By popular demand we just launched the Pivotal Tracker connector which lets you add stories to any of your projects. You can add features, bugs, and chores to any project by simply adding the Pivotal Tracker connector to any tarpipe workflow.

The Pivotal Tracker connector has 2 mandatory inputs: the projectId and the story name. The storyType is optional and defaults to "feature" if you don't specify it. The requester is also optional and defaults to your user account.

As an example we provide a ready to use workflow which receives an e-mail message and creates a story using the message subject as its title and the message body as its description. The project ID and story type can be specified on the workflow by changing the values on the TextInput connectors. To start using this workflow, simply clone it and change it to your needs.

Now you can automate the creation of leads on Zoho CRM from within any workflow. The popular customer relationship management application can best be described as:

Get the complete picture of your sales cycle. Stay on top of your business opportunities with Zoho CRM's sales tracking tools.

With the new ZohoCRM tarpipe connector it's possible to create a new lead automatically by making a simple API call or by sending an e-mail to a workflow.

The ZohoCRM connector accepts eight parameters that correspond to the lead fields. All parameters are optional so you're free to create new leads without any restrictions. The id field will be filled with the ID of the newly created lead if the operation is successful.

You might want to use this connector along with the renovated RestDecoder and automate the creation of leads whenever a visitor leaves information on your Web site.

Up until today, you could do HTTP POSTs using four different fields: title, body, image and url.
The five new fields will let you send information related to users or clients and can be used to connect to any text based inputs on any connectors:

firstName, lastName: can be used to send a user's or client's name;

company: can be used to send the name of a company;

email: can be used to send an e-mail address;

phone: can be used to send a phone number.

As an example, FreshBooks is a connector that makes use of information that can be obtained from these new fields.

Today we've added another connector to our growing list: FreshBooks.

FreshBooks' mission is to deliver fast and simple invoicing and time tracking services that help you manage your business.

We're here to help, so now you can include the creation of a new client on any tarpipe workflow. You might like to use this connector as a way to automatically add new paying users from your Web application to FreshBooks just by making a simple API call.

The FreshBooks connector accepts five parameters that will be used to create new invoice clients. All inputs are mandatory except the workPhone. The clientId output will be filled with the ID of the newly created client if the operation is successful.

We hope you enjoy using this new business oriented connector. Please send any feedback and let us know what other connectors you'd like to use.

By popular demand, we've just released two new features to the existing TwitterUpdater and TwitPic connectors:

you can now upload a picture using the TwitterUpdater connector;

it's now also possible to add a message to a picture published with the TwitPic connector.

To upload a picture to twitter, simply connect any image output to the new picture input. Publishing a message to twitpic is as easy as connecting a text output (e.g., using the TextInput connector) to the new message input.

How can you take advantage of our recently created Convore connector? Here's a possible workflow that will let you announce any new blog posts on a specific Convore topic. To start using it immediately you can simply clone it and follow these instructions.

First, find your Convore topic ID by going to your topic page and click on the "Edit topic title" button. You'll see that the URL will show your topic ID. Insert it into the TextInput connector above where you see <TOPIC_ID>. Then, save the workflow.

Now, if you haven't done so yet, go to the accounts tab and authorize tarpipe to publish to your Convore account. The only missing step is connecting your blog feed to this newly created workflow.

To do that, go to the feeds tab, enter your blog RSS feed URL on the form and choose the workflow from the list. Click "connect" and you're good to go. Any new blog post you write will be automatically published to your Convore topic.

See how we're doing it with our blog by visiting our "News and announcements" Convore topic. Have great conversations!

Some time ago we launched the Conditional connector which compares two pieces of text and executes a branch of a workflow if a condition is met.

How does it work? You feed it text1 and text2 and an optional condition. The connector tries to compare both text inputs and will output text1 if the condition is met. Here's a list of supported conditions:

== : will output text1 if it's exactly the same as text2;

!= : the opposite, will output the original text if both inputs are different;

contains : will output text1 if it contains text2;

!contains : the opposite, will succeed if text2 is not contained by text1.

How can this seemingly simple connector help you with your workflows? Let's say that you'd like to post an update on twitter, but only when the title contains the word "Announcement". You'd feed the title into text1, the word "Announcement" into text2 and the text "contains" into condition.

If the word is found, the original text is available on the output and the following workflow branch is executed. You can even have different branches matching different situations.

PS: Learn how to take advantage of tarpipe by creating workflows for different tasks.

Our latest addition to our growing list of connectors is Convore.

Convore is a quick way to communicate with groups of friends in real-time. Join public or private groups and talk about anything!

And now you can automatically publish a message on a Convore topic from within any workflow.

The Convore connector accepts two inputs: the message you want to publish and the topicId that identifies the topic where you want your message to appear. The topic ID is a numeric value and can be found on the topic page, when you click on the "Edit topic title" button. Its only output is the messageUrl which can be used as an input to update other services.

We think this connector might be interesting to update a list of followers on Convore with the latest announcements from your blog.

We're launching an add-on to tarpipe's feed reading feature: the ability to extract images from feed items and distribute them to different connectors.

It works by detecting if a given feed item has an attached image (also known as an enclosure) and, if it does, the image is posted to the connected REST workflow. The workflow should then receive the incoming image along with other information from the feed item, and push the image to connectors like Facebook, Flickr or Dropbox. Here's an example workflow that does that:

There are many use cases for this new feature: you can, for instance, automatically save new pictures from a Flickr search into your Dropbox. How you're going to use it is entirely up to you, but please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

We've just added one more connector: Dropbox. If you don't know what it does, Dropbox is a great service that lets you sync your files online and across different computers automatically.

You'll now be able to use the connector inside your workflows to upload pictures into any folder, making them automatically available on any computer that is synced with your Dropbox.

The Dropbox connector accepts three inputs: the picture you'd like to upload, which is required, the optional fileName and the folder where you want to upload. If you don't provide a file name we'll generate one for you. Likewise, if the folder is not specified, the picture will be uploaded to the root of your Dropbox.

The fileName and folder can be specified by using a TextInput connector, or by using any text output from other connectors. On success, the connector outputs the filePath which is the complete path of the picture that was uploaded.

We know that some of you would like to use more storage related connectors like this one. What do you think?

You don't have to change anything to make it work and start seeing properly formatted HTML messages from now on. If you're using the plain text body of messages for any particular processing you can still obtain it on the first MIME part of the message.

We're very happy to announce our new feed reading feature. Feed reading is one of the most requested features and lets you retrieve RSS or ATOM feeds into tarpipe.

Now you can connect any feed to a tarpipe workflow and spread information throughout more than 20 different services. If there's a service that we don't support yet, you can make a call to a specific address or even extend tarpipe by creating your own connector.

When you connect a new feed we'll start executing the connected workflow whenever a new item is published. We'll extract the title, body and url from new feed items and inject them into your workflow's RestDecoder inputs. What happens next is entirely up to your imagination!

As an example, here's a way to automatically publish any Google Reader shared items into facebook and twitter:

And here's the connected Google Reader share workflow (click to zoom):

Feed reading is now available on the new "feeds" tab to users who have subscribed to a premium plan. Start connecting any RSS or ATOM feeds to your workflows and let your information fly around the Web!

We hope that feed reading is a useful feature making it even easier to publish content on different services. As always, thanks for all the feedback that you keep sending!

Yesterday Google announced the availability of their own URL shortening API: goo.gl. We immediately started working on a new connector and, after doing some tests, it's now available for you to use on any existing or new workflow.

The connector is named Googl and its usage is very straightforward: it accepts the url you want to shorten and outputs the shortUrl obtained from goo.gl. This behavior is similar to other URL shortening connectors we already support: bit.ly, is.gd, PunyURL, TinyURL and whit.me.

Because distribution is a vital part of any Web application lifecycle, here's 3 great App Stores that we're using to distribute tarpipe and generate more visibility.

chrome web store's biggest advantage is that it comes bundled with Google's popular Web browser. With thousands of apps, the web store lets you start using a new application just by clicking on the "install" button.

To add your application you need some developer skills:

Your app can be a regular website with a bit of extra metadata that makes it easy to find in Google Chrome. Or it can be more specialized, such as an extension for Chrome or a web app that's been modified to be downloaded and run on the user's computer. — What is the Chrome Web Store?

You can customize the appearance with screenshots, custom banners or videos, like we did with the tarpipe application. If you'd like to charge for your application you can either use Chrome Web Store Payments or your own payment gateway.

Oneforty, the brainchild of Laura Fitton, co-author of the book Twitter for Dummies, "helps you discover thousands of tools that help you do more with your business, career or life using Twitter!".

Adding your application is a very easy process that only takes a few minutes and doesn't require any technical knowledge. Oneforty offers visibility through different lists of applications and something interesting called "toolkits".

Toolkits are created by users and bundle applications that might work well together. Example toolkits include Customer Support Tools, Social media distribution and Lead Generation Tools.

WordPress.org Plugin Directory is a huge distribution platform that can put your application in front of millions of bloggers. Installing your plugin doesn't require users to leave their blogs, so it's a great way to get distributed.

While creating a plugin isn't for anyone with no technical skills, once your plugin has been developed, distributing it is a breeze. To get started, the plugin should offer some type of interaction with the blog, but there are many options, from a simple blog widget, to a customized way of managing blog posts.

Our Share now! widget lets your blog users easily share your posts on social networks and is also available as a WordPress.org plugin.

Daily Photo Wall is an interesting project created by André Luís and Nuno Loureiro where you can share feelings, ideas and whatever you like, simply by sending a picture to an e-mail address.

The idea behind this project was to create a place where everybody could simply share a photo a day, posting all photos to the same “wall” and thus creating a big picture of what the world is seeing. — Nuno Loureiro

The project is using tarpipe to receive all the pictures and make them available online. We also created a special e-mail address so that it's easy to remember and distinguish from the automatically generated workflow e-mail addresses.

We found in tarpipe the best solution to start quickly while also maintaining the possibility to get up and switch service if tumblr goes south. In these uncertain times we can’t be sure on January 1st that any service will be online until the end of that year. We also wanted to keep it dead easy for anyone to contribute. — Nuno Loureiro

To participate just send a picture to dailyphotowall@tarpipe.net and, after a few moments, it will show up on the Daily Photo Wall!
