Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus leaked images shows the device from every angle

We already know that Samsung will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S10 series a week before the biggest mobile show, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, on February 20th. By now a lot of details about the Galaxy S10 series have been leaked including the CAD renders, specifications and case manufacturers renders.

Today, we have the first look of both the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 Plus from every angle confirming the earlier design leak and leaving nothing to the imagination. Leaked by German blog AllAboutSamsung, widely known for covering every Samsung news, the live images are of the prototypes of the S10 and the S10+.

As you can see in the images, the Galaxy S10 series will bring new infinity display with the punch-hole design. Samsung is calling that display setup Infinity O. With minimal bezels on the top and a smaller chin on the bottom, the Galaxy S10 line-up will provide an immersive experience.

On the rear, the Galaxy S10 and the S10 Plus will house triple cameras paired with a heart-rate sensor and dual-LED flash, all clubbed together in a wide horizontal rectangular box. The key differences between the S10 and its Plus variant are the larger display size, extra RAM and storage configurations, and dual-front facing punch-hole cameras on the latter variant.

The images confirm that the complete S10 line-up will come with USB Type-C port, speaker grill, and primary microphone on the bottom and Samsung will also retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is dead for many manufacturers already.

In similar news, some more live images of the Galaxy S10 have been surfaced online which reveals that the South-Korean giant is working on its proprietary cryptocurrency wallet called the Samsung Blockchain KeyStore and will be introduced with the Galaxy S10 series launch.

The wallet description says that users can either import cryptocurrency from existing wallets or can create a new one using the Samsung Blockchain KeyStore. The build currently supports only Ethereum (ETH) cryptocurrency but we can expect other popular coins support by the time of the launch.

As per rumors, the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10 series won't support screen protectors. The devices will feature reverse wireless charging and the Galaxy S10 Plus will house 4100mAh battery in a 7.8mm body. Lastly, an image shared by @evleaks shows the Galaxy S10 E, S10 and the S10 Plus in a transparent case.

OnePlus 7 leaked live image reveals notch-less sliding camera design

OnePlus has now become a household name. The company started its operations back in 2013 as a kickstarter project with the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 6T is its best representation of how great an affordable phone can be. After launching the OnePlus 3, OnePlus released a slightly upgraded variant of the same with the moniker OnePlus 3T, and since then its been followed for every new OnePlus device launch.

OnePlus' next flagship will be called the OnePlus 7 and the leaks have started coming in already. The company is expected to showcase the OnePlus 7 smartphone in Q2 of 2019.

The first OnePlus 7 leak comes courtesy of CoolAPK (removed), later reposted by SlashLeaks, a discussion platform where anonymous users share images/details of upcoming devices. The image leaked shows an unknown OnePlus smartphone (on the left) besides the latest OnePlus 6T smartphone (on the right), both in a protective case.

The device on the left happens to have a full-screen bezel-less display with no waterdrop notch as seen on the 6T. The bezels on the edges are also minimal and the right side hosts the alert slider with the power button just below it. It can be clearly noticed that the alert slider has a red paint job, not seen on any OnePlus device.

Above the bezel-less display is the earpiece speaker which covers half the width of the device and has a silverish finish. The case surrounding the phone has an extended top which has got a pair of cutouts for a large front-facing camera, and a LED notification and proximity sensor. The empty cutout space allegedly points that the device might have a sliding camera design similar to the Honor Magic 2 or Mi Mix 3. If not a slider design, it might come with a motorized camera as seen on the Oppo Find X smartphone.

We would like to note that do take this leak with a pinch of salt as there's no word on its authenticity. If this transpires to be a real deal, then OnePlus will have an edge ahead of its competitor with a premium design smartphone at a budget cost.

Samsung to launch Galaxy S10 series and foldable smartphone on February 20th; Everything you need to know

In surprising news, Samsung has officially announced that it will be hosting its first annual Galaxy UNPACKED event on February 20th, 2019 at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

The invite blog post does not include the name "Galaxy S10" but it clearly shows number '10' and reads "Welcome to the next generation" followed by another blog post titled "A Journey of Mobile Innovation" where the company talks about how it layered the foundation of the Galaxy S series and plans for shaping the next ten years with the launch of the 10th anniversary Galaxy flagship series smartphone.

In another news, The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung will showcase 'a fully-functional foldable smartphone' at the same Galaxy S10 launch event. The device is anticipated to be called the Galaxy F or Galaxy Fold, based on the name trademarks by Samsung. The Samsung foldable smartphone is in news since 2017 and it's finally happening.

Samsung at its Developer Conference in late-2018 unveiled the Infinity Flex Display, where it gave a glimpse (attached below) of its unfinished foldable smartphone, which more or less looked like a box/book with displays embedded in it. Though it had a protective case on top, the device didn't impress many. We hope Samsung has worked on the design after hearing rave reviews since its demonstration and made it better than the Xiaomi's upcoming foldable device.

Samsung Galaxy S10: Everything You Need To Know

Samsung is expected to launch three variants of the Galaxy S10 smartphone, including a lite version called the Samsung Galaxy S10 E, along with the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 Plus.

The current rumors and leaks reveal that all the three variants will feature a punch hole on the top right corner of the device (Infinity-O display). The Galaxy S10 E and the Galaxy S10 will host a single punch for the front-facing camera. On the other hand, there will be dual front cameras on the S10 Plus. Exynos 9820 or Snapdragon 855 will be taking care of the performance.

Talking about the cameras, the S10 Lite and the S10 might feature dual sensors on its back, with triple sensors on the Galaxy S10 Plus. Both the Galaxy S10 and its big brother will have an in-display ultra-sonic fingerprint scanner.

On the front, the Galaxy S10 Lite, S10 and S10 Plus will come with a 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.4-inch display size with 3100 mAh, 3500 mAh and 4000 mAh battery beneath it respectively. The S10 Lite is said to come with a flat display and sans in-display fingerprint scanner. Samsung will be eliminating the iris scanner from the S10 series.

Also, a 5G variant of the Galaxy S10 is said to be in works which could be announced a couple of months after the Galaxy S10 series launch. Internally called the Beyond X, it is rumored to come with a 6.7-inch screen, four rear cameras, two front-facing cameras, and with humongous 5000 mAh battery.

The GALAXY Unpacked event is scheduled a week prior to the start of the biggest mobile show of the year, MWC 2019. I'm personally expecting big announcements from Samsung at this 10th anniversary Galaxy S series flagship launch event.

Huawei, as expected, has launched the Huawei Y9 2019 in India earlier today. It was originally announced back in October 2018 and now it has made its way to the Indian market. The Y9 2019 is a budget smartphone from Huawei and competes directly with the Redmi Note 6 Pro, Motorola One Power, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, and others.

Xiaomi announces Redmi Note 7 with 48MP rear camera for just 999 Yuan ($150)

As promised, Xiaomi today at an event in China has officially announced the launch of the first independent Redmi smartphone, the Redmi Note 7. The newly launched Redmi Note 7 is the successor to the Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphone launched last year.

According to Redmi, Note 7 will be available initially in China and will be offered in three different configurations. The 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage is priced at 999 Chinese Yuan, which is roughly $150 or Rs. 10,000. On the other hand, the 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage variant costs 1,199 Chinese Yuan (~ $177 / Rs. 12,500) and the 6GB RAM variant with 64GB storage costs 1,399 Chinese Yuan (~ $206 / Rs. 14,500).

The pricing of the Redmi Note 7 is very aggressive compared to the other devices with similar specifications. It is the cheapest 48MP camera phone available in the market. Redmi is expected to launch the Note 7 in India and other usual regions in coming months.

Talking about the details of Note 7, it comes in a glass body with a metal chassis. Both the front and back have 2.5D curved edges on its sides and gradient color combinations. The device will be available in three different shades of Fantasy Blue, Bright Black and Twilight Gold, which looks more like Red.

The Redmi Note 7 comes with a 48MP primary rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and Samsung's GM1 sensor (0.8-micron pixels size), paired with a 5MP secondary rear camera. Redmi reveals that the sensor is larger than what's found in typical smartphones, allowing it to capture more light thereby producing clear night shots. On the front is a 13MP camera for clicking selfies. Both the cameras come with AI studio software features.

After teasing the launch of the Era 4X smartphone in India, XOLO today in an event in Delhi has officially taken the wraps off the XOLO Era 4X smartphone revealing all its specifications and other details. Alongside, XOLO also announced the XOLO Era 5X smartphone in the county, which will be available starting February 2019.

The XOLO Era 4X is the company's latest ultra-budget smartphone and comes in two RAM configurations, 1GB and 2GB. Available in Gold and Black colors, the Era 4X is priced at Rs. 4444 for the 1GB RAM variant, and the 2GB RAM variant costs Rs. 5555. The smartphone is exclusively available from Amazon.in.

Honor, like Huawei (its parent company), has been launching amazing smartphones lately. From Honor 10 to the Honor Magic 2, the devices have amazed almost everyone. With the right pricing and great specs, Honor smartphones are a run for its money.

The latest Honor smartphone announced is the Honor View20, which is the world’s first phone with high-definition 48MP rear 3D ToF camera and a front-facing 25MP camera integrated into the display. The View 20 is already on sale in China and will be introduced globally on January 22 in Paris.

Honor India has started teasing the launch of the Honor View 20 smartphone in India already. The "Save the Date" invites are out for the tech media which reveals that Honor will be launching the View 20 in the country on January 29th, just a week after the global launch.

Honor View 20, also called as Honor V20 comes in three color options including Blue, Red and Back, and in two different RAM configurations of 6GB and 8GB, both with 128GB internal storage. Honor has priced the 6GB variant of the View 20 in China at 2,999 Chinese Yuan (~ Rs. 30,700 / US$438), whereas the 8GB variant costs 3499 Chinese Yuan (~ Rs. 35,810 / US$510).

Considering the China pricing, the smartphone will compete head to head with the likes of OnePlus 6T and Asus Zenfone 5Z. The teasers out by Honor confirms that the Honor View 20 will be launched in India exclusively on Amazon India. You can read more about the smartphone design and specs below.

Honor View 20 Design

Honor View 20 is the first smartphone to use advanced nanolithography technology to develop an invisible nano-texture on its body. The fourth generation of nano-vacuum coating and invisible aurora texture process create a vivid and dynamic V-shape color gradient with a gleaming effect on the back of the View 20.

To eliminate the notch and increase the screen-to-body ratio of the V20, Honor developed a new All-View display with an in-screen front camera, which basically is a super small hole with a diameter of only 4.5mm created at the top left corner of the display to house the front-facing camera, thereby increasing the display area. With this notch-less design, the Honor View 20 achieves a stunning 91.8% body-to-screen ratio.

On the rear, the View 20 has dual-rear cameras aligned horizontally at the top left corner with dual-LED flash. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the back top-center and the Honor branding to the bottom. Speaker grills, USB Type-C port and primary microphone are located on the bottom frame, and Honor keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack alive, embedded on the top.

The key selling point of the View 20 is its rear camera packing in a 48-megapixels primary Sony IMX586 CMOS 1/2-inch (0.8 µm/pixel) sensor paired with 3D ToF secondary rear camera for depth-sensing for calculating distance based upon the time-of-flight of a light signal.

Accompanied by a 25-megapixels front-facing selfie shooter pierced on the display, Honor has made the View 20 a complete selling package.

Introduced in August 2018, the Xiaomi Mi A2 succeeded the highly popular Mi A1 smartphone, the first Xiaomi phone under the Android One scheme. Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 in India starting at Rs. 16,999, and a few months later dropped the price of the same by Rs. 1,000.

First ever renders of Huawei P30 reveals triple cameras, tear-drop notch, and return of headphone jack

Huawei had an amazing 2018 with the launch of the Huawei P20 Pro and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Both the smartphones performed exceptionally well last year not only in the hardware department but also in the camera department. The P20 Pro even grabbed the crown of the best camera smartphone of 2018 by DxOMark.

To continue the legacy, Huawei is already working on the successor to the P20 and P20 Pro smartphones. Renders leaked by @OnLeaks in collaboration with 91Mobiles reveals the first ever look of the upcoming Huawei P30 smartphone.

As we can see in the renders, the Huawei P30 will house major design changes compared to its predecessor. The front of the P30 will come with a 6-inch Full HD+ OLED display with minimal bezels and a tear-drop notch, similar to the Essential Phone but smaller, housing the selfie camera. Unlike the P20, the Huawei P30 will come with triple rear cameras paired with a dual-LED flash.

The fingerprint scanner, which was included in the front home-button on the P20, is now moved under-the-display on the Huawei P30, which is a welcome change as many manufacturers are already moving towards in-display fingerprint scanner.

On the right frame, we have the volume rockers followed by the power button. The bottom hosts the speaker grill, USB Type-C port, antenna bands, primary microphone and the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack, which was missing from last years line-up.
The triple rear cameras on the back of the Huawei P30 is said to come with a primary 38MP Sony RGB sensor capable of 5X optical zoom with 20MP + 5MP secondary cameras (for comparison, the Mate 20 Pro with triple cameras come with lossless 3x optical zoom). A 24MP sensor will be added to the front of the P30. It's interesting to note that this isn't even the Pro version of the series.

Talking of the silicon, the Huawei P30 is rumoured to be powered by its own and latest 2.36GHz Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC. The P30 might be available in two different storage options of 64GB and 128GB with 6GB and 8GB RAM respectively, with EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie. The phone dimensions measure 149.1 x 71.4 x 7.5 mm (9.3 mm including the camera bump).

There is no word on the details of the Huawei P30 Pro smartphone. Huawei announced the P20 series back in March 2018. So we can expect the same timeline for the launch of the P30 series. Pricing and other details are yet unknown.

Motorola's Moto Z4 Play is coming soon with water-drop notch, in-display fingerprint scanner and Moto Mod support

Motorola started the Moto Z series including the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, and Moto Z Play, back in September 2016. The unique element of the Z family is the support for Moto Mod, which basically is case-like accessories that are attached to the rear of the Moto Z smartphones via a series of magnets to provide additional functionality.

The Moto Z family was then succeeded by the Moto Z2 family in 2017 and the latest is the Moto Z3 family launched in 2018. Continuing the legacy, Motorola will be launching the successor to the Moto Z3 Play smartphone soon.

Popular leaker @onleaks (Steve Hemmerstoffer) in partnership with CompareRaja has leaked the first 3D renders of the upcoming Moto Z4 Play smartphone. Do note that the renders shared aren't the official renders created by Motorola, rather are based on the internal information obtained by Hemmerstoffer.

Moto Z4 Play Design

Let's start with the design of the Moto Z4 Play. As we can see in the renders Motorola will finally adopt the water-drop notch style but will implement it similar to the Essential PH-1 Phone. The Motorola branding has been removed from the front-bottom of the Z4 Play compared to its predecessor.

The backside will house a single rear camera with LED flash just below it. Both of which will be placed inside a circular pattern, a Motorola trait. The Motorola branding dimple sits in the center and the Moto Mod support on the bottom. We are expecting Z4 Play to support the upcoming 5G Moto Mod.
On the right are the volume rockers, and the power button, and the bottom includes the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and the primary microphone. Speakers are located on the top frame with the SIM tray slot.

Moto Z4 Play Specifications

Talking of the specifications, the Moto Z4 Play is rumored to come with a screen size of 6.2-inches with dimensions 158x75x7.25 mm (9.4mm including the rear camera bump), single front-facing selfie camera and single rear camera with dual-LED flash.

Other specifications are yet unknown, but the most important feature is the in-display fingerprint scanner, first of its kind for a Motorola smartphone.

Is Xiaomi working on a dual-sided foldable smartphone? Alleged video leaked

Smartphones are getting crazy every year. A few years back phone manufacturers were focusing on eliminating the bezels around the screen so that users get a more screen-to-body ratio. Also, today an ideal smartphone screen-size is anywhere between 5.8-inches to 6.3-inches, which previously used to be tagged as phablets.

Now, in 2019, the trend will be to bridge the gap between a tablet and a smartphone, by making the tablet foldable. Korean giant Samsung is working on producing a foldable smartphone for many years and it also showcased the same last year in November. Honestly, that particular Samsung foldable smartphone was more like a brick.

Out of the blue, highly recognized leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) on Twitter shared an alleged video of a foldable smartphone today, which according to his source is made by Xiaomi. So, is Xiaomi indeed secretly working on a two-sided foldable smartphone?

As you can see in the video below, its a tablet-sized device which can be folded from both the sides to change its form factor. The bezels on the top and the bottom are minimal, but the device definitely appears thick after getting folded as a smartphone.

The UI, which does match to Xiaomi's proprietary MIUI 10 looks responsive and also blends quite fast depending on the number of folds. One fold and the device turns into a box-shaped device and two folds turn it into a smartphone.

Blass is not sure about the authenticity of the video or device, but if true, Xiaomi could be one of the many companies to launch a foldable smartphone later in 2019. The current list of companies planning to launch a foldable smartphone includes Samsung, Huawei, Lenovo.

Honestly, this is the best ever representation of a foldable smartphone we have seen till date and if Xiaomi is actually behind it then it will give a tough competition to all the other manufacturers out there who are trying to come up with the same, especially Samsung.

The Era 4X will be the successor to the Era 3X smartphone launched in October 2017. Judging the teaser the Era 4X will feature an 18:9 ratio display with minimal bezels and no notch. No word on the launch date yet.

Original: Remember XOLO, India based smartphone manufacturer? A sub-brand of LAVA smartphones launched back in 2012. The last time they launched phones in India was in October 2017 the XOLO Era series of smartphones including the XOLO Era 3X, Era 2V and the Era 3, all under Rs. 8,000.

The brand since then never launched any another device and was also inactive on all its social media accounts from March 2018, until today.

With New Year, comes new possibilities and here we have XOLO back in action. XOLO on its Facebook page and also on Twitter has teased the launch of a new upcoming smartphone in the country along with an image.
The caption reads "Watch Out! A Surprise is waiting for you. Stay tuned for more." and the image shows the outline of a smartphone with a single rear camera sensor. High chances XOLO will launch a Chinese rebranded smartphone.

Xiaomi's Redmi will become an independent brand, first phone with 48 MP camera launching on January 10th

Xiaomi is a known brand worldwide because of its Redmi series devices and flagships series like the Mi, Mi Note, and Mi Mix. The company is highly recognized for selling phones with mid-to-high-end specs at a very cheap price sold under the Redmi brand.

The Redmi series started off with the Xiaomi Redmi smartphone in July 2013. Since then the line-up has grown extensively and the latest devices include the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and the Redmi Note 6. Both of which are doing extremely well in the markets like India, Indonesia, and China.

Today, in surprising news, Xiaomi on Weibo and its official website have announced that it will be separating the Xiaomi and the Redmi brand, making both as an independent marque. This isn't the first time a brand is making a line-up as an independent brand, Huawei did the same with its Honor series way back in 2013.

The announcement was shared along with a teaser image with "Redmi" keyword in the center followed by some text at the bottom in Chinese which reads "New independent brand, Xiaomi Redmi Conference." A closer look at the teaser reveals the number 4800 in the shadows of the Redmi keyword. The number points towards Xiaomi launching the first smartphone under Redmi brand with 48 MP camera.

This aligns with the teaser shared by the Xiaomi president Lin Bin back in December 2018, showing a part of an unannounced smartphone with the text "48MP Camera". Rumored to be the Redmi Pro 2, the device is expected to come with a 5.84-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor and 48 MP rear camera with 4-in-1 pixel combination technology.

The conference is scheduled for January 10th. We will update the post as soon as we hear more about this upcoming Redmi smartphone.

Vivo slashes the price of Vivo NEX in India weeks ahead of Vivo NEX Dual Display launch

Vivo has reduced the price of the Vivo NEX smartphone in India. Launched back in July 2018 in India, the Vivo NEX is the first smartphone to come with an elevated front facing camera. Vivo launched the NEX in the country for Rs. 47,990, but was actually retailing for Rs. 44,990.

Now, the company has further reduced the price of the NEX by Rs. 5,000. Available for Rs. 39,990 from both the online and offline retailers, the Vivo NEX is a good option for those who don't want to buy the OnePlus 6T.

This sudden decrease in price is because of the launch of the Vivo NEX Dual Display smartphone, the successor of the Vivo NEX. The NEX Dual Display is already on sale in China so we might expect the launch of the same in India by the end of January or mid-February.

Dubbed as the Nokia 9 PureView, the smartphone details have been leaked already, but today we have the first ever promo video of the Nokia 9 PureView revealing itself in its full glory.

Leaked by the good folks of MySmartPrice, the Nokia 9 PureView is said to be unveiled in the last week of this month (January 2019). The promo video (embedded below) not only confirms the Penta-camera setup but also reveals many key features of the smartphone.

Starting with the camera setup, the 5 cameras on the Nokia 9 PureView will come with ZEISS optics. All the five rear sensors will work simultaneously and users can take advantage of it in different lighting conditions, especially low-light. With 5 cameras, Nokia is claiming that the device can capture 10 times more light than any other regular smartphone camera sensor.

Exact details of the camera sensors like megapixel count, aperture, sensor type are yet unknown, but we can expect it to be similar to the Galaxy A9. The promo video does reveal that the users will be able to adjust the depth-of-field of the photos after a shot has been taken within the Google Photos app.

In terms of the design, the 9 PureView will carry the look of the Nokia 8 Sirocco, with glass back and metal chassis. The smartphone will support Qi wireless charging and be the first Nokia phone to come with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Nokia 9 PureView will come with a 5.99-inch display of 2K resolution and HDR10 compliance, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage.

On the software front, the device will be launched under Android One scheme and run Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box with guaranteed updates for two years.

To me, the Nokia 9 PureView already looks like a promising smartphone from Nokia and if compiled properly can be the best ever camera smartphone. Nokia has been working hard on the 9 PureView since 2018, and I wish the Penta-camera setup does not turn out to be the biggest gimmick of the year.

Storage is one of the most important factor to look at while buying any electronic device, be it a smartphone, desktop, or a laptop. Today we have smartphones coming up with 512GB of internal storage and laptops storage ranging up to 4TB. Having additional storage solutions for data creators can help in keeping backup for files for various capacity. Then what matters next is the speed and portability of the storage devices.

Two most widely available types of storage devices in the market include hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs). The major difference between the two is the architecture, speed, compactness, and reliability. HDDs are cheaper and come in many storage configurations, whereas, SSDs may be sleek and compact, but are expensive and are available in limited capacities.

Today, I will be reviewing the Western Digital My Passport SSD, which is the only portable SSD drive in WD's My Passport series. Manufacturers are including internal SSDs in laptops already but an external SSD is required when transferring tens and hundreds of GB's of files from one machine to another. HDDs are not the best choice in that scenario.

The storage capacity of the WD SSD I'm reviewing is 256 GB and is available from Amazon.in for Rs. 8,999, which is a bit cheaper than the other competitor brands that offer SSD’s in India.

Design

Western Digital is well-known for its design and the My Passport SSD is no exception. It has a dual-tone look, with the first half made of plastic with matte black touch, and the other half made of metal with diagonal lines texture, which is a fingerprint magnet. The product is a style-icon in its category. The WD logo sits on one side of the SSD and regulatory certifications logos and barcode on the other.

Weighing 40.8 grams, the SSD is just a tad bit bigger (3.5-inch long) than a credit card and is 10 mm thick, making it extremely compact for everyday use. It can easily fit in the palm of your hand. The product has a high-quality build and according to WD, it can withstand a drop of up to 6.5 feet (1.98 meters). There's a USB Type-C port on one end of the SSD used for connecting to desktops, laptops or even smartphones.

If your PC or Laptop does not support USB Type-C port, then you can use the USB Type-A adapter included inside the box to connect the SSD to your device, which is a great addition by WD.

Overall, I'm impressed with the design and the build of the product, with the only con being lack of LED status indicator.

Features

The WD My Passport SSD comes with WD Discovery software pre-installed, which include WD Backup, WD Security, and WD Drive Utilities applications. The software is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating system and so is the SSD as it is pre-formatted in exFAT file system standard out-of-the-box.

WD Backup is responsible for automatically backing up the files from your PC to the drive. WD Security includes 256-bit AES hardware encryption support, which is said to be the strongest encryption in the market to date with password protection, meaning no one can access the files inside the SSD unless he/she enters the password. The WD Drive Utilities application is used to monitor the health of the drive and optimize it, if necessary.

Also, the SSD was compatible with my Galaxy S8 without the need reformatting it. The drive comes with a 3-year limited warranty too.

Performance

On the box packaging, WD claims that the SSD can transfer files at a rate of up to 515MB/s using the USB Type-C connector provided with the drive. The USB-C cable comes with USB 3.1 Gen 2 support, which means it can support up to 10GB/s transfer speed if connected to a compatible device in a proper format, meaning more than one drive coupled in RAID.

Out of the 256GB, 238GB storage space is available for general use. You can find WD Discovery software .exe and .dmg file pre-loaded when you plug the drive for the first time.

I performed a total of two tests to check the performance of the drive, a benchmark test, and a real-life usage. For the benchmark test, I used the CrystalDiskMark software. As you can see in the screenshot below, the average read and write speed reported by CrystalDiskMark software was around 330 MB/s.

Compared to the real-life test, on Dell XPS 13 with the included USB-C cable, the read speed recorded was at around 270-290 MB/s, and the write speed was maxed out to 200 MB/s. This can vary depending on the files you are reading or writing. Testing the SSD with USB-A adapter, the maximum read speed recorded was 70 MB/s and the write speed ranged between 35 - 40 MB/s, as you can see in the screenshot below.

Also, it took around 40 seconds to write 4.51GB worth of videos and images (165 files in total) from my Galaxy S8 to the SSD using USB-C cable. One major reason for getting an SSD besides speed is no-noise even when you use it extensively. The drive didn't heat up much like the HDDs do.

Verdict

WD's addition in its My Passport series of portable drives, WD My Passport SSD, is the best Solid State Drive you can get in the market currently. With a starting price of Rs. 8,999, the WD My Passport SSD comes in three different storage capacities i.e. 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. At the same price, one can buy a 4 TB variant of the WD My Passport portable HDD but will lack the speed and reliability offered by SSDs.

A much affordable variant of the My Passport SSD with 128GB storage is what WD lacks and it would be great if they come up with the same while launching the 2nd generation of My Passport SSD.

Vivo X21, the first smartphone in India with in-display fingerprint scanner launched for Rs. 35,990

Smartphone tech has evolved a lot in the past couple of years. Not only in terms of design, but there's a huge upgrade in terms of security too. Back in 2016, phones were launched with big bezels on the top and below the display and today, the trend is all about including a notch.

Similarly, no one expected phones with a fingerprint scanner until Apple launched the iPhone 5s in 2013 with Touch ID. Since then smartphone companies started focusing more on the security aspect of the device and now we see phones with a dedicated fingerprint scanner, a Face ID, an Iris Scanner, and even software based face unlock.

So, what's next when it comes to security in a smartphone? Phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner? Sounds cool right?

Vivo is the first vendor in the world who has taken an initiative towards launching a phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner, and the first commercially available Vivo smartphone with this tech is the Vivo X21. The Vivo X21 was announced back in March 2018, as a successor to the Vivo X20, in the Vivo's X series of smartphones.

Starting up with the design and build, the Vivo X21 looks exactly similar to the Vivo V9 but has a high-quality build material with 3D glass back cover. On the front is the AMOLED display with a notch on top, and minimal bezel on the bottom. Flipping over we see the dual-camera setup on the left top corner with Vivo branding in the center. Volume and power button sits to the right side of the X21, with a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top edge, and a micro USB port with speaker grills on the bottom.

Talking about the fingerprint scanner, the star of the show, Vivo has included it beneath the display. As you can see in the images, the fingerprint sensor is located on the lower-center of the display, exactly where our thumb rests. The sensors work only in the limited area, which lights up to give you an indication where to rest your finger/thumb for unlocking.

In terms of performance, the fingerprint scanner is pretty good. Setting up a fingerprint is easy by just tapping the limited area of the sensor on the display lightly at first followed by some slightly deeper press. The unlocking takes around a second, which is good in my opinion for the technology. Vivo has announced that it will constantly improve the speed of unlocking with regular updates.

Vivo has also included a face unlock feature for convenience, which according to them 3D maps the face using IR fill light included inside the front-facing camera sensor. Vivo is calling this feature Face Wake 2.0.

It's good to see Vivo launch the Vivo X21 in the Indian market. Competing head-to-head with the newly launched OnePlus 6, the Vivo X21 has an upper edge because of the real innovation of an in-display fingerprint scanner when compared to the OnePlus 6 which is more or less the same like its predecessor.

But, in India, the brand value does matter, and OnePlus definitely wins over Vivo. Time will tell whether Vivo was able to beat the OnePlus 6 in terms of sale of the Vivo X21. While searching for some home automation devices in the country, I came across an Indian startup called Picostone with low-cost home automation devices. Installation & Setup

One Picostone Basic device will allow only 4 switches to be automated. The device packaging is very basic and it includes the Basic itself with a connector/socket, fuse, and a 1ft long wire which needs to be cut into 4 pcs for the switches. As the device is very compact, it easily fits inside existing switchboard. The space required is very minimal. No extra wiring or construction work is required to install the Basic.

Picostone Basic: How It Works

After getting the Picostone Basic, you can install it either by calling your own electrician or the one from the company. I selected the latter one. Picostone has partnered with the HouseJoy team for the installation of Picostone Basic across the country. They have well-trained and experienced electricians, and the service cost anywhere between Rs. 250 to Rs. 300. HouseJoy follows up with you twice a week to check if everything is working perfectly.

If you know the basics of electrical engineering, then you can manually install the Basic easily using the installation guide provided by the company inside the packaging. Installing Basic is not a rocket-science, rather a few minutes work. It would be better if you decide the four switches to automate prior the electrician comes.

After you are done installing the Basic inside the switchboard, the next job is to set the Picostone Basic using the Picostone app. Picostone has included a step by step guide for configuring the Basic inside the box. It took me less than 2 minutes to configure the Picostone Basic with my phone. In case you face any issue with the setup, you can contact the Picostone customer support, as they are very responsive and well-knowledged about the product.

The primary step of setting the Basic is to first enter personal details of home WiFi network inside the Picostone app. Then connect to Picostone WiFi created by the Basic. After that, traverse back to the Picostone app and under Device Configuration click on Configure. This will configure the Picostone Basic with the home WiFi network and now it can be easily used from anywhere, as it is synced with the server and has a dedicated network connection.

Do note that you need not connect to Picostone wifi after the configuration is done, though it will be always shown in your nearby WiFi networks.

After the Picostone app is configured with the Picostone Basic, the device is now ready to use. Inside the app, you get the list of all rooms/Picostone devices. Selecting one will show 4 set of switches. You can rename the room name and type by going to individual listing settings. Also, if you want multiple users to get control of that particular room then you can also add users to that room listing.

Long press on any switch will help configure that switch where you can rename the switch and select the switch type as Light, Fan or Motion Sensor. Also, you can select if the switch is dimmable or not to enable the dim setting. Last but not the least is that you can add an auto switch on or off schedules on particular days and at a varying time. There's one more feature called Scene which allows to switch on or off multiple appliances with just a single tap.

After using the Picostone Basic for a month I found it very convenient for daily use. The app has become very responsive after the latest update. They have revamped the UI and made is more clean and simple to understand. The device at times face an issue of syncing the speed of the fan if changed manually via a regulator, but it isn't a deal breaker.

Controlling the app using mobile data is not at all a problem, but you need to wait for like 10-20 seconds for the app to get synced with the device at home. All multiple Picostone products can be controlled using one single app. The device comes with voice control feature using Alexa, but I haven't tried it, so I'm not well-aware of the working using voice.

Verdict

With Picostone Basic installed in your house, you can easily control any appliance at your fingertips with ease. The best time to buy the Picostone Basic is during the MadSale where you can get it for over 75% discount, or buy a kit package of your choice.

If you are looking for a cheap and best solution to automate your house, then Picostone has you covered with its offers and support and the product is very well designed for anyone to understand and use. It would be great to see Picostone bring voice support using Google Assistant and Siri for more convenience.

I cannot comment on the long-term performance of the Picostone Basic, but as far as my one-month usage is considered, the Basic definitely gets a 👍👌.

OnePlus 5T with 6-inch 18:9 display, bezel-less design officially launched starting at Rs. 32,999

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5 earlier this year in June with a design similar to the iPhone 7 Plus and flagship like specifications. The OnePlus 5 is an awesome smartphone and is indeed the best Android smartphone anyone can buy today under Rs. 40,000. But, the area where OnePlus lost its points this year was in the design and the display.

2017 had brought a whole to a new experience on smartphones with the introduction of 18:9 display providing bezel-less look the device. We now have an 18:9 display ratio smartphone from many vendors already like LG, Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei and more.

OnePlus launched OnePlus 3T last year with minor spec update. Following the legacy, OnePlus today has officially announced the OnePlus 5T smartphone, which follows the recent trend of 18:9 display, providing a whole new front design compared to its predecessor. Other than the display, design, and secondary rear camera, rest everything inside the OnePlus 5T remains similar to the original 5.

According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 5T will be available in midnight black color variant initially. Like the OnePlus 5, the 5T will also come in two variants, one with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and the other with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The prior has been priced at the US $499 / Rs. 32,999 in India and the latter will cost US $559 / Rs. 37,999. The Indian pricing is exactly similar to the Indian launch price of the OnePlus 5. Poor OnePlus 5 owners :(

OnePlus has also revealed that there will be a flash sale of OnePlus 5T on Amazon India on November 21st with official sales starting November 28th.

Starting up with the design, the OnePlus 5T now comes with an all-screen front. The traditional OnePlus' superfast fingerprint scanner has now been moved to the rear of the device. Rest everything including ports and buttons is in the same place.

Talking of the display, OnePlus has included a 6.01-inch Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) Optic AMOLED display of 18:9 ratio. Moving the fingerprint scanner to the rear, OnePlus has achieved 80.5% screen-to-body ratio on the OnePlus 5T. You can read detailed display spec sheet below.

Another major change inside the OnePlus 5T is the change in secondary rear camera. OnePlus has ditched the telephoto lens of the OnePlus 5 and has brought in a 20MP secondary camera with a f/1.7 aperture to provide the best low-light photography experience. This 20MP secondary camera merges four pixels into one to provide best quality low-light photo and help reduce noise and grains. OnePlus has also improved the portrait mode on the OnePlus 5T, though the device still lacks portrait selfie mode.

Some minor addition to the software includes Face Unlock feature, which according to OnePlus unlocks the OnePlus 5T in just 0.4 seconds. This feature claims to use over 100 facial features to authenticate you before unlocking.

Rest every specification remains the same as the OnePlus 5. And yes, the OnePlus 5T still lacks IP water-resistance rating and wireless charging. Why OnePlus? -_-

Razer Phone officially launched with 120Hz display, 8GB RAM; priced at $699

In the past 5 years, smartphones have gained a lot of recognition, especially among camera vendors, telecom operators, and laptop manufacturers. RED has already confirmed its entry into the smartphone market and today Razer, widely known for making beast gaming computer hardware has officially entered the smartphone market with the launch of its first Android smartphone called just the Razer Phone.

This comes months after Razer acquired smartphone start-up NextBit back in January. The Razer Phone highly resembles the NextBit Robin in terms of design. It will be available in two editions, the standard edition will have a chrome Razer logo on the back and the special edition will house a neon-green traditional Razer logo.

Talking about the pricing and availability, Razer has priced the Razer Phone at US$699, which is approx Rs. 45,075 INR, far less than the recent flagships from various manufacturers. The Razer Phone will go on sale in North America and Europe starting November 17th. Pre-orders are already live. The special edition Razer Phone, mentioned above, will be limited to 1337 units.

Starting up with the design, the Razer Phone follows the NextBit Robin footprint with rectangular chassis and sharp corners. Unlike Robin, which came in various color options, the Razer Phone comes in a just matte black variant. The device is sturdy in hand and has an all-aluminum CNC build. It comes with front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound with its own amp, to provide the best sound experience. Following the trend, Razer has skipped the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Razer Phone and included a THX certified 24-bit DAC via an external adapter.

The key feature of the Razer Phone is the world's first 120Hz "Ultramotion" display on a smartphone taking advantage of Qualcomm's QSync. It has a 5.72-inch Quad HD IPS IGZO LCD 120Hz display delivering the fastest and the smoothest refresh rates and graphics. According to Razer, the adaptive refresh technology of "Ultramotion" synchronizes the GPU and the display to ensure no tearing or lag at high frame rates. Besides having such a powerful display, the battery life won't be affected.

To keep the device running all time, the Razer Phone comes with 4000mAh battery with first use of Qualcomm's QuickCharge 4.0+, which can charge the device up to 85% in just an hour. Initially, the Razer Phone will come with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with Nova Launcher Prime Razer Edition on top to provide best Android experience. Razer promises to deliver Android 8.0 Oreo update in the Q1 2018. The company is also partnering with various Game developers to help them create and enhance their games to utilize the 120Hz display.
