At roughly 9:26 a.m. local time Friday morning, a meteor exploded over Russia's Chelyabinsk region, lighting up the skies and sending a shockwave racing across the landscape. Media reports said that about 500 people or so were injured, mainly from glass and other debris that the shockwave hurled through the air.

According to Russia's space agency, the meteor was traveling about 19 miles per second and exploded roughly 950 miles away from the country's capital city of Moscow. It reportedly had nothing to do with asteroid 2012 DA14, which is scheduled to pass within 17,100 miles of Earth around 2:24 p.m. ET on Friday before heading off into space. (The asteroid is unlikely to strike a communication satellite or other satellite in orbit around the Earth.)

A decade ago, we would have had to rely on our own imaginations to picture the scene, or perhaps a well-timed photograph that a news reporter captured. The aftermath of the meteor would certainly be well documented; videos of damage, such as of this factory, are already being produced and circulated. But today, given the prevalence of always-on dashcams used by most Russian drivers, plus closed-circuit television, means that we can have a real-time glimpse of what happened as the meteor hit. Some of the shots are so well-framed you'd swear they're fake - but the other videos, showing the same thing, prove they're not.

I killed Diablo 3 in 23 hours

I bet every gamers talking about Diablo 3 for now. More than 10 years of waiting for the sequel is what made us eager to return to Tristram once again. Once you started playing Diablo, you cant stop thinking about finishing it - to kill the prime evil Diablo. Until it happened, our day will feel dark and daily routines were suddenly out of its beat.

So am I. I choose Monk just because I really like the role of noble fighter which similarly played by Paladin in Diablo 2. I didnt really do google on character comparison, skill or whatsoever.. what I want to do is just to kill Diablo and at the same time, enjoy doing it. I really enjoy Monk character with it fast attacking and display of power and martial art.

I finally managed to enter Diablo's lair at almost 23 hours of gameplay. Diablo seems to be easier to kill compared to his other lower rank bosses, probably because in the final fight - it is 1 on 1 duel. You can see on the clock in pic above - my start and finish. It just one time attempt with level 31 monk.

I am thinking of going for another round of gameplay with other mods, and most likely will stay with Monk for now.

BERSIH 3.0 : Aftermath | FUBAR?

My writing is not as a political analyst or as a pro-opposition. I can say I am 60/40 towards the coalition pack (I'm trying to avoid from using the negative word 'opposition' as I didnt agree with such negative term) and I am not a hardcore follower of politic news in Malaysia as I dont go every single details of it.

What are surfacing from my observation in the internet (i.e. blogs, forum, facebook posting): initial outcome of Bersih 3.0 was - people supports are leaning toward the current government now. Thanks to current government preparation which they have learn from previous BERSIH gathering, which in my opinion was took for granted by the BERSIH organizer. Now the opposition pack need to do damage control to their image - which for me will take time especially when images and visual of civilian beating up reporters, police and smashing police car and visual of Pemuda Amal PAS running thru and breaking the police barrier. It was a total mistake and risk which was not properly taken into consideration and the government has outsmarted the organizer and the coalition pack). They have learn how media play important role and give first impression by preparing video recording via PDRM video feed.

They should know that Malaysian in general - or in other word, majority of Malaysian are used to live in peace and harmony environment. And this is what has been used by the government to give negative image to BERSIH gathering. Other arguments are such as bad for our country image, businesses and investors. Which I can say - its a true fact.

(But in long run I would think businesses and investors would be more convincing to invest in our country if we have a trustworthy government and able to develop a truely progressive nation).

BERSIH organizer should take it into consideration into their planning at least how to minimize the said damages and mitigate it properly. Of course, one cant satisfy everybody - but it should be taken as first challenge if the coalition want to administer this country - listen to the people. I do personally think BERSIH organizer was too stubborn in their consideration because they ignored some hard fact on BERSIH's negative impact cited by the government. In my opinion - the best strategy is to eliminate or minimize these issues which had been used by the government on previous BERSIH gathering. Failure to taking this into consideration - I would think that 50/50 voters or even 60/40 voters will switch their support to the current government.

In a bigger and gloomy picture - by ignoring complaint/issues been raised from previous BERSIH gathering - the organizer and coalition are just not much better than the government in their desperate attempt to gain control over the country. I am saying this a challenge - for them to show and prove that they are much better if they really want to run this country.

Its one hell of effort for them to do damage control now and I would suggest starting by bringing all those who broke the law during BERSIH 3.0 gathering to face law.

I have attended Miri BERSIH gathering from 2.00 to 03.20pm last 28 April 2012 and grateful there was no unfortunate event happened as the crowd listened to the organizer and respect the police officer who observing the gathering.

Having said all the above, my personal conclusion as an average* Malaysian in following politic news - we dont need any more BERSIH kind of gathering as it is high risk as far as safety of the rakyat concern in such mass crowd. The organizer together with the coalition pack should think of smarter way to address their concern and in getting the people support. IF, you cant think any of smarter methods in this internet and knowledge era, then for me - you are no better than the ruling government. If your strategy also trying to get support by manipulating people's emotion - then you are no better than the ruling government.

* Average - because too much politic is not productive and doesnt generate any positive or even conducive in delivering your services to rakyat. We as the tax payer, want the salary been paid to be well utilized in delivering your responsibility in the most productive ways. A boss doesnt like a worker that talk too much.

Remember the AirAsia announcement clip that went viral recently? You know the one we're talking about - the hilarious video of the in-flight safety instruction which had airline passengers hooting in laughter.

Well, Yahoo! Malaysia spoke to Quinton Dinesh Thomas, the senior flight attendant in charge of the zany announcement and this is what he had to say.

"I have boarded many flights as a passenger or when i was a junior crew and realized that during the safety demo briefing, many passenger read books, sleep or just look outside the window instead of paying attention.

"I would rather have at least 90% of passengers - better 100% of them - listen, smile, laugh, enjoy the safety briefing, than to have 50% not paying attention at all," Thomas said.

Well, his announcement certainly got the attention of the denizens of cyberspace. The video of his announcement was put up on YouTube on April 12 and has already got over 339,000 views so far.

The posting resulted in dozens of comments as well as over 2,000 'likes'.

One commenter said this was the first time in 20 years he or she paid attention to an in-flight announcement.

Another called the announcement 'amazing' and said flight announcements - especially safety ones - should be done creatively and in an engaging manner.

"I can now easily recall the safety measures. You did a good thing by posting this video. I hope Air Asia acknowledges you, especially when the media picks up on this," said the person, whose login name was 'kevinrohanthomas'.

According to 'saymawa', the person who uploaded the video, the announcement was made during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Krabi, Thailand.

He added he was aware his job is on the line because of his deviation from the standard text announcements requested from the Department of Civil Aviation but said he wanted to do something to educate and entertain passengers while ensuring they got the safety message clearly.

The problem is that people love for nature to fit into their already pre-concieved ways of thinking. If the Quran says that there are 12 months in a year and each month is 30 days then there are 12 months in a year even if there are 365 days in a year. Adding a 13 month would go against God's commands mentioned in 9:37 which forbids adding a month, and allowing any number of months that God has forbidden.

Although this seems like a problem this is not really a problem. Now, we need to think out of the box, because nature, and especially God doesn't always fit into a box. If the Quran says that there are 12 months in a year and each month is 30 days then there are 12 months in a year even if there are 365 days in a year. Adding a 13 month would go against God's commands mentioned in 9:37 which forbids adding a month, and allowing any number of months that God has forbidden."

Strange voice heard across Kota Samarahan

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Unexplained chilling sounds, which filled the air of Samarahan in the wee hours of Jan 11 and 12, have residents there puzzled and perturbed until today.

One of the theories being thrown into the pan is that it could be a by-product of the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Programme (HAARP) undertaken by the United States, while others believed it were from processing machines hard at work at an oil palm factory owned by Felcra in Kampung Endap.

But the fact remains that until today the mysterious sounds, which some say resembled loud snoring sounds, remain veiled.

Teacher Mohd Ferdauz Jemain, who lives at Kampung Meranek, was one of those who heard the unexplained phenomenon on Jan 11.

“It was around 2 am when I was awoken by a strange sound. It was a loud hushing sound,
and quite similar to someone snoring.

“I immediately got out of bed and went outside of my house to see what was happening. The feeling was a chilling one. I could not establish where the sound was coming from … it was as if something coming from the sky.

“Frightened, I quickly dashed inside, but stayed awake till daylight as I would not sleep any longer. If I am not mistaken, the sound persisted until about 5am.”

To prove that he was not spinning a tale, Ferdauz said he had recorded the phenomenon on his mobile phone, and he played it for thesundaypost reporter yesterday.

He added that the matter became a hot topic of discussion in Samarahan that day, and
some of the residents even documented their experience on Facebook.

“Villagers in Meranek, Pinang, Sindang, Tambirat and even those living at Desa Ilmu housing estate have also heard those eerie sounds.”

Several residents suggested that it could have come from the oil palm factory in Kampung Endap, but resident Harith Amin, who had worked at that factory previously, brushed it off as nonsense.

“The factory has been there for the last eight years, and I am sure it was not sounds produced by the machines there. In addition to that, no oil palm processing machines could produce sounds which could be heard 8km away,” said Harith, who also made a recording of what he had witnessed. To verify Harith’s theory, Ferdauz decided that should the phenomenon occur again the next day, he would make a dash for the factory.

Ferdauz: “I worked at a school in Sebuyau, so I wake up very early to go to school. True enough, the strange sounds happened the next day, and I quickly made a stop in front of the factory. No sounds came out from there (factory).”

Ferdauz claimed that he also saw strange pattern in the skies in the early morning of Jan 12.

“The clouds appeared to be in straight lines, and well formed. I have never seen anything like it, but whatever it is, I am sure there must be a scientific explanation for it.

“But later that day, an earthquake hit Sumatera in neighbouring Indonesia with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale. I am not sure whether both incidents are related in some ways.”

The incidents only occurred for two nights – Jan 11 and 12.

Meanwhile, Kampung Meranek’s JKKK chairperson Mahmud Pawi, who claimed that he also heard the sounds together with his family, said hoped that the authorities concerned could shed light on the matter.

“When I woke up that morning (Jan 11), I had goose bumps just listening to the sounds. I quickly woke up my entire family and we sat at the veranda trying to figure out what it was and where it was coming from.

“We hope that someone can step forward and enlighten us with an explanation.”

Competition Staging – Understanding Acoustic Centers

In the quest to achieve the perfect soundstage for a sound quality system, there are many variables that make or break the final result. Simply buying a set of $800 fine European components will get you nowhere. Proper placement and angles is something we have control over during the designing of the system. One of the most important things to understand is how speakers disperse sound in order to properly install a component set. In this article, we are going to address acoustic centers and how to get the best image and stage possible in a vehicle.

99% of the time when you see a set of components in a car, the midbass driver is in the lower front corner of the door and the tweeter is directly above it, at the top of the door, or in the corner off the corner of the glass on the trim panel that covers the side mirror mounts. In the last decade, installing components in the kickpanels has become fairly popular.

If you’ve read the “How to Stereo Image and Soundstage” article, you understand that the farther the speakers are away from you, the more equal the distant between the right and left sides are. This is critical in having a stage that is not perceived as “too loud on one side” and for getting the soundstage as centered as possible.

BUT, WHAT ABOUT HEIGTH? It is not too tough to get a good center stage. Getting it high (above the dash” with speakers mounted in the kickpanel can be a nightmare if you do not know what you’re doing… So what do you do? Let’s look at some options…

I had a friend who built a great car. It was well designed and had a great center stage. But at Sound Quality competitions, judges always docked him points for his stage being too low. I told him to use keep his system as it is, but to also add a set of 3.5” coaxial drivers in the top corner of the dash in the oem locations. These were in addition to his expensive components in the kickpanels. I had him wire them out of phase to better couple to the components due to pathlength differences. I also had him buy some potentiometers (gain knobs) to be able to have them considerably lower in amplitude than his components. The result was additional speakers that were impossible to hear. It sounded like they weren’t even there, but they lifted the entire sound stage, not just the upper frequencies. It sounded like his midbass and tweeter drivers were all mounted on top of the dash. He went on to become the rookie of the years in IASCA.

Assuming that you haven’t built anything yet and we have a blank canvas to paint on, let’s do what we can to get our acoustic center to provide the best stage possible.

With any cone or dome driver, the high frequencies roll off the edge of the cone while the higher frequencies come off of the center of the dome or dustcap. Read this again… With crossovers separating frequencies to midbass and tweeter drivers, it becomes imperative that we understand what exactly is happening to sound radiating off of each driver. The picture below shows a side view of components mounted in a door with the midbass at the bottom front corner and the tweeter mounted directly above it.

The red line represent where the crossover frequency comes off of each driver – lowest frequency off the outside edge of the tweeter and highest frequency off the center of the dust cap of the midbass. The blue line represents the acoustic center and where the sound stage will be projected. Obviously, the sound will be projected to the center of the car on the floor. Now, maybe you’re weirder than I am, but I never enjoy listen to my music with my head between my seats! Yet this is how many components are installed.

Let’s see what happens if the tweeter is mounted higher as we mentioned above…

As you can see, while the acoustic center is still aiming slightly down, it is not nearly as bad as before. So, our problem is lessened but not fixed AND we just inherited another problem. The closer a speaker gets to your ears, the louder it will be perceived. By having the tweeter higher, the tweeter is now considerably louder and overpowering the midbass. Crossovers are designed with the drivers as close to each other as possible. In essence, we just created a mess. Joe Blow who doesn’t know poop about high end audio would never notice the difference, but if you’re still reading this article, you obviously care and what the most impressive system possible. Some of you may have already asked the question to yourself, “What in the heck am I supposed to do then – put my tweeter under my midbass to make the stage go upwards?!?!” Well, Mr./Mrs. Brainiac, let’s see what would happen…

Well, I’ll be darned! It worked! NOT!! Yes, the stage may be aiming in the right direction, but again, we introduced another problem. Now that our tweeter got further away, it will be inherently less loud. And, as frequencies get higher, they become more and more directional. Having the tweeter partially hidden under a midbass is a bad idea as well. But at least we understand the concept right?

Now, if we try to lessen the pathlength difference by putting our components in the kickpanels, we will find some great new changes. Aside from sounding more like you’re in the center of the car, we can put our tweeter almost anywhere around the midbass without any obstruction to the sound. Just as in the drawings above, we will find that having our tweeter below the midbass will help drastically to lift the stage up.

So, is it safe to say that wherever the tweeter is, that sound will go the opposite direction? Pretty much, yeah. So what happens is the kickpanel baffle (what the speakers mount to) is not vertical? Well, this just opens another whole can of worms, doesn’t it? There are several home audio companies that have angled baffles. Not only does this reduce reflection cancellation by standing waves inside the box, but is also does this…

It accounts for the acoustic center and places is level and directly in your face. Home audio doesn’t have to deal with dimensional issues, so it is fairly easy to get a great soundstage. In car audio, we have many dimensional issues. We have doors to limit the width of our sound stage. We have a windshield to limit the depth and we always have our speakers lower than our heads which limits height. Taking what you just learned, you can now install speakers in appropriate locations, with the proper orientation of drivers to each other, and with the baffles angled to suit your needs. Such a simple concept that is never properly explained and is based of true physics and acoustic theory. Pioneer P80RSII DLS Ultimate Focal [Full HD 3D]

The term 'SQ' or 'Sound Quality' for in car audio system is for system that emphasize on sound quality output rather than loud, or in other word 'SPL' @ 'Sound Pressure Loud'.

I am into SQ since i'm into car audio about 3 years ago. Started with an Alpine's entry level HU, 9870E. The first thing that I bought was a monoblock, Alpine MRP-M850 with a pair of Boschmann 8" 400 watts max subwoofer which was installed on the rear speaker mounting running free-air (infinite baffle by the rear trunk).

The subs serves me for 3 years before I bought a 12" W1 JL audio subwoofer recently. JL subs allow me to play different range of frequency spectrum compared to my free-air 8 inch. I tuned the lowpass to 25khz for the JL to play for soft / no-thumping but air moving bass.

I also used Pioneer FH-P6050UB (2 pre-out) head unit and Pioneer 4 channel GM-4300F amplifier before.

FH-P6050UB is quite acceptable, just that it have limited pre-out. It can play rock song very well since as its sound more on the warm side. I also used a MTX Electronic 2/3 Crossover LSX2 with this HU before for 3 way active setting. However, adding another device in between headunit and amplifier would potentially generate noise and also lost of power due to the voltage differences. Pioneer 4 channel GM-4300F also quite a decent performer. However, its a bit harsh and certain frequency which need proper tuning especially if you playing many type of music.

My final upgrade to date: DLS Ultimate tweeter, Pioneer P80 RSII, Focal Solid 4, Rogers Hifi woofer, Alpine MRP-M850, JL audio subwoofer - 12 inch W1. Running on full 2 way active with custom TA.

As of April 2013, I have added three 'legendary' equipment to my setup :)
