Using the Super Video Converter and the right settings, you can convert almost any video or movie to watch it in full screen in the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

With the success of the Nokia 5800, Nokia has released another phone much like it but with a lower price tag – the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. Unlike the Nokia 5800, the Nokia 5530 doesn’t have 3G, has no GPS, and has a smaller screen (from 3.2 inches to 2.9 inches). Despite this, the Nokia 5530 is still a great phone as it is sleeker, cheaper and packs all the other good features of the Nokia 5800.

And like the Nokia 5800, the Nokia 5530 is great for watching movies and videos as well. Let’s now try to convert videos and movies for the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

Super Video Converter

We’ll be using Super Video Converter to convert videos/movies so I suggest that you first read How to Use Super Video Converter. The download link of the installer of Super Video Converter is also there.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed Super (and know how to use it), use the conversion settings below to convert your video or movie for the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

Output File: mp4
Output Video Codec: mpeg-4
Output Audio Codec: AAC LC

Video General Options: Both unchecked
Video Scale Size: 640×360
Video Aspect: 16:9
Video Frame/Sec: 25
Video Bitrate: 816
Video Other Options: “High Quality” and “48k Audio” are checked

Audio General Options: Both unchecked
Audio Sampling Frequency: 44100
Audio Channels: 2
Audio Bitrate: 112
DVD Language Select: default

I’m pretty sure that the Nokia 5530 can handle more than the 816kbps video bitrate that we specified so feel free to make this higher to increase the quality of the converted video. If conversion is too long for you, you can decrease the video bitrate from 816kbps but you’ll be decreasing the video quality as well.

You can increase the audio bitrate as well to increase the audio quality if you want.

There you have it! Im sure you can now watch videos and movies on the Nokia 5530!

Knowing how to take care of your notebook or laptop battery will prolong its life saving you from buying a replacement or a second battery.

Taking care of your notebook or laptop battery is as important as taking care of the laptop or notebook itself. It’s the very thing that makes it mobile in the first place. Properly taking care of your battery will prolong its life.

That’s why when I read an article by Chris Yano on a forum on notebookreview.com about notebook batteries, I can’t help but share the information here for all of you to know. I know several ways to take care of a laptop battery, but Chris’ article makes it crystal clear. The article may be 2 years old, but the information he provided is still applicable today. (Read on below to quickly know how to take care of your laptop or notebook battery or you can go directly to Chris Yano’s article using the link above)

Note: Since majority (if not all) of laptop or notebook batteries manufactured nowadays are Li-ion batteries, that is what we will be discussing here. If in doubt, check your battery if it’s Li-ion. There’s a very big chance that it is.

Lifespan of a Notebook or Laptop Battery

Let’s first talk about the general lifespan of a battery. Most people believe that laptop batteries last at about 1 – 3 years with normal use (what is normal use anyway?). What most people don’t know is that laptop or notebook batteries deteriorate over time regardless if you use it or not.

Discouraging isn’t it? So by the time your battery was made, it’s already slowly getting worn out even when it’s not being used. Your batteries “age” whether you use it or not.

Besides the natural aging of batteries, notebook batteries have a specific number of charge/recharge cycles. Chris Yano pointed out in his article that there are about 300 – 800 charge/recharge cycles in a battery. After this, it would gradually lose its charge capacity rather than just fail to power up the laptop. You’ll start noticing this when the usual 3 hour charge capacity of your notebook battery decreases. A really noticeable bad or worn out battery would only be able to hold charge for about 15 – 30 mins of power.

So now that we know that batteries deteriorate whether we use it or not, and that it has a specific number of charge cycles only, how do we take care of a laptop or notebook battery so as to prolong it’s life?

Tips and Techniques to Prolong your Notebook / Laptop Battery’s Life

Chris Yano has several tips to prolong your notebook battery’s life:

1. Avoid frequent full discharging of laptop batteries

Unlike older types of batteries, Li-Ion batteries do not need regular complete discharges before recharging. In fact regularly discharging batteries would damage Li-Ion batteries and result in loss of capacity. Partial recharging is actually better as less charge capacity per cycle is lost. It is recommended that we charge at a 10% to 20% level.

2. Calibrate Your Laptop/Notebook Battery

Sometimes you’ll notice your battery isn’t charging up to 100%. It may charge only up to 80% to 99% of its gauge and then stop charging. This is an indication that you need to calibrate your battery to maintain its gauge accuracy.

To calibrate your battery just consume the battery power until the computer cuts off the power or automatically shuts down or sleeps. After that you can then fully recharge it up to 100%.

It’s recommended that you calibrate your battery after every 30 partial charges.

3. Consider removing the battery from the Laptop/Notebook

When you’re on A/C power most of the time, you should consider removing your battery from the laptop or notebook. By removing the battery and just running it purely in A/C power, you get two benefits.

First, you preserve the charge cycles of your battery. If the battery isn’t inserted in your laptop, you are sure that it isn’t charging (or trickle charging) and consuming charging cycles from your laptop battery.

Second, the battery’s temperature is lower as it receives less heat (heat from the laptop, and heat from the charging). Lower temperatures slow down the abovementioned aging (or deterioration) of the battery making it good for the battery.

It’s recommended that the notebook battery is charged to 40% if you do plan to remove it from the laptop and store it for a long time.

This is my most used technique in trying to prolong my laptop battery’s life as I always connect my laptop in A/C power. I always carry my laptop’s power adaptor and the places I go always have a power socket. You should assess if removing the battery is really feasible for you.

You can also store the laptop battery in the refrigerator (not in the freezer!) if you do remove it from your notebook. This would really protect the laptop battery from heat. Always put it in a sealed plastic bag when you put it in the refrigerator to keep the moisture out. Remember to let it warm to room temperature before using or recharging it.

There you have it! I hope you learned how to take care of your battery so as to prolong its life. Thanks to Chris Yano who made the article at the forum of notebookreview.com! I suggest you also read his article. I’ve provided a link above.

Here is how to activate your Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 if you’ve recently purchased one through a shop or online.

Kaspersky Internet Security is one of the highest rated security software in the market today. It boasts the same antivirus packaged in Kaspersky Antivirus and packs in other Internet security features as well – such as protection from Hacker attacks, Spam, Phishing, and Identity theft.

So if you’ve purchased Kaspersky Internet Security, how do you go about on activating it?

(If you’ve downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security and plan to immediately activate it, skip to number 3. Also, if you’ve purchased it through a store, skip to number 3 as well. If however, you’re activating Kaspersky from a trial version start from number 1.)

1. Click on “License” located at the bottom of Kaspersky

2. Choose Activate New License

3. Input the Activation Key or License Key

If you’ve purchased Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 online, the activation or license key would be the set of letters and numbers given to you. If you’ve purchased Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 through your local store, it’s also the set of letters and numbers but located inside the box.

Once you’ve located your activation or license key, just type it in. You may type it with or without the dashes.

4. Fill in additional information

Kaspersky will ask you for your email, location and city. Be sure to put a valid and working email address you can access as they would send your registration details to your email so you can access Kaspersky’s technical support.

Kaspersky would then proceed to activate your license so be sure you have an active internet connection.

Once activation is finished Kaspersky would show the type of license and the license’s expiration date.

5. Retrieve your Key File

The Key file is what you will use to reactivate your Kaspersky Internet Security in case you had to reformat your PC.

Just go to https://activation.kaspersky.com and input the activation or license key which you typed in earlier. You should then enter the ID and password you received through email from Kaspersky.

You should then choose if you want the key file to be sent to your email address or downloaded to your computer.

There you have it! Not only did we activate your Kaspersky Internet Security, we also ensured that you can reactivate it again if you happen to format your computer.

With the Samsung Omnia supporting DivX and other popular video formats, converting videos or movies are very easy.

The Samsung Omnia is a great touch screen phone powered by Windows Mobile 6. It’s a phone which more than lives up to the standards of smartphones today. Being a person who likes movies, I immediately noticed the great multimedia capabilities of the Samsung Omnia. It may be a smartphone and not a multimedia phone but the multiple video formats it can play especially DivX, make it great for playing videos and movies.

However, it does take a little step back in terms of the display. Compared to the Nokia 5800 which can display up to 16M colors, it can only display up to 256K colors. It’s understandable though as the market of both phones is different – the Nokia 5800 is a multimedia phone and the Samsung Omnia is a smartphone.

Display color aside, the Samsung Omnia is still great at playing movies and videos. It comes preloaded with a trailer of the movie Kung Fu Panda.

As the Samsung Omnia supports multiple formats like DivX, AVI, ASF, etc. converting videos for the Samsung Omnia would not be as difficult.

There are two ways to convert your movies or videos for the Samsung Omnia. Both are effective in converting videos and would just be a matter of what your preference will be.

DivX Converter

DivX offers a free converter of videos to a DivX format suitable for your mobile phone. It’s a very easy to use program and is also light in resources. It is available for download in two versions – DivX converter for mobile in Windows and Div converter for mobile in Mac.

When you run DivX converter for mobile, you’ll see a small user interface.

To convert your videos/movies for the Samsung Omnia using the DivX converter for mobile:

1. Drag and Drop the Video to the DivX Converter

To select the video you want to convert you just need to drag and drop your video file to the DivX converter. Once you’ve done this, DivX converter should state that there is a file in queue.

2. Indicate the Conversion Setting

Be sure to indicate 400×240 as the setting for conversion and NOT mobile or qmobile. Click the arrow buttons to change the settings.

3. Convert the Video File

Click Convert and it would now convert your video or movie to DivX format which is suitable for your Samsung Omnia. Once complete a new window would pop up informing you that conversion has been successful. Click on View Files to see where the converted file has been saved.

Just transfer the converted video to your Samsung Omnia and you would now be able to play the video on your phone.

Super Video Converter

If for some reason the DivX converter for mobile doesn’t work, you could try using Super Video Converter. Super is a little more complicated to use than the DivX converter.

I suggest you read first How to Use Super Video Converter. The download link of Super is also there.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed Super (and know how to use it), use the conversion settings below so you can convert your videos and movies for the Samsung Omnia.

Output File: AVI
Output Video Codec: DivX
Output Audio Codec: mp3

Video General Options: Both unchecked
Video Scale Size: 400×240
Video Aspect: None selected
Video Frame/Sec: 25
Video Bitrate: 576
Video Other Options: “High Quality” and “48k Audio” are checked

Audio General Options: Both unchecked
Audio Sampling Frequency: 44100
Audio Channels: 2
Audio Bitrate: 128
DVD Language Select: default

When you’ve clicked “Encode (Active Files)” a pop-up would appear asking you another question. Just choose DX50 and then click OK and Super would now convert your video file.

That’s it! Those are the two ways to be able to convert videos and movies for the Samsung Omnia.

Super Video Converter is one of the best free converters available today. It supports multiple video formats (even unpopular ones) and is very flexible.

We’ve been using Super Video Converter for quite some time now as it supports multiple video formats and its conversion options are very flexible. You can convert from almost any kind video format, and then convert it to another format with a different aspect ratio, video bitrate, aspect size, etc.

We now have quite a few tutorials on how to convert videos on various gadgets (i.e. mobile phones) in TechieChips. As we use Super Video Converter in almost all of them, I decided that it’s time to make a general tutorial on how to use Super Video Converter so that I don’t repeat them on every video conversion article I make.

In the middle of this article you’ll also see a list of all the video conversion guides I’ve made. You can always check this page if I’ve made one for your gadget (I’d be happier if you subscribe to the feed or email updates!). If not, you can always use the contact form (not the comments area please!) and ask me to make one for you!

Download and Install Super Video Converter

You could download the latest Super Video Converter in their official website eRightSoft. However it’s very hard to find the download link at their official website as it’s buried several pages deep. I’ve provided the download link for the latest Super Video Converter below. I’ve also included previous versions of the converter as some people are having a hard time converting with the new one.

Latest Version:
Super Video Converter (build 36 – June 10, 2009)

Previous Versions:
Super Video Converter (build 35 – Jan 5, 2009)

Super Video Converter (build 33 – Sep 2, 2008)

Super Video Converter comes with an automatic upgrade. I however suggest that you fully uninstall any previous versions of Super first and then install the latest version.

Using Super Video Converter

The guide below is for the latest Super Video Converter. Previous versions may be a little different but the basics remain the same.

1. Launch Super Video Converter

Once it’s successfully installed, just double-click the shortcut icon at your desktop and then this is what you should see.

If you don’t see a similar screen when you launch Super, make sure the first option at the upper-left corner of the screen is selected – as seen in the screenshot below.

2. Select the Video You Want to Convert

Drag the video file you would want to convert, on the area where it says “DROP A VALID MULTIMEDIA FILE HERE”.

Once you’ve successfully dragged the file you want to convert to Super, it should be listed and have a checkmark beside it like the one below:

3. Indicate the Conversion Settings

This is where you enter the conversion settings for your gadget (mobile phone, video player, etc.). Below is a list of all the video conversion guides I’ve made which uses Super Video Converter.

Convert Movies and Videos for the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic
Convert Movies and Videos for your Nokia E63
Convert Movies and Videos for your Nokia 5800
Convert Movies / Videos for your Sony Ericsson P1i
Convert Movies and Video Files for your Nokia E71 / E61 / E61i

5. Encode /Convert your Video or Movie

Click Encode (Active Files) which is located at the bottom, and just wait for your file to be encoded. The longer the video or the movie is, the longer the encoding process.

Note: If you have the latest Super Video Converter, it would save the converted video in the same folder where the source video is. However, if you’re using Super Video Converter build 35 and lower, you need to set the folder where the converted videos are. You can do this by pressing Ctrl+T or by right-clicking any part of Super and choosing Output File Management. The default location where it saves converted videos is “C:\Program Files\eRightSoft\Super\OutPut”

Also while converting, Super displays a green bar to show the progress of conversion.

Sometimes it goes full and then resets back to empty (especially on large files). You might think that there’s something wrong with the conversion but there really isn’t. Just let it convert until it’s finished.

Easy isn’t it? If you have any questions on how to use Super Video Converter don’t hesitate to ask – you can do so in the comments section below.

Have you ever encountered the error or pop-up Adobe Flash Player 9: Where is the debugger or host application running? Here’s how to fix it.

A friend recently complained to me that whenever she was browsing the net, she would get an error or pop-up saying: Adobe Flash Player 9: Where is the debugger or host application running? There would then be two choices: Localhost and Other Machine (directly below it is Enter IP address).

It gets pretty annoying as it always pops up several times in websites with flash graphics. And you can’t proceed any further without clicking “Ok” or “Cancel”

When I scoured the web for answers, I found that it was maybe because of a corrupt or unsuccessful installation of the Adobe Flash Player, or even wrong coding of the flash file in the website. Whatever it is, Tom the Designer of tomsskylinedesign.com wrote in his site that you just need to install the Adobe Flash Player 9 Debugger update which can be downloaded from the official Adobe macromedia website to solve the problem. Thanks Tom!

Update for Adobe Flash Player 9 for Internet Explorer browsers.

Update for Adobe Flash Player 9 for Firefox / Netscape compatible browsers.

Just download and install the appropriate update for your browser using the links above and that annoying Adobe Flash Player 9: Where is the debugger or host application running? pop-up should be gone.

The Lenovo Ideapad Y330 is a 13-inch laptop which features a Core 2 Duo processor, a slot load DVD writer, HDMI, and Dolby sound.

The Ideapad Y series notebooks are branded by Lenovo as for “Family Entertainment”. The Y series notebooks focus on multimedia features to be able to deliver superb home entertainment. Let’s take a look at how the Lenovo Ideapad Y330 fares.

I’ve seen two kinds of Lenovo Y330 laptops available at stores. Both have the same specs but with differences on the processor, video card, and hard disk capacity. The more common Lenovo Y330 (since I see it more often), has a Core 2 Duo T5900 processor (2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB), 320GB hard disk, and has no dedicated video – equipped only with the onboard Intel GMA x4500.

The less common Lenovo Y330 is equipped with a slightly slower processor – a Core 2 Duo T5800 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB), a smaller hard disk capacity with 250GB, but has a dedicated video card – an ATI Radeon HD3450 with 256MB memory.

The Lenovo website has listed the Lenovo Y330 as having a Core 2 Duo P7350 processor (2.0GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB) and still no dedicated video. But I’ve yet to see it being sold in actual computer shops.

A quick look at the specs of the Lenovo Y330:

Processor: Core 2 Duo T5900 / Core 2 Duo T5800 / Core 2 Duo P7350
Chipset: Intel P965 Express
Memory: 2GB DDR2 667MHz (upgradeable to 4GB DDR2 800MHz)
Display: 13.3 WXGA VibrantView
Graphics: ATI Radeon 3450 with 256MB / Intel GMA x4500
Hard Drive: 250GB (320GB for variants with no dedicated video)
Optical Device: Dual Layer DVD writer
Audio: 2×1.5W Stereo Speakers, Dolby® Home Theater™ Surround Sound
Networking: Wi-Fi b/g/n (some have Wireless b/g only) and 10/100 integrated LAN
Others: 1.3 MP WebCam, VGA port, HDMI, 56k modem, 6-in-1 card reader, 2x USB 2.0, Microphone, Audio jacks, Firewire, Bluetooth 2.0, PCI Express Card slot, 6-Cell Battery
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

Let’s now take a closer look at the Y330 beyond its specifications.

Performance of the Lenovo Y330

For the Y330 with dedicated video card (ATI Radeon 3450 with 256MB RAM), performance is not an issue. Because of the dedicated graphics processor and video RAM that the ATI Radeon 3450 provides, you would be able to play average games smoothly with good details and resolution. The latest graphics intensive games are still playable, but had to be put it in very low details and resolution. This is expected as the ATI Radeon 3450 is just a low end graphics card for notebooks.

With Windows Vista Home Premium and all the drivers installed, boot-up was pretty quick. The usual applications opened fast – Firefox, Internet Explorer, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, Skype, etc. Kaspersky Internet Security and the free Avira Antivirus don’t seem to slow down the system at all. The performance of the Y330 was pretty good if not impressive.

If you want to upgrade the memory it can easily be upgraded as it has 2 slots for RAM. The initial 2.0GB 667MHz can be upgraded to an 800MHz and the 2.0GB can be upgraded to 4.0GB.

For the Y330 with no video card, it is packed with a better Core 2 Duo processor with the T5900 (2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, and 800MHz FSB) or P7350 (2.0GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, and 1066 MHz FSB). However, since it has no dedicated video card, average games are run most of the time in low details and resolution. Applications still opened fast, and performance was also good.

Ergonomics of the Lenovo Y330

The Lenovo Y330 has a 13.3-inch widescreen display which isn’t big but not small as well. In its 1280×800 resolution, everything is displayed properly in the screen. The display is not too bright and can be adjusted if the user wishes to.

The keyboard keys or buttons are average in size and easy to press. The keyboard as a whole is also average in size and has the same layout as other Ideapad Series. The keys feel solid and typing for long hours won’t be a problem. There is also a small amount of transparent protective coating on the keys’ letters or imprints to prevent fading.

It would have been better though if the location of the Fn key and left Ctrl key were interchanged. It’s more natural for the hand to have the left Ctrl key located at the leftmost bottom.

The trackpad is nicely situated just below the keyboard and is very responsive. It includes a scroll feature at the right and the standard left and right buttons located at the bottom. The power, battery and WiFi indicators are located just below the trackpad buttons.

All the slots like USB, DVD drive, Firewire, LAN, card reader, etc. are conveniently located at the side and at the front (nothing but the battery at the back).

The weight of the Y330 is listed at 2.15kg but it feels heavier than that (like 2.5 kg). It’s understandable as its jammed pack with features.

Features of the Lenovo Y330

As mentioned earlier, the front panel of the laptop houses the indicator lights of the power, battery, and Wi-Fi. Beside the indicators are the memory card reader, Audio jacks (headphone and microphone), and Wi-Fi switch.

The right side panel is where the 2 USB ports, PCI express card slot, DVD drive, AC power adaptor jack, and security hole are located. The PCI express card slot is located just below the USB ports.

The DVD drive is already a DVD writer (dual layer) so it can burn CDs and DVDs (incuding dual layer DVDs). If you notice, the DVD drive is already slot load so only the CD or DVD comes out when the eject button is pressed. You also insert the CD or DVD the same way – you just insert it and the drive would get the CD/DVD by itself.

The left side panel houses the modem, firewire port, VGA port, LAN port, and HDMI connector. There is a rubber cover on the modem and Firewire ports.

At the top of the keboard is where the power button, one key rescue system button, and multimedia touch panel is located. When the one key rescue button is pressed, it would open the recovery system software for easy full system backup or recovery. The multimedia touch panel is great feature where you can easily access multimedia controls like audio and media player controls.

At the top of the multimedia touch panel you’ll find the Y330 speakers and a sticker that boasts Dolby Home Theater sounds. However, the speakers’ volume, even at maximum, is a little weak and easily drowned by outside noise. Audio quality though is still good and solid.

The 1.3 megapixel camera is located at the top of the screen. Beside it are two small holes where the built-in microphone is located. The microphones are already equipped with noise reduction.

The Y330 also has Bluetooth if in case you need to connect Bluetooth enabled devices like printers and mobile phones.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Y330 has a 6-cell battery located at the back which would last about 2 hours of use in balanced power mode – this is with WiFi and one USB port being used. You can choose from 4 power modes – balanced, power saver, super energy saver, and high performance.

Design

The Lenovo Y330 is in glossy black which makes it a fingerprint magnet. There are faint swirl designs on the laptop which ensures that the laptop doesn’t look dull or cheap black. For those who like black laptops, I’m pretty sure the Y330’s design won’t disappoint.

It comes with an all black power adaptor and power cord which compliments the design of the laptop.

Verdict

The Lenovo Y330 performs great regardless of the version you get – the one with a video card (ATI Radeon 3450), or the one without (onboard Intel GMA x4500). The only difference is the Y330 with a dedicated graphics card is able to run games more efficiently.

The Y330 also has a ton of features like slot load DVD drive, HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Firewire, Dolby Home Theater speakers, camera, multimedia touch panel, One Touch recovery button, etc. It’s easy to type, display is superb, and the trackpad works great. Battery life is a little on the low side as it can only hold up to 2 – 2.5 hours of use depending on use and power mode.

With the price of the Lenovo Y330 (about $800 or less – depending on country) and with the kind of specs and features it has, it’s hard to say no to the laptop. If you’re looking for a 13-inch laptop, you should definitely consider the Lenovo Y330.

Ever want to change the input of the keys / buttons of your keyboard in Windows (keyboard layout)? Or maybe just interchange the input of two keys like the Alt and Ctrl key? Here’s how.

It’s a challenge to find a laptop with the right mix. It has to have the specs you’re looking for, features you want, design that’s acceptable, and must fit your budget. However, sometimes we tend to neglect some of the minor things we should also be looking out for when buying a laptop – which is the keyboard button layout.

Have you ever felt that one of the keys in your keyboard just doesn’t feel to be in the right place? You felt that the Ctrl key shouldn’t be there and should be in the place of the Alt key? Or one of the keys needs to be disabled?

For desktop computers with separate keyboards, when you don’t like the layout or when you find some keys are in an uncomfortable place in the keyboard, it’s easy to change and buy another keyboard.

For laptops or notebooks however, you can’t do that. You’re stuck with how the keys are situated or laid out. So how do we fix that?

Fortunately for Windows users (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/ Win 7), you just need to install KeyTweak created by Travis Krumsick. KeyTweak is technically a keyboard remapper which is absolutely free to download and use. You can interchange keys, change the assignment of several keys or change the layout of the whole keyboard if you want.

Using Keytweak is very easy. You can use the manual method where you click any of the keys in the virtual keyboard and reassign it using the dropdown provided.

Or you can use the Full Teach Mode or Half Teach Mode which can be activated through the buttons located at the bottom.

When in Full Teach Mode, just click Begin Teach Mode and then press (1) the key you want to modify and then (2) press the new key it would be assigned to.

When in Half Teach Mode, click Begin Teach Mode and then press the key you want to modify and then manually select the key it would be assigned to.

It’s really very easy to use and once you’re done reassigning keys, you don’t need to run it again as your keyboard will now have the new ones.

Limitations

Keytweak is great but it still has some limitations which I believe it really can’t be blamed for. One major limitation is the FN Key found in laptops can’t be reassigned. If you want the FN key to be reassigned, the BIOS of your laptop needs to be modified (usually through an update).

Keytweak doesn’t also support multiple keys in one keystroke. If you want that, use the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator. I found it harder to use though and it can only modify the alphanumeric keys/buttons. You can’t modify the other keys like Tab, Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Enter, and Backspace buttons.

Keytweak also can’t modify the keyboard for a single application only. The change it makes is global and affects all applications in your operating system.

There you go, I hope I’ve helped you change or modify the Input Keys or Buttons of your Keyboard in Windows.

Learn how to effectively choose a good cooler for your laptop or notebook.

A laptop/notebook cooler or cooling pad is a device which is supposed to help cool your laptop when you are using it. This would prevent damage done by excessive heat and thus prolong your laptop’s lifespan.

Most coolers have fans which are powered through the USB of the laptop. Some do not have fans and just elevate the laptop to allow air to circulate. There are also coolers which act as mats which absorb the heat away from the laptop.

If you just pick any cooling pad thinking they’re all the same, then it might not cool your laptop at all. You might even think that laptop coolers are just a waste of money and should not be bought at all.

It’s also wrong to assume that there’s an ultimate laptop cooler that can cool any laptop or notebook available in the market. Why? Because there are different types of laptop ventilation and you should at least know what type your laptop has before buying a cooler.

Check the Ventilation of your Laptop or Notebook

The position of the vents and their ventilation method is the most important information you will need in choosing a good laptop cooler. It’s because your laptop’s ventilation is its primary cooling system and the cooler you choose should be complimenting or helping it.

1. The most common ventilation method is that there are one or two air intakes in the bottom of the laptop (air is being sucked in), and there are one or two air exhaust vents at the back side of the laptop – as shown in the illustration below.

Since we already know where the air intakes and exhaust are, the laptop cooler we should buy should complement the already existing ventilation of the laptop.

An effective laptop cooler would push air up to the intake vents of the laptop. If a mat like the ThermaPack or a laptop stand is to be used, it should at least allow air to the intake vents.

Taking a closer look at the vents…

Other laptops or notebooks have more vents (usually those with a graphics card).

Make sure the cooler you choose to buy takes advantage of the multiple air intakes of the laptop. The laptop cooler should push air to most if not all air intakes.

2. A less common ventilation method is the exact opposite of what I’ve recently shown. The air intakes are at the side or at the back, and the exhaust is at the bottom.

If this is the case, there should be enough space between the laptop and the surface from where it’s placed. A laptop cooler which pushes air up to the bottom of the laptop shouldn’t be used as this would conflict with the ventilation of the laptop (It might push the hot air back to the laptop). You could however, place a small USB powered fan at the air intakes located at the bottom or side of the laptop.

3. Another ventilation method is where there are no air intakes but there is an exhaust located at the back or the side. These are mostly seen in Mac notebooks.

Laptop coolers which suck or pull air at the bottom of the laptop and release it at the side or back of the cooler are appropriate for laptops with this kind of ventilation. Mats with some kind of special gel which act as heat absorbers and distributors (like ThermaPak) can be used as well. They work extremely well for these kinds of notebooks.

Check your Laptop’s Heat Spots

Heat spots are the areas at the bottom of your laptop (except the vents) which run hot when the laptop is turned on. Be sure to check for heat spots so that the laptop cooler you buy are able to reach them as well.

Heat spots are non-existent on some laptops.

We already mentioned above that if your laptop has a ventilation method where the air intakes are at the bottom, and the air exhaust are at the side or back, a laptop cooler which push air up to the bottom of the laptop should be chosen. We also mentioned that air should be specifically pushed up to the air intake vents.

However, if heat spots at the bottom of the laptop are present, air should not just be pushed up to the air intakes but to the heat spots as well.

If your laptop however has no air intake vent and just an exhaust at the back or side (like Mac notebooks), the fans which suck air at the bottom should be at the position of the heat spots for greater effectiveness. That’s why cooling mats with special heat absorbing gels like the ThermaPak are most effective in laptops like these – it just absorbs the heat at the bottom of the laptop and doesn’t need to worry about air flow.

Design and Build

Lastly, the design and build of the laptop cooler should also be considered. Laptop coolers with fans are either made of plastic or metal. If you prefer a cheap solution then plastic laptop coolers can be for you. Plastic laptop coolers also have the advantage of being lighter and easier to carry around.

Although metal laptop coolers are heavier and pricier, they conduct heat better and are thus able to disperse it better. There are also plastic coolers with metal or aluminum fans. This is good as well as metal fans release cooler air than fans made of plastic.

Mats with special gels like the ThermaPak are the easiest to carry. Mats also do not require that you put it in a flat surface unlike laptop coolers with fans.

That’s it! Laptop coolers aren’t really complicated but it requires that you at least know the ventilation of your laptop, the heat spots (if any) of your laptop, and the design and build that you prefer. I hope I’ve helped you how to choose a good laptop or notebook cooler.

Super Video Converter

We’ll be using Super Video Converter to convert videos and movies so I suggest that you first read How to Use Super Video Converter. The download link for the installer of Super Video Converter is also there.

Converting Videos or Movies for the Nokia E75

Once you’ve downloaded and installed Super (and know how to use it), use the conversion settings below to convert your video or movie for the Nokia E75.

There are two sets of conversion settings for the Nokia E75, one for widescreen videos, and the other is for non-widescreen. Non-widescreen videos have an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 or an aspect size of 320×240. Widescreen videos have aspect ratios ranging from 1.77:1 to 2.77:1.

You just need to watch the original video you are going to convert to see if its widescreen or not. Once you know what kind of video it is, just apply the settings below. (Note: I’ve noticed that most movies are in widescreen format.)
