Do you remember Autopatcher? Autopatcher was a tool that could download all the Windows updates and then we could save those updates and easily install them later when we reinstalled the Windows. Then mysteriously Autopatcher went off on request of Microsoft. It looks like they have come up again.

The good news is that now Autopatcher also supports Windows 7. Autopatcher is also good for people who have slow internet connections and have multiple systems. Then they only have to download the updates once and then install them offline through Autopatcher.

save the file as mod.reg file . Double click the file and again merge the file to registry by clicking on yes.

Even if they get closed through the Task Manager by killing the respective processes, it’s a lengthy and time consuming task to close all the applications one at a time. Another scenario I usually encounter in my Windows 7 machine is that whenever I shutdown my system, there are a lot of applications open and I can’t close them one by one because it is a very time consuming process.

To overcome this problem, “Close All Applications” comes to the rescue. Close All Applications is a handy little utility that keeps running in background and gets activated by a hotkey. Upon activation, it does one thing, closes all the open applications without you being involved further.

If you don’t want Close All Applications to run all the time in the system tray, another way to use this utility is to drop it in X:\Windows\System32 folder (X is your Windows system drive letter) and then access it by going to Start –> Run –> CloseAll.

Even the user with administrative privileges have to go to administrative mode to run certain applications which includes critical system apps in order to provide more security to Windows users.

The problem with this approach is that if we want to run one program again and again, it will always ask for that administrative privilege. If you want to always allow a program to use administrative privileges when run, then follow the steps below to grant administrative access to that program.

  1. Right click the program you wish to grant administrative privileges
  2. Go to Properties –> Compatibility Tab
  3. At the end of the compatibility tab, you will find the following check box:
    Run this program as an administrator
  4. Just check the check box and click OK and then again OK.
  5. This will grant administrative privileges to that program permanently.

If you want to grant the program administrative privileges for all the users, then you can do so by going again to compatibility tab and clicking Change settings for all users.

Check the check box which says Run this program as an administrator.

Now the program will run in administrative mode for all the users of the system.

Now this is the latest Twitter hack which hacks one account by sending a message like the following:

“this you??”

“LOL is this you”

“hey, i’ve been having better sex and longer with this here”

or any other sex related messages.

These messages are followed by a link that takes us to a malware site that may try to install malware in your system or some of the sites do identity thefts.

So how do I keep away from those phishing scams?

It’s simple. Don’t ever click on the link if you get to the above mentioned messages. Even if you have clicked the link, never ever enter your username or password or any other detail on the displayed page.

Make sure you only give your account access to the most trusted Twitter apps.

OMG!! I have been compromised. What should I do?

If you feel like you have been compromised, you should immediately change or reset your Twitter account password plus you should also change the details that you have given on the scam page. If you use the same password for all the accounts on the internet, you will have to change all the passwords as most probably your password will be used in more malicious attacks on your internet accounts.

Another thing you have to do is reset the Twitter connections. To do it, go to your Twitter account –> Settings –> Connections. Make sure only your most trusted applications remain on this page. Revoke all others.

  3. Select Optional Updates
  4. Search for the update labeled “Update for Windows 7 (KB971033)”
  5. Right click it and select Hide Update

This will disable this update from automatically installing into your system.

Uninstall Windows 7 Activation Update KB971033

If you have already installed this update. Don’t worry! Let me tell you how to uninstall this update the safer way.

  1. Go to Control Panel –> Programs –> View installed Updates
  2. Search for “Update for Windows 7 (KB971033)”
  3. Right click it and select Uninstall.
  4. This will uninstall this activation update and you’ll be able to use your Windows 7 without any overloads from Microsoft :-)
