This highly demanded review is finally up! The Samsung Omnia II, Samsung's newest Windows Mobile device, is a lot more promising that the original Omnia when it first came out with it's brand new TouchWiz 2 UI that features many things you find in the HTC TouchFlo 3D as well. But having a practical UI is not enough, it needs to be able to run it well. Can the Omnia II do that? We'll find out today.

We don't usually review LCD monitors and digital photo frames on Gear65 but we're doing it for these two models by Samsung, the Samsung Lapfit LCD monitor and the Samsung 107H digital photo frame because they're not usual for their category. They're both designed to be used as a secondary display, for example, with the Lapfit designed specifically with a notebook in mind, and can both do it with a USB cable instead of a VGA cable!

In today's economy, what's the best thing a phone company can do? Come up with a budget phone with enough features to not make it appear like something that came out from the late 1990s of course. The C510 appears to target that market, with that same, if-it's-not-broken-why-fix-it user interface that's been around since 2005, but paired with a FaceBook application and a CyberShot brand for its camera.

Gear65 #14 - Sony Vaio P

We finally get our hands on Sony's ultra-portable net *cough* I mean, notbook (that's not a typo. If Sony says it's not a netbook, then it's a NOTbook), the sexy Vaio P, ever since their official launch a few months ago.

There's just so much to say about it that even this video doesn't cover enough of the result of Sony's decision to use Windows Vista and to fill it with value-adding software. And it's actually surprisingly positive!

In summary: As long as you use the Vaio P strictly for getting online on the go by giving you access to your information in the cloud, or for music playback, you shouldn't experience too much lag. Still, if I had a choice, I'd choose to have Windows XP, but that would cause you to lose the Vaio apps pre-installed on the machine, which actually are pretty useful, especially when it comes to quickly changing settings.

Plus the instant-on mode is a really awesome feature that all netbooks should have.

The price is going to turn a lot of people off though. No matter how small and cool looking it is.

Whenever we talk about small portable speakers, NTT (our audio engineer) would be the first to say they're surely going to sound bad because of their size. Strangely, when XMI showed him the X-Mini Max, he actually liked it! I mean, it's still nothing compared to those audiophile speakers out there, but for its size, it's actually really loud and clear! What do I like about them? The fact that they're small, that NTT likes them ( = quality), and most importantly, it's made and designed in Singapore!!

A Windows Mobile phone that's actually awesome? Is that possible? The HTC Touch HD might actually be that phone! Find out why Daniel keeps thinking that the TouchFlo3D user interface should be a standard in Windows Mobile phones, and how it lets us forget about the fact that there's actually nothing HD about the Touch HD (strictly speaking). This phone isn't perfect though, and we're not gonna let its flaws just pass by!

Oh, and this is going to be a long video, but that's just because this is such an awesome phone, especially if you have been using Windows Mobile phones for a while!

Follow up on video: The Touch HD still has the largest (3.8") display among any HTC phone today, with the Touch Pro 2 at 3.6" and the Diamond2 only at 3.2".

Daniel takes a look at the beautiful and solid-built Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, Sony Ericcson's first non-UIQ smartphone, and given the developement lately, certainly not the last. But is the phone all about design? Well, yes and no.

In summary, there are 3 aspects of the phone that Sony Ericsson appears to have focused on: The design, which is very beautiful, but does have its flaws, The Xpanel, which after the review, appears to not be what they claimed to be, and the built-in panels are just helping to make that more obvious, but surely better than a standard windows mobile UI. Lastly is the power of the phone, which is no doubt quite powerful.
