An error in an update for Microsoft Security Essentials meant that millions of users of Internet Explorer were warned against going into Google.com. Several million users of Microsoft Internet Explorer browser since Tuesday were greeted by red warning lights when they clicked on Google.com.

That’s because an update to Microsoft’s security software Security Essentials and Forefront, which has mistakenly been given the two programs to perceive Google.com as a site with malware, writes security expert Brian Krebs’s blog.

The update was sent out to users on Tuesday as part of Microsoft’s usual patch tuesday .

Brian Krebs updated even a Windows XP machine to see if there were teams in the first reports of the problem.
