Today we cover a website, Birthday Dialer, which brings forth a unique way to greet your loved ones on their birthdays.

Birthday Dialer calls up the person whose birthday it is, and plays them a recorded message which you have customized on the website.

Lets us go through the process step by step and see how Birthday Dialer is different from other ways to wish your loved a happy birthday. You start by clicking on the yellow/orange balloon that says ‘Begin!’

The first step is entering your name so that the receiver will know who the greeting is from:

Birthday Dialer presents the user with two choices of messages:

• Paid
• Free

The free messages have an added advertisement at the end of the recording, the paid ones do not. After you enter your name, you are taken to this option:

I suspect most users will opt to get a freebie however if you choose to go the other way, here are how the charges work:

I went for the freebie and clicked on the ‘No Thanks’ button, which took me here:

Those are the options of recording to be played with your message. You can preview them and listen to what they sound like. Choose the one you like the most and click on ‘Next:’

For token users (paid users) the option of choosing the exact time of message delivery can be manually selected whereas for free users, the message is sent right away. After clicking on ‘Next’ you are taken to an unmodifiable time setting (which, as mentioned, is only available to paid users):

This, again, is an unmodifiable option only available to paid users. The message for free users has the default text as shown above. The final step is to enter the recipient’s phone number. For users using the free service, the recipient’s number can only be Canadian or American.

And viola! The recipient receives a call in a moment or two and is surprised to know that you came up with a pretty unique way to lighten up their birthday.

Mozilla has launched Plugin Check which enables users to see whether or not the most popular Firefox plug-ins are up to date.

The way Plugin Check works could not be any simpler; you simply visit the Plugin Check website from your Firefox browser, and you are presented with a list of plug-ins that are up to date, and the ones that are not. My results looked like this:

Apart from the popular plug-ins, you can click on the ‘View All Your Plug-ins’ option to check for updates for all your plug-ins.

Introducing this service, Mozilla has further facilitated the users of its most successful web browser, Firefox.

Google Feature Search (version 2.0) is one Firefox add-on that can help Firefox users better refine their searches.

When the add-on is installed and running, users can refine their Google searches to achieve the desired results easily, without having to go through irrelevant and unrelated search results.

For instance, Siemens is Europe’s largest engineering conglomerate; on the other hand, Siemens is also the S.I. unit for conductance, an electrical property of electrical conductors. Therefore if a user was to search for Siemens, the desired results would not be achieved straightforwardly.

However, your Firefox browser equipped with Google Feature Search’s toolbar can get you the desired results within seconds.

Suppose we had to look up the unit of conductance Siemens, we would scroll down to the appropriate field, like so:

Choosing the unit conversion option, one can then enter Siemens and the relevant pages for Siemens, the unit of conductance would be shown.

Color Pallete Generator by CSSdrive is an excellent online tool that lets you extract colors from any image with just a click of a button. To get started all you have to do is select any image from your system or upload via web Url and click “Get Palette”.

After processing your file it will come up with all the possible color schemes that were included in the original picture along with their codes so that you can use them anywhere you like.  CSSDrive is a powerful, yet small and free utility which make life easier for a lot of graphic designers.

Colorsuckr

ColorSuckr is a service similar to CssDrive’s Color Pallete Generator that only requires you to upload an image via web url or select from some of the most commonly used color from the sample images that are provided right on the home page of ColorSuckr.

It also provides a browser add on so rather than messing about with copying and pasting urls, make it easier to grab colors from images by installing the add-on for Firefox.

Pic2Color

Last but not the least we have Pic2Color, an online image color extractor that lets you extract colors found in any provided photograph. You can upload images from your computer or directly from web URL.

To get started  simply select an image location an click on “Load” button. The application will load it and give you a color pallete of that image.

Orbit is the way to do that.

Orbit helps you group the people in your cellphone phonebook with their respective accounts on Facebook and/or Twitter. You can always stay tuned to what your contacts are up to. You can select whether to check for updates yourself, or be notified when any or specific contacts post updates.

A multipurpose application, Orbit also lets you see immediately what options are available for you to interact with any contact in your phonebook; it tell you whether you can call, text, or email the highlighted contact. You can select your mode of communication right then and there without having to go through a number of screens.

You can customize Orbit to suit your preferences. By creating special groups called ‘Inner Orbit’ you can stay tuned to the group of people you want to hear from most. Similarly you can tone down Orbit’s activity so you are not bothered with things you do not want bothering you.

Orbit provides a wonderful way to couple your phonebook with your Facebook/Twitter accounts. It is an application which can make being social more fun and easier.

DiskSpaceReporter is a very small program that runs without disturbing your normal computer operations. It operates in the background and you can see it as an icon in the systems tray.

The user can set the DiskSpaceReporter to check the free disk space on all drives (or selected drives) at fixed time intervals; if the available disk space falls below the value specified, the program pops up an alert.

As visible from the screenshot above, the settings enable the user to set the time interval as well as the limit of free disk space on a drive; after checking the drives, if the actual free space falls below the designated limit, an alert such as the one in the screenshot, is displayed.

While this small freeware performs a very basic function, computer users with many drives in their computer will find DiskSpaceReporter to be very helpful.
