Consider the following:<br /><br />"Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep." Romans 12:15<br /><br />How can you weep with your members if you do not even know they are weeping? You need to learn your members - get to really know them. This must be accomplished from a position of "I love you so much I am concerned about what you are concerned about." And, "I love you so much I want to know about the good things in your life."<br /><br />"And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart" Acts 2: 46<br /><br />These ABM scriptures show that we need to know one another. The Band meeting is an excellent tool to help us improve this area of our church, so have band meetings as often as you can, and in these meetings get close to each other. When help is critically needed, it will be difficult for you to help if you do not really know the person. A band meeting need not be just another "church service". Get to know one another. Take time to pray for each individual present. Use the Bible to find answers to questions and needs.<br /><br />Your love must extend beyond the Band Meeting, but the closeness of the meeting is a good place to start. In most churches there will be some, who for various reasons, cannot attend a band meeting. You will need to find ways to learn and become "close to these regardless of the distances, work schedules, or other reasons they cannot attend a meeting.<br /><br />And Example to Follow:<br />As I was preparing to write this article, it dawned on me that the answer to How to Be an Effective Band Leader was right in front of my eyes- my own Band Leader. Since she has been a Band Leader, less than six months, how can she be an example to follow? She has shown a Band Leader's heart for years by her generous acts of caring - many cards, baked items, gifts, calls, and visits.
