CHINO HILLS -- Bakersfield College placed second at the Women's Southern California Golf Championships Tuesday, earning the program's first-ever spot in the four-team state tournament.

BC and SoCal winner Palomar advance to the state meet, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday at Kings Country Club in Hanford.

The Bakersfield College women's basketball team has had its share of turmoil with injuries and illness during the preseason, but thanks to a talented crop of freshmen, coach Paul Dahl can't wait for the season to start.

"I'm pretty excited," Dahl said. "We have some pretty good local talent. We're hoping for an improved year over the last couple of years. Right now we just need to play somebody and see where we're really at."

TAFT -- Theresa Henderson had 21 points, six rebounds and three assists to help the Taft College women's basketball team rip Allan Hancock 77-59 Tuesday in a non-conference game.

Baylee Day pulled down 10 rebounds for Taft (1-2), which led 45-30 at the half and was never threatened.

CHINO HILLS -- Katherine James shot 6-over 78 to help the Bakersfield College women's golf team finish the first round of the Southern California Regionals in second place Monday.

James is second, six shots behind Beth Sellers of Palomar, who shot 72. Palomar (319) leads BC (330) by 11 shots entering today's final round.

There's not much separating the top from the bottom in the ECHL Pacific Division.

With all four teams having played 10-12 games, the division-leading Condors (6-5-0, 12 points) and fourth-place Stockton Thunder (4-4-2, 10 points) are separated by just two points. Ontario (6-6) also has 12 points and Las Vegas (5-5-0) has 10 points.

The annual Bowlers to Veterans Link City Roll-Off tournament will be Saturday and Sunday at AMF Southwest Lanes. Squads are noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and noon only on Sunday. Entry fee is $20 and you can re-enter and bowl another squad if you wish. If you haven't entered yet, you can enter this weekend as long as you are enter at least an hour before the squad you wish to bowl. This event is open to local adult and youth bowlers.

The unique feature about this tournament is you bowl in divisions and divisions are based upon your book average. Plus, these divisions are separated even more with men bowling against men, women against women, and for the youth, the boys bowl against boys and girls against girls. This gives all bowlers a true chance to win their division as you are bowling against bowlers in your same average range.
