<p>The <strong>Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)</strong> has clarified that it is no longer pursuing or implementing the earlier draft order that suggested businesses would need permits for online ads, promos, or social media posts.</p>

<p>Early this week, an initial draft had proposed a pre‑clearance system where companies would apply for an advertising permit <strong>30 days before posting</strong> and pay <strong>₱975 per ad material</strong>. This fee would have been on top of the 12% VAT already charged by platforms like Facebook.</p>

<p>Each ad was also expected to carry a <strong>DTI permit number</strong>, covering posts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Shopee, and other platforms.</p>

<p>The plan quickly drew criticism. Senator Bam Aquino opposed the move, warning it would burden MSMEs and online sellers who rely on digital platforms to reach customers.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="770" height="515" src="https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-770x515.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-117323" srcset="https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-770x515.webp 770w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-450x301.webp 450w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-768x514.webp 768w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-175x117.webp 175w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-1170x783.webp 1170w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement-277x185.webp 277w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/dti-statement.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Source: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/DTI.Philippines/posts/pfbid02ZJ4yZxp9tmEMMMji4YBGuXaPDtGin1A5UzqH9KtKS65eyHXKBqQrHEpu3ZDSKb9rl" type="link" id="https://www.facebook.com/DTI.Philippines/posts/pfbid02ZJ4yZxp9tmEMMMji4YBGuXaPDtGin1A5UzqH9KtKS65eyHXKBqQrHEpu3ZDSKb9rl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">DTI Facebook</a></figcaption></figure>

<p>In its latest statement, DTI assured the public and the business community that the internal draft does not reflect current policy direction and will not be finalized or enforced. The agency said it remains committed to supporting economic growth while balancing consumer protection with innovation and a competitive business environment.</p>

<p>With this clarification, businesses can continue running ads and promos without worrying about new permit requirements.</p>

<p><strong>Xiaomi</strong> has added a new model to its 17 series with the <strong>Xiaomi 17 Max</strong>. Unlike the 17 Pro Max, this one skips the secondary rear screen and instead focuses on a big display, a huge battery, and Leica cameras.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="770" height="515" src="https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-770x515.webp" alt="xiaomi 17 max" class="wp-image-117319" srcset="https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-770x515.webp 770w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-450x301.webp 450w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-768x514.webp 768w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-175x117.webp 175w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-1170x783.webp 1170w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3-277x185.webp 277w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-3.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></figure>

<p>The phone comes with a <strong>6.9‑inch AMOLED panel</strong> with 2608&#215;1200 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. Under the hood is a <strong>Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5</strong> chip, paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.1 storage.</p>

<p>For imaging, it has a <strong>200MP main camera</strong> using Samsung’s HP9 sensor with f/1.65 aperture and OIS. It’s joined by a 50MP 3x telephoto with macro support and a 50MP ultrawide. Up front is a 32MP selfie shooter, while security is handled by an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.</p>

<p>Battery is where the 17 Max stands out. It packs an <strong>8,000mAh silicon‑carbon cell</strong> that Xiaomi says can last more than two days and retain 80% capacity after 1,600 cycles, or about four years. Charging options include 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 22.5W reverse wired charging.</p>

<p>The phone runs <strong>HyperOS 3 on Android 16</strong> and is rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water resistance. It comes in black, white, and blue.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="770" height="515" src="https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-770x515.webp" alt="xiaomi 17 max" class="wp-image-117318" srcset="https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-770x515.webp 770w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-450x301.webp 450w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-768x514.webp 768w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-175x117.webp 175w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-1170x783.webp 1170w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1-277x185.webp 277w, https://www.technobaboy.com/wp-content/uploads/xiaomi-17-max-1.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></figure>

<p>In China, the Xiaomi 17 Max is priced at <strong>CNY 4,799 (~₱43,500) for 12GB+256GB</strong> and <strong>CNY 5,799 (~₱52,600) for 16GB+512GB</strong>. Global rollout details are still to be announced.</p>

<p>Apple’s <strong>MacBook Neo</strong> shook up the laptop market, putting pressure on both Windows makers and Intel. In response, Intel is rolling out <strong>Project Firefly</strong>, an effort to deliver more affordable laptops powered by its new <strong>Core Series 3 “Wildcat Lake” CPUs</strong>. The approach borrows from the smartphone industry, using standardized parts and modular designs to lower costs and speed up production.</p>

<p>The first Firefly laptop will be the <strong>Lenovo Lecoo Air 14</strong>, with over 70 designs expected in the first wave. Intel’s reference design shows a slim 11mm profile with a clean look, highlighting the project’s focus on efficiency and portability.</p>

<p>Intel says performance is competitive. The mid-range <strong>Core 5 320 CPU</strong> reportedly scores 21 percent higher in PassMark than Apple’s A18 Pro chip, though benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt.</p>

<p>By leaning on China’s smartphone supply chain, Intel hopes to unify OEM designs to make laptops that balance price, performance, and availability.</p>

<p>Project Firefly is clearly aimed at budget-conscious buyers who want modern laptops without leaving the x86 ecosystem. The big question is whether this approach will be enough to challenge <a href="https://www.technobaboy.com/2026/04/28/macbook-neo-now-in-ph-via-beyond-the-box-p44-day-with-home-credit/" type="link" id="https://www.technobaboy.com/2026/04/28/macbook-neo-now-in-ph-via-beyond-the-box-p44-day-with-home-credit/">Apple’s MacBook Neo</a> and the growing wave of ARM-based laptops.</p>
