Hospital workers charged with second-degree murder

Two employees of University Community Hospital were arrested Friday night and charged with second degree murder, according to Hillsborough County jail reports.

Flatwoods Park sees Eastern bluebird population take off

The Eastern bluebird, a species that flirted with extinction nearly 50 years ago, is making a come back in rural pockets of the Tampa Bay area. The Tampa Audubon Society estimates there are about 100 bluebirds at Flatwoods Park, a Hillsborough County-owned wilderness preserve off Morris Bridge Road, east of New Tampa. Thanks to the efforts of Audubon Society volunteer Mary Miller, who tracks the population of the bluebirds at the park and builds them houses, the environmental nonprofit organization is better able to protect, monitor and maintain an accurate count of the once-endangered thrush.
