Adam.. This excellent piece of writing you posted here a few days ago is a great illustrator of a fundamental truth surrounding AI emergence! Your “AI Eats the World.." title says it all.
IMO the "eats the world" phrase & how wide ranging your writing is, shows that AI is a "poster child" for why any coming AI regulations "out of the gates" needs to be BOTH "bottom up" & "top down" (..top-down usually being how folks in governance from any given nation-state usually start)
Such a "parallel approach" (ie: to build regulation w/a narrow--or perhaps industry level--scope via use-cases & other industry specific regulations) must at the same time also be driven by a "top-down" set of "ex-ante" regulatory work as well. Glad to discuss the "why" & "how" of such an approach w/you or others if you are interested. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT GIVEN THE WHOLLY UNREGULATED WORLD OF SOFTWARE IN GENERAL! Respectfully.. DL

I was wondering if you'd be interested in discussing algorithmic auditing in an ESG (environmental, social, governance) context at a data analytics industry event I'm organizing for early November.

I'm a senior research director at TDWI, a long-established education and research community in data management and business analytics. TDWI is looking for data leaders to speak on building the modern business on responsible data and analytics.

This is the topic of an interactive in-person summit at TDWI Orlando on November 7-8 for business and technical leaders. We are looking for experts to speak on their experience selecting, implementing, and overseeing data management and analytics platforms, tools, and applications for addressing sustainability, social equity and diversity, regulatory compliance, and other responsible outcomes.

The TDWI Executive Summit for Data Management in Orlando will focus on technologies and methods that are currently enabling these and other responsible uses of data and analytics in the enterprise. We are most interested in hearing how you are implementing any of the following:

• Business-friendly practices such as protecting data assets and intellectual property responding fully to regulatory and legal mandates regarding data privacy and data protection

Also, a lot more than the last 2% of households have private water from wells, and septic tanks instead of sewer. The EPA says more than 20% of homes have an individual or small community septic tank instead of sewer, and I'm pretty sure that the percentage for private or community wells is higher (as I know more people with sewer but not utility water than vice versa.) So the percentage of people with access to high speed fixed broadband is already higher than those who have city or utility water and sewer.
