Both these updates come with improved security and stability designed specifically to improve reliability and overcome the shortcoming of its previous versions.

Furthermore, Mozilla has already started working on Firefox 4.0 RC and if all goes well, we can expect it to be released by the end of March. Well, fingers crossed for that.

To enable this new feature, go to your account management page and turn on the 2-step verification mode. It will take a few days before this feature is available to all users but once it is rolled out, each and everyone of us should go for it in my opinion.

After you have successfully enrolled for the 2-step verification and have setup a backup phone in case you manage to lose your phone, the rest of the process s simple. You just have to enter your password every time you login and then Google will give you a call, send an SMS or let you generate the security code yourself using an iPhone, Android or Blackberry app. All depends on how you customize the settings.

This is certainly a great move because once implemented, it will give its users advanced levels of security and will make sure that the person signing is the actual owner of that particular account.

Microsoft announced some days ago that the beta version of IE9 had surpassed 20 million downloads, highest ever number of downloads for any version of Internet explorer from Microsoft yet. This might well be the coolest thing that’s happened in Egypt since the Pyramids were made. The picture shows there love for internet, which was sadly closed down by the Egyptian government recently.

• Login to facebook.
• Go to ‘account settings’.
• In the Account security section, you can setup alerts, either email or a text message or both.

So whenever someone logs in to your account from a location that is not the list of devices associated with your account, you’ll get an instant notification. This allows you to take the necessary action before more damage is done.

It now allows the users to have full Https sessions which obviously is a great step towards secure browsing. Previously, Https was only being used for logging in but now the entire session can be held in Https making the user dara more secure and less vulnerable to snooping software’s such as Firesheep.

There is also this new security feature that was being tested by facebook last year and is not live that seems to be a nice replacement for CAPTCHAS. It’s being called “Social authentication” and it comes into action when facebook detects suspicious activity on your account. The new feature makes you tag your friends’s photos correctly so unless you are the actual account holder, you won’t be able to tag the photos correctly. Clever move, facebook.

Https support is optional for now and you can turn it on by heading over to the “account settings” page on facebook. Social authentication feature is now live.

Its not very difficult to spend hours and hours on the internet while doing well…almost nothing. Happens all the time doesn’t it? You just cease to track the amount of time spent online while your important tasks are being neglected. Here is a list of addons/extensions for three most popular internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Opera) to keep a  check on the amount of time you spend browsing the interweb.

Time Tracker for Google Chrome

For Chrome users, there is an extension called “Time Tracker” that will measure the amount of time you spend on a particualr page. It will stop counting if there is no user activity i-e no mouse movements or keyboard entries. You can also pause the timer at any time and also reset all stats whenever necessary. The stats windows shows total time in minutes and also a percentage display of time spent on each page.
