WordPress 3.0.1 Available for Download with Minor Bug Fixes

WordPress has been updated with a maintenance release fixing 50 bugs in the previous release of WordPress 3.0. For the popular blogging platform, this is a minor update and WordPress users will notice an update option on top of their blogs soon.

WordPress 3.0 Thelonious was released nearly 42 days ago, and till now 11 million people have downloaded it. Thelonious offered a new API and the merge of MU and WordPress, providing the much-awaited multi-site functionality.

Make sure you backup your files and database before upgrading to WordPress 3.0.1. And, if you haven’t started using it, this is the high time!

Apple Updates Safari 5.0.1 with Extensions Support, Releases Extension Gallery

Apple has released a new version of Safari 5.0.1 with extension support enabled. Along with this, the official extensions gallery has also been enabled for the users to use the extensions of Safari 5.0.1. The extension support was introduced with Safari 5 for the developers only, to create extensions using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

Safari 5 was introduced in June with major changes made in the web browser including improved HTML5 support, Safari Reader, performance improvement, Bing search and much more. You can read complete features of Safari 5.

CUPERTINO, California—July 28, 2010—Apple® today released Safari® 5.0.1, turning on Safari Extensions and introducing the Safari Extensions Gallery. Apple introduced extensions support in Safari 5 in June so developers could begin creating extensions with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript web standards. With Safari Extensions Gallery, users can quickly find extensions that add powerful new features to Safari, from toolbars that display live web feeds to sophisticated programs that filter web content. Safari 5.0.1 allows users to download and install extensions either from the Safari Extensions Gallery or directly from a developer’s site. Read More here

Access the Safari Extensions Gallery from the browser menu or visit extensions.apple.com for the same. Search for your favorite extensions in the gallery, download and install them. Just like Google Chrome, you don’t even need to restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

The extensions have been signed and sandboxed for improved security.

Firefox 4 Beta 2 Now Available for Download

Firefox 4 has been updated to second beta, which is now available in 23 languages. The update brings tabs on top of the browser for Mac and Windows users. Firefox 4 beta 1 was released a few weeks ago with new features including revamped UI and extended support for HTML5, WebM and HD video standards.

According to mozilla, the tabs have been moved to the top to make it easier to focus on the Web content and easier to control the tools in Web browser.

Release Notes:

Firefox 4 Beta 2 is available in 24 languages.

Tabs are now on top by default on Windows and OSX - Linux will be changing when the theme has been modified to support the change.

You can turn any tab into an “App Tab” by right-clicking on it and selecting “Make into App Tab” from the context menu.

Web developers can animate content using CSS Transitions.

Responsiveness and scrolling improvements from the new retained layers layout system.

JavaScript speed improvements due to engine optimizations.

Changes to how XPCOM components are registered in order to help startup time and process separation.

Apple Releases iOS 4.1 Beta 2 to Developers for iPhone 4, 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch

Apple has pushed an update to its developer version of its latest firmware for iPhone 4, iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Touch. This is an update to the iOS 4.1 first beta released 2 weeks ago. Both the firmware and SDK are available from the iPhone Developer Center.

What’s new in iOS 4.1 Beta 2 ?

Fixed signal bars
New baseband [02.07.01]
Game Center updated with a new look
Repositioned Camera Switch and Flash buttons in landscape mode
You can now choose to add Favorite as voice or FaceTime
Spell Check can be turned off in Settings
FaceTime and Game Center Parental Controls

Microsoft has teamed up with Blue Line Innovations to release Hohm PowerCost Monitor and WiFi Gateway. A device that allows you to examine the real-time data about the energy utilization in your house providing a way to save money and energy spent on various household devices.

The device can be attached to a household power utility meter without any wiring. The WiFi Gateway device updates every 30 seconds, wirelessly transmitting energy usage data to the consumer’s Microsoft Hohm account, providing energy recommendations as well. The data in the form of graphs and charts makes it easy for the users to identify usage patterns and potential problems.

Apple has already issued a statement regarding the delay in availability of white iPhone 4. This came as a shocker for those who had help up for the white iPhone 4, since it won’t be available till the end of 2010.

While Apple is itself struggling to get past the antenna related issues with iPhone 4, offering free bumpers to iPhone 4 buyers, the delay may be due to some hardware related issues or just to avoid the shortage due to overwhelming response.

But, Nitrozac and Snaggy at Joy of Tech have tried to add a touch of humor to the whole episode with their new comic. They are giving their own reasons to console the fanboys and make them happy!
