May 30th
What a busy time. Colben had his 1st birthday party today. It was a pancake breakfast and we had 6 babies and there parents and of course the Morton family. The weather was yucky so we kept it indoors and it didn`t seem to be crowded till the last few minutes when everybody was mulling about. Adam did all of the pancakes (Thanks dada!) toppings were real whip cream, homemade strawberry sauce, fruit salad, applesauce and vanilla yogurt. I have now ate 3 meals of pancakes (leftovers) and my tummy is not pleased :o)

His birthday cake was a pancake covered in whip cream and bananas. I was worried he'd grab the candle but before we could blow it out he dug into the cake. That's my boy!

I didn't get to spend too much time with Colben, he totally ditched us and visited with his friends.

For presents he was spoiled rotten. He received a ride on giraffe, a learning helicopter, a little people airplane, some shades, books, puzzles. What a lucky boy! We haven't bought him anything yet. I think I will wait until we go to the states.

Speaking of the States I cannot believe we are leaving in 10 days. I am soooo nervous. I feel like I am totally unprepared. Time to start making some lists!

On Saturday we had our big photo shoot. You want to talk about stressed you should have seen me try to get myself on my 2 men ready for the shoot. Colben my clockwork napper (2 hours after wakeup-no muss no fuss) that this was the day to eliminate the morning nap. Agggg! He continued with this trend today as well. I don't know if it is teething or if he really is ready for 1 nap a day. I will miss that extra time :(
Anyways, we will get to see the edited photos in a couple weeks so that we can choose the prints we want. I know the pics of Colben and Adam are going to turn out great, they were so natural, but I was nervous and very stiff.

Well it has been a busy one. Colben has gotten his 2nd tooth, is standing for short bouts, had his first really bad cold and is high-fiving. My first mothers day is coming up tomorrow and we have been to 2 birthday parties this month so far! My god the party never ends.

Colben has been pulling up the last couple of weeks and is cruising around. He has now taken to pulling up without furniture against the wall- YIKES! I think Colben is going to learn a lot from the little boy who is coming to daycare. He is 1 month older than Colben and already saying words like duck, dog, ball. Yowza!

Today is an historic day for our southern neighbours. We watched on Grandma Stills TV as the House passed the Health Care Reform Bill. Hopefully I will never again read about moms on my message boards having unassisted childbirth at home because it is $ 10,000 for a vaginal birth at the hospital nevermind if they need a C-section or have complications. They will have prenatal, and postnatal care and their children will defy one of the highest infant death rates in a 1st world country. I hope that this is the the foundation of universal health care for the United States.

I know Colben's B-day is not for a while but I can tell you a music set (maracas, rhythm sticks, tamborine etc.) would be greatly loved by him. I just bought a bag of toys that had a cheap tamborine and he is thrilled. Just a thought

I was informed I was given the wrong weight he was 8'11

Well yesterday we started our trip with a miserable baby despite the fact we bought a portable dvd player and pluged him in to the most hated show in baby history- Baby Einstein. While waiting for our ferry to imbark Colben took a big bite on my middle finger saying in baby terms f-you I just cut a tooth an hour ago! Yes that is right, our late bloomer finally has a tooth bud.
We arrived at Maya's beautiful new home but the bad behaviour didn't end. Colben woke up and Lily needed out in the morning. Thats fine and dandy except it wasn't morning there was so much light pollution from the city that we thought it was morning- really it was 2am. Now this is something I never even considered when I lived in Vancouver but after living at our place with no street lamps no extra light for 2 years, dark means dark to us. So 2 hours later- dog walked, baby fed, played, sleeping, finally it was time for mama to try to sleep. Colben was right up at his usual 7am as if nothing happened.

His tooth bud looks really gross now and I think there may be another on its way- yuck.

The baby will soon be here! I am thinking Feb 28th for the record. Colben has learned to sit himself up from lying down, I couldn't beleive it the first time I went to his crib and he was sitting up. Colben has had his first full blown cold along with missile snot and hoarking cough. Poor guy!
Our knew vacuum bit the dust so we are going to trade it in today. This weekend we did a big spring clean in anticipation of my first daycare interview this week. Look great if you squint and don't look at the carpet :o|

I solemnly swear I will attempt to be a bettr blogging mama.....we forgot week 34 eeek.... Here's what we have missed it wil be in stream of concious form as I am just going to jot down stuff as I remember: Colben is still on his way to proper crawling by doing push ups to strengthen his arms. Regardless he can still make it from only side of the room to the oter in 2 seconds flat. He is attracted to cords like a moth to a flme and we are constantly saying nah! nah! Speaking of nah nah Colben is now saying MAMA all the time and sometimes even to me! We have been re-organizing and baby proofing the house in anticipation of me doing childcare in our house for some extra income. Adam is excited to go on his parental leave on March 16th for a month. Colben made Adam a lovely Valentines card at Baby group (picked out the stickers). We all watched the Olympic opening ceremonies on Friday. I liked the killer whales and KD Lang singing Hallelujah and Adam liked the Cedar trees with Sarah MacLaughlin singing. I forgot I thought the fiddling segment was cool too especially when they played Devils Kitchen. Colben has been wearing the Olympic shirt Great Auntie Murielle sent him. I did a big sort of clothes for Colben today and we are set for 18M clothing for the net 2 years on another note we have virtually no 12M clothes! How did that happen? LOL. Diane is very very close to baby time. I took some pics when I cut her hair- I think she was such a beautiful model they turned out great. Adam spent the weekend helping out 2 different people move- what a nice guy. Well I can't think of too much more so I guess I should post some pics

Here is the beautiful ring Adam bought. It is the most perfect Valentines gift ever. It is exactly what I wanted- simple, honest, design forward. I LOVE IT

Today we let Colben get a little crazy with solids. He gumed his way through several crackers while Lily took care of the rest. After we softened a slice of apple and Colben loved it. For his final course we let Colben feed himself cereal with pureed chicken and sweet potatos. Life is sweet when you are 7 months old. We bought a Quatchi backpack for Colben not for the Olympics but in anticipation of him coming to Sasquatch with us in a couple years. Here is the carrier I made this week

This week I went knitting and photogrphing crazy. The little girl in the pics is Colben's GF Aubrey. I have a lady from Abbysprouts.com who wants to sell them but we''ll see. Colben has been rocking on all fours and crawling backwards to his frustration.

As you can see our little boy is sitting up. Yesterday we did the big switch in the living room. Gone is the playmat and swing, in is the playpen as Colben is making attempts at something like crawling. This means a form of mobility, which can result in whole bunch of trouble. Colben's Fifth's Disease (not to worry a virus not a disease) has cleared up and his cheeks have returned to rosy instead of smack-red like in last weeks pic or the 1 red cheek in the photos above.

Our friendly giant has taken to growling and screaming for the hell of it. When add terrifyingly sharp claws we have a badger. I fear for the worst when his teeth come in.

Here is a picture of Calgary as of 12:45pm today. 2 more sleeps

Sorry about the delay. The household has tummy trouble.
Colben got his 6 month vaccine yesterday and today he is getting his flu shots. Poor guy! I've been stressing about Christmas and travelling but we will soon be in Calgary.

Colben took his shots like a man today!!! What a good boy. After we decided to finish our Christmas shopping (ALMOST DONE!) and he was such a good boy.
He is weighing around 20lbs and is 27.75 inches head is 17 inches- he is huge

Mama had a visit with the doctor too and is going to start metformin for my PCOS related insulin resistance. The Dr say it might make me a little sick for the first bit but maybe it will keep me from eating a plate of mincemeat tarts....mmmmmm mincemeat tarts.....

Colben has had a growth spurt big time. he now weighs 18lbs 8 oz and is 27 inches tall. This puts our boy who started out so tiny in the 70-90th percentile range. We are raising a giant!....for now

We went to the multiiples parent group children sale and got Colben a toy bar, and some socks and THANK GOD we found a size large baby wrap as he has out grown his

This is the knited blanket I`ve designed for myself

This is how far I`ve gotten in the last couple of days. I think this going to be one of those "only-once" kind of projects. Notice underneath a couple of pics we finally got a new rug to cover our awful carpet

Please be advised no babies were harmed in the making of this movie. We were lying on a foamy and Colben rolled on his own freewill.

22 weeks old! (5 months)

2009-11-14T15:07:00.004-08:00

Wow I can't beleive Colben is already 5 months. Colben is biting and drooling everything in reach. He is still trying to roll over but he just can't get the last part of the twist right (his feet remain stationary while everyting else goes to the side). He is briefly sitting up (5-10sec) and is extremly vocal. He shrieks when is happy he shreiks when he is mad he shrieks when he is tired, he shreiks when is hungry.I should say shreiks and squeals. His nails grow at a speed unheard of to man and are sharp as razors. the other day he had 3 scrathes down the side of his face like Freddie Krueger or Wolverine and this is the day after I cut them.

Adam and I got the H1N1 vax and wow does it hurt the the second day. Why don't they tell you that! Colben won't have his until he is 6months and a 2nd dose 2 weeks later but at least we will know to give him a pain killer because it sucks.

For those thinking of Clothes for Christmas. Colben is now into 6 months clothes, size 2 shoes if you are thinking of getting the next size up- we love one piece rompers like the one below and sleepers in cotton. We just bought his Christmas day outfit- it is sooo cute.

Now not really sure for toys- stuff he can interact with and easily hold as of right now but his skill level changes every day. No more stuffed animals please- we have way too many! And we would prefer no cartoon character stuff (winnie the poo, Mickey Mouse etc)

On the boring pratical side he will need a high chair soon but like other gear I am a bit picky. I would rather get a really nice one used then a new one I don't love as it is going to be a part of our lives for many years and hopefully kids.

Please know whatever he receives he and we will be very grateful and don't overlook used items. Manhattan toys are his favorite and we always get them used and clean them because no one in their right mind would pay 20$ for a teething toy. We have no problem at all with used items.

Colben has already shown to be hooked on one tv show (what an addict). Any time we pass the show "the night Garden " he is enthralled. It is a BBC show somewhere along the line of teletubbies, not much speaking, more like sounds and songs, and british man narrates. It is in between creepy and interesting. Check it out on youtube.

happy birthday auntie Mikael!
