Although winter may appear to be a time of nothingness, darkness and gloom, it holds the power of potential and brings promise of new beginnings in the spring...it is a powerful time if approached in the right way...<br /><br />On the canvas, it's layer upon layer, creating history and depth...off the canvas it's more a case of delving deep, looking to see what lies under the layers of life experience...I think that's why I've always loved working with mixed media and aged items, exploring to see what's there, wondering what will happen if two mediums are mixed together? At art college, I was always keen on aged materials, and loved nothing more than old rusty things and papers that were nearly falling apart...Twenty some years later, I still am driven by the same things, albeit in a different way...hopefully it's not a sybolic meaning that what lies within me is all rusty and falling apart!<br /><br />Hope to see you again soon...</div><br /><br /><br /></div>Tawny Moon Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13397022672080485232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8445668157114672602.post-61457111429801609252015-11-19T18:44:00.000+00:002015-12-18T20:11:40.809+00:00Hopeful Spirit...<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;">Two years ago I painted this picture, I thought she was finished, bar the varnishing...she graced our living room, reminding me daily to take a moment to close my eyes, breathe deep and focus within, to check in with my 'true self' and make sure I was aligned with that...I love to have images here at home to remind me about what's important, pretty affirmations all around the place!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_BQu0yzj4vg/VnRC_z1ML9I/AAAAAAAAJNc/tR_y1UHO9ss/s400/iphone%2Bsissinghurst%2Bjune%2B2013%2B005.JPG" oncontextmenu="return false;"="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> half way through on my old art table</div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">I've been making a lot of my 'mixed media messages from the heart' lately, and I thought it time to varnish this painting too, but then I started to work on her again, adding some pretty spirals into her hair and adding the words 'hopeful spirit' around her neck...at last, finished! I feel like a different person, writing this now, my priorities have changed as well as my perspective on life, so it will be interesting to see how things unfold this year...the painting below is about that knowingness, that you need to move forward and start again but it feels scary, but at the same time completely necessary and wonderful...it takes courage to let go and discover who you are now...it's a beautiful, messy, complicated process...life!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8445668157114672602" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vw64R6EYEOU/VRRoTAuGi5I/AAAAAAAAJDw/1b2ZN5WShBk/s1600/brave-tms-400.jpg" oncontextmenu="return false;" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">'Brave At Heart'</div><div style="text-align: center;">A new-ish painting</div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">A new interest that has developed, or rather, returned, is filofaxing...as a lover of all things stationery, it was only a matter of time before I found myself collecting things and organising my new life in a filofax...or 3...strictly an A5 size girl myself, (ok, there may be a vintage pink mini malden acting as my purse and a purple pocket malden as my business filo) I have lots to share about how I set them up and how I use them for creative stuff as well as organising my world...fun! So...the latest in paints are these amazing Liquitex heavy body acrylics...firstly, I love the colour range and I'm finding some excellent colour pairings even before mixing my own colours, which can be so useful! Also, they are thick, as the name suggests, and they work great with stenciling to give a bit of a 3D effect, which I'm loving...<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" oncontextmenu="return false;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oLmY3ZRA-rM/UTpPsli9yZI/AAAAAAAAHvY/mqXx8yABhgg/s1600/paints640.jpg" oncontextmenu="return false;" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">some gorgeous colour combo's...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Also, my ongoing quest to find the perfect 'mixed media sketchbook' is continuing...I have to order the Strathmore Mixed Media pads from the USA (I can get them here in the UK, but they are<i> very</i> expensive, it's way cheaper from the States...crazy, I know!) I want an A5 ring bound heavy duty paper filled book to sketch, paint and use all my markers on too, that doesn't start wimping out on me after the second application of said materials...I'm trying a Rowny one but it's not doing very well, with bobbling after I apply the big brush pens, and I've just got a Fat Pad, I'll let you know how that holds up...so far my Strathmore Visual Journal is coming out tops even though it's under 200gsm...amazing!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Putting my art out into the world takes great courage, it's all very different from looking at it at home! I chose to use pieces of an old map purposely in this painting...it's a map of the West country (UK) a place I'd like to live someday and somewhere I've explored and connected with deeply many times...I'm finding that opening is a continual inner journey of similar exploration...there is much beauty and wonder to experience...♥</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I have painted several of these 'word heart' paintings now and will share them over the coming weeks, each has it's own word, like an affirmation to read and aspire to, to know and to hold inside our hearts...I hope you like them :)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; This was not a conscious move on my part but indeed Nature had crept into me once again and taken charge of my creative direction...there really is no separation between us and our planet and I began to see and feel that connection strengthen in me through my painting...I will endeavor to find some slides of the old blue paintings to share here...I wait to see what Nature has in store for my next painting phase :) ♥</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; I've been working away for some time now, designing this blog and the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tawny-Moon-Studio/122653767929309">Tawny Moon Studio facebook page</a> too! Over the last several months, I've been enjoying painting more mixed media paintings and have decided it's time...or nearly time, to open an etsy shop...it's in the works and I hope to have some finished pieces available over the next few weeks...in the meantime, I wanted to just start...there's that part of me that wants to wait for perfection, when the shop is done and stocked and yet I've learnt from experience that's it's so important to have fun along the way...in fact, that's really the only reason for doing all this isn't it? To enjoy the process, not just within the art but within the whole 'putting it out there into the world' process too...so here I am!<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8445668157114672602" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" oncontextmenu="return false;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-93Hp3XuuQBI/UXFjrpTm-AI/AAAAAAAAIJQ/O8az-Dwkjuw/s1600/bestfriends400.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">'Best Friends' - 8x8" canvas </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Best friends come in all shapes and sizes...and we must learn to be our own best friend above all else, which is what inspired this painting above...the on-going healing process of treating myself how I hope other people will too and in turn paying them the same kindness...the simple things in life really are the most important...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8445668157114672602" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" oncontextmenu="return false;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5FI3oI2owsI/UXFjweS7kOI/AAAAAAAAIJY/JHWRhGVE6z4/s1600/hopeinheart400.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A snippet from a larger painting </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's so important to hold hope in our hearts...no matter what's happening...I like to add words to my art sometimes as they can really focus the mind onto something positive, funny or beautiful...even if we just catch a glimpse of those words now and again, when we see the picture, it can help bring us back to centre again...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Over the coming weeks I'll have lots more to share and hope that you will <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/tawnymoonstudio">subscribe</a> to follow along ♥</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div></div>Tawny Moon Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13397022672080485232noreply@blogger.com16
