These two brother’s have taken California (and beyond) by storm. With their remarkable energy on stage, skillfully selected tracks, and technical mixing, their presence will be felt and understood.

Making his Santa Barbara Debut, fellow Droid Behavior member SUBVERSIVE will be lending support.

ABOUT RAIZ:

Los Angeles born and bred, Vangelis and Vidal Vargas were raised in the ’80s on a steady diet of Latin freestyle, electro, and new wave that pervaded their urban environment. Their father also exposed them to cutting edge progressive acts Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, planting early seeds for aural exploration. By the mid ’90s they were sampling LA’s underground club scene and heavily researching electronic music’s roots. After years of influence they began to express their musical vision through their own recordings and performances. Vidal and Vangelis eventually found common ground with producer / performer Drumcell, and in 2002 they formed the Droid Behavior event production group and record label out of frustration with the city’s lack of knowledge, acceptance, and understanding for Midwest-bred techno and house music and their European counterparts.

As producers Vangelis and Vidal have released and licensed original music and remixes under various aliases (most notably Acid Circus and Raíz) on the Droid Recordings imprint as well as respected labels Historia y Violencia, Tora Tora Tora, DJMag, Music Man, Resident Advisor, and many more.

Raíz fully harness the capabilities of Traktor, Ableton, and Maschine technology to create a thick blend of Detroit influenced techno and gritty house. They take cues from years of classical training to infuse dynamic musical expression with a delicate balance of mixing board acrobatics and symbiotic intuition. Years of production experience inform their Live PA / Digital DJ hybrid approach, which uses each track’s core essentials to form a narrative arch for every unique set. Their releases follow suit and take only key elements from each rhythmic style to shape simplistic and deep music that captures their diverse influences and personal impressions.

SUBVERSIVE:

Subversive has been a dj and part of Droid Behavior since the late 90s. In those times Techno was hard and acts like Surgeon, Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer and Regis were pumping out epic tracks. The Detroit, Birmingham and Berlin styles of that era all influenced Subversive and it can be heard in his dj sets. In the early stages Subversive mixed on three turntables when he had the opportunity. Fast paced mixing, effects and turntable tricks could typically be heard during his sets. Today, Subversive’s mixing has matured into a well developed sound that attempts to bridge the past with the present. He uses software along with hardware synths and turntables in order to create a more unique sound that reflects the future of what Techno can be. Subversive has had the privilege to mix along side some of his respected contemporaries like DJ Bone, Regis, Todd Sines, Surgeon, John Tejada and Fanon Flowers.

As far as Droid Behavior is concerned, Subversive has been involved with the group since its conception. Having met Acid Circus in college and Drumcell at parties in the 90s, Subversive contributes in any way he can to help Droid Behavior propel to new heights.

DJ BOB BAGHA has been a house DJ for over 20 years and was recently awarded for his outstanding contribution to the electronic music industry. He is best known as the owner of Street Sounds Music on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, an iconic music store catering to DJs and one of the last independent record stores in LA that sells dance music on vinyl.

DJ DougW has been spinning sultry, soulful house music for over 20 years from New York to San Francisco. Now a Las Vegas resident he plays out weekly at one of Vegas’ sexiest lounges off the strip, the Downtown Cocktail Room, and is now a regular at the Eastside Lounge inside the Encore hotel where his soulful vibe flows throughout the entire hotel.

DJ LUCID is the founder of LoudDjs in Thousand Oaks and has been a successful DJ and promoter throughout Ventura County over the past several years. He is always pushing his musical boundaries and has earned a strong following with his unique style of techno which he often creates and remixes on the fly.

This event is a leave no trace event and everyone must clean up after themselves and help leave the beach more pristine than we found it! THIS MEANS PICK UP YOUR CIGARETTE BUTTS!!!!!! There are no garbage cans on site so please be prepared and bring garbage bags so you can bring your trash home when you leave. Respect mother earth!

Those familiar with the area know that parking is available only in designated areas so pay attention to signs and please DON’T DOUBLE PARK or otherwise block others.

Please use use coffee cups or Nalgene style bottles for your beverages….no red plastic cups. NO OPEN ALCOHOL CONTAINERS such as beer bottles or beer cans are allowed on the beach! Violation of this rule is a sure fire way to get our benefit closed down prematurely.

Absolutely no underage drinking is allowed.

DIRECTIONS:

101 Freeway exit 78 (Seacliff) just north of Ventura. Turn left (north) and follow the surface road past the fire station to the dead end in about a quarter mile and turn left back underneath the 101. Park between signs only. Make your way to the north end of the beach.

Special guest performance by ABRAHAM, founding member of the Finland collective L.A.O.S.!!! They have releases on labels like Hospital, Raw Canvas, Spearhead, Defunked, Spin Recordings and forthcoming releases on Viper. Their tracks are getting dj support from names like London Elektricity, Zinc, Blu Mar Ten, Blame, Annie Mac (BBC Radio1), Kasra and Utah Jazz just to name a few.

Due to unfortunate venue complications the Vital Signz club event “Sacred Sounds” scheduled for Friday, has been cancelled. However, fortunately for us, their headliner L.A.O.S. will now be taking his exclusive LA appearance to our beautiful free beach event! Much love to the Vital Signs crew for making this happen, and a special thanks to DJs Damien and Whisper for selflessly giving up their timeslot to make room for LAOS.

We will also be celebrating the birthdays of Lady Sween, Chasm, Drone, and Werd!

Bring anything you would normally bring to the beach (e.g. water/drinks, food, sunscreen, swimwear, beach towels, blankets, warm clothes, hats, BBQs/grills, coolers/ice, trash bags, water toys, boogie boards, cameras, umbrellas, tents, or other shade structures, and if you plan on drinking please bring and use cups)

This is a special community shared location that has been use for over a decade by many responsible crews. So let’s all be good stewards and pick up after ourselves and others. Let’s leave the beach cleaner than it was when we got there so we can continue to use this beautiful spot.

Take the 101 N towards Ventura.
Continue past the city of Ventura for about 10 miles.
Take exit 78 – Seacliff.
Turn left onto Old Rincon Hwy/Pacific Coast Hwy.
Drive 0.5 miles (where the street ends) and take your 1st left (under the freeway).
Go right at the T intersection (party will be on the beach sand straight ahead).

Find a place to park, just PLEASE don’t block anyone in, don’t park on the ocean side of the road, don’t park under the freeway, and obey all parking signs.

From Santa Barbara.
Take the 101 S towards Ventura.
Take the Pacific Coast Hwy/Seacliff Exit.
Turn left at CA-1 N/Old Rincon Hwy/Pacific Coast Hwy.
Drive to the end of the street & go left (back under the freeway)
Take your 1st left and go back under the freeway.
Go right at the T intersection (party will be on the beach sand straight ahead).

Due to the size of this event parking near the beach may fill up quick. If you are unable to find parking on the ocean side of the 101 please use the overflow parking area which is back under the freeway and to your right. Parking is located in the dirt off the road on the mountain/east side of the freeway. You are welcome to come up to the top, drop off your supplies, but if the lot is full, please park in the overflow.

We will be monitoring the parking to make sure the event runs smoothly, so please cooperate with our parking attendants.
Please help us by obeying all the posted parking signs.
Do Not park under the freeway. YOU WILL BE TICKETED OR TOWED!
Don’t block anyone in and try to leave space for others to navigate in and out.
The sheriff does come up from time to time to check on things and we really hate to shut off the music just to send out a Public Announcement that someone’s car is going to be towed, or someone’s car is blocked in.

Niko started DJing in 2003, buying his first records while attending college in NY. His first exposure into the electronic music scene began when he attended the Love Parade in Berlin in 2001.  Shortly after, he began organizing events under 805 Crew Productions, which later transformed into Underground Souls.

His current style is a mix of House and Techno, and whether it’s sunrise on the mountain or peak hour in the club, he’ll get you dancing, screaming, and begging for more. From dark, complex techno bass lines with technical percussion, to hard-driving house with soulful melodies, he brings an exciting, original sound, aimed at filling the listener with energy and joy. Niko is passionate about his track selection, and you will rarely hear the same song played more than a couple of times, as he takes pride in bringing something new to the decks each and every set.
