WordPress Plugin JuLiA moderates comment by abusiveness score

Another thing that I would like to share is a WordPress plugin JuLiA which is in beta though but is great in comment moderation tasks.
JuLiA stands for Just a Linguistic Algorithm. This plugin checks your comments against the JuLiA web service, which supplies an abusiveness score for each comment. Based on this score, comments are auto-published, auto-deleted, or marked for review. Over time, scores are aggregated by commenter in order to generate abusiveness rankings and other statistics.

Great. Isn't it? I sense a good scope of its development. My wishes to the author!

Registry Editing has been disabled by your Administrator [Fix]

Every now and then when I try to fix up someones computer or laptop (for free :D) then I usually get a message that "Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator". Thanks to the malicious code for screwing this up. I recently face this while I was trying to fix my brother's IBM Thinkpad. So I am sharing the same procedure of fixing that issue as I might need it again (Believe me I got friends who don't even use AntiVirus and run into problems).

Solution #1

# Go to Start -> Run –> type gpedit.msc
# In the left hand menu, go to User Config –> Administrative Templated –> System.
# Now In the right hand pane, select “Prevent access to registry editing tools”. It will probably be not configured or enabled. If it’s enabled, disable it and if it’s not configured, first enable it, apply settings and then disable it. Most probably the settings have been applied instantly. If not, then run gpupdate in command prompt to apply the group policies.

Solution #2

# Go to Start -> Run -> type


REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

# Press Enter and you are done!

CD DVD drive driver installation error 39 fix

Today when I was trying to fix up my brother's IBM ThinkPad, I finally decided to give it a reinstall of Win XP as that will take less time than fixing it up. But then CD drive was not being detected. A quick check in Device Manager shows that Device Drivers are corrupted and I was unable to install them (Gave an error code 39). So I googled around & found a pretty easy solution which I am going to share with you and also will come back here incase I need it again in the future.

You just need to fix that error.
Create a .reg file with the following contents

Blogger survey with no submit button

Recently we saw blogger developing but the pace is not good enough. I agree on the fact that blogger is the best platform available to newbies but still they need to offer something that users can continue with blogger only. Just blogging about the previous post, i got a link saying "Help us to improve blogger by taking this survey". I happily clicked on the link to take out a few minutes to give my feedback. It took me about 5 minutes to fill up the entire form, just to find out at last there is no submit button! I was like but still i thought it to be a browser issue, reloaded the page so that i can enter things again and then submit, just to find out that the submit button is still not available. I didn't waste any more time in closing the tab. Blogger really needs to improve else they will loose their users who want to have better control on their blog.

Just replace youtube with kissyoutube in the url of the file and then paste in the address bar. Cool! Isn't it.

Minor Bug in Adsense and Orkut

Everybody must have heard that nobody knows how does it work exactly but the thing we are concerned with is that it is a cut above the rest. (Old Joke - Google has rocket scientists working for them)
This post is not anything about technical stuff. I am just reporting minor bugs from the big giant Google that amazes me and ask a question to myself everytime I look at them. Are they unable to find it or fix it?
Here are some screenshots showing some minor bugs!

Here is a simple addition mistake! ($13.32 + $0.33 + $0.20 = $13.85) And it is showing $13.84

Here, my friends count is different! Even I don't know if I have 137 or 139 friends. Lolz!!

And here is the bug that irritates me the most. It keeps on showing "1 unread messages" but when inbox is opened it shows "no messages" and "showing 1-1 of 1".
Update: This bug has been fixed now!

Update: Now, even the number of fans are displayed incorrectly!

I hope they should be fixed soon! How can they ignore such a bug?

Batch Files - Repeat certain tasks with a click

How many times we have to repeat a sequence of steps in our daily tasks? Well! The answer can vary widely for different users? Batch Files help me a lot in my work that I tend to repeat often.
The limit of things that they can do for you limits on you! Before giving any explanations and examples, I would like to define it.

What is a Batch File?
Batch files are files that allow users to create a lists of commands and/or programs to run once the batch file has been executed. A simple batch file does not require any special programming skills and can be done by users who only know DOS commands.

What it can do for us?
Ex#1 You need to run multiple programs at a single click. Like you started your internet connection and now want your browser, IM client, P2P client etc to start up. You can write commands of calling them one by one and save them in a batch file. And now when you execute this batch file, it will run all the commands of calling different applications to start one by one.
After executing one command i.e. calling of a application it waits for it to terminate before it can execute the next command. I am looking for a solution for this and hopefully will be back with a solution soon.
Use start command for launching applications!
Ex#2 You got a CD mixed with content and want specific files to be copied in specific folders. You can create a batch file containing the command and when it is executed, your specified files will be copied to the targeted folder.
Its upto you, what work you want to get done!
Lets Start with making Batch files!
Open Notepad or create a new txt file (Right Click > New > Text Document)
Type in the DOS commands (Explained further below)
Now File Menu > Save As... and save it with any name with *.bat extension (make sure Save as type is selected as All Files)

Keywords followed after a command are called switches.
Remember! To need help with a particular command, type the command followed by /? the command prompt.
For Ex: dir /? will list all the switches that you can use with it.
For advanced options on creating batch files, check this link!

Some Examples
I would only explain the commands here!

Ex#1 Clean your PC from junk files
We will use the del command, type del /? to know what switches you can use with these commands.
We need to use the /s switch so that it can also delete junk files located in sub directories and the /q switch to be in quiet mode.
Note: You can use other switches as per scenario.
A command will be like this : del c:\*.tmp /s /q
Now what you need to do is:
Repeat the command in next line by changing the file extension *.dmp or *.chk or whatever you want.
Repeat all the above commands by changing the drive letter to d:\ or e:\ (depends on number of partitions on your hard disk)
Here is a list of files that are junk:

The text highlighted empties the directory irrespective of the content.

Ex#2 Defragment your partitions and shut down the computer
(This command works on XP - defrag)
Use these
defrag c:
defrag d: (Add commands according to the number of partitions)
shutdown /s /t 10 /c "Defragmentation Complete !!"

Use shutdown /? to know what does the switches do!
(Left as an exercise for you)

Update: Convert your batch (*.bat) files into executables (*.exe) by this tutorial!
(This tutorial was able to create *.exe file out of *.bat files but it doesn't work for me well but it does for others. So, Verify yourself!)
With the *.exe file created now you can pin the file in start menu for easy reach!

Save your Orkut account from getting hacked!!

Well, first of all my apologies for not posting anything for two days! One of my friend challenged me if I can hack her orkut account.
~~I don't know how to hack?~~
Google uses a 4 Level Orkut login which makes it difficult to hack using brute force method.
1st Level Security-SSL or 128 bit secured connection
2nd Level Google account checks for cookie in the sytem of user
3rd Level Google provides a redirection to the entered User information
4th Level Google doesn't use conventional php/aspx/asp coding so impossible to attack using input validation attack!!
It is not an easy task to break this security! But still some people manages to get access to other accounts. The question concerned is How they do it? Many of them just use simple tricks that befool users and then they themself leak out their password. Here are some points you need to take care of, to prevent your Orkut account being hacked!

Phishing Attack is the most popular way of stealing other's password. Popular by the name of fake login (among those who knows it!!) the users land on a page where they are asked for their login information and they enter their username and password thinking it to be a real page but actually it is other way round. It submits all the details entered to the programmer or the coder.

Community Links: Many times you are provided with a link to a community in a scrap. Read the link carefully, It may be something like http://www.okrut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=22910233 OKRUT not ORKUT. Clicking on this link will take you to a fake login page and there you loose up your password.

Orkut New Features: I have come across a page that looks like they are giving the user a choice of selecting new features for orkut with your ID and password, of course!! When user submit the page, there goes his ID and password mailed to the coder.

Java script: You must have seen the circulating scraps that asks you to paste this code in your address bar and see what happens! Well sometimes they also leak out your information. Check the code and if you are unsure of what to do, then I recommend not to use it.

Primary mail address: If by some means a hacker came to know password of your Yahoo mail or Gmail, which users normally keeps as their primary mail address in their Orkut account, then hacker can hack Orkut account by simply using USER ID and clicking on 'forget password'.This way Google will send link to the already hacked primary email id to change the password of the Orkut account. Hence the email hacker will change your Orkut account's password. Hence your Orkut account hacked too.
So a better thing would be to keep a very unknown or useless email id of yours as primary email id so that if the hacker clicks on 'Forgot password' the password changing link goes to an unknown email id i.e. not known to the hacker.
Hence your Orkut account saved.

Search Operators tell Search Engine what exactly you want

A common scenario faced by everyone, everyday is searching something or the other. There are two ways of proceeding further:
Layman way
The user opens a search engine, type in what he/she wants and got a really long list, mostly with irrelevant stuff. Then he/she will have to look for the thing on several links listed on their screen. Sometimes the user got the things as the way he/she wants but not every time.
Pro way
The user opens a search engine, type in the keywords and got a relevant list of results , exactly the way he/she wants and there he/she is done.
But how the user is able to get results quickly and efficiently?
What is the thing that Pro way differs from the Layman way?
Well the answer is "Using proper syntax". You can easily find your way around on almost everything by using these simple keywords!

Here are the syntaxes that can makes the difference in results:
Boolean function:
And - This function is default i.e. if you search for anything without a function, the SE (Search engine) will search for all of them. For Eg: Searching for blogger themes, you will get results for all of them, it can be in a single document or in different documents some containing blogger and some containing themes.
OR - If you want that either of the words should be acceptable then you can use OR. For Eg: themes OR templates.
If you want the exact phrase you can group your search with " "
For Eg: "Search Engine Optimization" will show all the pages where all three of them are together and in the same sequence

Using * - Searching for "Search Engine *" will show pages containing Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Tips and so on. (Just like the WILD CARDS)

intitle: - It restricts your search to the titles of the pages only.

allintitle: - It restricts the search to the pages where all specified words make up the title of the web page.

inurl: - It restricts your search to the URLs of web pages.

allinurl: - It restricts the search to the pages where all specified words make up the URL of the web page.

intext: - It searches only in body test ignoring link text, URLs & titles.

allintext: - It searches for all of the specified words in the body text.

inanchor: - It searches for text in a page's link anchors. A link anchor is the
descriptive text of a link.

site: - It searches for the exact site. For Eg: site: tech4sure.blogspot.com

link: It returns a list of pages linked to the specified url.

cache: It finds a copy of the page that SE indexed, even if that page is no longer
exists. This type of search is helpful for pages that change often.

filetype: It searches the suffixes or filename extensions. For Eg: filetype: guide.pdf etc.

Ojeez - Social Networking Marketing Community

Ojeez is a social networking marketing community for entrepreneurs, professionals and home based businesses. As I am writing this Ojeez has over 10000 members. Its live in beta!

Although its official launch was on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 (according to the members who received their newsletter earlier) But I received a newsletter announcing the launch on Friday, June 8, 2007 2:38 AM. Checked the homepage right after the newsletter and I was happy to see Ojeez is live in beta!
There were many other social communities that people are a part of. Some of them has to shut down sooner or later, but will Ojeez survive? One of the reasons I think it will is that its all about "Online marketing" and not about everything!
If you have a business online, or you are involved in network marketing, joining Ojeez might be something you should consider. The design and the “tools” that I have seen on the preview site were looking great but due to the absolutely overwhelming response received in the last 24hrs, they are facing some problems & are working for the fix and will be back at US EST 7:30 AM.

Google Adsense Policy Update

Google Adsense programme now allows placing up to three link units on a page.

Here is the e-mail I recieved from adsense team.

Subject : [Inside AdSense] Policy updates!
After our many weeks of policy posts on Thursdays, you're probably intimately familiar with all of our program policies. So we can imagine your surprise when you woke up today, got your morning coffee, and settled in for your daily re-read of the policies -- only to find they were different! To help lessen the shock, we've highlighted the two notable changes below:

We're now requiring AdSense publishers to comply with the spirit of our Page Quality Guidelines. If you're an AdWords advertiser, you might already be familiar with these guidelines, which are intended to provide a better experience for users, advertisers, and publishers alike. If you use any kind of online advertising, know that these guidelines encourage publishers to, among other things, create sites with simple navigation and substantial, useful content.

This new policy requirement doesn't mean that you can't use online advertising; it simply means that if you do, you need to be sure that the way you advertise meets with the guidelines, whether it's through AdWords or through any other advertising program. However you advertise your site, it can always benefit from significant and relevant content, clear navigation, and the other points in our quality guidelines.

The other noteworthy update: now you can place up to three link units on a page. As we've noted in the past, link units are a great way to provide relevant, user-friendly ads in hard-to-fit locations on your site. With the new opportunity to place three link units -- and the plethora of link unit formats -- we hope you'll find great ways of incorporating this unique ad format on your site.

These are called stick figures in which everything is represented by straight lines. Pivot makes it easy to create stick-figure animations. You can build your own stick figures and load your own backgrounds. You then add them frame by frame on the storyline and you are done with your very own animation. Yeah, Its simple! Isn't it?
The animations can be saved as animated gifs to be used on web pages.
