After indulging ourselves in comfort food, TK headed to The Collective as suggested by Robbie. Located in Malugay Street, Makati City near Cash and Carry, The Collective is a warehouse turned haven for budding niche businesses in the creative scene. Recently opened last May 2010, The Collective is a fairly new place for hang outs esp. for artsy people. We were lucky enough that day to come just in time for a graffiti exhibit in Vinyl on Vinyl.

Vinyl on Vinyl is a gallery, an art store and a designer toy store all-in-one that caters especially to Vinyl Art. The way I understand it, Vinyl Art is modern art inspired by the things we (or the artist) grew up with, expressed in unconventional ways. Like for example, budding and well known artists and designers alike express themselves by (but not limited to) designing toys that are produced in limited quantities. Most designer toys are numbered, so you would actually know how many of each kind there is in the entire world.

Of course comes with the rarity of these collector toys is a price you would have to pay. A tiny zipper pull would already cost you more than 200 pesos. There are times that not only you would have to pay a great sum of money but you would also have to work hard for it. We were told that one of the partners of Vinyl on Vinyl, Gabby dela Merced, even had to write an essay explaining why she deserved the toy, aside from spending 50,000 pesos for it. But if you are lucky and you happen meet an artist, they might just give you one for free. In fact, Vinyl on Vinyl hosts doodle nights where you can just simply bring a sketchpad or the like and ask an artist to doodle on it, and the best part of it is that it’s free!

Or if you are patient enough, you can go ukay-ukay hopping wherein most owners are not really aware of the value of these designer toys. You might be lucky and might just come across a rare item that would only cost you about 10% of it’s value or even less.

I seriously want to start collecting Buff Monsters, such cute ice cream monsters!!

Some of these designer toys are packaged in such a way that you will not find out what particular design it is until you open it. Yes, you would have a idea what the package contains more or less as some boxes or the holder of boxes indicate the line of the toy’s design. But still, you’ll never know what’s exactly inside. These toys are called “chase”, you get the thrill of chasing rare ones or simply the particular design you want to get. One of them is Buff Monsters, ice cream monsters that are so cute I want to start collecting them now.

Last December, I was able to find new friends during our EK trip – Team Kaladkarin (TK). Apparently, one of us became depressed last week and asked the group for depression coping techniques. Of course almost everyone suggested eating your way out of depression and that’s where this uber fun spontaneous trip started. The group met up the following day for ice cream – Bryan, Will, Dam, Dani, Robbie, Lou and I.

Ice cream it is! We met up in Makati with the plan of eating ice cream together. Where? We don’t know yet. Haha!

All 4 one, one 4 all! A platter of 4 scoops of ice cream.

The search for dessert has brought us to Greenbelt 3 where we found Cold Rock Ice Creamery. They have a wide variety of ice cream and mix-ins. In Cold Rock Ice Creamery, you are in ice cream land. It could’ve been heaven, almost – if not for the ice cream cold prices. You have to be financially prepared to indulge in Cold Rock Ice Creamery, or else you’d die. Kidding! We spent a significant amount of time pondering on which one to buy, what size and how we can minimize the financial damage on the one who’s paying the tab. Good thing they had a platter of 4 scoops of ice cream for 520 pesos, excellent for group sharing! (it was enough for the seven of us) You get to choose any flavor and then plated with a generous serving of chocolate syrup, brownies and pastillas bits, marshmallows, chocolate chip cookies, and of course cherries on top! We had a scoop of Tiramisu, Cheesecake, Vanilla and Boysenberry. They were really satisfying and yummy, but I still can’t manage to swallow how pricey they are.

Near Cold Rock Ice Creamery at the 3rd level of Greenbelt 3 is Chewy Junior. Robbie was so excited when he saw the store that it made the rest of us wonder and try. Chewy Junior are basically cream puffs but they are not your ordinary cream puffs. They are crispy on the outside….and chewy on the inside! Yes, you have read that right. Chewy Junior gives your cream puff a chewy twist for 45 pesos per piece. Ok so now, this is my new favorite. I am trading my NY Cheesecake Krispy Kreme for this. Nyahaha. I had Strawberry Cream Cheese and had a bite of Cheese Lover. I just love them both! I just wish there’s a Chewy Junior branch accessible to me, like maybe near school?

So I guess the next time you get depressed you’d grab one of these? Yes?

Subic’s Tree Top Adventure is uber awesome!! My time spent here is definitely the awesomest minutes of my life!!!

We spent day 1 at Zoobic Safari and before heading home the next day, it’s day 2 at Tree Top Adventure. My sister and I went for Package G which includes a ride in Superman, Silver Surfer and Interactive Freefall. All those 3 rides for 650 pesos. Too bad mom did not let us try the tree drop where you could rappel down a 60 foot tree Australian style!! (that means you fall down the tree with your head first!! ). I shall come back here someday and do the tree drop! MARK MY WORDS!! Bwahaha!!! It’s also sad that my sister and I were the only ones who get to enjoy the rides in Tree Top Adventure. The place kinda lacks extra safety measures just incase something goes wrong with their facilities, like nets to catch you etc. etc. So yeah, your life is depending on your harness! This is definitely a turn off to those who are very very concerned and OC with regards to safety. But if you are brave just like my sister and I, and you are into adventure, and you are able to trust the power of the harness, then go!! It’s definitely safe; I am still in one piece as I write.

SILVER SURFER

This thing scared the guts out of me! The Silver Surfer sure is fun but whenever it pauses for about 30 seconds at the other end of the ride, it swings like crazy! I have positional vertigo, so I easily get dizzy. They say it’s alright to let go of the handles because the harness can support you, but there’s no way I’m letting go with my weight and the sight of the cliff below us!! My hands were gripping the bars so tight as if my life depended on my grip! But then it’s just me and my positional vertigo. My sister says it’s fun and it didn’t scare her at all!

SUPERMAN

Ever dreamt of flying? Let this Superman ride turn your fantasies into reality!

I super love this ride! Mega-bitin nga lang!! If only they had UNLIMITED SUPERMAN, it would’ve been perfect!!

Unlike Silver Surfer, I trust Superman’s harness! And it’s the opposite for my sister. My sister felt as if her harness was getting loose. The ride was just 1 glide backward and 1 glide forward,then the ride is over. It’s so thrilling; I want more!! But then, my sister was glad that it’s over.

INTERACTIVE FREEFALL

This ride reminded of Abyss Drop in Hong Kong Ocean Park. This is a mild version of it that gives you that funny feeling in your stomach. It’s like you left your intestines up in the air whenever you fall! If you are not the type who would risk your life for the thrill of Superman and Silver Surfer, then it’s the Interactive Freefall for you! If you are too scared and can’t find the right amount of guts to get into the rides, then atleast go for this one It’s pretty mild but still enjoyable and would leave a smile on your face cause of that tickle-ly feeling.

Got plans of going to Subic? Make sure you include Tree Top Adventure in your itinerary, ok?, cause I promise you that you won’t regret it! Super fun! This indeed saved our Subic trip. If it wasn’t for Tree Top Adventure, it would’ve been a mess.

So as I have told you on my moon cake post, the entire family from my mom’s side spent an entire weekend at Subic to celebrate my grandma’s 90th birthday.

And our first stop, Zoobic Safari!

Yelly was really thrilled when she learned that we were going to a zoo and she was going to see some animals!

Upon arriving in Subic, we checked in at the hotel first so that we can leave our things and make some room at the van. Yelly kept on asking about the zoo, she keeps saying why weren’t we at a zoo?? when are we going to the zoo?? i thought we are going to a zoo?? And so I had to explain to her for several times that we are just dropping off our things and we are already on are way to the zoo!

I have to say that my expectations are really really high. I’ve been waiting all of my life to get to Subic. It’s as if I was the only person who hasn’t been to Subic nor Boracay yet! [Yes, up to this point in time I haven't been to Boracay yet. Well, I can't swim anyway! ] And finally, I’m gonna see Subic!!

Sadly, we didn’t stay at a resort in a beach. Mom says that she’s been told that the beaches in Subic are not clean anymore. But our hotel looks really nice! And I’ll show it to you some other time. We also didn’t visit Ocean Adventure since once you’ve seen a dolphin show, you’ve seen them all. And we’ve already seen a dolphin show in HongKong  and another in Singapore and so I guess that’s enough dolphin show for us.  And so, off we went to Zoobic.

My expectations of Zoobic is very high. I know for a fact that the owner of Residence Inn and Paradizoo also owns Zoobic. And so I thought that maybe all of their investments are focused on Zoobic, it seems like it basing from their ads and promotions. I guess my expectations went to the nth level, my expectations were too much. I know what to expect in Residence Inn and Paradizoo. I was the one who planned the trip. I was the one who did the research. Residence Inn and Paradizoo’s entrance fee was not that expensive. And both were just a couple of hours away since they are just right here in Cavite. Zoobic is not. Zoobic is all the way in Subic and the entrance fee is definitely more expensive than Paradizoo and Residence Inn. And I was really really excited about this Subic trip. All I know is that Zoobic is the only Tiger SAFARI in the Philippines and they claim to be the happiest place! And I did not make any research for this trip. So forgive me, Zoobic made me feel really sad and really disappointed (all of us in this trip had VERY high expectations). So I’m gonna stop ranting at this point (I guess?) and just focus on the things I liked.

The poodles at the animal show made me smile! Oh such adorable and talented poodles!! They can even dance waltz and tinikling!!

And then my three year old even keeps on saying, “Awwww, ang cute naman! Mommy bili mo ako nun! Gusto ko ng poodle!! Bili mo ako ng poodle please!! Please mommy please! Gusto ko yun!!” then she does here “beautiful eyes”.

And because we are so bibo and we want to make the most out of this trip, we volunteered! This is my cousin from HongKong with a snake.

And this is my sister with a SNAKE!!! Get it?? HAHAHA snake and SNAKE?! )

Our family has no volunteer for this daddy segment. Too bad they didn’t get to experience this bearcat. I sure would’ve volunteered for this if only they asked for girls instead of boys.

And course I wouldn’t let Yelly miss this chance! I made her volunteer too So here she is with a parrot. I’m so glad she was able to experience this. Up to now I still see the joy and excitement in her eyes whenever she sees this video. She always tells how it tickles to feed the bird with her hands.

Wahahahaha! Nagkaintindihan sila ng bonggang-bongga!

The lazy tigers of Tiger Safari. Naempacho na tong mga tiger na to! Imagine every now and then, a new set of visitors would come and feed them chicken just to lure them near the jeepney! Some tigers won’t even come near anymore even if there’s a chicken bait. There’s about 4 tigers inside the safari and they are given a whole chicken every 10 minutes I guess? Well, the chicken is optional. It’s 200 pesos. There’s no point in entering the safari without a chicken. Trust me. It would only be cool if you are as lucky as we are.

We are very lucky with this one. There’s a jeepney right in front of us and this tiger won’t come near them. The guy who handles the chicken from the jeepney in front of us just tossed the chicken to this tiger because it won’t come near them. The tiger just sniffed the chicken and left. But we are lucky that it came near us and ate the chicken from our jeepney!!

Thanks to kuya, he did not just toss the chicken like the other guy. He teased the tiger to come near us and fed the tiger through the bars of the jeepney. So we could actually see his fangs ripping off that chicken!! Wicked!!

These Aetas are natives of this land. They were not sent away by the Americans during their occupation and when they built Subic.  Instead, they become the Americans’ teachers in jungle survival.

And this is also cool. Normally, you would just see crocodiles lying down in zoos and not moving at all. Not in Zoobic! They have more chicken bait!!

It’s just like fishing But it’s a crocodile! You could actually see the crocodiles jump for their food at Zoobic

HAVE A SPOOK-TACULAR HALLOWEEN!!

Happy Moon Cake Festival!! My school has a huge Chinese community, so I know. Last week, a school organization even had a party to celebrate it. I was invited to come by some of my classmates, but unfortunately I was on my way to my grandma’s house that night. We’ll be off to Subic the following day. My grandma just turned 90 yesterday. So the entire family from my mother’s side spent the weekend in Subic to celebrate this special occasion. My uncle and my cousins came over all the way from HongKong to celebrate! And the Moon Cake you see now is their pasalubong.

Oh joy! I found the huge box of Moon Cake after dinner and said to myself that I would finally be able to taste Moon Cake. There were 10 Moon Cakes in mini boxes inside the huge box and there were two kinds. One is in a blue box and the other one is in a red box. I honestly don’t know what their difference are casue I was only able to eat one. Mom cautioned that Moon Cake is quite heavy and I have realized that I’ve just finished dinner, so I had to wait for the following day to get a taste of Moon Cake.

I managed to get one before we left for Subic. I grabbed a Moon Cake in a red box. I only had a quick breakfast and I was still hungry. Somewhere between the trip, I felt the need to eat cause I am used to eating heavy breakfast. The Pringles my sister and I ate earlier during the trip didn’t help much. And then I remembered my Moon Cake!

With excitement, I got the box out of my bag. I am excited, really. Ever since I learned that there’s such thing as a Moon Cake and there is a Moon Cake festival (so it must be really really special), I’ve been wanting to try one. I know it’s pretty expensive and it’s seasonal so the chances of me getting one for myself is relatively low. And now here it is right in front of me, waiting to be opened. *drooooools*

And then I opened the red box. My initial reaction? Oooh… so… it is a big oily hopia! LOL!

I broke it in half and found the… moon inside!!

The taste? It is the best “hopia” ever!!! It’s so soft, really yummy, and it’s sweet. The sweetness of the outer layer, which I think is what they call lotus paste, complements the yolk of the duck egg in the middle (the moon!). I so so so love it! If only I could have one everyday for merienda?

But having it for merienda everyday is suicide! Moon Cake has a very high calorie level. How high you may ask? High enough to give me a headache after finishing the entire thing. And I don’t have a high blood pressure, actually mine is sometimes low. And for crying out loud, I was on the road to Subic. Not cool at all. I didn’t know that Moon Cake is traditionally shared in quarters . So even though I really really liked it, I didn’t get myself another piece when we went back from Subic.

So anyway, did you know that the Moon Cake is like the Chinese’ Trojan Horse?? During the Mongol occupation in China, a senior deputy pretended to be a Taoist priest and distributed Moon Cake to the people in a city held captive by the Mongol. What the Mongol didn’t know was that the Moon Cake contained battle plans. And when the festival came, the Chinese people broke their Moon Cakes as tradition and found the hidden messages inside. The Chinese people had their victory that night and the Ming dynasty was established.

So where did the festival came from? Legend says that back in the old days, there were 10 suns in the sky. They each took turn in orbiting around the Earth. But one day, all ten went and the entire Earth was on fire. An exceptional archer shot 9 of the suns, leaving only one under the emperor’s command. The emperor rewarded him with an immortality pill. But the archer’s wife stole the pill from his husband. She took it and found herself flying to the moon. She then lived in a palace on the moon and she goes out every mid-autumn.

Last night, I tried my best to catch up at the awarding ceremony and bloggers’ eyeball of this year’s Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs. The event was almost over when I arrived at Le Bistro Vert in Makati coming from school. But nevertheless, I had a great time meeting the bloggers behind the blogs. I was really looking forward to meeting people and socializing that night. It was really important to me since I’m an introvert and it’s really hard for me to initiate conversations. “I promise to talk if you talk to me first!” I’m like that hahaha. I wanted to make up for the opportunity I lost at iBlog6 where I wasn’t able to talk to anybody at all just because I was too shy to approach people. And fortunately I succeeded! See? Another achievement for me is engaging in a small talk with some of the bloggers. I would like to thank my major and the trademarks seminar I attended that provided me with some things to share! Wahaha! Nakapagsalita ako woohooo! I suddenly remembered a nice case that I wasn’t able to share so I’ll share it to your guys here Camel (cigarettes) vs. Camel (liquor). I thought the one who filed the case (I forgot which, sorry) would win since cigarettes and liquor are so much related and they seem to go together. But guess what, the court dismissed the case saying that the target market of both are highly educated people and they won’t be confused by the same brand name because they know very well what they are buying. Labo di ba?

Anyway, sayang, I wasn’t able to eat, nakakahiya kasi tapos na silang lahat kumain haha. Now, I couldn’t share to you guys how the food was at Le Bistro Vert. But according Robbie, masarap daw!

Aside from wanting to have a term with no failures for Christmas, I wantsss to have a new phone. Well, my phone isn’t really screaming for replacement; it just whispers. HAHA! Thanks to those phone housings sold at the public market, it still looks decent enough, which means I don’t feel ashamed using it in public . I can still count on it when it comes to sending and receiving text messages but not for calls because I can’t hardly hear the person on the other end unless it’s really really quiet. But that’s okay, no one really calls me, just my mom when it is extremely urgent or important. Calls are expensive so let’s just text! hehehe It has camera, but I don’t use it cause its quality is epic fail and I also have my digicam everytime everywhere. It has some games but I don’t play since it will just drain my battery and I’d rather do something else like read a book.

So if I’m quite contented, why the heck do I want a new phone? Well simply because I am trying to live a new life – a productive one! If I would be getting a new phone, I want it to help me increase productivity. Basically I just want it to be able to be able to connect to the internet via WiFi and can support a WordPress app. I am happy with that.

And so I have heard that iPhone 4 would now be available here in the Philippines really really soon!! I wantsss an iPhone 4!!

The iPhone4 perfect for people like me who desire to be productive. I love the fact that this one’s specially designed for multi-tasking. Yessss, you heard that right, a phone speacially created for multi-tasking! Plus I also love the fact that iPhone 4 has high definition video recording. Maybe if I had an iPhone 4 when Yelly had her first performance at school just a  few weeks ago I would’ve had the power record it on video. Ooooh, and also please forget that I said that let’s just text instead of make calls because with iPhone 4 we can make video calls using our phone with so much clarity and you can even switch cameras (show yourself and then show what you are seeing, cool!), isn’t that great to keep in touch with loved ones? And the greatest thing that happened to iPhone is that…it comes in WHITE!! White gadgets make me weak.

I have registered on Globe’s website (http://site.globe.com.ph/iphone4-registration) so that I would get the latest updates about iPhone4′s release here in the Philippines. Maybe I should start saving money now…hihihi Is the iPhone4 and I meant for each other?

Going home from a paper consultation for a major subject last 2 weeks, simply the sight of Dairy Queen at Ali Mall, Cubao led me to buying Blizzard. I soooo love Blizzard, now who doesn’t? I used to always get Mudpie, but the Cheesecake Blizzard Treats got my attention! Those sure look yummy, mmm mmm And then I forgot I was trying to save money!! huhuhu

When you are craving for ice cream and craving for cheesecake at the same time, this is the perfect solution! I went for Strawberry Cheesecake because there’s real strawberry pieces in the ice cream unlike chocolate which is simply chocolate ice cream. A nice memorabilia for the Blizzard lovers. <3 Just add 15 pesos I was kinda hoping that they would serve my Blizzard in it, but they didn’t. Oh well, for the love of Blizzard.

Since its introduction, more than 75 Blizzard Flavors have been introduced, including Caramel Waffle Crisp, Tin Roof Brownie, Chocolate Xtreme and Strawberry CheeseQuake®.

The top five Blizzard flavors are: Oreo® Cookie, chocolate chip cookie dough, M&M’s®, Reese’s® Peanut Butter Cups and Butterfinger®.

Dairy Queen locations in China serve Green Tea Blizzard Treats.

On June 21, 2005, the Dairy Queen system garnered a Guinness Worlds Record for the largest frozen treat. Built in Springfield, Mass., to celebrate the Blizzard Treats 20th birthday, the 22-foot, 8,224.85 pound Blizzard Treat was made with 2,575 pounds of crushed Oreo Cookies and 705 gallons of DQ soft serve.

In August 2002, a man coined “the DQ Blizzard Guy” completed his goal of eating a Blizzard Flavor Treat in every state with a visit to a Dairy Queen restaurant in Alaska for his 50th Blizzard Treat.
