Our goal with this kitchen remodel was to open it up to the mountains behind it, add more storage, and make it work for a busy family with young children. 

This modern cabin is full of texture and warmth while being hardy enough to handle guests and pets.

After our daughter married, we needed to turn her bedroom into a comfy space for a couple (or occasional guest). It isn’t a large room, so we upgraded her bed to a queen, repurposed some old nightstands, and then mixed modern art with fabric patterns that I knew she’d like. “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something new”, as they say.

Our goal for this bathroom was to create an authentic farmhouse feeling with a little romance. It is very narrow, so we opened it up visually with a large mirror and lots of white paint. I designed the custom vanity, which was made locally by one of my highly skilled trades. This bathroom is over a garage, which makes the floors very cold in the winter. A runner rug keeps my bare feet warm and adds a bit of style.

I use my kitchens hard! How hard? I chop directly on my counters, rub them with oil when I’m rolling out my bread, and do my own jams and canning. So we installed low-maintenance granite and antiqued cabinets. The cabinets absorb the wear and tear of my children and also fit the architecture of our little white farmhouse. Wood floors clean easily and are soft on my feet.

A whimsical bathroom created for my children, but sophisticated enough to be enjoyed by adults. It is wrapped in an aviary toile, and accented with a bold mirror. The lowest drawer pulls out and has a lid on it. It can hold up to 90 pounds and acts as a stepping stool for young children. When they grow, you can pop off the lid and it returns to full use as a drawer.

The bedroom was designed for two girls who are 5 years apart. My girls wanted happy color. I wanted a room that could grow as they did. Yellow was the solution. It was bright enough for them; timeless enough for me to mix and match as needed. The art in this room is drawn by my daughter. I took her drawing and recreated oil paintings in colors that matched the decor. She’s always been very proud that her art hangs on the wall!

This dark cabin was given an artistic upgrade. Keeping its traditional roots, we used an untraditional floor plan and a mix of modern furnishings to make the space more functional and beautiful.

This home was bought as a short sale, site unseen. It was a great price, but it needed a complete gut job to accommodate a young family and their extended family when they came for vacation. The narrow floor plan created unique challenges, but we maximized its full potential. The result was a warm but modern design with plenty of storage and seating.

One of the biggest challenges was making sure everyone had a place to sit in the kitchen. The space between the kitchen and staircase was limiting, but with sleek modern chairs that tuck away, we were able to allow for traffic patterns and seat all of the children.

A clean design was a must, so we opted for a more modern look. We used Benjamin Moore’s “Simply White” as the foundation, putting it on the walls and cabinets, and coordinating the countertops and backsplash. To make the home more welcoming, we used natural wood on the island and floating shelves. The wood was coordinated with the floor, creating a cohesive interior.

Lastly, an extra wide space near the kitchen and bathroom provided the ideal spot for additional shelving. We installed floor-to-ceiling cabinets that offer plenty of space for kitchen and vacation extras.
