about it today so that you all wouldn't think that I completely abandoned my review blog because I haven't. I have gotten some new eBooks as well as some print books that I'm going to be posting reviews for very soon though you have to be patient with me since I'm only one person and writing reviews is not always easy.

I'm planning to try and take some of my free time so I can catch up on all those half written blog posts and reviews that I've been meaning to get up here on the blog. I'm also very excited about my author website which I started in March of 2010 and it's completely set up now with all the information about the novels that I'm currently working on which is 1 Paranormal Romance, 1 Contemporary Romance and a Young Adult Paranormal Romance. They aren't finished yet and will need a lot of work but I hope to have them completed as soon as I can though with everything going on I'm not sure when that will be but I will keep you all posted on it. Don't forget that I also have my other websites up and running that you can find on the menu bar under the header of the website.

I was going to meet up with Tori the Book Faery at 9AM so that we could get to the Press Registration together and then hang out until we would go our separate ways since we have different tastes. I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted to since I was just so overwhelmed with how big the place was and how many people there was at BEA. I didn't actually have my entire day planned out like Tori did so I didn't get to see everything that I wanted too but I hope that next year I will plan things much better now that I know somewhat the layout and the chaos of the place. So after leaving my apartment in Queens at around 7:30AM I took the E train to 34th Street Penn Station and I had to walk 5 to 6 blocks in a straight line before I finally found the Javits Center. I didn't know exactly where it was since like I said I never been there but I walked straight from 8th Avenue on 34th Street all the way to 11th Avenue and I finally found the very big Javits Center. There were so many people there that I had to stop in the very hot sun for about 5 minutes to figure out that I was in the right place as well to take out my cell phone so that I can see if Tori was on her way.

Tori took a taxi to the Javits Center which I thought was very smart of her since I was practically dying of heat from my long walk to the Center not 20 minutes before we finally met in person in front of the Center. We walked in and I was so happy but shocked at how many people were actually there for BEA and when we finally found the Press Registration we got everything settled. I then followed Tori to her first autograph signing since I was a bit early for my planed signing which was at 10AM. So I got in line with Tori to get a signed copy of Jekel Loves Hyde by Beth Fantaskey at around 9:30AM give or take several minutes waiting on the line. I had my camera with me but doofus that I was didn't take the wonderful author's picture when I had the chance so I could post it here. After we left with our signed copies we wandered around while we waited for our next scheduled signing which was fun since we stopped by the Penguin Group USA booth and got some cool little bags to take with us. We actually talked with romance author Sophie Jordan and didn't know it until she introduced herself and Tori recognized her name which was pretty cool.

Gena Showalter (Middle)

After that we went our separate way with the intention of meeting up again a bit later so I went to wait on line to get an autographed copy of Linda Lael Miller's just released novel, The McKettricks of Texas: Garret, which I was so happy to get signed by her because I love her and her books which I have made my mission to collect all of them. After I got her book signed I went immediately to Susan Mallery's line to get an Advanced Readers Copy of her upcoming novel, Almost Perfect, which is the second book in her Fool's Gold series. I couldn't believe I was actually meeting her since I've read several of her books and even reviewed for Manic Readers the first 3 books of her Lone Star Sisters series. When I left Susan Mallery's table I went to meet up with Tori at the HarperCollins booth and we walked around a bit to kill some time until the next signing which would be the Harlequin YA Paranormal at the Harlequin booth signing which had Gena Showalter, Rachel Vincent, Maria Snyder and one more author I can't remember the name of right now. I waited on Gena Showalter's line first to get an signed copy of her YA novel Intertwined which I was happy to get since I've been meaning to buy a copy but never did. Now this time I actually took a picture of Gena after she signed my copy of her book and I asked her permission first since you never know some authors might not want their pictures taken.

Rachel Vincent (Middle)

Now after I stood in line for Gena I made the heroic decision to get on the large line of Rachel Vincent. There were so many people there that it was getting a bit warm after a long while even though I'm sure the entire place is air conditioned. It took a while but I finally got Rachel Vincent to sign a copy of her latest YA release, My Soul to Keep, which is the 3rd book in her wonderful Soul Screamers series. I love this series and I was very excited to meet her in person as well as get a signed copy of her novel since I've been anxiously waiting for it's release since I finished reading the prevoius book in the series. I was also lucky enough to remember to ask her if I could take a picture of her after she signed my copy and I think she is such a wonderful lady after chatting with her for about 2 minutes since there were so many people behind me waiting for their turn. I was going to go on Maria Snyder's line to get a signed copy of her YA novel Inside Out but there were just too many people that I knew I would never get a copy so I left Tori to take a break in the Press Room. By that time it was already past 12PM and my feet were killing me as well as my shoulders since I brought my backpack to carry my lunch. I made several tuna fish sandwichs that I made that morning with 2 bottles of ice water that I had put in the freezer the night before. I walked around when I felt that I wouldn't collapse and I found some other pretty cool booths on my walk though I was not like the other people who would stop at a booth and pick up any of the books they wanted to. I actually took another break at the Harlequin Spain section, which was pretty large, because they had such wonderful chairs and tables that people weren't using at the time. I ate part of my lunch there while I waited for the next signing hour which was at 1PM in the Harlequin booth.

When I finished my lunch I read a bit to kill some time so when I saw that they were preparing for the Kimani Press signing. I found that Gwynne Forster was going to be there signing so because I interviewed her during the Romantic Times BOOKlovers convention I had to meet her and get an signed copy of her book. I was about the first person on the line and I got Gwynne Forster to sign a copy of her novel Yes, I Do then I saw that Brenda Jackson's line wasn't that long so I went and I got her to sign a copy of her novel Hidden Pleasures. After I finished that I went back to the table and chair I was sitting at before so that I can relax one more time before I went to the Romance Writer's of America booth to go to Elizabeth Scott's signing which I was looking forward to meeting and her her book. I found out about Elizabeth Scott and her book from the wonderful website Free Book Friday Teens that is run by Jessica Brody. I was really tired by this time so when I got on the line to get a signed copy of Elizabeth Scott's current novel Unwritten Rule I went to the Press Room one more time to sit down for a bit. I planned to wait until 3PM since Richelle Mead and Simone Elkeles were supposed to be at the Autographing section signing their books Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy series, Book 5) and Return to Paradise. I was also planning to wait again for 4PM when Melissa Marr and Cecily Von Ziegesar were supposed to be at the Autographing section signing their books Radiant Shadows and Cum Laude. I didn't wait until 3PM because I was so exhausted that I knew I couldn't go on any longer without dying from exhaustion after standing and walking for about 6 hours straight. So I left the Javits Center by myself and starting my very long walk to the 34th Street Penn Station subway entrance that like I said was about 5 to 6 block away. I should also mention that at the time it was super hot outside so since I have ashma I had to stop ever 5 to 10 minutes and drop my large bag of books so I could rest for a bit. It took me a long time to get to the subway station but when I did I was so happy because I wanted to get home as soon as possible. I had such a wonderful time even though I had to take a long cold shower and sleep like the dead after I finished writing this blog post. I'm now not all that sure I want to go tomorrow but in the end I probably will because I can't pass up another day where I will get to meet some of my favorite authors who will be signing their books for me for FREE. So watch out for tomorrow's post which I will hopefully have more pictures for you all to enjoy.

Book Expo of America!

Hello everyone! Today is the first day of BookExpo America that is being hosted at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. This is the first year I'm going to be at the BEA since I didn't know about it until a few months ago by my friend, Terry Kate, creator of Romance in the Backseat. I was going to go with her but since she couldn't make it back to NYC from LA this week I had to find someone else that I could meet up with. So I am going to go tomorrow with Tori, creator of the Book Faery book blog since we are both from NYC and have registered as Press to go. I'm going to be taking my Dell Mini-Inspiron 10 with me tomorrow as well as my mom's digital camera so that I can take pictures as well as videos of my time there. I will be posting them as I get them so that you all can experience it with me as I got through the various booth's that will be there. I plan to meet Cathy Maxwell, Linda Lael Miller, Alison Kent, Rachel Vincent and various other authors who are going to be at their publishers booths as well as the authors autograph signings. I'm so looking forward to tomorrow!

Damn the rules, damn the gods…even if he has to share her, she belongs to him.

Wasteland, Book 4

High Priestess Xian has followed the Path of the Peaceful Sun since she was chosen at birth. Yet the joy she receives from helping others is overshadowed by her growing belief that the world they live in is…wrong.

At a crossroads, unsure of her ability to do her job—unsure of anything—she journeys to the ruins of the old city, hoping to uncover secrets that will give her clarity. Instead she finds the path to her goal clouded by an unexpected desire for her handsome guard, Hel, and for the battered stranger they find along the way.

Hel can’t prevent Xian from reaching out to the mysterious Siraj, but there is danger in allowing him to stay. Siraj belongs to no caste, follows no rules but his own. And Xian’s fascination with him makes Hel’s blood boil. No one can know that Hel has always loved her, or the secret he’s kept hidden for years. But Siraj’s advances and Xian’s curiosity force Hel to cross lines he never before dared…

Warnings:

The word of the day is Voyeurism. Oh, and explicit sex with two men and one previously repressed High Priestess. Bi ménage, anal sex, oral sex, kissing, licking, rimming, author blushing …so you know it must be good.

Nancy's Theory of Style

Today I'm reviewing Grace Cooopersmith's debut novel Nancy's Theory of Style that I got a review copy of. If you have read Marta Acosta's Casa Dracula series you have met Nancy Carrington-Chambers since she is friends with Milagro de los Santos. I have anxiously been waiting for this release every since I interviewed Marta Acosta on my live podcast show, TAMFA | Phoebe Jordan, in September 2009 and she gave me a bit of the details to this novel as well as the 4th Casa Dracula book. We only got a glimpse of the lively, pretty young socialite Nancy Carrington-Chambers in the Casa Dracula series but in the start of this novel we start to get a bigger picture of what she is like. Nancy has always believed that an excellent sense of style and strict attention to detail are what it takes to achieve a perfectly chic life. Nancy is a woman of certain tastes and has lived a very privilaged life though has never really received any emotional comfort from her parents throughout her entire life. After she leaves her husband who has turned their McMansion into an unlivable place she’s determined to make her event planning company, Froth, a real winner, but her new prize assignment—reinventing the turgid Barbary Coast Historical Museum fundraiser—must be spectacular in every way. Luckily, Nancy now has the perfect assistant (which her husband sent her way) named Derek Cathcart who is British, impeccably dressed, gorgeous, and clearly gay—so why does Nancy find him so attractive?

Well to figure that out you would have to read the book which takes many twists and turns that I never really expected which is fun for us readers. Now before Nancy can unravel her feelings for Derek, her irresponsible cousin Birdie abandons her four-year-old daughter at Nancy’s and takes off to parts unknown. Now this is where things get really insteresting for Nancy, Derek, and little Eugenia because they make an unlikely “family,” but strangely it all seems incredibly right. Nancy’s parents are pressuring her to return to Todd, however, and she still has to pull off the party of the year. For someone who has always prided herself on knowing exactly where she is going, Nancy is sailing into dangerously uncharted waters that could take her anywhere. At times I wanted to give up on this novel because the things Nancy did would just get me a bit pissed off at her but then out of nowhere she would make me laugh. I have mixed feelings about this book after I finished reading it since it's not what I normally read but I always like trying new things so I gave it a try. I don't regret picking it up and reading it because it sure made me think because Nancy is so different from any of the other heroine characters I've ever read. I was very surprised but extremely happy with how the story ended and it also had me wondering if this would actually have a sequel novel that might be coming out in the future because it ended in such a way that it cold. Grace Coopersmith delivers a wonderfully funny as well as intriguing debut novel that had me giggling at times and also had me frustrated with the heroine Nancy Carrington-Chambers who is a unique character that I couldn't help but fall in love with. I am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for any of Grace Coopersmith's upcoming novels because she already has me intrigued with her debut novel and makes me wonder what else she may have in the works. I give this book 4 Open Books:

NANCY'S THEORY OF STYLE by Grace Coopersmith $15.00 (362 Pages)

Now, however, her own haute couture marriage is starting to resemble a clearance rack, as husband Todd manifests more and more symptoms of a dread disease—incurable tackiness. Seriously concerned, Nancy flees their vulgar McMansion for an apartment in San Francisco’s posh Pacific Heights. She’s determined to make her event planning company, Froth, a real winner, but her new prize assignment—reinventing the turgid Barbary Coast Historical Museum fundraiser—must be spectacular in every way. Luckily, Nancy now has the perfect assistant. Derek Cathcart is British, impeccably dressed, gorgeous, and clearly gay—so why does Nancy find him so attractive?

For someone who has always prided herself on knowing exactly where she is going, Nancy is sailing into dangerously uncharted waters.

Wasteland: The Breeder

Eden Bradley's story in the Smutketeers' Wasteland anthology, Book Three: The Breeder, is out now! Buy it now at MBAM or on Amazon!

In 2012, the world came to a grinding halt as radiation hit from a massive solar storm. Crops died, animals perished, cities fell and humans became little more than beasts themselves. Under the threat of starvation, civility was reduced to mere memory. Only the strongest men survived, and physically weaker women and children wasted to nothingness.

More than a century later, humanity struggles in the desert Wasteland that was left. The solar radiation rendered most women infertile, and the population dwindles more with each year that passes. Scattered up and down coasts, isolated cities eke out an existence from fishing, foraging and hunting for what little game remains. Outside the city walls, men face the threat of pirates and raiders.

Few women remain, divided into four classes—Wanderers, Whores, Breeders and Priestesses. They are as reviled as they are worshiped, a commodity any man must pay to touch.

There is only one rule in the Wasteland—survive.

Book One: THE WANDERER — Crystal Jordan, May 4, 2010

Book Two: THE WHORE — Lilli Feisty, May 11, 2010

Book Three: THE BREEDER — Eden Bradley, May 18, 2010

Book Four: THE PRIESTESS — R.G. Alexander, May 25, 2010

THE BREEDER, Book Three in the Wasteland Series

Destined to serve the desires of an entire city, all she wants is one man. Or maybe two…

Wasteland, Book 3

Born to the Temple, Nitara knows the Great Goddess’s plan for her: to bring life into what is left of an arid and wasted Earth. Since puberty she has been trained to arouse and titillate, to ensure the continuation of the human race. As is the custom, the man captured for her is strong of blood, though considered little more than a wild animal. Yet when she looks into his eyes, she sees no primitive creature, but the man whose face and hands haunt her sensual dreams. For Akaash, a hunter and warrior, it’s his shame that he will be sacrificed to a goddess he doesn’t believe in, for a people who are not his own, leaving behind his Wanderer clan—and his bonded lover, Dhatri. Locked in the bowels of the Temple, he has a month to ponder his fate, all while falling helplessly under the spell of the virgin temptress who will soon take his life. With each tortuously erotic encounter, however, Akaash realizes that Nitara is as much a prisoner as he. If he can just get a message out to Dhatri, there may be a slim chance both of them can escape…

* * *

But these worlds these authors create are filled with all these paranormal creatures that we only think is myth but are totally real in paranormal romances. I know that author Jessica Coulter Smith loves to read paranormal romances so when she writes paranormal romances are what she ends up creating. I had the pleasure of hosting her guest blog about her release Moonlight Protector, which is the first book of her paranormal Ashton Grove Werewolves series and I also reviewed it as well. I also had the pleasure of interviewing her as well if you want to find out more about Jessica's writing and about some of her hobbies and favorite authors. I reviewed her second and third book in her series fabulous series called Moonlight Hero and Moonlight Guardian for both Jessica and her publisher Wild Horse Press and what a nice read that was for me. I also had the pleasure of reviewing the sort of prequel to her Ashton Grove Werewolves series that was previously published by another online publisher but was re-issued with Wild Horse Press called, Whispering Lake.

Well today I'm reviewing Jessica's May 25th release novel, Moonlight Champion, the fourth book in her Ashton Grove Werewolves series, which I was lucky enough to receive an advanced review copy from Wild Horse Press a few days ago. I love Jessica's novels and was happy that they sent me a copy to review because I've read the blurb for this novel a while back before it was given an official released date on Jessica's website. Since reading the first book in her wonderfully written Ashton Grove Werewolves series I have been anxiously waiting for the next book in the series to be published as soon as possible because I am officially addicted! Now we all have read about the three Andrews brothers, Cole, Gabriel and Michael finding their mates and having their happily ever after though they had some trouble along the way. But now it's their cousin Conner Tierney's turn to find his mate and have his happily ever after.

Now the last thing Connor expected was to have his mate dumped in his lap—literally! After a hard day at work, Connor is relaxing when Aislinn Walsh materializes in a ray of light on his lap. Seeing at once that she's injured, he does all he can to help her but he finds out later that Aislinn has been married to an abusive husband for the past year. When she finds out she's in Aston Grove, she finds it unbelievable because in her reality this town and it's inhabitants were part of the paranormal romance novels that she would read to escape her marriage. Even more unbelievable is the handsome man taking care of her and she can't believe that he is claiming to be her mate and she begins to wonder if she dares trust him with her heart. She's been waiting a long time for a knight in shining armor and little did she realize it would be a knight in furry armor!

So I finished reading this book in about less than a day since I got it and while I was reading it I found that is was totally different from the last book. It was such run to read about Connor and his mate because we meet a few new characters that I just fell in love with immediately. I can't wait for Jessica to continue writing the series because I'm hoping that we will be reading more about them soon since I think they have more to tell us. I have to say that Connor and Aislinn are a really wonderful pair that had a difficult obstacle to go over in order to find their HEA like the Andrews brothers but it was worth it going through them. Jessica Coulter Smith has yet again written another wonderful paranormal tale that kept me flipping the vitural pages to find out how things would end up for Connor and Aislinn as well as left me wanting the next book to be out already. Jessica's Ashton Grove Werewolves series is a must read because if you haven't read them all you have been missing a wonderful paranormal series that will keep you guessing as well as wanting more about this wolf pack that will capture your heart. I've also got to mentioned that I got a sneak peek into the 5th and next book in the series called, Moonlight Savior, which is the story of one of the Connor Tierney's twin brother Colin Tierney and his mate. Now I really can't wait to get my hands on a copy of it but I have to wait since it's not going to be released until Spring 2011. I give this book 4.5 Open Books:

So when I got the chance to read her just released Male/Male contemporary short story, Hot and Sticky, with Amber Quill | Amber Allure. I read a very intriguing excerpt on Keta's website that had me wanting to read the novel as soon as possible. The story starts off where we meet Hugh Landon, an up and coming lawyer in Washington, D.C., who is in big trouble because when his career hangs in the balance over a missing file, Hugh must call his paralegal, Milan Vassar at the midnight hour and plead for assistance. Hugh has been having trouble controling his sexual fantasies about Milan ever since he started workign with him 8 months ago and being with him at that late of an hour pushes him to the edge.

Hugh’s determination not to mix business with pleasure disintegrates when Milan arrives at the office not only to help him, but to confess he’s held the same secret desires for his boss. That's when things start to heat up between Hugh and Milan so much that I had to fan myself cause I was getting a bit over heated myself. I was a little sad that this was a short story because it was such a good read that I didn't want it to end since I felt like I just got a little glimpse into the budding relationship between Hugh and Milan. Keta Diablo has yet again delivered a steamy hot Male/Male story that had me wanting more even after I finished the story. I was also excited to have learned that this is only just the beginning for Hugh and Milan since there will be a sequel coming out soon for everyone to read about what happens next for these two wonderful men. I give this book 4.5 Open Books:

Here is the description of the book from Keta's website:

HOT AND STICKY by Keta Diablo (37 Pages)

When his career hangs in the balance over a missing file, Hugh must call Milan at the midnight hour and plead for assistance. Hugh’s determination not to mix business with pleasure disintegrates when Milan arrives at the office not only to help him, but to confess he’s held the same secret desires for his boss.

R.F.

“No question about it, Soul Fire is monumentally thrilling and exotic. I couldn’t put the book down. A rare treat for me, I devoured this story from beginning to end in one sitting and I want more! ... An out of this world paranormal romance/fantasy story that will have readers clamoring for more, Soul Fire is one hot read I will be recommending to all of my friends.”

"In Soul Fire, R. F. Long has created an intriguing world of light and dark magic. Of intense action and hot love. From the opening scene, she drew me in. Captivated me. She’s taken an age old tale of good versus evil and has freshened it up with unique characters...I recommend R. F. Long’s Soul Fire. It made me smile and love and not want to put the book down."

"A great fast read, like a snowball rolling and constantly gaining momentum."

“Let me start by saying “wow!”…R.F. Long has the amazing ability to drag her readers into the story and carry them along for the ride. The characters were unique and out of this world, yet they seemed like someone you could get along with and have fun with… If you want to read something mind-blowing and incredible then I would recommend you read this story.”

Iron born and iron bred.

Trust not iron, it will see you dead.

Rowan Blake could really use a magic wand to keep her struggling art gallery afloat. But the faerie key she stumbles across is far from a lucky charm. It’s a magnet for danger, and by touching it she’s unwittingly put herself in the middle of a war between the forces of light and dark. And in the arms of its rightful owner, Prince Daire.

While searching for his brother, Daire finds himself trapped in the Iron World with a mere mortal woman who ignites his passion like no other. Each stolen kiss deepens their attraction and sends him spiraling closer and closer to the edge of his inherent dark desires. Desires that act as a homing beacon for the Dark Sidhe, who are intent on forcing him to fight on their side.

The longer he lingers in her arms—and in her bed—the closer his enemies get to her door. And the greater the risk that the gateway to the Faerie Realm will shift, destroying not only his power to protect her, but his very life.

Warning: Contains enchantments, danger, some very scary monsters, a trip to the dark side and hot, soul-transforming sex with an immortal prince.

Read An Excerpt Online

Buy from MBaM!, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com

Love is the most dangerous experiment of all.

There is only one rule in the Wasteland: survive.

The few remaining women are as reviled as they are worshipped, a commodity any man must pay to touch. And to touch a Wanderer, he may pay with his life.

For Ezra, the risk is worth the reward. People speak his name with the same reverent terror reserved for ancient wrathful gods, but he must always be ready to fend off those who would take what’s his. And what he wants to be his is Kadira.

Kadira, adopted after she witnessed the slaughter of her devoted parents, has vowed never to love or need anyone. It seems only fitting that she, an outsider, accept Ezra’s demand in trade for the fuel technology her clan needs—but her deep, unexpected need for him is the torture she’s fought all her life to avoid. Worse, the greater her wrath, the more he seems to like it.

Ezra’s mercenary half delights at having the warrior woman in his arms. His scientist half can’t resist the urge to see what makes her react—and what makes her explode.

The real experiment: if the bond they forge is strong enough to make her want to stay.

Warning: Threesomes, foursomes, boy on boy, girl on girl, boy on boy on girl, voyeurism, exhibitionism, sex at knifepoint, anal sex, ritual orgies, and, well…it’s just a really dirty book.

Buy it here!

RT BOOKlovers Convention

I had such a blast this past week interviewing several different romance authors who attended Romantic Times BOOKlovers Convention this year. I got to interview Lauren Dane, MaryJanice Davidson and Lori Foster which was amazing because I have read several of their books which was wonderful to talk about them with the authors. I hope that next year I will get to interview them again as well as other different romance authors who will be attending the convention that I have yet to interview on my podcast show. I am also looking forward to when the Romantic Times BOOKlovers Convention comes to New York City because I don't have the money to travel at the moment.

So I'm writing today because I need some help with trying to keep my blog active enough so that I don't lose the readers that I've have gotten since I opened my blog 2 years ago. So I'm looking for romance and young adult authors who would like to be interviewed on my blog and also guest blog about their books as well. I also am looking for anyone who happens to review books and wouldn't mind submitting a couple of their book reviews so I can post here with a link either to the original review you posted on your blog or a totally new review that you wouldn't mind me posting and linking back to your blog or website. I really appreciate anyone who can help me out and for my loyal readers who have stayed with me even though I've been a very bad blogger that hasn't kept her content updated regularly.

Today I will be reviewing Linda Palmer's paranormal young adult called, My-Wolf, which is the first book of her Wolf of My Heart series and I was happy to get a copy to review. The heroine of the novel, Andee Rivera, has no idea what she's getting into when she saves Jonah Killebrew from drowning in a chilly mountain lake which is where the house she stopped by to check up on the cat that her professor asked her to care for. He's badly injured—wild animal bites from the look of his wounds—and as a fledgling healer, she wants to help him recover. But his bites are more than they seem to be and all the potions and salves in the world may not be enough to save him. Linda has yet to disappoint me when ever I pick up a copy of her paranormal young adult novels. Her novels have always kept me on my toes and wanting more even when I have finished reading her novel. I had such fun reading it that I seriously was dreading finishing this novel since I didn't want it to end which always happens when I read Linda's novels. Linda Palmer delivers yet another wonderfully suspenseful and exciting young adult novel about a young woman who finds out something unexpected about herself and is also dragged into a whole new world that is not freaking her out since she found her true love. This novel is just the start of a great series that I have to recommend to both young adult and adults alike since it is filled with young love and exciting suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for all of Linda's future young adult novels since she is seriously becoming one of my favorite YA authors. I give this book 4.5 Open Books:

Oiler and Julie Kimbrell. Today I will be reviewing Jessie Colter's debut paranormal young adult called, Heart's Desire, which I was happy to get a copy to review. The hero of the novel, Morgan Raines, transferred to a new high school his senior year and starting over doesn't bother him, but finding his mate pinned to her locker by her Neanderthal ex-boyfriend does. From day one, Morgan and Skye are inseperable, despite the fact her ex keeps getting in the way of there budding relationship. But will Skye's feelings change when she realizes he turns into a panther every time the moon is full? Or can true love conquer all? I certainly think that true love conquer's all since it is a beautiful thing that everyone strives to one day discover. I love paranormal young adult novels and I had such fun reading it that I seriously was dreading finishing this novel since I didn't want it to end. Jessie Colter delivers a wonderfully suspenseful and exciting young adult debut novel about a young woman who finds her true love is a shapeshifting panther that would do anything for her. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for all of Jessie's future young adult novels since she has hooked me to her writing from reading the first page of her debut novel until the very end. I give this book 4.5 Open Books:

Oiler and Julie Kimbrell. Today I will be reviewing Jessica Coulter Smith's fantasy/sci-fi erotic romance short story called, A Slave to Her Passion, which is the first book of her A Tale of Shar series and I was happy to get a copy to review. The heroine of the novel, Alyson, has been abducted and taken the the land of Shar, a realm that is run by a wicked vampire and is filled with demons and fallen angels. Resigned to her fate as a slave in this new realm but things begin to look up when the mysterious Adam buys her from Lars who is very hard on his slaves. The sexy fallen angel plans on sharing her with his best friend—but after a night of passion, he may just change his mind about sharing. Alyson begins to wonder if its possible to fall in love with the man who owns you and she also begins to wonder if she's still a slave? Or just a slave to her passions? This novel is very different from the other novels I've read by Jessica and I loved it! I think she wrote it beautifully and it was definitely hot and steamy which made me want it to never end especially since I thought the angels were gorgeous in this novel. Jessica Coulter Smith delivers a wonderfully erotic and passion filled novel about a woman who gets kidnapped and taken to another realm to be a sex slave. I will be keeping an eye out for the future books in the A Tale of Shar series since I know this novel is just the beginning for Alyson and Adam.
A Shifter, A Vampire and A Demon walk into a bar…

Shifting Reality, Book 1

Thomas Lyons is your average cat shifter. Cool, seductive…and bored out of his mind. With the new popularity of all things paranormal, he doesn’t see why he should hide anymore. When his half-demon technophile roommate hooks him up with a computer, Thomas starts a blog announcing to the world who and what he is. Oddly enough, the more he shares, the less he’s believed. In fact, people begin thinking it’s a new online series with fantastic effects.

Margo Sheffield doesn’t dance on tables anymore, not since her reckless naïveté cost her so much. These days, her only guilty pleasures are dark chocolate, shoes—and a certain website with a man whose purring voice sends shivers down her spine. When the show, Shifting Reality, offers a week in a haunted Scottish castle with the stars, it seems a far-off dream. But when that dream becomes reality, her boss’s insistence that she mix business with pleasure—or else—is more like a nightmare.

Thomas’s focus on the show is blown by the luscious, camera-shy handful. And Margo can barely think about contracts when she’s surrounded by newlywed ghost hunters, a matchmaking demon and a man whose addictive touch makes her head spin. A showmance is the last thing she needs, but with a sexy cat like Thomas on the prowl…she just can’t resist.

Warning: Tons of explicit sex. A cat shifter with an oral fixation, voyeurism, anal sex, sex in pantries, with ghosts…you get the idea.

Buy Here
