Joomla REST API extension com_api version 2.2 released

Joomla-REST-API-extension-com_api-version-2.2-released-1

In the past few weeks we have made incremental upgrades to com_api, our REST API extension for Joomla. For those who are not aware, com_api is a quick and easy way to add REST APIs to Joomla. Extensible via plugins, you can easily add support for more Joomla extensions.  This blog details the changes & improvements done from from 2.0 to 2.2.

The key change is support for SEF URLs, which will enable you to create better URLs for your API endpoints, like /api/articles/article/34. Till now, the API endpoints could only be accessed by Joomla non-sef URLs, making the URLs look clunky.

Few other changes include support for the Authorization header, and being able to override the response envelope for the resources. Also a few bug fixes around viewing logs and a performance improvement for sites that had a lot of API consumers.

Documentation

We have revamped our documentation to make it easy for developers to write their own API plugins. You can find it here : http://techjoomla.github.io/com_api/

Impact

Version 2.0 and onward introduces a backward compatibility break in the default output structure of the response. AppCarvers customers please check the blog on appcarvers.com before you upgrade.

To know about the full changelog, read on.

Shika 1.1.9 is out with hierarchy based assignments

shika1.1._20170711-045558_1
We are happy to announce the release of Shika 1.1.9 which is a feature and maintenance release. We have consciously made a decision to do releases in the 1.1x series that move away from the ideal principle of semantic versioning in order to fill feature gaps in the 1.1x series before embarking on the next true major release which will be 1.2. So expect to see more feature releases in the 1.1x branch that make the extension more solid and enterprise ready.

This release introduces a new feature that has been a horizontal extension for Techjoomla but wasn't released as yet - com_hierarchy. This lets you set context specific hierarchy relations between users. The utilisation for this is mainly to set training managers for users. These 'Managers' shall be able to assign & enrol courses to users under them from the frontend with the new Assignment workflow that is also released in this version. This is also a dependency to our migration to TJ reports which will allow for features like Teacher reports and Manager reports in v1.1.10.

Besides this major feature, we have also introduced a configuration for Certificate orientation & introduced a spent time column in the attempts view on the frontend.

TJ Notifications is here!

TJ-Notifications-is-here-1

Over the years we have received numerous requests to create a 'real manager’ or a way to edit system email notifications. We decided to go one step further. Enter TJ Notifications, our next 'horizontal’ or 'infrastructure’ extension. You can read the original idea in this blog post by Parth-‘Global Notifications system for joomla’.

This extension will eventually allow all our products and any other products who integrate it to centrally manage all notifications in your Joomla site. While we will start with emails, eventually we shall be adding support for SMS/Text notifications, Web Push (browser notifications) as well as native site notifications.

TJ Vendor - The infrastructure extension for unified vendor management & payouts

TJ-VENDORS-IS-HERE

You might have wondered at our blogs being a little silent. Well a lot has been happening behind the scenes. In the past several months our teams have been working on a host of ‘Infrastructure’ extensions that will add immense value and decrease development time for our extensions as well as custom projects.

Infrastructure extensions are like Joomla’s core com_categories. Other extensions can use it without having to recreate the wheel. The below diagram should give you just a little bit of an idea as to what all is coming !

In this blog we shall be talking about one such extension - TJ Vendor. Techjoomla today already has several extensions like Quick2Cart, JGive, JTicketing that support a multi vendor mode. Soon Shika will have the same functionality. The core of the multi vendor system that supports Vendor Management, Fees management, Payouts to name a few have been abstracted into a reusable extension.

JGive 2.0 is here with brand new UI, activity stream and much more!

JGive 2.0 is here with brand new UI, activity stream and much more!

When we posted about our new design first approach for jGive nEXT back in December, 2016, we received a host of emails and comments with some excellent feedback. We thank you for all the love you have shown and bring to you the first release in the nEXT series - JGive 2.0 !

The biggest features that we introduce in this release are the revamped UX, a rich activity stream and an awesome new dashboard along with php 7.1 compatibility. One key thing to remember is that this is a ‘Major’ release which breaks backward compatibility. This means that you will need to rework any html overrides you have done when you plan your upgrade. Also note that as announced we will be dropping Bootstrap 2 support in this release. This also means that if you are using our partner template - JSN Fidem, you need to wait for Joomlashine to release a new version with Bootstrap 3 before you can upgrade.

Everyone is advised to read the release note carefully before upgrading to the latest version. Read on to know more regarding the features and a detailed changelog.

Enrich your standup meeting with WIFLE & 02(Occasion Opinion)

Enrich your standup meeting with WIFLE & 02(Occasion Opinion)

I'm sure, many of you have already attended many standups before reading this blog. If you are not familiar with standups, below are some useful links.

https://www.blossom.co/blog/3-tips-for-quick-effective-stand-up-meetings

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand-up_meeting

http://martinfowler.com/articles/itsNotJustStandingUp.html

https://sprint.ly/blog/scrum-meeting-best-practices/

In short, a standup helps you to keep track of your team's progress on a daily basis. Stand-up is a 'self reporting' meeting. In Agile, the team members don’t necessarily report to a team lead. Its main objective is to self organize a team. According to me, standup is a great opportunity to meet all your team members at the same time & get an idea about the lists of tasks an individual is doing during today's schedule & whether any assistance is needed to accomplish those tasks! The meeting should not last for more than 15 minutes for 5-6 teammates!

Alright so we're convinced with standup meetings. We conduct standups daily. Everyday we come, we meet, we discuss & we work.(How boring! I felt really boring while even adding this sentence) We need to add some spices & have some TADKA(tempering) in order to make our standup meetings really interesting. Here, I want to help you make your standup meetings really happening using some out of the box ways!
