Breaking the Twitter 2000 Follow Limit

New users may not be aware but established twitter users who follow large numbers of tweeters usually hit a wall when they attempt to add follow number 2001.

So, how do you get past the twitter follower limit of 2,000? Well the only way to do it is to grow your own follower list.

You don’t however have to have 2,000 followers; the magic number is in fact 1,819. Twitter lets you follow the number of followers that you have plus 10%. When you hit the figure of 1819 you are allowed to follow that number plus a further 182. Your follower limit is now 2001 and you have broken through the barrier, just.

For every ten new followers you gain you can follow eleven new tweeters, and so on. Using that formula Ashton Kutcher would be allowed to follow over 5 million users, slightly more than the 320 currently on his radar. So now you know.

4. Self Cooling Beer Can

Tempra Technology and Crown Holdings have partnered to develop the world's first self cooling beer can. It looks like a normal 500ml can, but features an integrated self-cooling device that reduces the "contents by a minimum of 30° Fahrenheit (16.7° C) in just three minutes."

Transparent Cell Phone on the Horizon

Transparent anything is cool. Seriously, things that are see through automatically scream ‘futuristic’ based on all the sci-fi shows and movies that used transparent props. They sort of defy all logic, especially when technology is involved. Yet liquid crystal technology and its constant switching open and closed are being put to use to make a transparent phone possible. Which makes me wonder, will we someday lose our phones because we literally can’t see it?

A few companies, including, Polytron Technologies are working to produce a transparent smartphone. Their Smart Glass technology looks cloudy white. But when powered on the switching molecules open up and the device becomes opaque. Obviously other technology in the phone (SIM card, SD card, battery, speaker, camera) are not transparent. Polytron anticipates having an opaque filter to cover those less sexy spots. Working prototypes are expected this year and with any luck Polytron will find some interested phone manufacturers and become an OEM partner. So keep an eye out (if you can see them) for transparent phones in the near future.

Think about how much power our bodies generate. We are truly machines, constantly taking in energy and burning or storing it for future use. We rely on electronic devices for so many parts of our life, all of which have to be plugged into a power source. It seems logical that we should be able to harness the energy in our body and funnel it towards electrical uses. Many have tried and it finally looks like someone succeeded in making an efficient device to do exactly that.

Fujifilm recently revealed a high-efficiency Thermoelectric Converter in a flexible film format. The thought is the substance attaches to our skin and immediately begins producing electricity from the heat you give off. Fujifilm’s particular polymer can be manufactured via printer too, which enables virtually any size or shape film. Solar power could be added to the film to enable even more charging. Imagine running low on phone power, applying this film, plugging into the phone and letting your body heat charge your device. OK, maybe that is far off. Medical devices would probably be the first to experience this au-natural charging product. Designer Vincent Chan‘s vehicle concept is one of those ideas that make you wonder why we haven’t been doing things his way all along. The Citi.Transmitter combines the best parts of tiny urban vehicles and semi tractor trailers. Like a little urban commuter car, the basic part of the Citi.Transmitter vehicle is a tiny two-seat conveyance.

And like a semi truck, a variety of back end pieces can easily attach to the “cab” as needed. Chan’s concept includes back ends specifically designed for carrying large or small cargo loads or a number of passengers. There is even an attachment with tank tracks that makes the vehicle able to travel off-road.

The concept makes a crazy amount of sense – a lot more sense than renting or borrowing special types of vehicles when you need to do something that your own car isn’t capable of. Although it is just a concept and not yet a reality, it is easy to imagine this type of modular car becoming a reality in the near future.

Are you the kind of person that’s worried about Big Brother and those CCTV cameras all over the place? So you don’t want your face on camera feeds? Then these specs might be for you.

These glasses fitted with LEDs were created by Isao Echizen and Seiichi Goshi at the National Institute of Informatics and Kogakuin University in Tokyo, Japan. The glasses emit near IR light, which prevents current facial recognition cameras and software from figuring out who you are. The lights are powered by a small battery pack that needs to be transported in your pocket.

Granted, unless you’re going for some sort of Blade Runner look, they’re not particularly chic, but they get the job done. They’re also not exactly what you’d call inconspicuous, so security might still hunt you down, even though they don’t know who you are.

The researchers are working on making these specs a bit more fashionable. They predict that the final model will cost around $1(USD) to manufacture.

Need for Speed Most Wanted Speeds onto Nintendo Wii U This March

EA has announced that its popular video game Need for Speed Most Wanted will be landing on the new Nintendo Wii U game console this March. The video game will be available in North America on March 19, 2013 and will launch in Europe on March 21. Most Wanted turns players loose in a connected, open world where they can race, chase each other, run from police, and explore with friends.

The Wii U version of the game has some exclusive features just for the Nintendo console. It has a new local co-op mode called Co-driver. This mode allows one player to use the Wii Remote or Wii U Controller and the other player to use the Wii U GamePad. The touchscreen on the GamePad allows players to navigate using an interactive map, distract pursuing cops, switch between day and night modes, and to activate enhanced performance features for the car.

The touchscreen control can also be used to control the amount of traffic on the road and more. It will also allow players to choose vehicle mods, switch cars, and track milestones. The Wii U game also comes with five special cars including the McLaren F1 LM, the Lamborghini Aventador J, Pagani Zonda R, Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, and the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder.

Battery.Family: Batteryoshka

It’s a hassle having to look through various drawers to find a battery that’s in the size you need. It’s even a larger hassle if you have a bunch of batteries but can’t find one in the size you need. Panasonic’s emergency flashlight took that into consideration by allowing people to use it with batteries in various sizes.

For everything else, there’s the Battery.Family.

It’s basically four 1.5-volt batteries housed in one huge size D battery. With each ‘family’, you get a size C, size AA, and size AAA battery aside from the D-sized one. The AAA actually contains the power source, while each of the larger casings just contain the contacts to fit the appropriately-sized battery. It’s like those Russian Matryoshka stacking dolls, but in battery form.

Battery.Family was designed by Soohwan Kim, Junho Yoon, Dohoon Lee and Hyojin Park and it is, unfortunately, just a concept design for now. But here’s to hoping.
