U.S. FAA certifies new Boeing 737-7 airplane

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has granted Boeing [NYSE: BA] an amended type certificate for the new 737-7 airplane, clearing it for commercial service.

"This important certification validates the rigor of our airplane's design and recognizes the determination and resilience of our 737 MAX development team," said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

"Our team of dedicated engineers and test experts worked through challenges, an extended pandemic, and the transition to new certification processes," Pope added. "Through it all, our team stayed focused on completing all requirements and delivering a safe and more capable airplane to our customers."

The smallest and longest-range member of the 737 MAX family, the 737-7 model serves an important market segment by offering 135 to 160 seats (in a two-class configuration) while providing about 10% more range potential than its siblings. Like other 737 MAX jets, the 737-7 reduces fuel use and CO2 emissions by 20% and noise footprint by 50% compared to the airplanes it typically replaces.

The regulatory approval caps a multi-year certification effort in which Boeing demonstrated through comprehensive testing and analysis that the airplane meets all commercial aviation regulations. The test program, which began in 2018, included:

More than 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing
Extensive system safety analysis and human factors reviews
An updated engine anti-ice system to address a potential condition that was discovered during flight testing

Our Boeing team held regular and detailed discussions with the FAA to ensure Boeing understood the requirements and provided transparency of our progress," said Mike Sinnett, senior vice president of Product Strategy, Product Development and Development Programs. Boeing and Southwest Airlines, the 737-7 launch customer, are preparing for delivery of the first airplane. A team is readying the first airplanes, including implementing updates to the airplane's final configuration.

Norton Study Reveals Emerging Risks for Kids Online, Prompting Parents to Have a New Kind of "The Talk"

Parents are entering a new era of digital parenting, and it necessitates a new version of "the talk." According to the Norton Insights Report: Connected Kids, a new study from Norton, a Gen brand, 85% of parents of children under 18 say they feel comfortable talking to their children about online risks, yet 32% are not confident their child can distinguish AI-generated content from real content. And while the majority (58%) have already taken steps to reduce AI-related risks by restricting apps, monitoring online activity, or talking to their children specifically about AI, two-thirds still worry AI could be used to create fake images or conversations involving their child.

"Parents have spent years teaching children how to recognize strangers online, but AI changes the nature of what 'danger' online looks like," said Leyla Bilge, Global Head of Scam Research at Norton. "From the misuse and alteration of posted or shared photos to AI bots acting as cyberbullies or impersonating trusted sources, there are entirely new risks at play, and that means parents need to update how they talk about online safety."

AI's Impact on Kids Online Experience
Parents know AI is already impacting the way their kids interact with the world and creating new concerns. Among parents of children under 18:

32% are not confident their child can distinguish AI-generated content from real content
Among parents whose child has experienced cyberbullying, 16% say the perpetrator was an AI-generated account or bot, and 29% say the perpetrator was someone using a fake profile or impersonating another person
67% worry AI could be used to create fake images or conversations involving their child

And when it comes to images, the risk is growing. Criminals increasingly use AI-generated photos or fake identities to gain a young person's trust – or manipulate them into sharing real images – which are then used for financial sextortion. Last year, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received more than 100 reports every day of financial sextortion targeting children and teens. Victims are overwhelmingly teenage boys, and many cases begin on social media, gaming platforms, or messaging apps.

The concern also extends beyond images. While most AI-generated content is harmless, over 3% of all AI-generated videos are scams, according to research from Gen. The scale of synthetic media means even a small percentage of malicious content can translate into a significant number of attempts to deceive people through fake news clips, celebrity endorsements, testimonials and other convincing videos.

The Hidden Risks of Gaming
Parents identify TikTok (21%) as their top platform concern, with Facebook second at 13%. Online gaming ranks fourth at 10%, behind YouTube. But the behaviors children report inside gaming environments tell a different story about where risk is accumulating. Among the 64% of parents whose child under 18 plays chat-enabled online games:

64% say their child has chatted with a stranger via voice or text chat
36% say their child has received inappropriate or offensive messages
38% say their child has been encouraged to leave the game and continue a conversation on a different platform

"The chat layer on top of gaming is often where the real exposure happens, and it tends to be less visible to parents than social media use," Bilge said. "When a child moves from a game platform to a private messaging app because someone asked them to, that escalation can be hard to detect, and kids may not recognize it as something worth mentioning."

High Confidence, Real Exposure
The study surfaces a consistent tension between parental confidence and the behaviors children are actually engaging in. Eighty-five percent of parents say they feel comfortable talking to their kids about online risks, but at the same time:

40% report their kids go on their device past their bedtime or certain designated hour
23% report their children watching explicit content
22% report their children have accessed a social media platform or website they thought they had blocked them from visiting
20% report their child sharing private information or personal details with a stranger

The gap between reported parental comfort and these behaviors does not mean conversations aren't happening, but it does suggest that having the talk is only part of the picture.

The research points to a broader shift in parenting. Conversations that once focused on strangers, passwords and screen time are expanding to include AI-generated images, digital impersonation, online relationships and critical thinking in a world where seeing is no longer believing. The clearance remains available for review in Garmin Pilot, giving pilots a text-based reference that can help improve clarity throughout the flight. Before takeoff, the clearance is accessible from the Flights page and through a banner that persists across the app; after departure, pilots can continue to reference the clearance from the Flights page for 48 hours.

A future enhancement will allow Garmin Pilot users to cancel IFR directly in the app after landing at airports that support Mobile Clearance Delivery. This capability is especially useful at uncontrolled airports or Class D towered airports when the tower is closed, helping pilots avoid additional radio or phone calls while allowing other IFR operations to move more efficiently.

Garmin developed Mobile Clearance Delivery in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration and MITRE and the feature is still in its operational test and evaluation phase. Available in a limited capacity now, the feature will be rolled out nationwide in phases through 2028. Consortium launches Project SEAN to advance electric aviation across Scotland's Highlands and Islands

Project SEAN, a consortium-led initiative bringing together aviation, infrastructure and regional transportation partners, will conduct electric aircraft demonstration flights across Scotland's Highlands and Islands beginning in 2027, following confirmation of £1.5 million in Department for Transport funding.

The Scottish Electric Aviation Network (SEAN) will explore how electric aircraft can strengthen regional connectivity, support sustainable air services and serve remote communities.

Led by Bristow Helicopters Ltd., the consortium of aircraft manufacturer BETA Technologies Inc., Electric Aviation Maven, Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS), and Skyports Infrastructure will demonstrate the practical role electric aircraft could play within Scotland's existing regional aviation network, through demonstration flights on passenger, cargo and medical service routes to gather operational insights.

A planned three-month flight program will use BETA Technologies' all-electric ALIA CTOL (CX300) aircraft. Flights will operate from a hub at Inverness Airport and connect with selected regional airports, including Wick John O'Groats Airport, allowing the consortium to gather operational data while assessing aircraft performance, charging infrastructure and airport readiness for future electric flight operations.

Building on lessons learned from pioneering zero-emission aviation initiatives in Europe and the United Kingdom, Project SEAN aims to provide evidence-based recommendations to support future commercial deployment of electric aircraft while strengthening regional connectivity and contributing to broader decarbonization goals.

Latest Gen Toyota Audio Multimedia

Sony Electronics introduces the FX5, a new full-frame camera in its Cinema Line series. A newly developed fully stacked CMOS image sensor raises sensitivity performance with 15+ stops of dynamic range, three base ISO settings[2], and a Dual Gain shooting mode. For the first time in the Cinema Line FX series, the FX5 supports Open Gate shooting and in-camera recording in X-OCN, Sony's proprietary RAW format. It shoots 5K at up to 60 fps, 4K at up to 120 fps, and FHD at up to 240 fps. The result pairs the Cinema Line look[4] with production-ready operability in a compact, portable body. Also released are two optional accessories: a detachable OLED viewfinder and an XLR handle unit that records in-camera at up to 96 kHz, 32-bit float.

Strava, Samsung Partner For Pre-Installs on New Galaxy Watches; Routes Integration into Samsung Health

Strava, the app for active people with more than 200 million users in more than 185 countries today announced a strategic partnership with Samsung at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked: Strava will be pre-installed on upcoming Galaxy Watches sold globally, starting with the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2.

Every Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 purchase will include a 60-day free Strava Subscription, giving new athletes full access to Strava's premium features from the moment they set up their new Galaxy Watch.

In addition, Strava will be natively integrated into Samsung Health, with Strava Routes coming later this year, giving subscribers on-wrist access to one of Strava's most-loved navigation features within the Samsung ecosystem.

"The Samsung Galaxy Watches are increasingly popular with the Strava community. We want Strava to be there the moment someone decides to get moving, so that athletes can capture all aspects of their active lives," said Michael Martin, chief executive officer of Strava.
