We’ve all cycled through PCs and notebooks and there always comes a time when you can’t upgrade your PC any more, or even sell it. The only option left is to sell it off as scrap or let it lie around gathering dust. However, there are a number of things that you can do with your old PC by just installing a bunch of software on it. Here are a few of our suggestions.

As a Home Theatre PC

We’ve already spoken of this in the past. One of the easiest things to do with an old PC or notebook is to use it as an HTPC. All you need to do is connect it to a TV or a large screen using a connector -preferably HDMI - or any other option available.

Your old PC - your home entertainment playback system

Once you’ve done that, all you need to do is install a free HTPC software called XBMC. The software has a simple user interface, similar to those found on media players and consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The software also supports Android remote controls apps and DLNA, so you can even stream media from one PC to another over the network. XBMC is available for Windows, Linux, OS X and even as a liveCD called XBMbuntu.

As a remote torrent downloader

Many of us download torrents. It’s one of the most convenient ways to download content off the web without much trouble. There are many different clients available for different platforms. uTorrent is one of the most popular torrent clients available for Windows. The program is tiny and runs in the background, consuming close to no resources at all. With an old, low-power PC, you can have it downloading data all the time. You can even remotely control it over your network or even over the Internet on your mobile phone.

Remotely control torrent downloads

To do this, download and install uTorrent and then enable the WebUI component from the Preferences menu. Now, create a scheduled task in Windows that forces uTorrent to load in the background without having to log in. This way, uTorrent always runs in the background without you having to manually start it. Also, set a download folder in uTorrent so newly-added torrents download directly to that folder. Subsequently, register for a free domain service such as DDNS so accessing your PC is easier. Now, with webUI enabled, you can access the uTorrent interface on a PC, notebook, tablet or even your phone. Remember to look out for free uTorrent apps for your mobile platform. If you prefer using Linux, there are other alternatives such as rTorrent andTransmission.

As a NAS device at home

Our homes are increasingly connected these days .Every device seems to have some kind of network connectivity option. People these days use one or two PCs, a notebook, a smartphone, and sometimes, even a tablet. There’s a lot of data that transferred around and it’s ideal to have a single server that takes care of all your data needs.

You can use one of your existing PCs or notebooks and attach a large enough hard drive to it, say 1 or 2 TB, depending on your requirements. If you’re going to be streaming movies and music, you’d need this kind of space. For photos and documents, even a 500 GB hard drive may be more than sufficient. In the case of a notebook, you can simply use an external hard drive. In the case of a PC, an internal hard drive is the more economical option available.

While it’s possible to enable file sharing on Windows or Linux, it’s better to use more specialised software. FreeNAS is a specialised NAS server software that is basically a very light-weight operating system; it is just a 96 MB download. You can configure the server via the software using a web interface, remotely. You won’t even need to use a monitor to use the server. All you do is burn the image on a disc and install it on your PC or notebook. The software supports pretty much every popular file system out there. You can use this network server to stream movies to your HTPC or even as a full-fledged data server.

Set up a full-fledged web server

If you’ve always wanted to host your own site, you can do it using a simple web server, but there are other environments such as MySQL and Perl that are required to make it all come together. You also need a relatively fast internet connection with decent upload speeds. Fortunately, instead of having to install and configure each aspect of a web server manually, there are easy solutions available in the form of LAMP or WAMP servers. They’re basically a package of web server software with all the additional components pre-configured.

Setup your own little web site

One of the popular WAMP servers for Windows is called, well, WampServer, and it’s available for download free of cost. WampServer gives you an infinite number of possibilities once you have it installed. There are packages for setting up a web site, for setting up galleries and even forums, available for download. Most of these are free and you’d usually have to pay for them if you were to use the server, but with your own infrastructure setup, running a site is completely free.

As a PBX board

While most of the solutions we’ve spoken of so far are free, setting up a PBX (private branch exchange) board isn’t. A PBX basically allows you to set up a voice communication system within your office. This isn’t useful for regular home users, but SoHo users will find this extremely handy. Other than the hardware, there’s no real expense whatsoever.

Using your old PC as a voice-comm server

The first thing to do is install the hardware components in your PC. Then, you can install Asterisk, a popular, free PBX software as a package on your Linux operating system, or even the entire software using a distribution called AsteriskNOW that’s available on the Asterisk site. Once set up, you'll be able to make phone calls using just a few lines and even receive calls from outside via a voice-guided system. There's also the potential to use VoIP to make calls over the web.

As a retro gaming console

If you’re using an old notebook or PC, one of the fun things you could do is to actually install a game emulator of your choice on it. This will let you play games from your/your father's childhood on your TV. These titles have very low system requirements, so emulators will run on pretty much any hardware. You can then delete any accounts you have on Windows except for one so Windows directly boots to the desktop.

Simply create a shortcut to the emulator in the Windows Startup folder. This way, Windows will load up directly into the emulator. It’s also advisable to install two game consoles so two users can game on the PC connected to a large monitor or TV. ZSNES, for example is a popular emulator for Super Nintendo titles. There are similar titles for the Nintendo 64 and the first Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

Ubisoft holding Assassin's Creed event on February 27:TECH4COMP

Looks like it’s about time for a new Assassin’s Creed game. According to a tweet by MCV, Ubisoft is going to hold an event on February 27. The interesting thing is that the event is said to be centred around the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The most probable outcome of the event is bound to be the announcement of a new Assassin’s Creed game, as Ubisoft has an annual cycle with the series.

It could be interesting to speculate on what the next Assassin’s Creed game may be about. Previous games have been about Desmond and his ancestry, but with the definitive end of his story in Assassin’s Creed III, one has to wonder if Ubisoft will still stick to the Animus plot device, or whether the company will ditch all pretense and keep the game set in some time during history without any science-fiction elements.

Considering that the event is a whole week after Sony’s imminent PlayStation event, one could also speculate that Ubisoft will be unveiling a new Assassin’s Creed game for the next-gen PlayStation. This could also mean that the PlayStation 4 will come out in October or November, as those are the months when Assassin’s Creed games are generally released every year.

Recently, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told investors that the company is working on a new installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, and it will feature a new protagonist in a new setting. Guillemot made the announcement during an earnings call presentation where he also noted that the last iteration of the game, Assassin's Creed III, has sold 12 million units worldwide. Gaming analysts expect that the new game will be announced at the coming E3 video game expo in Los Angeles this June.

Back in January, the company had released a new DLC for the multiplayer component of Assassin's Creed III. The DLC, titled the Battle Hardened Pack, was included as part of the Assassin's Creed III Season Pass. The pack included new characters such as the Governor, the Highlander and the Coyote Man, and it also featured new maps of Charlestown, Fort St-Mathieu and Saint Pierre. Along with these, there were new achievements and trophies for those who have explored the main game to its fullest.

Late last year, Ubisoft had revealed that Assassin's Creed III is the fastest selling game in the company's history. According to the company, in solo missions alone, players have accumulated more than 82 centuries of gaming time and committed more than 3 billion assassinations.

The Assassin’s Creed series deals with a secret war between Assassins and Templars that has gone on for millennia. The Assassins are fighting to preserve the free will of people while the Templars seek to control the masses. The first game was set during the Holy Crusades in Jerusalem and had protagonist Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad jumping from rooftops and sneaking into groups of people in order to identify and assassinate his targets. The second game was set during the Renaissance era in Florence. The main protagonist here was Ezio Auditore, who starts out as a vengeful teenager and ends up as a highly-skilled master of Assassins. Altaïr also featured in this sequel and the aged assassin’s last few days are shown. The secondary protagonist of the series is Desmond Miles. The last game in the series puts you in the shoes and body of Connor Kenway, as you witness the American Revolution take its course.

Acer Aspire S7 MS2363 Review:TECH4COMP

Ultrabooks and hybrid PCs can be truly remarkable pieces of hardware but in order to find them, you have to look at the ones costing close to a lakh as these are generally the flagship models. We’ve already seen some from Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Sony and now, it’s time to take a look at Acer’s flagship offering called the Aspire S7.

Design and Build
The notebook has a killer design and is guaranteed to turn heads as soon as you take it out of your bag. The Aspire S7 features an incredibly sleek aluminium body that’s just 12.2mm thick when closed. Add to this the diamond-like mosaic pattern on the lid and we have one extremely good looking notebook. The body is scratch resistant and so is the glass protecting the screen which happens to be Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2. The hinge is incredibly sturdy as well and opens to almost 180 degrees.

Despite the slim chassis, the S7 features two USB 3.0 ports, headphone jack, a microSD card slot and a microHDMI port around the back. The ultrabook also features two break-out adapters for LAN and VGA. The LAN adapter is powered by a USB port whereas the VGA adapter slots into the microHDMI port. You could alternately also use a microHDMI to regular HDMI cable. Also in the box is the charging adapter, a carrying pouch and an expandable battery pack. This secondary battery strip clips onto the back and docks with the charging port, thereby extending the S7’s battery life. You can use the notebook without the battery pack as well, if you don’t want the excess bulk. The battery is completely sealed up and we have large vents at the back for releasing the hot air. The dual fan mechanism of sucking in cool air from one end and releasing it from the other keeps the Aspire S7 quite cool under normal working conditions.

Opening up the lid, we find a generous trackpad and backlit, island styled keys. Acer has gone with aqua blue backlighting instead of the typical white. This looks cool and is also easy on the eyes in the dark. We would have liked for the backlit keys to automatically kick in once the ambient light dims, but that doesn’t happen. The S7 is not exactly a hybrid but rather a standard Ultrabook with a touchscreen. There’s no secret switch to flip it into tablet mode or any such trickery.

Features
Speaking of displays, the S7 crams in 1920 x 1080 worth of pixels into an 11.6-inch screen, resulting in extremely sharp images and text. The LED backlit TFT LCD display is also very bright so you can easily use it outdoors. The model we received (MS2363) is powered by an Intel Core i7-3517U running at 1.9GHz. RAM maxes out at 4GB and we have SSDs in RAID 0 configurations, racking up the storage capacity to 256GB. This sort of SSD configuration is the first we’ve seen in Ultrabooks and should blow the roof off when it comes to read/write speeds. The S7 runs on Windows 8 64-bit and comes bundled with McAfee trial version and some Acer apps like cloud storage, maintenance, backup and restore, etc.

Performance
The Acer Aspire S7 is easily one of the most powerful Ultrabooks you’ll find in the market. This is not because of the Core i7 CPU but has more to do with the two SSDs in RAID. The read and write speeds are off the charts and are easily more than double the speeds we’ve seen in Ultrabooks to date. What’s really remarkable is that Acer has managed to fit all of this into such a slim chassis. Windows 8 is already known to be quick and on the S7, it simply flies. Waiting time to open and install apps is close to instantaneous and loading times for anything are almost non-existent. Take a look at the score sheet compared to the other Ultrabooks we’ve tested.

The S7 manages to stay cool under normal operations but once the CPU usage increases, the fans kick in. This causes a very audible sound, which can get a bit annoying after a while. The notebook does get hot but it’s mostly the area above the keyboard while underneath it stays warm, so it’s still comfortable to use on your lap. The touchscreen, while being super sensitive and accurate, is not of much use since you can’t use the S7 in true tablet mode. It’s nice for flipping through pictures and stuff but that’s about it. You anyways have all the Windows 8 gestures mapped to the trackpad anyways so we could’ve done with a regular screen as well. The keyboard has good spacing but the keys themselves feel a little too rigid as there’s not much travel. This does not give you as much confidence when typing so it could be an issue if your work involves a lot of typing, like mine for instance. The trackpad works well and the mouse buttons are easy to click without having to use much effort. Finally, the S7’s speakers have the Dolby Home Theatre enhancements, which manage surprisingly good audio quality and volume given the size of the chassis.

Battery Life
With the extra battery attached, the Aspire S7 ran for 2-hours and 20-minutes in Battery Eater Pro, which roughly translates to about 4-5-hours of actual, real-world usage. Without the extra battery pack, you still get a respectable 1 hour and 10 minutes in Battery Eater Pro, which is what most mid-range, 15-inch notebooks deliver. The reason we’re calling this respectable is because the S7 is less than half the size of most mid-range notebooks and a lot slimmer than most Ultrabooks for that matter.

New arrests in News of the World phone-hacking probe:TECH4COMP

London (CNN) -- Six people were arrested Wednesday in what London's Metropolitan Police is calling a separate phone-hacking conspiracy at Rupert Murdoch's defunct News of the World newspaper.

All of them are journalists or former journalists, police said.

Tabloid hacking report: Who won? Who lost?

Dozens of people, including Murdoch protégé Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, a former adviser to prime Minister David Cameron, already have been arrested and several have been charged with phone hacking and related crimes.

Police say Wednesday's arrests are part of a separate conspiracy to hack phones, primarily from 2005 to 2006, at the News of the World.

How Murdoch bounced back from his 'most humble day'

Three men and two women were arrested in London and one woman in Cheshire, in northern England.

Searches are being carried out at several addresses, police said.

"In due course officers will be making contact with people they believe have been victims of the suspected voicemail interceptions," a police statement said.

Murdoch closed the Sunday tabloid, one of the world's best-selling English-language newspapers, in 2011 over the phone-hacking scandal.

Three police investigations were created to look into allegations of phone hacking, bribery of public officials and computer hacking.

Brooks and Coulson are both former News of the World editors. Brooks later became chief executive of News International, a UK subsidiary of Murdoch's News Corp. empire. Coulson went on to become Cameron's director of communications before resigning early in 2011.

Facebook hacked,says no user data loss:TECH4COMP

Facebook says it was recently hacked, though it says no data about its more than a billion users was compromised.

The company described the "sophisticated attack" in a blog post on Friday, saying it took place in January when a small number of employees visited a compromised website that installed malware on their machines.

"As soon as we discovered the presence of the malware, we remediated all infected machines, informed law enforcement and began a significant investigation that continues to this day," Facebook Security said in the post.

Facebook, the largest social network in the world, is the latest high-profile site to be hacked this year. Twitter announced a similar intrusion earlier this month, and major news organizations including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post have also admitted to being hacked.

The news sites attributed the breaches to hackers working for the Chinese government, but neither Facebook nor Twitter mention China when describing their attacks.

"Facebook was not alone in this attack. It is clear that others were attacked and infiltrated recently as well," said the blog post. "As one of the first companies to discover this malware, we immediately took steps to start sharing details about the infiltration with the other companies and entities that were affected. "

Unlike Twitter, Facebook said it has found no evidence that any user information was compromised. Twitter said that user names, encrypted passwords and e-mail addresses for as many as 250,000 users were potentially grabbed by the hackers. It reset passwords for all affected accounts.

The string of hacks have primarily exploited vulnerabilities in the programming language Java, which is installed on most computers by default. Facebook said the site responsible for its attack took advantage of a previously unknown Java vulnerability, which Oracle patched on February 1.

In January, the Department of Homeland Security issued an alert about the security-challenged software and recommended people turn it off on their computers. Apple turned off Java by default for its OS X users as a precaution. Full instructions on how to disable Java on any computer can be found on Oracle's website. If you must use Java, make sure that you have downloaded the latest updates, which include key security patches.

Facebook said it will continue to work with law enforcement and others in the industry to prevent future attacks.

Sony’s twin 5-inch full HD phones have surely put the Japanese electronic giant back on the smartphone map. The company was in danger of becoming irrelevant after releasing phones with outdated hardware at the wrong time. However, this year, Sony was bang on time with the Xperia announcements at CES in January.

The Xperia twins – Z and ZL – have a lot of specs in common, but a few differences as well. So it makes sense to bring the two under one banner. Then there’s the fact that Sony Mobile’s India website lists both as coming soon to India. A March release is what rumours predict, but whenever they do, the two phones will have enough time in the market before the Samsung Galaxy S4 juggernaut rolls around.

OS – Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Sony’s customised skin
The Xperia Z and ZL are the first Sony phones to launch with Jelly Bean on board. Besides the Project Butter goodies, JB also brings in an improved notification drawer. Sony has decided to slap their own customised skin on top of the stock UI. This is not a bad thing per se; the UI looks more or less similar to stock, without adding any extraneous bulk like Timescape or Mediascape, which brought down Sony’s earlier phones. However, it does give some more options for users to customise their homescreens, including adding and removing them, unlike stock Android.

Cellular network – LTE-ready
Both phones are LTE-ready handsets but support different bands depending on the country-specific variants. The various bands supported are 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 for GSM, 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 for HSDPA and 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 for LTE. Both phones use Micro SIMs for cellular connectivity.

Display – 5-inch full HD
Both the Z and ZL have the same display and a stellar one at that. The 5-inch full HD screen has a resolution of 1920 X 1080. Besides, Sony has included their homebrewed Bravia Mobile Engine 2 feature that makes colours more vivid and enhances brilliance, while watching videos or viewing images. Both smartphones are also decked up with shatter-proof and scratch-resistant glass to keep the glorious display away from harm.

Form factor and weight – Z is waterproof, ZL is a tiny dynamite
Sony has gone two different ways when designing the two phones. Even though they share the internals, there is a good deal of difference in their sizes. The Xperia Z, for starters, is an impossible 7.9mm thin and Sony has managed to do that and also give it water-proof and dust-proof capabilities. It is IP57 certified, which means it is water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes. Design wise, the Z is a block of glass with cutouts on the side to fit in the volume buttons, the classy and hard-to-miss power button and of course various flaps to cover the USB ports, the 3.5mm audio jack and the SIM and microSD slots. It features a glass back that is unbroken save for the camera lens on the top left corner. It looks to be a very solidly built handset from close-up pictures.

The Xperia ZL, on the other hand, is slightly thicker at 9.8mm, but it has a smaller footprint. To put it in perspective, the Xperia Z is 139mm tall, while the ZL, with the same screen real estate, is only 131.6mm tall. That actually makes it shorter than the Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, both of which have smaller displays. A 5-inch screen on a smaller body makes great sense, especially for people with smaller hands. Sony has to be commended for this engineering feat at a time when most manufacturers don’t mind going bigger. The ZL is not water or dustproof like its brother, but instead brings easy access to ports through a small flip cover on the back. The back itself loses the glass in favour of a more grippy surface, less likely to slide off angled desks.

Wi-Fi – Everything but the sink
In this department, Sony has thrown all the WLAN features one could ask for. The Xperia Z supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n bands, but the ZL loses support for a band and also does not have dual-band Wi-Fi. Multimedia content can be sent to your TV or HTPC thanks to the DLNA support and Wi-Fi Direct can be used to share files with other phones on the same WLAN connection. Both also have the Wi-Fi hotspot capability to share the phone’s Wi-Fi connection with other devices.

SoC – Quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU
For once Sony has kept up with the competition and launched phones with the latest chipsets. It has included the same processor-GPU combo in both phones, so performance wise there shouldn’t be any difference. Speaking of performance, early reviews state that the phones pretty much fly through any task and commend Sony for optimising the processor’s performance for their Android skin. The Qualcomm MDM9215M or APQ8064 chip has four Krait cores, clocked at 1.5GHz each. The Adreno 320 GPU has performed admirably in the past and we have no reason to doubt that the CPU-GPU combo shouldn’t blaze through everyday tasks and Android menus.

Storage – 16GB internal memory with microSD slots
Both phones have the same 16GB of internal storage and pack in microSD card expansion slots. This is especially cool considering the Xperia Z is water-proof. In the Z, this is under a flap on the left side of the phone, while the ZL has a small door on the back, which can be pulled open to access the card slot. Surprisingly, the maximum storage capacity differs in the Z and ZL. The former has a maximum expansion of 32GB, but the ZL gets double that.

Rear cameras
The camera on the Xperia Z is touted to be one of the best performers out there. The 13.1 megapixel Exmor RS sensor on the Z has great features. It comes with an LED flash and has support for geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, image stabilisation, HDR and Sony’s 3D sweep panorama. It can also shoot 1080p video and in recording mode has continuous autofocus, a video light, video stabiliser function and HDR video, a first for smartphones. The Xperia ZL’s camera is a 13-megapixel one, with the same sensor. However, it does not have the video HDR mode. A nice touch in the ZL is the inclusion of the physical shutter key, which has not been included in the Xperia Z for reasons of waterproofing.

Front-facing cameras
The phones have slightly different front-facing cameras too. The Xperia ZL goes for an odd placement of this camera. It is on the bottom right corner of the phone, below the display. Sony claims this setup is better for a wider view of the subject during video calls or self-shots. This one is a two megapixel camera and can also shoot 1080p video. The Xperia Z has a more traditional front-facing camera placement and has a 2.2 megapixel sensor, also capable of full HD videos at 30fps.

Sensors – The basics covered
Accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensors and compass are found on both handsets. Some variants of the Xperia ZL also have a barometer to get an air pressure reading.

GPS – Just like the rest
Nothing out of the ordinary here. Sony has built in GLONASS support as well as Assisted GPS. Most modern phones come with these and it would have been a glaring omission.

NFC
Both phones have NFC chips and Sony has even released a wide range of accessories and speakers to use this feature. You can also buy programmable tags or chips and assign actions like enabling Wi-Fi or putting the phone in silent mode, which will get activated when the phone comes in contact with the tags. Sony has a number of apps on the Google Play Store as well that can be used with NFC-enabled devices.

Battery – 2330 MaH on the Xperia Z and 2370 MaH on the Xperia ZL
Surprisingly, Sony has put in a slightly lower capacity battery on the Xperia Z. Even so, that much juice should ideally get you through the entire day, with moderate usage. Heavy email users and gamers might need to carry the charger or a battery pack. Neither phone’s battery is accessible or removable.

The bottom line
We have yet to see the Xperia twins in person, but on paper, both look rock solid. The Xperia Z has the advantage of being impervious to liquids and dust. So you can actually record your shower songs if the thought strikes. The Xperia ZL on the other hand is an engineering feat, one that we want more manufacturers to explore. At the moment, it is hard to pick between the two. While it’s great that the Xperia Z is water-proof, it does come at the cost of having to fiddle with flaps every time you want to charge it or use the headphone jack. The Xperia ZL also has some demerits – the door on the back to access the Micro SIM and microSD card comes to mind.

Going just by specifications, they sound absolutely phenomenal. The HTC Butterfly is the only full HD phone to be launched in India and the new Xperias will be in direct competition with it. We found the Butterfly to be an admirable performer in our review. It will be interesting to see how the Xperia Z and ZL fare in comparison. We can’t wait to get our hands on both the handsets. Anonymous India hacks IIPM and 16 other URLs:TECH4COMP

Anonymous India, in a recent protest against the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) blockade of 78 URLs that criticised a private MBA institution, hacked and brought downIIPM’s (Indian Institute of Planning and Management) website on Saturday. The blockade had been directed by a Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Februray 14, 2013. News of the hack attack has been trending across Twitter and has seen a barrage of comments from the Twitterrati.

Reports have it that the hacker group kept the IIPM’s URL, and 16 other links carrying content from IIPM, down and out for 9 hours. The online community was in an uproar over the blockade as it seemed to indicate how a private body made unjust use of the Indian judiciary to clean its reputation online.

The blockade came as a shock to 73 of the 78 URL owners which were taken down under the court’s directive without prior intimation to the owners. Medianama, the first website to post the news, was in fact one of the websites that belongs to the list of blocked URLs, which also includes that of University Grants Commission (UGC). Nikhil Pahwa of Medianama had posted the “order”, a PDF document issued by DoT, owing to which the online media fraternity was informed about the blockade. It also seems like a mockery of India’s education system whereby UGC, a deemed government education set up, has been gagged by a local judiciary body.

UGC’s portal carried a notice released in July 2012 which mentioned that “IIPM is not a university within the meaning of section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956”. Reports further add that in reaction to this notice, IIPM Founder, Arindham Chaudhari, stated that he was proud of the fact that IIPM was not affiliated to a corrupt institution like that of UGC and that he is glad that malicious content on IIPM is off the web.

Chaudhari also made a comment on Firstpost saying, “I suspect that UGC — at the behest of some of our petty competitors with dirty past records of filth and cheating, and public notices against them — had been deliberately spreading misleading information about IIPM to hurt its business interests and had even gone to the extent of falsely calling IIPM a fake university.”

Perhaps, the self-proclaimed marketing guru is glad that his private institution has come into the limelight without many efforts from his end. The controversy has definitely given mileage to Chaudhari’s crusade against those who have been accusing IIPM for making a business out of middle class MBA aspirants.

First fully transparent smartphone could be here by end of 2013:TECH4COMP

For the sci-fi fans waiting patiently for futuristic tech to become a reality since the dawn of the 21st century, here is news you can use – a company called Polytron Technolgies, based out of Taiwan, has revealed a prototype of what could be the very first transparent smartphone. The part of the news to be excited about is that you can have a date with the technology for real by the end of this year. “It will happen near the end of 2013. Trust me,” said Polytron General Manager Sam Yu to IBN Live.

The Taiwanese manufacturer has used what it has termed “Polyvision Privacy Glass” to devise this transparent handset. The technology behind it is what Polytron calls “Switchable Glass”, which is in actuality a conductive OLED display. As Polytron puts it, “the liquid crystal molecules line up, the incident light passes through and Polyvision looks clear."

Polytron Technologies can also be credited with a lot of other transparent tech based on the Privacy Polyvision Glass concept. It describes itself as “a specialty, architectural glass company, supplying high quality Polyvision Privacy Glass (switchable glass, Polyvision Film), POLYMAGIC LED Glass (LED glass, LED film), Polyholo Glass (holographic glass, Polyholo film), Polyflush Glass (Polyflush Film), PolyGlow Glass (PolyGlow Film), Polyscreen Glass (Polyscreen films),Polyrainbow Glass (Polyrainbow films), Polytouch Frame, Polyheat Glass, Polydigit Glass, Polydisplay Glass and more."

The manufacturer has issued pictures of the prototype featuring a microSD card slot, a microphone, space for the battery and a camera. There hasn’t been any word on any other hardware or even an OS for the device yet. The company intends to use microscopic wires that will be embedded right in to the glass. There’s also mention of the handset supporting full multi-touch capabilities with the option to even use the phone from either side. For the hardware that can’t be rendered transparent for obvious reasons, there will be an opaque cover to hide them. This would probably be positioned at the bottom end of the device.

There are high expectations from the products, especially from those of us with a love of science fiction as well as the general development of mobile technology with regards to the resolution and display size, rendering of videos and web content, viewing angles, privacy etc. Meanwhile, there are also apprehensions about the usability of the handset under sunlight and its brightness. The commercial viability of the phone can only be predicted after it goes into production.

With the advent of OLED technology, a lot of prototypes based on this display type promised transparent TVs, computers and laptops, and other gadgets to be a part of our world some day. However, Polytron’s transparent handset is the only product that is offering a virtually invisible phone. It seems like Sony’s Xperia Pureness is about to have a major competitor and could surpass all that Sony has developed for the limited edition device.

While we wait for it to go in for mass production, there are a couple of other prototypes we are hoping will see light of the day sooner than promised, or at least in tune with our worldly expectations. The Harvard Business Review scorecard for 2013 ranks the financial and corporate social performance of CEOs across the world. Here's a look at the 10 best performing tech CEOs from that list.

James D. Taiclet, Jr., was crowned the President of American Tower Corporation in September 2001 and also took over the role of Chief Executive Officer from October 10, 2003. His overall ranking on the HBR 2013 list is 48.

John W Thomson, might be heading Virtual Instruments but his work as the CEO of Symantec Corporation has earned him an overall ranking of 41 on the HBR 2013 scorecard and ninth on this list.

HBR 2013 has given the 35th rank to Eric E. Schmidt of Google. The company has added $143 billion in the last one year and he is the eighth best performing tech CEO.

Colt Telecom Group's Paul Chisholm has been ranked 25th best-performing CEO. He is the Chief Executive Officer of mindSHIFT since 2003.

The 46 year old, Daniel Hajj Aboumrad serves as the CEO of America Movil. America Movil,is one of the companies owned by the Mexican businessman Carlos Slim. He has been ranked 18 on the HBR 2013 list.

Bill Gates talks Windows 8, Steve Jobs and philanthropy at Reddit AMA

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft conducted a fun ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on Reddit on Monday answering questions about Steve Jobs, Windows products and his pet philanthropy project. He went on to answer over 30 questions, some about the company he founded, his new Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and some about his personal life.

When quizzed about the type of computer he currently uses, Gates said that he had just received his Surface Pro and to answer the AMA he was using a Perceptive Pixel display, an 80-inch Windows 8 touch whiteboard and posted a picture of him using it. And yes, he does use Internet Explorer.

Gates also surprised more than a few Redditors when he said that Windows 8 was a huge advance for the OS. He asserted that people will see his line of thought better as ‘great applications and hardware come out’. When asked to choose between Windows 7 and Windows 8 honestly, Gates replied, tongue-in-cheek, "Higher is better."

He confirmed that he indeed used Bing and not Google. “Seriously Bing is the better product at this point. Try the challenge. I am biased but the work to make Bing better has been amazing,” he replied candidly.

The topic obviously shifted to Steve Jobs and the relationship Gates shared with Apple honcho as Redditors got a chance to personally address him. Gates said that he and Jobs respected each other. “Our biggest joint project was the Mac where Microsoft had more people on the project than Apple did as we wrote a lot of applications. I saw Steve regularly over the years including spending an afternoon with him a few months before he tragically passed away,” he wrote. Gates also mentioned that he has tried a lot of Apple products ‘from time to time’ indicating that he has always been with the competition.

The software genius lamented that he doesn’t code as much as he’d like to these days, mentioning that he writes some C, C# and Basic. Talking about Microsoft, gates said that the one product that excited him there but never made it to release was WinFS, a smart cloud storage system that was "ahead of its time".

Now involved heavily with philanthropic work with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates also spoke about Polio eradication amongst other issues that need to be addressed in South Asia. “India is making progress but there is still a lot to do particularly up in the North. They still need to add some of the vaccines that poorer countries are already using and saving lots of lives. India did a great job on polio and is increasing the health budget. We work closely with the federal and state governments to help out,” he wrote.

Gates also displayed a brilliant sense of humour that bowled Reddit over. He posted a meme displaying a very old, nearly embarrassing image of his, with the words ‘Still trying to delete this photo from the internet. Any ideas?’ in reference to the recent Beyonce fiasco where she wanted an unflattering image of hers pulled off the Internet. (If only she knew that the Internet doesn’t work that way.) The irony was not lost on us, Bill.

Asteroid 2012 DA14's close shave with Earth has inspired Friday's Google doodle. The animated doodle sees the second 'g' jump out of the way just before an asteroid heads it way.

This is one of the most subtle doodles we've seen in recent times and if you spend less than a few seconds of the home page, you are unlikely to notice anything as the Google logo starts off like normal. This is in contrast to the "in your face" doodles that we see at most times, similar to the George Ferris Google doodle that we saw on Valentine's Day.

Asteroid 2012 DA14 will come closer to Earth than any previous object of its size during a Friday-night fly-by, but the space rock poses no danger to the planet, NASA has said.

"No Earth impact is possible," Donald Yeomans, an asteroid expert at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in Pasadena, California, told the media.

At its closest approach, DA14 will be 27,300 km from Earth, about a tenth of the distance between here and the Moon. The asteroid will be traveling 27,700 kph when it careens past the Earth at around 19.40 GMT Friday, according to NASA's Near-Earth Object Program Office, which has been tracking DA14 since it was discovered a year ago by scientists at La Sagra Observatory in Spain.

Though the asteroid is about 13 stories tall, it will not be visible to the naked eye.

DA14 will pass inside the orbits of geosynchronous communications satellites, but far above the altitude of the International Space Station, NASA said.

An asteroid the size of DA14 approaches the Earth roughly every four decades, while impacts occur at intervals of roughly 1,200 years, Yeomans said.

The most recent significant asteroid impact was in 1908, when a space rock crashed in Tunguska, Siberia. The explosion flattened trees for hundreds of square kilometres.

Handling updates in Windows has always been a pain. While over the years the OS update service has become more streamlined, it’s still very confusing. At the moment, various teams working on each of the company’s products release updates for their specific software every two to three years.

To end this, Microsoft is preparing a Windows Blue OS update to put the platform on an affordable, yearly update schedule. Windows Blue is scheduled to launch sometime later this year and now a job listing showed the first official mention of the project.

The vacancy is for a software development engineer for the "Core Experience team" to work on the touch experience and UI navigation aspects of the software.

The listing says: “We’re looking for an excellent, experienced SDET to join the Core Experience team in Windows Sustained Engineering (WinSE). The Core Experience features are the centerpiece of the new Windows UI, representing most of what customers touch and see in the OS, including: the start screen; application lifecycle; windowing; and personalization. Windows Blue promises to build and improve upon these aspects of the OS, enhancing ease of use and the overall user experience on devices and PCs worldwide.”

The Verge reports that Windows Blue could debut in Q2 of 2013. Another job posting confirms that Microsoft will bring Blue to Windows Phone too. The company is looking for a senior development lead in the Office team and help in building the spreadsheet or the Excel part of the app for Windows Phone Blue.

Earlier reports suggest that Blue may be the company’s attempt to bring updates to all its services like Skydrive, Outlook mail, Skype, Windows Server as well as a slew of the company’s software products. This means the updates will all be rolled together instead of a programme-by-programme basis. Microsoft hopes to have a competitive edge over rivals Apple and Google. Windows Blue updates are likely to bring new versions of Internet Explorer, Bing and other apps, as well as kernel and driver updates to help improve the Windows experience for the end user. It is akin to a firmware update.

To reduce fragmentation of apps, Microsoft is aiming to make Windows Blue the big overarching OS allowing the company to price its future releases at a low cost. Once Blue is officially released, the Windows SDK will be updated and Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built specifically for either its mobile or PC platforms. Instead, developers will be urged to create apps for Blue, which will feed the apps to the relevant stores depending on whether it is a Windows Phone app or a PC app.

In a bid to end the piracy of its software, Microsoft is expected to make the Blue upgrade only available to PCs running a genuine copy of Windows. Built-in apps and the Windows Store will cease functioning if a Blue upgrade is sideloaded or force-installed on a device running a pirated copy

myXperia service Which helps you to track down your lost Sony Xperia

Sony has been constanly releasing new features for its Xperia line-up. First the company released a tool for those tinkering with various ROMs to flash back to stock Sony firmware. Now it has launched a free missing phone locator service for owners of Xperia smartphones.

The service is currently only open to devices in Nordic countries and offers remote locking of devices and GPS tracking of a missing smartphone or tablet. Sony says it will roll out myXperia to a larger audience by the end of Q1 and the beginning of Q2.

Essentially, one can use the service to locate a missing device by plotting in the current location of the device on a map on the myXperia website. The features offered by Sony are not unique by any standards. Indeed, there are competing apps on Google’s Play Store which have a similar feature to track misplaced phones. Even Apple’s iPhone has something on this line. However, a dedicated Sony service does add confidence to potential Xperia buyers, who might be vary of random apps on Google Play, given the sad malware situation.

When the service does roll out to other countries, it must be noted that you will have to visit the Sony Update Center on your phone to get the myXperia app.

After installation, the app will be a part of the Sony apps along with the likes of Facebook inside Xperia and LiveWare manager. The app runs silent in the background and the only option is to turn it on or off. Switched on, you will be able to manage the myXperia tools from the website. There are four options available when signed in to the site: Locate, Sound Alert, Lock and Erase.

The locate service will plot the device on a map on the website’s landing page. The Sound Alert will play a sound on the device and make it vibrate for 60 seconds to alert users if the phone is still nearby.

If more drastic measures are required, the Lock service will bar the device for other users and add a custom message on the smartphone screen to alert the current possessor. The lock can be opened with a 4-digit code, which has to be created in advance. There is also an optional phone number which can be entered by the owner, which creates a direct dial button on the phone. The Erase service will erase everything on the phone including, unfortunately, the myXperia app. There is also an option to erase data on the inserted memory card.

Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro Review

Hybrid laptops seems to be the mantra for all laptop manufacturers these days. It’s inevitable to not come out with one to counter competition. That’s the reason why we’re now witnessing a sudden flow of these convertible devices. Samsung’s offering in this segment is the ATIV series, which currently comprises two models for the Indian market—ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T and Smart PC 500T1C. We got our hands on the former, which competes with premium offerings by other brands such as the Sony Vaio Duo 11 and Dell XPS 12. Let’s find out how much punch it packs.

Design and features

Samsung has gone in with a detachable design for both the models in the ATIV series, just like the HP Envy X2. But there’s a difference; the keyboard dock that the ATIV bundles – a physical keyboard and a touchpad, plus you get two USB ports (one on each side). On the other hand, the dock of the Envy X2 is more utilitarian with HDMI output, card reader and a battery back that adds a couple of hours of battery life. That said, the detachable design makes the Samsung ATIV Smart PC primarily a tablet with an option to transform it into a laptop should the need arise—you want to use the tablet in “laptop mode” when you’re at your desk or if you need physical input devices to work efficiently. The Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro weighs 888 grams and the dock adds around 700 grams, which makes for a combined weight of 1.6 Kg—a tad heavy for an Ultrabook. Majority of the dock’s weight comes from the metal housing at the rear that supports the tablet. Samsung had no choice, as a plastic housing wouldn’t be sturdy enough to bear the weight and keep the screen steady.

The Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro uses the Ultrabook platform, similar to Dell XPS 12 and Sony Vaio Duo 11. In fact, it’s spec’ed very close to both. The core comprises a 1.7GHz Core i5-3317U processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. The most striking feature is the crisp 11.6-inch full HD display—thankfully, Samsung didn’t compromise by using a conventional 1366 x 768 pixel panel. As for connectivity, you have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Most of the buttons and ports are placed on the top side. The top panel of the laptop houses a headphone/mic combo jack, power button, screen orientation button and a USB 3.0 port covered by a plastic flap. Further, towards the right lies a microSD card slot. The left side has a micro HDMI port and volume rocker. All this is tightly packed in a slim 11.89 mm thick shell.

The digitiser is a bonus feature and you get a pen (called S Pen) that resides in the housing on the back. The bundled apps include apps is S Note with which you can draw or take notes using the S Pen. In addition to this, the S Pen comes in handy for editing photos and selecting text/objects. Samsung has bundled five additional tips and a tool to extract the tip.

Build quality

The biggest weakness of the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro is the average build quality. The shell is made of plastic and the rear has a brushed metal-like finish. The device looks good, but it feels plasticky—it doesn’t have the feel of a premium product. The build of the keyboard dock is even worse. Except for the metal housing that holds the tablet firmly in place, the rest is made of plastic. Although the housing feels solid, its hinge didn’t feel strong enough to bear the weight of the tablet. The tablet tends to wobble when using the touchscreen and you have to be careful when you’re folding it down on the dock. After bringing the tablet half way down, it tends to drop automatically with slight force due to the bulk.

We found something strange while using the review unit that was sent to us by Samsung. When using the tablet while it was docked to the keyboard, we could repeatedly hear notification sound of a USB device being unplugged and plugged. We found that it was because of a loose connection between the dock and the tablet. And this was despite the connector of the dock locking tightly, making a "click" sound. We tried reinserting several times and even cleaning the contact points, but the problem persisted. It was disappointing to face such a serious issue related to build quality, and that too with a premium product.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 Review:TECH4COMP

It’s not easy finding a high-end dual-SIM phone from a top-tier manufacturer. The only one available in the market until recently was the HTC Desire SV, which is a well-designed and built handset with an impressive spec sheet but is heavily crippled in the multimedia department due to its chipset. This leaves the playground wide open for the just launched Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos, which has been making a lot of noise in the market. We quite liked it when we first saw it, and now it’s time to put it through our gruelling tests to see if it manages to come through unscathed.

Design and build
The Grand Duos looks like a clone of the Note II, but with the finish and build of the S III. The phone seems a bit chunkier than the Note II and that chrome trim around the edge will wear off with time, so it’s better if you use a cover with it. The finish of the plastics is more akin to theGalaxy S III. The rear cover has a fine mosaic-like pattern which actually manages to mask most of your fingerprints. However, it does scratch easily if you’re not careful with your usage. The same goes for the chrome trim.

The Grand Duos feels strong and durable but is on the thicker side at 9.6 mm and quite heavy as well at 162 g. Just like the other Galaxy handsets, we have all the sensors lined up along with the front facing 2MP camera. The 5-inch display takes up most of the space in the front with a thin bezel on either side.

Underneath the rear cover, we have the two GSM SIM card slots and a microSD card slot. Samsung also bundles along a separate rear cover with a flip-style screen protector. Other than the fact that it’s a bit on the thicker side, the Grand Duos has a very good build quality and even looks very striking.

Features
Interface
When Samsung first announced the Grand Duos, there was a lot of cry about the low resolution display. Even we thought back then that this would be the Achilles’ Heel of the handset. As it turns out, the 480 x 800 resolution is not completely terrible and other than a slightly larger set of icons, it’s not bad at all. The display is a standard TFT LCD, but a good one, so the viewing angles and colour reproduction is very good. The phone runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean along with TouchWiz and the two seem to get along just fine. The UI is fluid just like it is on the Note II, all the new features introduced in it and the S III – Multi-window, Pop-up play, Smart Stay, S Voice and a whole fleet of motion based gestures – are present here.

The fluidity of the interface can be attributed to the spiffy ARM Coretex-A9 MPCore SoC under the hood. This consists of a dual-core CPU running at 1.2GHz each along with 1GB of RAM. The SoC also has support for NEON video decoding extensions and ARM TrustZone technology, amongst others. The GPU is not the typical Adreno or Mali chipset but is a Broadcom Video Core IV. Thanks to the low resolution screen, this GPU manages to pump out very similar performance to the GPU in the Note II. NenaMark 2 benchmark recorded a similar 58FPS and this is also reflected in actual games. For instance, Temple Run 2 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted run smoothly without any issues.

Media
The Grand may lack the famed Wolfson audio chip, but this hasn’t stopped Samsung from delivering a really good media experience. We’ve talked about the new media player at length in our Galaxy Note II review, so we won’t go too much into detail about it here. Audio quality is pretty good through the headphones as well as the rear speaker. The volume level is good and movies and music are enjoyable on the big screen.

The video player is very functional and supports most formats including AVI and MKV. Full HD 1080p playback is also flawless. You even get a screenshot feature along with the option to tag your friends in the video, edit it or even set a timer to switch it off automatically.

Connectivity
The Grand Duos is a quad-band GSM handset with tri-band 3G support. You also get dual-band Wi-Fi with hotspot capabilities and Wi-Fi Direct, GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS, DLNA, external storage of up to 64GB, Bluetooth 4.0, which should cover all your basic connectivity options. TV-out and NFC seem to be missing, but we doubt it will be missed much. Dual-SIM management is also handled well. You have the option of dual standby for the SIM cards and also configure which SIM should use 3G packet data.

The stock keyboard works well and in split-screen mode, you get a "floating keyboard" so that you can position anywhere on the screen while using both of the opened apps. One-sided keyboard operation is not present since the screen isn’t that big and the resolution is quite low. Browsing through image heavy websites didn’t pose problems of any kind, as panning and zooming is smooth and lag free.

Ninety-nine percent of fresh malware programs attack Android:TECH4COMP

As per findings of the Kaspersky Security Bulletin 2012, ninety-nine percent of newly discovered mobile malicious programs target the Android platform, while only a very small amount targets Java and Symbian-based smartphones. The report found that 2012 was the second year to show explosive growth in Android malware. From a negligible eight new unique malicious programs in January 2011, the average monthly discovery rate for new Android malware in 2011 went up to more than 800 samples. In 2012, Kaspersky Lab identified an average of 6300 new mobile malware samples every month. Overall, in 2012, the number of known malicious samples for Android increased more than eight times.

The majority of Android malware can be divided into three main groups according to functionality. Elaborating further, the report adds that “SMS Trojans” empty victims’ mobile accounts by sending SMS texts to premium-rate numbers. Backdoors provide unauthorised access to a smartphone, making it possible to install other malicious programs or steal personal data. Spyware targets the unauthorised collection of private data, such as address books and passwords (or even personal photos in some cases).

In the first half of 2012, Backdoors, SMS Trojans and Spyware combined accounted for 51 percent of all newly discovered Android malware. In the Top 10 chart of Android malware that was blocked by Kaspersky Mobile Security or Kaspersky Tablet Security, SMS Trojans emerged to be the most widespread, with applications showing unwanted ads to users in second place.

Less widespread but by far the most dangerous are mobile banking Trojans that often work in conjunction with their desktop counterparts, as was the case with Carberp-in-the-Mobile.

The Android platform allows software installation from untrusted sources, and one of the best ways to guarantee an infection is to install programs from suspicious websites. However, malware on the official Google Play application distribution platform is another trend that started in 2011 and continued in 2012, despite Google’s best efforts to reduce cybercriminal activity. One of the most unusual examples of mobile malware in 2012 was the "Find and Call" application that managed to sneak into the Google Play store as well as Apple’s app store.

The FakeRun Android Trojan, which is one of the most widespread in the United States but also prevalent in other countries of the world, does not steal users’ personal data. It belongs to a vast family of dummy applications that do nothing but display ads that earn money for their creator. One particular malicious program known as Trojan.AndroidOS.FakeRun.a that appeared in Google Play forced users to give it a five-star rating and share information about the app on their Facebook accounts before it would even start. The only thing that users received though was annoying ads.

One of the most popular mobile Trojans in Europe is Trojan.AndroidOS.Plangton.a. To an inexperienced smartphone owner, the only evidence of its existence are the ads that appear from time to time and some strange entries in the bookmarks section of the Android web browser. After infection, the Trojan connects to a command server and modifies website favourites as well as opening a web page that exposes users to potential online scams.

Russia’s mobile Internet landscape is awash with SMS Trojans – malicious programs sending texts to premium-rate numbers that basically steals users’ money. For example, Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.Opfake.bo disguises itself as an interface skin, but in fact subscribes the user to costly “premium” content.

Micromax products launches LED TV series, home theatre systems, Android dongle for TV

Micromax has entered the competitive consumer electronics arena, and the company has launched a series of LED TVs, home entertainment systems, and an Android dongle for televisions.

Micromax's LED TV offerings range from 24-inch to 55-inch, and their prices start from Rs 15,990 and go all the way up to Rs 1,29,990. The 50-inch and 55-inch models offer 3D capabilities, and come with four pairs of 3D glasses. The company claims these TVs will have zero bright spot LEDs for better viewing experience. Further, all models are come with a USB port for plug-and-play support.

Here's a closer look at the models and their respective pricing and features: Micromax LEDT770K55F is the company's top-end model in the LED TV segment priced at Rs 1,29,990. This 55-inch model offers Full HD 1080p resolution, Smart TV feature for Internet browsing, and apps. As far as connectivity is concerned, the TV comes loaded with 4 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports.

Micromax enters consumer electronics space

The other model, LEDK316K50F, measures 50 inches, and has been priced at Rs 79,990. The LED TV offers a Full HD 1080p resolution. It comes with a response time of 6.5ms. As far as connectivity is concerned, the TV comes equipped with 3 HDMI ports, a headphone slot, 2 USB ports, and an input for PC audio.

Then there is LED42K316 from Micromax that measures 42 inches, and offers Full HD 1080p resolution. The company has priced it at Rs 47,990. It has 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, a headphone slot, and an input for PC audio.

Micromax LED32K316 has a 32-inch screen and is priced at Rs 25,990. The LEDL31FL24F and the LED24K316 have been priced at Rs 16,990 and Rs 15,990, respectively. Both LED TVs measure 24 inches.

Micromax, in addition to the LED TV series, has also launched two home theatre systems, namely HT037F1 and HT089F1. Both home theatre systems come with 5.1 surround sound speakers and have a PMPO output of 4,000W and 5,000W respectively. Both, HT037F1 and HT089F1 support USB drives and SD cards, while the HT089F1 also supports digital FM radio. Micromax has priced the HT037F1 at Rs 5,990, while the HT089F1 is priced at Rs 6,990.

Micromax launches home theatre systems

The company also launched the Micromax Smart Stick, which is a dongle running on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS. With its Smart Stick, Micromax claims to bring the Android experience to a television screen. Among its features are a standard HDMI interface, and it also has a USB host. The Smart Stick has 4GB of flash memory, Wi-Fi Direct connectivity and one can also connect with wireless mouse and keyboard. The Micromax Smart Stick is priced at Rs 4,990. Micromax also has on offer a BluRay player supporting both 2D and 3D audio/ video formats, which it has priced at Rs 6,490.

BGR.in reports that Micromax has set up a manufacturing facility in Rudrapur, which is capable of making 2,000 LED TVs a day. At this facility, Micromax will also manufacture tablets and accessories. Micromax LED TVs, at the outset, will be available across 170 cities in the nine states of Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat.
