Turns out you can have some fun in the rain. Kevin & Margarita–thanks for being troopers and enduring the rain for a bit. We had a good time and we are looking forward to witnessing you both get married next month.

jennifer & tom|elmhurst engagement session

We had fun on this engagement shoot with Jennifer and Tom because they did something that we think makes engagement sessions unique. Prior to the session, Jennifer and Tom suggested locations that were a part of their first date, like Francesca’s of Elmhurst. Sometimes it can be tricky working out locations just because of lighting issues or not wanting to disrupt something like a restaurant atmosphere. But in this case, it worked out and we love that because we get to see couples in places familiar to them, enjoying each other. Plus, Jennifer & Tom are huge Guinness fans. That just makes me happy by itself. Jennifer & Tom, we are looking forward to your September wedding!

cameron & kris|jackson park engagement

If there’s a measure of a thoughtful person, one of them would be receiving flowers from them when you show up to take their photographs. I mean come on! But seriously, everything in this shoot was great. Cameron & Kris did a good job of thinking through places that were meaningful to them and yet were still great locations for photographs. When a couple does that, it feels much more like a fun date than a tiresome portrait session. For their engagement, we started at their condo, then moved on to Jackson Park and Promontory Point, and then finished off with a late brunch at Clarke’s. Good stuff. Cameron & Kris, you two are very kind and thoughtful, and I’m excited to see your wedding take place next month!

jenna & alex|rochester, ny wedding

We got to have some fun traveling to shoot a wedding recently for Jenna & Alex in Rochester, NY. This was a special wedding to witness as many guests from England were able to attend, but by judging Jenna & Alex’s kind dispositions I can see why no one wanted to miss it. Sharon is part-British as well and enjoyed shooting this wedding–every time she gets around tea and biscuits her British side basks in contentment. Jenna & Alex incorporated some great elements throughout the day like a Volkswagen Bug (which, by the way, I love Volkswagens), beautiful vintage bottles for centerpieces, fabric bouquets oh and one element they couldn’t control–the beautiful weather. Weddings just feel cheery with nice weather, don’t they?

Jenna & Alex, congrats to you both. Thank you for letting us be a part of the day, and we hope these images remind you how special it was for years to come.

chris & megan | milwaukee engagement

It turns out, Milwaukee isn’t so bad. We’re not saying we ever thought it was, but we Chicagoans sometimes think we’re the biggest thing here in the Midwest. And while we do love our city, Megan & Chris helped us realize that Milwaukee is worth a visit or two. The open spaces by the lake shore, turn of the century homes, and blue collar feel had a charm we enjoyed. Maybe because we’re from Chicago. Nonetheless, Megan & Chris are the biggest reason we enjoyed Milwaukee. Spending time with them reminded us why we love what we do. We had so much fun on this shoot, and Chris and Megan were great at being at ease with us. For their engagement photo locations, they suggested Alterra Coffee (we happily obliged), North Point Lighthouse (where Chris proposed), and the 3rd Ward. Well chosen you two. We’re excited for their June wedding, where we get to visit Milwaukee for the second time. Chicago, don’t be jealous.

mo & joel|lake geneva, wi

Mr. Rogers once asked the question, “Won’t you be my neighbor?” As children, we probably all wondered why in the world this man was so set on the idea of us being his neighbor. But I submit that Mr. Rogers may have been on to something when it came to the ideal of neighborly friendships.

These are our neighbors, Mo & Joel. But they aren’t just neighbors; they are dear friends and considered family. We share meals, ideas, struggles, successes, laughter, prayers and even a mutual interest in Downton Abbey (much to my and Joel’s manly demise). We always say that we have the benefits of community living without actually being in a commune.

Mo is a painter and also teaches at BreakthroughUrban Ministries. Joel is a freelance cinematographer in Chicago and a pretty savvy cook. They both have creative minds and caring spirits.

We wanted to do a shoot with these guys because we knew it would be fun, and we knew of this great spot in Lake Geneva, WI that once was a golf course but has since been left unkept. It is a beautiful location; it has a very rustic outdoors feel which made it seem like a styled shoot without us even trying. And there were weeping willows. Come on, we all know that a weeping willow is just makes everything better.

kyle & dave|salvage one wedding|chicago, il

When we met with Kyle and Dave to talk about their wedding, we all kind of joked how anything could happen since the wedding was in March and in Chicago. We wouldn’t have been surprised if it were raining or even snowing, but we weren’t expecting the 70 degree sunny weather. You know that moment after you’ve been through a winter where you experience those first sunny days? You know the feelings you get–excitement, happiness and contentment? Those very distinct feelings matched the mood of this day and we were very blessed to be a part of it. Kyle and Dave were surrounded by a lot of love and support as well as some incredibly dynamic personalities who shared their support on the dance floor. Kyle and Dave, we wish you guys the best as you begin this wonderful journey together…
