With A Twist!!!

Here's a fun way to encourage (bribe) your little ones into good behavior!

Did I just say that? Ummm, hello? If you have a 4 year old at home, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do!
DISCLAIMER: If you're not from the south, you probably didn't appreciate that bit of intentional grammatical error or that I admitted to bribery of my kids to lessen the daily tantrum total. Sorry, I'm just doing my part to carry on the stereotypical traditions.

Think I'll get back on the subject now!

This is a super easy project!
All you need are:

1 Styrofoam Ball
1 Red Solo Cup
Mod Podge
1Bag of Dum Dum Lollipops
Acrylic Paint
Optional:
Ribbon and Letter Stickers

1. Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the inside of the cup.
2. Stuff newspaper into the cup.
3. Add a ring of Mod Podge to the rim of the cup and the top layer of newspaper. Set the styrofoam ball on top of the cup.
4. Decorate the outside of the cup.
5. When all is dry, stick the lollipops into the styrofoam.
6. Go show your kids then immediately put it on top of the fridge and let the bribery begin!!!

My son Houston turned 4 in June. I have to admit, this party was one of the most fun adventures I've planned yet! All thanks to Pinterest!!!!

With the exception of the candy cake (which I've been doing for years) all my ideas came from Pinterest.

In the next few photos you'll see the Pinterest idea on the left, my creation on the right!

I reuse the same stacked bowls everytime I make this famous treat! Every friend my kids have, ask for that candy cake! They could care less about a real cake anymore!

I'm so proud of my homemade photo booth! My uhhhem...redneck handyman of a husband made an actual booth for the frame! You'll NEVER believe where I got the wood either...my grandmother's next door neighbor was throwing away an old bunk bed and I grabbed a few pieces! The photo booth literally cost me about $3!!!

You probably noticed that I've already posted this tutorial, but I wanted to share it again on Tip Junkie's
Tip Me Tuesday

Here is an easy way to take everyday items and turn them into beautiful home decor!

Supplies Needed:

1.Spoons:
Enough to fill the area you are working. My finished piece took approximately 160 spoons. The starting measurements of the wood were 12"x14" in.

2. Hot Glue Gun

3. Spray Primer

4. Tool to cut the spoons. I used my husband's grimey channel locks because they were tough enough for the job!

5. Paint. I used Anita's Acrylic in Island Blue. It cost .67 at Hobby Lobby.

6. Spray Gloss. I used Krylon Triple-Thick Clear Glaze. About $3.50 at HobLob, Walmart etc...

We Love Mod Podge!!!

These cute pumpkins will make a beautiful addition to

Fall decorated mantles or your Thanksgiving table as part

of the centerpiece!

First spray paint your pumpkins

and let dry completely.

Next, cut tissue paper into strips and

apply a line of Mod Podge

to pumpkin before applying the tissue paper.

Cover the paper with another layer of Mod Podge.

Continue this pattern making sure to overlap each strip of tissue paper.

You can also cover the pumpkin without spray painting,

but I love the white showing through the paper better than

the orange! Of course this would depend on the pattern of

tissue paper you use!

TangledEutopia: A Year In Review

The year started off with a Super Bowl Party!

We were halfway through our one year Leadership Ministry Internship at church

and making lifelong friends!

We celebrated birthdays of good friends in March.

We had a girls night by heading to downtown Memphis

and strolling through the famous Peabody Hotel.

Valentines was celebrated with fun crafts!

We had family dinners together!

In March, we spent our Anniversary by coming home to a busted pipe

and a flooded bedroom.

But that was a perfect time to update our bedroom with my very own craft area!

Plus new floors, new wall color, and amazing wall decor!

Easter was spent with the Granny's and just being ourselves!

As the weather grew warmer, we played at the park!

We celebrated the Royal Wedding with a Party!

We traveled to Atlanta for my daughters' Choir Competion

and took home First Place in EVERY category!!!

In June we celebrated 3 years with this little monkey!

Love this kid!

He loved his new shirt that mommy made him!!

July 4th was spent in the ER with a four wheeler accident.

Poor Baby, busted his head open and sprained his arm!

I ended my Internship by traveling to Haiti, a trip I will never forget!

I returned from Haiti with renewed sights and decided

to kick it off with a new haircut!

In September, we spent time at our annual family reunion on the lake.

We had fun taking crazy pictures!

And mama got really crazy by letting this girl drive her car for the first time!

I video taped it but you don't really want to subject yourself to the yelling

(not by me, but by her telling me to calm down...)

We played some football during the Summer and Fall!

We spent time at our Favorite Hangout...STARBUCKS!!

We celebrated 14 years with a candy themed girl party in October!

And after the craziness of 10 teenage girls partying all night...

Mom and Dad took the night off to have a Date Night!!!!

We ended October with a fun night of trick-or-treating on Halloween!

We spent time at a family farm in November.

In November, we celebrated my uncle's

50th birthday and his retirement from serving our country

for the last 155 years! Okay...not really 155 years,

but a long time and I couldn't be more proud to

call him my uncle!!

Thanksgiving and Christmas will round out our year with great family

time and more crazy pictures to come, I'm sure!

So much more happened this year than just these few highlights!

I'm so thankful for every second I've had, both good and bad!

I can't wait to see what 2012 brings for our family!!!

No Sew Crinkle Robot Lovey

Crinkle Bots

Boys love robots!

This super cute lovey was made using scrap fabric,
felt, different textured ribbons, and an iron. The back is a nice silky satin in royal blue.

Supplies:
Template
Rotary knife
12x12 scrap fabric
Scrap ribbon
3/8" Heat Bond Infusion Tape (you can use any size)
Notions for accessorizing

I used the robot template from PrudentBaby.com/crinkle-bots but gave it my own flair.

1. The template printed small on a standard 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper, but I grabbed a 12x12 sheet of my scrapbooking paper and hand drew it a bit larger.

2. Instead of keeping the box shape, I turned the right side of the two pieces (front and back pieces) toward each other, pinned the pattern to both, and cut using my rotary knife. To keep the box shape of the robot head, cut a small slit diagonally where the head meets the shoulders.

3. Next, I flipped the top (gray) fabric back, revealing the right side of the underneath (blue) fabric and lightly marked where I wanted to put my Heat Bond. Keep in mind the different infusion tapes will affect the finished size and feel of the lovey. I used 3/8" but could have even gone smaller. I also used the heavier (ultra hold) infusion tape for durability.

4. After you have a strip of infusion down, start ironing the pieces together. I like to iron smaller strips at a time so I make sure the placement is exactly where I want it. If you are more advanced, you can insert ribbon pieces as you go as long as you keep in mind that you will be flipping right side out when you're done. OR you can take the easy route and iron all edges together except for a 2" slot for flipping inside out.

5. Once you have ironed the edges closed, gently start to pull the inside fabric through the opening until it's right side out.

6. The rest is up to you! Add any ribbon/embellishments you like!

Haiti Countdown

The Countdown Is Here!!!

I leave for Haiti in just over a month. This will be my first mission trip and my first time out of the country!

I feel so blessed to have this opportunity and have worked so hard to get here.

In preparation for my trip, I've saved money, sold crafts and jewelry I've made, and even held a yard sale! I've been able to attain $2,000 towards the $3,000 needed without asking anyone for any money!!! But...we're in the home stretch and I've not yet reached my goal. I have complete faith I can accomplish this with your help!

Why would you feel compelled to help someone go to another country to help people You've never met?

What impact would that have on me and why would I care? I'll tell you why.

We are all here for a bigger reason than ourselves.

Felt Cuff Tutorial

This cute felt cuff is super easy to make!Here are the supplies I used:
1 piece- 8x12 felt
1 piece- 8x12 infusion
Scrap felt of a different color
Rotary cutter
Ruler
Needle and thread
Magnetic snaps
loose button
IronLay the felt horizontally on the cutting board.

I measured my wrist, then cut 2 pieces making sure to cut 1/2" longer than what I needed.

Cut the infusion to match the felt. Sandwich the felt between the 2 pieces and iron together.

Next, mark the felt using a ruler to show where you want your stitching to go.

Attach the snaps and sew the accent thread.

Cut 4 circles from the alternate color felt. I covered the snap by using Mod Podge.

I made a simple rosette out of the alternate color felt and sewed it onto the middle of the cuff. To make the rosette, just cut a thin strip of felt and sew one side then pull tight to gather into a flower. Close the ends by sewing together.

Every year I like to repost this story about my parents and give you an update on where things are. Although i still miss my mom so incredibly, I am overrun with joy to tell you that my dad is doing amazing!!! He had a rough couple of years and continues to struggle through daily life, but don't we all sometimes?

Recently there was an article written in The Memphis Flyer that included parts of his journey over the past couple of years. I'd love for you to go read it, but I also think it's important to read my original post to help understand how easy it is for everyday normal people to fall into the trap of drugs.

My whole life I grew up in church. I heard the same things over and over. It wasn't until 3 years ago, that I actually HEARD God!! It goes back to that saying that "you always find something when you are looking for it"

Sean and I were in the process of planning our wedding. In the process of deciding to become an enormous yours, mine, and ours, blended family. We told eachother that we had to be on the same page spiritually. He was Catholic, I Pentacostal. So we became Baptist. (You are supposed to laugh now.) But seriously, it wasn't about the denomination of the church. It was a private invitation every Sunday and Wednesday, just for us!!! The pastor was speaking directly and privately to our hearts. So that's what I meant by looking. Our lives and the lives of our children have become so much more meaningful. I am so thankful for our church family. I just ended a 9 week class on "Recovering from Life's Losses" which was a really great start for my recovery, which leads me to why some crazy girl is telling you all this in the first place....
I am the only girl in my family. I am the oldest. My family went to church every Sunday and had dinner together after. EVERY SUNDAY. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents, brothers, cousins. We were very very close.

3 years ago, in a matter of seconds, my family changed forever.

My mom called me and said my dad had a heart attack and she was taking him to the VA. The next morning, my brother called me and said my mom was in Methodist Germantown and we needed to talk.... I left my dad's side and went to my mom where she informed me that she didn't want me to be mad at her, but on the way to the hospital the day before, she prayed that God would do something really bad to her because she knew that if my dad went into the hospital, he wasn't coming out until he was better and she couldn't make it on her own. So she had tried, as my brother sarcastically put it, "to have her morning medicine" and she busted a vein in her arm. My head started spinning. I couldn't comprehend what they were telling me. I knew things had changed over the last year or so. I couldn't put my finger on it. They had a very lucrative business called Rent My Husband for the previous 15 years, but the last 2, they had lost everything. I'm talkin, everything. They were doing really weird stuff, like asking constantly if they could come see the babies. (My kids were 5 and 1 1/2). Now before this, they were picture perfect grandparents. Inviting them over, making cookies, popping up with gifts, etc... but they had started asking me if they could come over and babysit overnight, and while they were there, mama would ask if she could buy a can of green beans from me. And they were each at different times, constantly in the bathroom saying they were sick. Things started not adding up. I have never done drugs and I was really nieve. I just thought they were really bad with money. It turns out that for 2 WEEKS before my dad had this heart attack (which turned out to be from him trying cocaine the weekend before for the first time), they had no electricity. And they later confessed, they were scared that if I found out, I wouldn't let the kids see them anymore, so they were buying as much time as possible. My parents had become Bonnie and Clyde.
It all started 5 years before that when my dad had back surgery. My mom says she had some neck problems and that's why she started taking my dad's pills....Well, slowly over that 5 years, it crept up on them. They needed it more and more. They would make up ailments and go to the doctor. When that resource ran out, because they had gone to sooooo many doctors in Memphis, they somehow got closer to the kid who lived across the street, who grew up with my brother, but had become lost in this chaotic world of addiction, and he turned them to dealers. So the pills were no longer enough. They started shooting up. That lasted about 6 months until my dad had the heart attack. They both went into seperate hospitals, the truth came out, and they each stayed for a month. They got out, got help to turn their electricity back on, and swore that they were better. I mean come on.... they lived in the youth pastors house next door to the church I grew up in my whole life! My parents were married there, I was married there, and finally 3 weeks after they moved back in, my mom's funeral was there.... And the same pianist that had played at their wedding 30 years prior, and my wedding, played for my mom, one last time.
This has devastated my family. The day my mom died, I lost my dad and brothers too.... My dad was overcome by grief, that instead of putting everything down, he became more addicted because of the guilt he felt. My brothers hated my dad for what they perceived HE had done. So a year after her death, my middle brother, (who I lovingly call my "midtown brother" because he wears a beard, has been known to pack up and travel Europe and Brazil for months at a time without any kind of plan, and says he thinks People create their own lives, and he's not sure if there is a God), decided to once again pack up and move to St. Louis where he became an AA poster child for a year. He, himself, delved into a world of drugs and alcohol to cope with mama's death. And my poor baby brother who was just a teenager living in the house while all this was going on, became an orphan.
During this year before my middle brother acknowledged that he had a problem, both my brothers decided that my dad did not need to live alone, so they all moved into a completely new house. For 6 months, they gave my dad money for the bills, until one day, the landlord came and said that she was trying to be caring, knowing my mom had past away, but that my father had not paid ANY rent in 6 months. That same day, the electricity was shut off again. Hence, why my brothers hate my dad. That's when my middle brother packed up and left. My dad packed up and went into rehab at the VA AGAIN, which left my baby brother homeless!
So, that was 2 years ago. Since then, my middle brother stayed clean for a year, thought he was strong enough to move home. Went straight to midtown and ofcourse, found out he wasn't strong enough. He moved in with me, my husband got him a job with the city where he works, and he stayed with me until I found a bag of cocaine on my kids bathroom floor, and I told him he had to leave. He didn't just leave. He moved to Virginia!!!! He is always RUNNING, just like my parents!
My poor baby brother is doing well, and we are starting to speak more than we ever have in our lives. (Before, he was my bratty little brother that got on my nerves.) Now he is 26, and doing well for himself.

I miss my dad so much. I decided almost 2 years ago that he was unhealthy for my family. I was afraid he was coming into my home and stealing. He has become so deceitful. So dishonest. I have been using what I think is tough love, but all I think it is, is a way to slowly kill my heart. He has had very very little contact with his family for 30 years. My mom's parents have been his parents since he met my mom when he was 17. My grandfather, for the last 3 years, has done nothing but enable him. With money, housing, you name it. This has done nothing but pull my grandparents apart and ruin them financially. I haven't been able to grieve over my mother because I worry about my father. I cannot get past the same emotions. Anger, sadness, pity, anger, sadness, pity... its a circle that I can't stop. I can't bring myself to call him because I don't want the open communication. It always leads to him asking if I can do something for him. My grandparents found out 2 weeks ago, that he ran up a $5,000 Home Depot account that is in my grandfathers name within the last couple of months. He knew they would find out!!!! His addiction is so overpowering that he didn't care. I wish he had other resources besides the VA. I wish he could could go into a facility somewhere out of town for atleast a year, so he could learn how to live life not only without drugs, but without my mother. So he could learn how to cope with his horrible childhood memories, his horrible memories of Vietnam, and learn how to be my dad again. Learn how to be a productive member of society. My heart physically hurts. I cry quietly in the bed next to my sleeping husband all the time. I couldn't sleep all night on Wednesday before Thanksgiving because I knew the Home Depot fiasco, was finally a deal breaker with my grandparents, and this was the first holiday that he wasn't welcome. I wondered all Thanksgiving day, what he was doing. If he had food to eat. If he was sitting in his house all alone crying and if he would end it all that day. I made him a plate and still couldn't muster up the courage to take it to him. I can't face that house. I can't face a conversation of lies and negativity. I want a relationship with my dad so bad. Am I wrong for wanting others to make contact with him. To help him, when I refuse? My brother has told me a thousand times that daddy is an entrepreneur. He is a genius, He is smart, and the last thing he wants, is for someone that he made, to try to tell him what to do. He knows what to do. You don't do drugs. He knows that. But when my mom died. everything changed. I can't even fully say the sentence in my head let alone out of my mouth, that my mom died from drugs. I keep replaying my dad's funeral in my head and it hasn't even happened. I am a 30 year old woman, yet the day my mom died, I felt 9.

I don't want to get a phone call that he is dead and all I do is regret this last 3 years like I already do. I just don't know where to begin. It hurts to know that they didn't love us enough to not start doing drugs. And they didn't start until I was 22!!!! I grew up in a house with my dad constantly PREACHING how bad drugs were. But they didn't think they were doing anything that bad at the start of this because the doctor prescribed it.
I truly think that in my every day life, I am handling this as any responsible 30 year old wife and mother should. I live my daily life. I go to work. I go to church. I love my husband and kids. But it never fails....every day on the same stretch of Sam Cooper when I am driving home from work, I cry. And I've gotten to where I can gauge it by exits. I only cry for about 3 exits, then I feel better and my mind wonders to something else. Then I get home, turning my full attention on my life until I crawl into bed at night. Only on the nights where my husband is so tired that he falls asleep before I, are the nights when I silently cry myself to sleep. If I have any alone time, my mind becomes NOT strong enough. I need to be able to talk about this. I need to be able to be in a loving christian enviroment to openly talk about this and confront this head on. I know I can't change my dad. But I also know that there is hope for him. If he could somehow get into an enviroment where he feels loved, appreciated, and heard, then he would let down his know-it-all attitude and realize that if he had the answers, he would have been better by now.

I know that my story isn't unlike hundreds of others, but for me it is personal. I didn't grow up around abuse, drugs, alcohol. I had literally 2 months to become an expert on how to save your parents from drugs, and I failed miserably. All the support groups are for parents whose kids fell into drugs. What do you do when your parents fall into drugs????

Valentines Chalk Board Cards

This was a super easy project that required no special machines or tools besides my Croc-O-Dile!

Here's what you'll need:

Different colored card stock paper

(both solid and printed)

Scissors

Ribbon

Chalk

Chalk Board Spray Paint

Glue Sticks

Cut a 12 x 12 piece of solid color paper into quarters.

Glue 2 of the papers together and set on newspaper.

Spray the paper with chalk board spray paint and let dry.

Spray a second coating and let dry.

(Repeat this step as necessary)

Allow to dry completely.

Take the decorative paper and fold it in half.

Cut out a heart.

Unfold and glue onto the chalk board paper.

Punch a hole in the top of the paper.

Run a ribbon through the hole and tie.

Attach a piece of chalk to the other end.

Decorate with chip board letters, stickers, or glue Valentines candy to the front.

You're So Cool....Don't Change

These cards were so much fun to make!

Here's What You'll Need:

Decorative Card Stock Paper

Ribbon

Hole Punch and/or Croc-O-Dile w/ grommets
Chip board letters

Scissors

Glue Sticks

Clear Treat Bags

Dollar Store Chocolates (that look like gold coins.)

Measure the width of the treat bag and cut the base paper 1/4 in. wider.

Cut the decorative paper so the base paper is just a bit wider.

Glue the smaller onto the larger paper then fold in half.

I found some cute Valentines labels,

printed them out, then cut around the shape.

Use a glue stick to glue the label onto the decorative paper.

Punch 2 holes at the bottom for the ribbon.

Fill the bag with chocolate coins.

Use the hole punch one more time to make a clean hole through all layers.

Glue the bag to the bottom (or back side) of the paper.

Next fasten 2 grommets in the holes and pull the ribbon through the holes from the back.
Tie into a bow.
Use the glue stick to glue the letters onto the front.

Can Someone Please Tell Me Why I Love Making Wreaths So Much???

I Just Lurve it, and here's my latest!

Valentines Day Wreath

I got this idea from one of my favorite blogs, Tatertots And Jello.

She used cupcake liners to make her wreath below.

That made me think of a friend of mine who makes these O-Mazing liners that don't fade! She sent me some and I absolutely love the vibrancy of colors and designs!!!

For my wreath, I used her Red/White Damask, Red/White Harlequin, and my absolute fave, Turquoise/Red Scroll!

Everything I used, I already had, so this wreath literally cost me a few dollars!!

I had this ugly hay wreath sitting around for months and months, not knowing what to do with it...

I covered it with red tissue paper. This is definitely an indoor wreath!

I didn't quite know if it would look okay to use all three of these designs,

but I absolutely love the way it turned out!!

I turned the liners inside out and pinched the bottom to form somewhat of a flower.

I hot glued the bottoms closely together, straight onto the tissue paper, alternating between the two red/white designs.

Next I took the turquoise/red, turned them inside out as well, then flattened them out.

I layered the next liner on top but instead of cutting to make it smaller, I just bunched it a bit.

I continued with 2 more for a total of 4, making each smaller.

I covered the messy center by coiling some red garland I had.

I'm constantly brainstorming to come up with fundraising items to sell for my Haiti Mission Trip and although I've never sold any of my wreaths, I'm thinking about including them into my Etsy...

Mod Podge Coasters

Here's a fun way to keep your kids (and husband)

on track while helping them remember your words

without having to stand over them!

Items Needed:

~6x6 inch tiles

~Spray Paint

~Mod Podge

~Spray Sealant

~Paint Brush

~Letter Stickers

~Cork Stickers or a Sheet of Cork

Start with plain white porcelain tiles.

I bought these at Hobby Lobby for about .25ea.

Spray paint the tile and let dry.

Grab a sheet of letter stickers and place your word choice

without pressing down hard. This way you can adjust

their placement without tearing the letters.

Once your phrase looks the way you want it, press the letters down firmly.

Brush the lettered tile with a coat of Mod Podge and let dry.

Repeat this process 3 or 4 more times letting the Mod Podge dry between coats.

After the last coat dries, spray with a sealant and let dry.

I forgot to take a picture, but after the sealant has dried, I turned the tile over

and painted a layer of Mod Podge then placed 4 small cork dots in the corners.

You can also buy a sheet of thin cork and cut to just inside the size of the tile.

This will give you a nice flat surface on the bottom.
